This might be the last time you see me alive’: Zelensky reportedly concedes in call with EU leaders that he’s in personal peril

That chilling warning, according to a report by Axios, came from Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, during a Thursday night video call with leaders of European Union countries to discuss Russia’s ongoing military invasion of its western neighbor.

At least 100 Ukrainians have reportedly died, with Russian troops on Friday targeting urban centers including steady movement toward Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, with gunfire and explosions heard across much of Ukraine.

Zelensky said in a video statement that he is “staying in the government quarter [of Kyiv] together with others,” but would not specify his location

The Financial Times reported on Friday that Zelensky informed EU leaders he was not sure if he would be able to speak with them again.

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s assault had been anticipated for weeks by the U.S. and its Western allies, with Zelensky cautioning over sowing panic, even as the U.S. and U.K. shared declassified intelligence indicating that the Kremlin sought to leverage disinformation such as a staged video purporting to show a mass-casualty event to create a pretext for a full-scale invasion.

U.S. intelligence reportedly indicated that the Kremlin had created a list of prominent figures in Ukraine whom it would seek to kill or capture...

This is not kiriji wars. Few days ago, the West got Russia to once again pronounce the agreed mantra that "Nuclear wars should NEVER be fought". You think they did that for the sake of doing so? They did so because they knew Russia will start a fight over Ukraine and they didn't want it to spiral out of control. Russia is not attacking The US and The US is not attacking Russia. The two have all it takes to maim each other.. and they know this..

Even if Russia attacks a NATO former Soviet republic like Estonia today, the US won't choose a frontal military option. They might totally cut off the whole of Russia from any international economic relations and other sundry diplomatic and political sanctions that will be far more severe than the ones imposed at the moment... But a full military war over Estonia? Impossible

This will only help Kiev to die slowly instead of surrendering quickly to save lives and properties..

At no point did I state or insinuate that the removal of the Pro-Russian President was the reason for Ukraine wanting to join NATO.

The Russian problem in Ukraine of sponsoring and arming separatists in Ukraine in the wake of the Crimean War made joining NATO more attractive to Ukraine even more than mere aspirations dating back to 2008. When your neighbour is more powerful than you and becoming aggressive, it is common sense to look for succour and protection elsewhere.

If there was no pro NATO drive from Ukraine and a general move to towards the European union at the detriment of the interests of her encircled neighbor, Russia would not have annexed Crimea. Agree?

So while some people are making the convinient argument that it was Russias actions in Crimea that angered the Ukrainians to propose joining NATO, it's important to note that the two countries were already at loggerheads on a whole host of issues before the Crimea invasion.

You think that NATO countries are not supplying weapons to Ukraine? You think that most of those NATO supplies are not intended to be used against Russia at a stage? NATO is a defence pact, not an aggressive one & if Russia doesn't want Ukraine joining NATO, it can do so by other means including political & economic sanctions rather than a full scale war.

Also, since the balkanisation of the SU, Russia has always threatened Ukraine, hence, Ukraine's intention to join NATO. The US & its NATO allies have never pushed Ukraine to join NATO. Putin is just power mad.

Further more, the silence of China is telling... it is watching closely. If Russia succeeds in getting Ukraine without much resistance from the West, China is going to take Taiwan & Tibet too...

The domino effect is that North Korea will invade South Korea, Pakistan will invade the disputed Kahmir region with India. Some Arab nations will attack Israel. Other smaller conflicts designed to grab more land will ensue...

That said, powers (empires) rise & fall. China seems to be the one to replace the declining dominance of the US & Russia is aware of this. But the question I always ask those who insult US is this, would you prefer to stay in an autocratic China or a democratic US?

Democratic West? Is there anything democratic about the current world order? The Russian military is now less than 20 miles from Kiev the Ukrainian capital as we speak. That is less than 24 hours of fighting! If Ukraine knows they're this miserably hopeless, why didn't they do enough to stave off the invasion? There was no way The United States or NATO would have intervened to fight against a nuclear armed Russia. So what's the point putting your country through this mess? The West continues using these countries as cannon fodders in their senseless proxxy wars with Russia and China.

The problem here is that you are giving NATO and the West a free pass. In your mind, they're infallible. You really think the West never saw this crises coming? This crises have been brewing for over a decade. The West knows what they're doing. Russia knows what they are doing too. Russia understands Western manipulations and scheming and are basically trying to upstage them.

You have to understand how NATO works. Once you're a member of NATO, if you're attacked, all members of NATO have a duty to join hands to defend you. It means that the attackers will be facing the military arsenal of the whole of western Europe and others that are members of NATO. NATO is the biggest fighting block as at today and represents the biggest military danger to countries like Russia and China...

So what happens if Ukraine joins NATO and a president of Ukraine starts a sort of war with Russia? NATO will have to do something to defend Ukraine. That means that all of a sudden, Russia will have to fight The USA, France, Britain, Germany, Italy, Spain , Portugal etc. These are some of the most sophisticated militaries in the world. You're going to face them over a minor squabble with your neighbor? Right at your borders! Especially a neighbor that has ethnic Russians as her citizens too?

This is very simple. I don't know why it looks so confusing to some. Russia is trying to get Ukraine within her sphere of influence. That's what you do when you're a super power. The Americans do it, the USSR did it, China is trying to do it. If you leave your flanks open, your competitors will enter an dismantle you. If you doubt this, try to make Mexico a strategic ally of Russia or China, .. The Americans will react even more ferociously than Russia is doing today to that. During the Venezuelan crises, The US did whatever it could to make sure that Russia never had a military post in Venezuela. Yet Venezuela has no border crossings with The United States. How much more a country with land borders with the US..
