Mombasa - Island - yes part of old town - old town built in days there were no cars - tiny roads like you find in historical cities - most buildings protected by gov - so cannot be redeveloped. I think you got issues with some old town streets?

If you go to nearly every respectable hotel in east africa and part of central africa - and ask for the chief chef - it would be a Kenyan or graduate of Kenya Utali college. Outside the Swiss - premieur college for training chefs and hotels staff in Africa - is without doubt Kenya Utalii college. (utalli is kiwashili for tourist)

Most of Kenya Utalii college graduates proceed to Switzerland for more training on world best training in their trade and are most sought hoteliers worldwide. It almost unheard of a graduate of Utalii tarmacking or looking for work...it so prestigious majority give up university education for diploma in hotel management or culinary skills.

The next paramilitary police is kenya is Kenya Administration Police - they provide security all over - to gov buildings, banks, private building if you hire, have border control unit, and rapid deployment unit. They are deployed along villages...kenya has prov administration of national gov...consisting of chiefs, dcs, dos and prov administration.

Very rarely do KDF ever get deployed in Kenya - you can count with 5 fingers the number of their deployment in kenya since independence- West Gate was big screw up - otherwise Kenya military do not get see any kenya action - mostly UN Missions abroad.

If there are riots or issues - APs and GSUs - are deployed - they are trained and organized like military but also on dealing withpolice roles- civilian, criminal law, and such - something many Africa countries - including poor South Africa need to develop - not deploying military to deal with internal issues without the training on civilian jobs.

To be honest, this thread has been an eye-opener. I was also under impression that Nigeria and West Africa education systems were the last men standing - I didn't realize the kind of brain drain that had gone on - and all the smart Nigerians I heard - had basically bailed out of Nigeria.

Rarely have KDF been deployed in Kenya local operations.

Kenya internal security has many police wings - General police - and they are paramilitary wings - that deal with internal issues.

Police paramilitary have anti-stock theft unit (for dealing with cattler rustlers), anti terror squad, and other highly trained squad to deal with local issues and take suspect to court.

There are police officers...not ARMY. They deal with all security threats internally including guarding the presidents, airports and pretty much anything. KDF is only for external threats.

And in Nairobi/Nairobi metro - there is enough houses for anyone.

This is not west africa - where you pay six months or 2yrs -or cannot even find those houses
