5 minutes delay. . . . . . Gijon vs Sevilla

No Jesus Navas, no Kanoute; Renato starts (*a rarity these days*). Lets see what Manzano's got up his sleeves for tonight.

FORZA SEVI-JE!

Abegi y'all should give Roy a break jor'. . . . . If Rafa, Gillet & Hicks had left Anfield in a better state on and off the field, do you think L'pool would be in this current predicament + its still early days, there's 30 bleeping games to go, 90 bleeping points still to play for; what good would sacking a manager now do & what is the guarantee that the new man will do anything to salvage the situation!

True. . . . Barca were very impressive in half-2 had to be very strong to win this 1 . But the rest of La Liga better be wary of Valencia, they might just win this ligue even without Villa & Silva they have a real menacing air about 'em!

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Berbatov Versus Ibrahimovic by RuuDie(m): 9:06pm On Oct 14, 2010
Definitely cannot compare Berba to Ibra when it comes to putting the ball under control - if Berba's got nothing else, thats his forte.

I think what jalether means by "passing" is the short, quick 1-2 passes thats predominant in the play of Barca & Arsenal.

A bit stronger? Ibra has the strength of an Ox.
Barca ko Baba Suwe ni. What makes you think Berba would fit into their system, when Ibra(a rich man's Berba)couldn't?
. . . . Barca's game is pass & movement; slow, patient stuff whilst keeping the ball on the floor most of the times, Berba is a bit more at home in that kind of playing environment.

Well. . . . . mayb u know best since y'all have a 30milla striker who can't even score with his hands!

I'd say they are both on par when it comes to technique. . . . but Ibra would shade it a bit on account of strength - he is at least a bit stronger than Berba.

For me, I'd go for Berba any day; & I won't be surprised if Barca put out an offer for him someday. . . . he's just tailor-made for thier style.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by RuuDie(m): 7:47am On Oct 04, 2010
Arsenal did almost everything right up the Chelsea end of the pitch early on in the game --- they pressed, harried and marked. It was very clearly a marked improvement from previous Chelsea - Arsenal games I've seen. . . . . AW just needs to change his approach atimes. I was thinking a midfield 3 of Song/Nasir/and 1 of Diaby, Denilson or Eboue (I would have gone for the strength of Eboue) - Song & Eboue just sitting in front of that back-4, there was hardly any support when Song ventured upfield. They had enough quality to hurt chelsea on the counter. Wilshere had a good game but had no business in there, it was a way too physical game for him. & then again, the perennial Arsenal problem, finishing was just not there!

Anyways, there was some positives & I still think with a full complement of their squad, Arsenal can still hurt Chelsea this season in the return leg!

My heartfelt sympathies to Roy Hodgson. . . . . . Rafa didn't do him any favors; he left a ship that would really take some doing to be stable again. The L'pool board are also not helping matters. To axe Roy would just be to compound the club's woes - not the thing to do at all.

But then again, for what Steven G did last season against Chelsea, i'll just say "SERVES 'EM BLOODY SCOUSERS RIGHT!"  grin

New Sevilla coach Gregorio Manzano congratulated the team after their 1-0 win away to Borussia Dortmund in his first game in charge.
By Paul Madden
Oct 1, 2010 4:43:00 AM
Sevilla coach Gregorio Manzano was pleased with his team's effort as they secured a 1-0 away win against Borussia Dortmund to put their Europa League campaign back on track.

Luca Cigarini netted the only goal of the game on the stroke of half-time to give Manzano a victory in his first game as coach and afterwards the former Mallorca boss admitted that his team suffered over the 90 minutes but he felt the three points made it worthwhile.

"I'm happy with the feeling that the team has given tonight, against a great opponent. We continue with our chances in the competition intact. We struggled to get this win, but it was well worth the suffering," he was quoted as saying afterwards by AS.

"You're happy when you win any game ever, though it is clear that there are situations in which we must further improve in attack and from midfield.
"I don't like to point out any particular player, but I must congratulate the team. The defensive system as a whole has been pretty good, considering that the opponent had powerful attacking options. We managed to hold that defensive line and maybe we could have done a little more damage ourselves."

Next up - Sevilla vs Ath. Madrid (La Liga / Sunday / 4pm)

Should be a tough tie. . . . . . we'll get to see, first-hand, the technical/tactical depth of Gregorio Manzano. Granted the current squad is lacking in quality compared to some other La Liga outfits but at least, its large enough to accomodate personnel change and switching of tactics/game plan.

A ragged performance but good win on a difficult away ground to kick-start the new Manager's reign.
