I have been to windhoek - very very clean - but it sits on a desert - and only green thing is boungavelliea. Nairobi has RAW Materials to world best city. I cannot think about any city that can compete with Nairobi if we fix basic stuff. Nairobi with all it's dirty - is already 11st most ecofriendly city - and is only green city in the sun. Nairobi potential is incredible - if we we can only preserve the four rivers throught it - and have more green spaces in eastland of Nairobi. jln115: |
Karura forest - spreads in most of northern Nairobi - and provide huge green spaces - about 2,500 acres. Karura is sorrunded by upper class residence of Muthaiga, Gigiri, Runda,Balozi, Ridgeways, redhill. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ESKShJwZ3Q https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9CrnZFhe1Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XM31FgC5z0 |
The Nairobi CIty Park - sits on Parkland/Highridge - and Ngara/Pangani - and the start of the huge Karura forest https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kq4laU4AQ6k https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHOemFxWtAI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekYrFH8EEps |
The green spaces in Nairobi continues through Nairobi river - to the huge Nairobi Arborteum - that separates Kilimani/Milimani/Chiromo/Riverside. Nairobi arboretum is a huge nature park - is about max 2km from Nairobi CBD - Westland CBD - and all the nice places. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yx_kCstegCY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gge8jUEtyIU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwzhjY7H4fM |

Nairobi parks - Nairobi just need a little fix here and there to compete with Rwanda's Kigali for clean city. The army guys are working hard. Nairobi central and Uhuru park - and michuki memorial park green zone that separates Nairobi 3 cbds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeM1QBwWJos John Michuki park - separates Nairobi CBD with Westland https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BK-qaHD5Mw |
For gov to continue borrowing they have to rebase and hope the GDP is underestimated - otherwise we are hitting dangerous gdp to debt level. kikuyu1: |
Obtuse, Nominal GDP = Quantity A * CurrentPrice Real GDP= Quantity A* BasePrice All in local currency. jln115: |
Safaricom approaches 15B dollars in valuation. Should now be comfortably in the top 5 in Africa in market cap. And yet they are only in the kenya market. Now only Nasper, First Rand, Anglo America plantinum and Absa Bank above them. https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/bd/corporate/companies/safaricom-share-nse-to-a-12-month-high-3291304 |
I don't. Link. Shaytun: |
Maybe? Until then it's still flying unlike Nigerian Airways Shaytun: |
Giant of 200M per capita is with Niger and Chad. Shaytun: |
KQ+jambojet alone is better than all you airlines combined. Shaytun: |
17m against kenya 13m - only 4m difference - yet population difference is humongous. South Africa - OR Tambo 21m - Capetown 5m plus. So Air Industry is South Africa, Egypt, Morroco, Ethiopia. Shaytun: |
RSA nominal GDP ten years ago was 420B - and now is just well over 330B. It very bad Kenya nominal GDP has risen from 40 to nearly 100B - we are even due for re-basing. It very excellent. I am am NOT an economist - I am software engineer. jln115: |
Nigeria should aim for helicopters first before trying airlines. Nearly every Kenyan tycoon or politician in kenya own their private helicopters. Most top politicians fly choppers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ep24pTjzRX8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybi8M4CAV50 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-_iRyYRybs https://businesstoday.co.ke/list-of-kenyans-who-own-helicopters-and-cost-of-hiring-one/ |
I know South Africa economy has been doing badly the last 10yrs and expectation for next 10yrs are equal bad. As for academic debate - I am game. jln115: |
Kenya has 50 airlines versus Nigeria 15 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_airlines_of_Nigeria https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_airlines_of_Kenya Shaytun: |
Flying only 17m passengers annually. Just learn to use West Africa. I doubt you have many domestic airlines than kenya. I bet most of 17m are international flights carried by foreigners Do you even fly regionally to say Benin? or Ghana Shaytun: |
Everyone can make prediction. I have made mine for 15yrs. I just don't see South Africa moving forward. At best I see it stuck but very likely it will keep coming down. For now work on this figures 100B versus 300B - very near in the long term - esp when South Africa prognosis in medium term is bad - Eskom, poor HCI and racial tensions. Maybe minning will lift your economy like it has done for 100yrs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APg0tsnPS-s jln115: |
Long arguments will not move south africa nominal gdp from 300B - it will keep waiting for kenya to overtake it - in 15yrs max. jln115: |
Pretty cool for kenya because in 10yrs it has double it's economy and yours has shrunk. It's now nearly 95B versus 330B - estimated for 2020 - waiting for final report soon. 10 yrs ago - it was nearly 11 times bigger - now just 3-4 times bigger. And this now 3rd year we are arguing as you try desperately to denigrated nominal GDP. jln115: |
Real GDP - would use base year prizes (market prizes 5 or 10 years ago - depending on your base years) - that is absolute gdp - without any inflation. And I mean prize inflation - NOT currency inflations. Therefore nominal GDP is affected by first inflation (market prizes) and then currency inflation against USD. jln115: |
Still big drop and huge stagnation in 10yrs. If not you'd be like Indonesia or Thailand or China. But look now - Kenya is now aiming for you in 15yrs max. 10yrs ago - Kenya nominal gdp was 40B - South Africa 410B. Now as we speak it's nearly 3 times large - Not 10 times! That mean ceteris peribus - 10yrs from now - Kenya GDP would be 250B or about - and South Africa - will probably do another drop to 280B! jln115: |
To be precise, Nominal gpd - gdp * market prizes (local currency) - the total is then simply divided by official exchange rate at end of that year. And that become GDP that folks care about. Nobody cares about PPP or Real GDP outside internal analysis...like I told for stuff like poverty analysis...and other local issues. jln115: |
You're pasting link without explaining where prizes in USD are shown. No country keep prize series in USD except maybe US and Zimbwabwe. That would insanity. How would you prize local stuff in USD? The conversion is done as the end of year - official exchange rate - and if Kshs gdp is 9 trillion and USD is now 108 - expect Kenya GDP to take a huge hit. That is why South Africa for 10yrs has dropped from 415billion to 300B or less - and hence this long long debate. jln115: |
Insanity. Base prizes are in Kshs. Market Prizes are in Kshs. The conversion at prevailing USD rate is done instantiounsly . that is why currency appreciation or depriciation affect nominal GDP instantly,. jln115: |
GDP at market prizes (nominal) - based KSHS. Not dollars. Then to get USD - is simply to divide by exchange rate - and this kenya would not even care about - it's like of IMF/WB - to do this. jln115: |
Let me also destroy you. In 2019 (economic report released in 2020) - Kenya real GDP was 9.7B trillion Kshs - and when converted to dollars - was simply around 96B dollars - because 1USD was equal to 102 Kshs. Real gdp at absolute prices (base year prize) versus Gdp at market prices - calculated in Kshs -- is nominal GDP - and conversion is final stage - just total gdp/divided usd at time of reporting. here is the link https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/s3.sourceafrica.net/documents/119905/KNBS-Economic-Survey-2020.pdf jln115: |
I'd like to see the dollars in the GDP. You're more than obtuse. Constant price are based on base year (this when stastitics body gather market prices for all sort of things) - and use that series for next few years - until they rebase agan. All the prices are in local currency(KSH/Rand). Nominal GDP is just real gdp divided by the prevailing dollar exchange rate. And PPP is more intense - like calculating real gdp - prizes of all products and services are generated - and converted to PPP equivalent. jln115: |
