Am afraid its rapidly not becoming a matter of age anymore but more of financial capability. . . . . even more difficult for guys who do not come from a wealthy / influential background and its saddening because these days, more and more women are getting married to the first available man who has the money and shows slightest interest in them, disregarding if there is any form of attachment or attraction to the person. Seen it happen one too many times already and am beginning to feel like life is slipping away from me. . . . .and it just might well be! I can understand the disgust of many w.r.t to the BB phone. I wasn't a very big fan of the BB when it first hit the markets, I used to see it more as a fashion symbol or accessory. . . . . . well, maybe because I used to see it more with the wrong set of people who I felt just didn't have anything meaningful to do with the phone. I have one now though; won't say I am hooked to it that much. . . . but truth is, the BB essentially provides a really cost-effective way to communicate in the BBM app and I really didn't see this until I started using the phone.
And for those who keep harping on the merits of other phones over the BB. . . . .lets be sincere with ourselves; it doesn't matter the phone you use. . . .in this part of the world, ALL phones are grossly under-utilized, because one way or another, its either we don't have the technology or the know-how! |

coogar: nah, you should go borrow brain from the bank with a collateral. . . .cos you need a copious amount of it! if the shots at goal are potent enough, they should be in the net. coming from you(de gea's biggest critic), how has de gea managed to save all these headers, tap ins, back-heels, chesters and hands of god? so united have been lucky in 7 consecutive league games? why are united always lucky season after season? you are starting to sound like a gaynner! At least gaynners now know they have issues. . . . even if it took only 6 trophyless seasons to work out, surely we don't have to wait till it gets that bad before we start troubleshooting. You want to say we are not lucky thus far. . . . . you want to say its only down to our forward play that we've not lost thus far. . . . . .pray, tell me how we've survived not conceding togoal bound balls that were not saved by De Gea going in our net. . . .and I assure you, over the last 4 games, there were many. we were lucky, simple and short! As usual you will say you didn't see any abi ~ and you no need brain join put the wan wey dey before. . . . . guy, things go hard for you oh! coogar: there would always be close calls and close shaves, it's not as if man utd do not get their own chances on the other end as well. united create the most chances every season, i can provide statistics that back us on that. it's just that we are more clinical than others. Not with this frequency. . . .not this glaringly! And what is the guarantee we will always get our chances at the other end and score. . . . thats if we get 'em at all!? 1-way thinking! coogar: let us be playing catch-up with barcelona, i don't care about them. barcelona don't play in the premier league. they can beat each team in their division 100-0. why should i be bothered about what barcelona do in spain? i am concerned about man city, arsenal, chelsea and liverpool. what barca do means shyte in the title race! Of course, no need to bother about 'em or any other top side in Europe now. . . . hopefully, there will be ample time to! coogar: all those feeble shots and crosses de gea palm with his hands all register as saves. i have told you - this number is because of the de gea factor! if we play van der sar in goal with the same defence/midfield set up, the shots would reduce cos opponents know van der sar cannot be caught off-guard! de gea's reputation in spain is the reason his goal gets peppered by meaningless shots everywhere on the pitch! Trust you to be the only one who sees FEEBLE! De Gea factor ko', polynomial ni. . . . . the ones they walked right into our box to miss nkor'!? coogar: if it ain't broke, don't fix it! ever heard of that before? Ah yes, the wait till we are knee-deep in water before we start building the Ark! Man mi. . . . . .Sometimes, before a BREAK there are CRACKS. I am glad for 1 thing ~ you are not SAF becuz it looks like you're waiting for us to be beaten 8-2 in O.T bfore you realize sey wahala dey! coogar: you either choose one of the two. you cannot have it both ways - something the gaffer understands so much!
it's either you prefer the slow, mechanical and boring football we served most times last season or you choose the way we play this season. there's no balancing act! last season had carrick as an extra defender(who mainly sits in front of the back four permanently). the reason carrick had 0 goals and 0 assists in 28 league apps last season - which was uncarrick like. If there's anybody in here who believes this is true, pls indicate with a very loud "aye" ~ because I swear I've seen teams, week in week out, hand out severe thrashing to their opposition without as much as a sniff of threat on their goal. . . . .ah, I forget, as usual coogar only sees what his myopia wants him to see. . . .must be your amnesia getting to me - never knew it was cyber-airborne! Did you ever hear SAF complain about Carrick not scoring. . . . .? coogar: this season, fergie has dumped the method of putting an extra man in the space between the defence/midfield. he wants that extra man to be involved in the attack, giving us 6 players in the opposition half every time we attack, instead of 4 or 5 players we had there last season. it means, we are now more vulnerable in defence but we are more likely to score each time we attack. as long as we outscore our opponents, 3 points guaranteed! the game against arsenal ended 8-2! we took all the 3 points. with the method that pleases you, it would have ended a boring 1-0 just like last season.
i think i prefer this season's result! I am not entirely sure he has dumped it - in fact, I believe unlike you, he is beginning to see MORE CLEARLY now why he'd always kept faith in Carrick / Scholesy combo all the while and keeping one man to screen the defence. My bet is, he will soon try to resurrect it, albeit with slightly different personnel. . . . . . and I sorry for the "love of your life" Anderson if that midfield doesn't sit up defence-wise and start getting tighter on the opposition, it is he who will be sacrificed, whether he scores a hattrick every other game or not!!! |

South Africa embarrassingly celebrated what they assumed was qualification at the end of their match in Nelspruit, having been unclear about the rules.
South Africa's fans danced in the streets as the state-run broadcaster also thought their team had qualified.
Their football association president, Kirsten Nematandani, went on television to erroneously congratulate his players on reaching the 2012 tournament in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Premier League Champions 2010/11 by RuuDie(m): 6:08am On Oct 09, 2011 |
coogar: so how exactly would barcelona or the other teams you perceived are better than us would stop the opposition from firing shots at them? the statistics you provided only show attempted shots, they are not chances. any team can fire shots at their opponents 40, 30, 20 yards from goal. it doesn't say nada. it's de gea factor. with van der sar in goal, these things wouldn't have happened cos no manager would tell his players to fire shots from 40 yards at the dutch wizard!
we are man utd, we can do whatever fuckin thing we want! coogar: and the plot thickens. . . . . norwich: 17 shots attempted, 2 saved, 0 goals scored. . . . .that tells me most of these shots are fired into row z stoke: 13 shots, 3 saved out of 5, 1 goal conceded. . . . .this is an anomaly because of the way stoke play - ball is always in the air.
chelsea: 22 shots, 8 on target, 3 saves, 1 goal conceded. . . . . 14 of chelsea's shots were off target, and we were lucky? bolton: 22 shots, 6 on target, 0 goal conceded. . . . . .i must ask you, what is keeping these shots away from our net? voodoo?
then arsenal, spurs, and west brom firing ridiculous shots at de gea to catch him by surprise - what can the midfielders do about that? can you not see a pattern here that these shots are even what is keeping united on top of the table? these teams would have actually copped better chances trying to work the ball into the net. . . . , but because of de gea, they fire these shots outside the box hoping to catch him off-guard!
this is why the conversion rate of our opponents against us must be the poorest they must have recorded this season. i dare you to print the shots on target of these teams in their other fixtures and check out their conversion rates? it would produce different results! there's nothing any midfield can do to trigger happy teams firing shots from different angles. most of these shots are not clear-cut chances!
the stats sweeten me! chelsea are not exactly a useless team and yet, they could only manage 1 goal in 22 shots taken. arsenal managed 2 goals from 20 shots. bolton couldn't score from 14 shots attempted. is either de gea is the best goalkeeper on the planet or these shots carry no threats whatsoever. the truth must lie between those 2 facts!
then you went about talking about the gilt edge chances stoke, arsenal, chelsea, etc missed. . . . .what about the chances united missed in those games? we created better chances to score against those teams and we were more clinical than them. man utd vs arsenal could have ended 15-5 on the night. man utd vs chelsea could have ended 9-4! the fact still remains we have shown we can outscore our biggest rivals - that is what would win us titles! Pally. . . . borrow brain! Shots at Goal - could be anything from headers, scissors kicks, tap ins, back heels, chesters even hand of god sef - doesn't have to be a scorcher from the opponents box-18. it doesn't surprise me that you are the only one in the whole of NL sports section who didn't see all the close shaves and close calls we've had to endure in matches we've played right in our own box. I hope it doesn't mean you are long-sighted and only see stuffs that happen outside the 18. . . . you must miss a lot of goalmouth action then Barcelona are undisputably Europe's best now because they hardly let the opposition touch the ball, talkless of allow them nearing Valdes' goal. They probably cop more clean sheets than any other team in the entire Europe. Ask me again how they do it, shebi na me dey coach dem! That my friend is why they win so many games and that is why after 3 tries, we are still playing catch-up! Look thru those figures again at the 'Saves'. . . . .we have UTD's keeper making more saves than the opposition's and that is s'posed to be cheery news!? when some teams we are trying to match can comfortably play without a GK and still not concede. Why else is our GK all over the place making saves if there isn't a fair measure of pressure on our goal. coogar: let it spiral before you complain na. . . . . . you are doing the equivalent of a passenger boarding a plane and saying if the pilot does not exert some measure of control of his plane, he's likely to crash the plane. Just typical naija mentality. . . . lets see the floods before we start building Noah's ark! Emperoh: I am still wondering where these arguments will lead us to. As for me, this season is too early to make conclusions. . . . i am enjoying the attacking flair of the new side which is what i miss since CR7 left.
The days of Yorke, Cole, Ole and Sheringham as well the the trinity of Rooney Ronaldo and Saha and later Tevez are all gone. If that is what Fergie is trying to bring back, then so be it. That is why i am a United fan.
Team should score goals for me and leak less. We should see how to strike a good balance and get the best of both worlds. The middle for me is not yet there. We've still got a long way to go. For now, i will enjoy what's on offer. For all i care, a team in transition that's given me this sort of performance is worthy of a good thank you. But like i said, it's still early!!
Thank you. You have just voiced it all there, because we haven't lost yet we can assume that all is well (Super Eagles mentality). . . . .I love the forward play, but I'd love more to see a bit more coordination/control at the back too. if we don't do something about it, games will come where we won't be so lucky to escape - it is inevitable, we will not always outscore the opposition! |

If a prophecy is given about a certain people, these people must agree with the man of God in prayer before God can do anything about it or else, it ll remain as it is. In my vision, i see two teams struggling and struggling for just one goal. Then in the second half. One of the teams scores. That goal will decide the match. Hmmm, well. . . All i can say is that the game does not favour Nigeria. God showed me even the guinea player that ll score the goal that ll decide the match but me revealing his name will mean endangering him on that day. But with God, all things are possible o. Technically, T.B is right in a sense, but its all a matter of interpretation. . . . .yeah, he never mentioned other goals but at 2-1 in the second half, naija was desperately looking for 1 goal to effectively seal and confirm top-spot, whilst the other hand guineans were doing the same to put a stranglehold on the top-spot. So in the end, during the dying stages of the game, it was really just a battle for 1 goal at the very least. . . . . and we all know who got that goal at the end! There was no way both teams woulda known that 2-1 woulda favored them both given the dynamic nature of the qualifiers, you take your faith in your own hands and don't depend on results elsewhere to go your way! |

The long and short of my argument is based on this. . . . . .the fewer chances the opposition get against us the lower their probability of winning (the higher ours). Fine, very good attacking display but like we saw against Basel, as long as we don't exert some measure of control on the game, its likely to spiral out of our hands. Surely, we cannot have it our way all the time. . . . . teams don't go on 15-20 games winning streaks playing score me, i score you footie - see Dortmund of last season. It is not healthy practice. . . . .and we do not have to wait till we lose to know that things are not right! |

coogar: with the way we are playing, we cannot be beaten. that's the interesting thing about 4-4-2. you would be superb going forward but also vulnerable at the back. as long as we outscore our opponents, the number of goals conceded does not matter. i also think we have done considerably well despite your analysis that we are weak defensively. Bollocks. . . . .!!! WBA v MU 16[3] Shots (on Goal) 11[1] 0 Saves 2 MU v Spurs 28[14] Shots (on Goal) 2[(9] 9 Saves 11 MU v Arsenal 25[14] Shots (on Goal) 20[8] 6 Saves 6 Bolton v MU 22[6] Shots (on Goal) 14[8] 3 Saves 6 MU v Chelsea 14[6] Shots (on Goal) 22[8] 7 Saves 3 Stoke v MU 13[5] Shots (on Goal) 14[4] 3 Saves 4 MU v Norwich 20[4] Shots (on Goal) 17[3] 3 Saves 2 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- These stats worry me. . . . along with the fact that the opposition practically stroll into our box at will to miss chances because of a 'nonexistent' midfield - how many gilt edge chances did Stoke, Arsenal Chelsea, Basel and Norwich miss!!!? Like I said, it is turning into kalo'kalo (bet some yorubas will explain to you better if you don't know what it means) and soon enough, it won't be near-misses, saves or chances gone begging, it'd be goals against. . . .so what happens if at the other end, our excellent blistering attack does not provide the goods!? |

Guinea have opened the psychological warfare with Nigeria by claiming that all the pressure is on the hosts during Saturday's Africa Cup of Nations tie.
Group B leaders Guinea need just a draw in Abuja to qualify for the 2012 event, a result that could eliminate Nigeria.
"Pressure is on the Nigerian side because they've not failed to qualify for a Nations Cup in over 25 years," a Guinean football official told the BBC.
"They have no choice - they have to win," added Ibrahima Barry.
GROUP B STANDINGS •Guinea 13 pts •Nigeria 10 •Ethiopia 4 •Madagascar 1
Guinea, who have inflicted Nigeria's only defeat of the qualifying campaign when winning 1-0 at home last November, have 13 points in the group.
Nigeria have 10 points but a 1-0 win or any two-goal margin of victory will be good enough to see them depose the Syli Nationale at the top of the table.
The last time the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the Nations Cup was for the 1986 edition, since their absence from the 1996 finals was taken for political reasons.
Under coach Michel Dussuyer, Guinea have been preparing in the French capital Paris for the match.
And Barry has stressed that his organisation will do everything to make sure that Guinea reach their first finals since 2008.
"We will do all that is necessary to maintain top spot in the group because this match is a decisive one," Barry, Secretary General of the Guinean Football Federation, added.
"I call on the sporting public of this country to rally behind the team as we are almost at the doorstep of Equatorial Guinea and Gabon."
Ahead of the final weekend of qualifying, a total of 10 places are still up for grabs at next January's finals. |

One of the qualifiers of the weekend will take place in Abuja on Saturday when Nigeria entertain Group B leaders Guinea.
The hosts know that only a 1-0 win, or a two-goal margin should the Syli Nationale score, will take them to the finals. Guinea's 1-0 victory at home last October remains the difference between the sides. Disciplinarian Nigeria coach Samson Siasia has dropped outspoken goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, fined midfielder John Mikel Obi and must do without injured Heartland right-back Chibuzor Okonkwo.
In the day's other game, Ethiopia host Madagascar in Addis Adaba with little seemingly at stake - but this is not the case. For whoever finishes bottom will have an impact on whether the second-placed team in the group can qualify for the finals as one of the two best runners-up.
With results against the bottom team not being taken into account, this could affect both Guinea (who have a better record against the Ethiopians) and Nigeria (who took more points off the Malagasy). This qualification thingy ain't as straightforward as most people might reckon! |

Personally, I feel Anderson is not playing very well at the moment but am not squarely placing the blame on his shoulder or anyother for that matter; my point and worry in general is we are relatively fine going forward but in defence, very poor. Just because we haven't been beaten yet doesn't make it alright. We don't have to wait till we get a proper hiding from some obscure non-league outfit before we realise that we have to sort out our midfield because that is where the bulk of the problem emanates. Yes, we are thrashing teams left, right and center but as at this stage last season, I felt more at ease with the team than than now. |

coogar: i have seen it! the potential of the current team is immense. if the injured players get back into the team - you would see the difference. Wouldn't do any good if that core in the middle is still as soft as jello! coogar: we had a terrible start last season. dropping useless points to average teams. we were just lucky most of the teams we faced were scared more of reputation than the players on the pitch. 5 away wins in 19 should tell you all you need to know about the team of last season. we were more comfortable not to get beaten than being proactive and going for the jugular from the blast of the whistle. if you enjoyed the start of last season, good luck to you - i did not! These teams you call 'average teams' (referring to Fulham and Everton) were a bit tougher last season and before those games we were more than a bit wary that they posed a threat. . . . so dropping points there was almost expected. Fine we had a terrible start, but grew stronger. . . .now, we've had a flying start which is slowly deteriorating to an extent where we can't even confidently stick our necks out against the likes of swansea and norwich home or away. You say we were lucky then; we are far more luckier presently that the likes of Chelsea, Basel, Norwich and Stoke didn't put away the free gifts we were handing them. . . .God only knows where we would be on the log! coogar: we have played arsenal, chelsea and tottenham. 3 of the top 5 teams that finished below us last season. compare it to fulham, bolton and everton we couldn't beat away from home last season. Minus tottenham. . . . .what we played was a shadow of those other teams. On a G day, would we beat a stable arsenal side 8-2!? coogar: pretty much happens like that everywhere. barcelona without xavi/iniesta are less potent! it's not the fault of anderson - it's the fault of the gaffer! we have the least number of mobile midfielders in europe! all we have are the robotic and pragmatic carrick, fletcher, gibson, etc. If the bloody anderson was that good, he would play well consistently even if he had dumbbells alongside him. For chrissakes, with scholes and carrick we looked like we had the mexican maginot installed in front of our defence! coogar: that's the thing - you cannot compare the premier league to other european leagues. the premier league is the toughest! in germany, bayern are the dominant force bar few seasons when they have been their own greatest enemy. in spain, it's between barcelona and real madrid - the other 18 teams are worse than tottenham(the 5th strongest team in england) france, italy, belgium, holland, scotland, etc are shyte leagues. Not comparing the leagues. . . .just saying there is a common trend with all the champs! coogar: so we don't dominate and we have won 6/7 games. last season, our dominating team won 3/7. ruudie - you are cracking up like rafa! Maybe you don't get 'domination' from my angle. . . . . we beat Norwich 2-0 but we never really 'dominated' them as such; on another day the scoreline woulda been different and that is what we should be wary of, that odd day when the opposition get the rub of the green and we don't. . . . . .and it is so looking like kalo'kalo at the moment. |

coogar: so what is to say the current bunch won't get stronger with time? they have only played 7 league games - unbeaten too! this is a team with a new young goalie(an incentive for smaller teams to be punting shots from ridiculous distances to test his resolve). if van der sar was still with us, the number of shots we have conceded this season would have been about 80% less. Stronger. . . . .am yet to see any of such promise. coogar: in which games did we shut teams out? we only managed to beat arsenal, a disappointing 2-2 draw against aston villa's reserve team full of rookies. beaten soundly by wolves, couldn't beat sunderland, birmingham, everton, blackburn rovers and bolton. we were super shyte last season. we got there because the teams below us had worse issues to deal with it. Guy, you are just trying too hard to rubbish last season's team, just to make thses ones look good in contrast. . . . .shyte or not, we saw 'em grow from strength to strength and for me, the performances and results speak for themselves. Like I said earlier, I watched most games last season and that before (especially after the early slip-ups) with a certain calm assured in the know that the worst was a draw and this was mainly due to the fact that we had a strong spine, didn't let in that many goals - am not expecting you to tell me you felt the same but I know many UTD fans who did! And before we start getting too carried away with the "excellent" footie so far or start trying to 'downgrade' the opposition of early last season, who have we played so far - an arsenal side bare to the bones like Railway corporation during a mass retrenchment or is it a chelsea still trying to come to terms with itself, west brom, norwich, or bolton that gets beaten by every tom, dick and city!!? Abegi! coogar: de gea factor! we have mentioned this weeks ago. de gea's statistics in spain prove he's vulnerable to long distance shots. visiting managers tell their wards to pepper his goal with shots as soon as the opportunity avails itself.
dis na very lame excuse jare. . . . Chelsea, Basel, Norwich were waltzing into our 18 like no-man's business; Torres even had the luxury of rounding the goalie in a space as big as my parlour and missing from what, 3-4 yards out!?
coogar: bayern and barcelona don't play in the english league - those examples are irrelevant as far as i am concerned until they come to the premier league to play. i don't reckon with what happens in those shyte leagues where 90% of the teams in the league are shyte! Well, if you ask me. . . . this league is looking more and more shyte than those now - or how else can we explain the fact that the supposed 'best player' (life and soul) of the best team in the league needs to constantly have one or two specific valets in tow before he can give us a decent enough performance!
1-0 and 100-99 attract 3 points each! taking 3 points is the tool you need to win the league. united have done that now 6 times in 7 league games! But look around Europe and tell which champion emerged playing 100-99 scorelines consistently!!? You have a higher probability if success when you DOMINATE. . . . .clearly we are not domineering enough. There is a certain team of midgets that don't even allow the opposing team hold the ball for up to a minute and all am advocating is not giving the opponents too clear a sight of our goal, is that too much to ask? |

Good news for us.
Not with the midfield we've got. . . . . . as long as there's little or no support for that back for, they'll keeping looking in 6s and 7s anytime we are under the cush! |
