HISchild:
"Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh." - Gen 2:24
Problem with the bible and a lot of the other holy books you can never quite tell if the statement is literal or otherwise. . . . . . .I mean when they say 'leave his father and mother'; does it necessarily translate to physical distance measured in mileages!!?

Why marry if that's the case
Brings us to a related topic. . . . . .some folks here were very critical of a fella who was vehemently kicking against marriages by 'financially incapable' people.

@ Topic,
such a proposal most often than not comes up in situations where the man and his wife in question cannot afford a place of their own. I have personally seen such arrangement in a family; not comfy by any means, but, bar not get married at all, what else could they have done!?

Now I can understand why most of us are very upset with Orikinla, his choice of words have done him very little favors here. . . . . .in his defence, a man of his exposure (according to what he has disclosed anyway) must have seen or experienced enough to be this distressed, hence his outbursts - we are all humans afterall and prone to our own little flaws every now and then, so I believe he can be pardoned or certain of his vitriolic comments overlooked.
With that said, as much as folks here abhor; Orikinla does present some valid, sensible, un-ignorable points. . . . .look beyond the choice of words and you might see.
why marry if you are still going to be unfaithful? why marry if you cannot fend for the family? why marry if you cannot effectively communicate in a civil manner? why marry if you cannot compromise? why marry if you cannot coexist?

I think the one defining reason why anyone would get married is because they are ready. . . . .'ready' in every sense conceivable; be it financial, physical, physiological, mental, spiritual!

It is true that not all problems of this nation stem from 'failed' or 'wrong' marriages, but if we have to be honest with ourselves, a fair majority of them have their roots from there and we see it around us everyday.

I think slowly we are gonna see some of these guys being drafted in. Fryers almost certainly has one foot in the first team already. . . . .the others (especially the midfielders) better start preparing themselves for first-team action because as long as that the injury list keeps adding up, we've got nowhere else to turn to.
The only man I would have loved UTD to have bought, be it at January, July or whenever is Scott Parker and he is already off the market. . . . . .Ryan Tunnicliffe seems an appealing prospect - because, seriously, we need some 'zobo' eyed men in that middle, I mean real, raw steel!

Fletchie's gist comes as a shock; must be very gutting for the young man and saddening for MUFC as a whole. . . . .probably this why there was so much reluctance to feature him. I hope Berbatov doesn't have his own surprise news coming up too.

Anyways, I guess this along with the many injuries gives us a chance to really promote some of this so much hyped youngsters we've been hearing about. I still maintain, no panic-buying in January; see the season out, buy with brain and start on a fresh page!

Even at 1-0 down. . . . . .Barca won the psychological tussle by refusing to be forced into playing long balls out of defence. I watched in utter disbelief as time and time again, even after Valdes had goofed and Madrid players kept pouring forward to pile the pressure, they kept at it; passing the ball in their defence area like no biggie - quite impressive cuz it takes balls to do.

Pep certainly showed some tactical genius, effectively playing a back-3; Alves was pushed up to right wing while Puyol slotted into right-back, Busquets dropping back to pair Pique if needed. It was quite a fluid system. . . . .transforming from 3-4-3 to 4-3-3 so constantly, no wonder Real players were a bit bamboozled especially in the midfield area.

For Real Madrid, they really do not always have to play their football at such breath-taking pace, especially when they are in the box-seat. . . . .and it is breath-taking literally because by the 70th minute, most of them always look jaded, out of breath and steam!

@ Starboard,

I beg to differ. . . . . .as far as am concerned, there is not one single player that has contributed to the successes of UTD even before SAF came on-board that hasn't been given special tribute, mention, support or consideration be it from the club itself or media and fans. So to say, all glory is recorded against SAF's name only is totally out of line. Sir Alex is not Jose Mourinho!
Secondly, he picked the team. . . . .yes! But pray, tell me in all sincerity that the team is not strong enough to get the desired result from Basle!!?

Bottomline, on the final day. . . . .when we needed them the most, our so-called bunch of 'superstars' didn't show up. Shikena!

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Premier League Champions 2010/11 by RuuDie(m): 4:30am On Dec 10, 2011
Sir Alex Ferguson has cautioned against Manchester United supporters expecting a sudden influx of January signings following this week's Champions League exit.

Debate amongst fans about the reason for United's stunning slide from has centred around the midfield. Many felt it was lacking quality even before Paul Scholes' retirement in the summer, and injuries to Tom Cleverley and Anderson, plus Michael Carrick's suspension forced Ferguson to rely on 37-year-old Ryan Giggs and teenage rookie Phil Jones as his central midfield partnership in Basle.

It seems like an unsustainable situation, especially for a club of United's standing. However, Ferguson said: "It is very difficult to buy players in January."

He added: "You don't just want to buy any player simply because it gives you another one. You want to buy someone who can make a difference.

"We have only had maybe four or five signings in my time here in January. It is not a consistent route for us simply because of all the disadvantages."

The disadvantages are even more complicated this year because United are still familiarising themselves with the rules of the Europa League.

For United, that means they would be allowed to add one player to their Europa League squad who has played in the Champions League this season, as long as it was not for one of the other seven clubs who have been dropped into the secondary competition.

"It is not easy to get players in January," said Ferguson.

"I am not quite sure if you went for a player if he could play in the Europa League. There is criteria there in the sense of playing in the Champions League and whether they could play in the Europa League.

"There are a lot of issues there but there is nothing in my mind at the moment."

Am glad SAF is not going to be pressured into making rash 'January buys' if his words are anything to go by. . . . . .this team still has what it takes, its left for them to prove so!

I just find it amusing that guys are trying to blame SAF for not playing this or playing that. . . . . . . .its not about the personnel or selection, its about the bulk of those lads not playing at the very top of their game when they needed to! They and not SAF, have let us down!!!

I still do not suscribe to buying in January. . . . .I still with the injured players back, the squad will be large enough to see the remainder of the season through. Not all new signings jell instantly and in our present condition, better to work on the strength of continuity and stability than risk the uncertainty new faces might introduce to the team.

SAF is not without his blames, along the lines he has made several bad, costly decisions but lets be honest, these players for me are the ones who have let us down badly.
With the exception of the Phil Jones midfield experiment, nothing else was wrong with the selection. . . . .those guys just didn't play. Giggs and Jones, by far, ranked as some of the better performers in that game.
Nani, Young, Rooney, Park. . . . .? These guys have played and can play several different positions on the park for chris'sakes. . . . .I mean is Fergie supposed to get off his seat and tell them elementary *ish like swap wings, open up to receive a pass, press and tackle the opponents to win back the ball, jeez. Even "Baby Barca" without a coach can do all this. SAF can't run into the pitch with a cane to wake 'em up from their slumber and he certainly cannot run around, scream, shout, whistle and throw tantrums like Pep, AVB or JM (for the love of God, the man is in his 70's), so there has to be a leader on that field. Go check out the recent interview of our ex-skippo, Keane. . . . he never once stroked the manager and I go with his line of reasoning.

Yeah, its looking gloom. . . . .but it isn't over till the fat lady sings - if we can put our house back in order now, we still have a shot at 3 trophies.

IMHO.
I don't want to see MAN UTD go into the market in January and do a 'panic buy' - I don't think that'd be necessary; cuz I still think we have a good and sizable enough squad to see the season through. . . . .the attitude and work ethics is the only thing that has got to change. . . . .SAF the onus is on you; time to show your true worth, time to show that you've still got what it takes!

1 UTD 4 LIFE!

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Premier League Champions 2010/11 by RuuDie(m): 5:53am On Dec 09, 2011
Its not so much of SAF's fault, these players have hardly covered themselves in glory with the exception of a few. . . . .from the go, we always knew Europe was where the 'real' challenge is. We have a big squad, albeit a collection of mostly mediocre players who get crocked almost at will; but if they put in their shift, work hard, play as a unit we can still achieve some measure of success.

Against Basel, we just were not exerting ourselves; too many times they have men who made runs right from their box straight to the edge of ours - unchallenged. . . .shocking!
Nani for me, is as frustrating a player as I've ever seen in all my years of watching football. . . . .what is wrong with that dude, can anybody please tell!!? Rooney is just a shadow of himself. . . . .and the play is beginning to get aimless. . . .cross and nod was better - this one is just cross and hope!

First things first. . . .its the marking; 4-6-0, 5-5-0 or 4-4-2 would make absolutely no difference if the personnel are not falling back and actually tackling to win possession. . . . .Everybody, especially those in midfield have to double up their work-rate; wingers should fall back and even come infield if possible to crowd that midfield area.
And then somehow, we have to get the adrenaline pumping back in the veins of these lads. . . . .I don't care what the critics say - the ability/creativity is still there, we just have to get the energy levels higher, get the lads motivated. Get aggressive, ferocious even. . . . .quit strolling and play with some purpose, like we want to win!

I don't want to see us go into the market in January and 'panic buy' - I still think we have a good enough squad. . . . .the attitude and work ethics just has to change. . . . .SAF, time to show your true worth!
