Our indians have longer history of business and privilege under the colonial caste system. The ones that have money inherited business started in 1910s or 1920s. Our Indians came in 1890s to construct the Kenya-Uganda Railway as indentured labor for the Brits. After the railway construction, they started retail business along the railway stations, as early as 1900s.

Nairobi and many towns grew out of those railway stations - with indians controlling retail & wholesaling business - a few got into farming and manufacturing.

When we got independence in 1963 - we kicked Indians out of retail and wholesales - and they went into manufacturing. That only sector they dominate - and they've made a fortune from it.

The 1M indians you have are fresh indians from India who came to run your retail and wholesale - their own hardwares, supermarkets and likes all over Nigeria cities. You're dealing with brand-new Indians. We are dealing with Kiswahili speaking Indian-Kenya (now a tribe in Kenya).

Firstly ,Dangote does produce tomatoes rather he processes it, so u need to consult your dictionary on how to differentiate BTW "production" and "processing" secondly,Dangote is a Nigerian and very dark in complexion for that matter.
Lastly, How are these Data gotten?, these Data are gotten from the "verified" information provided by different Top agencies by these top tomatoes producing states at the state level, then compiled together at the Federal level.
Bellow are top tomatoes producing states in Nigeria, you could search on amount of tomatoes being produced by these state then sum it up your self.

The statistics of tomato production shows that an average price per ton of tomatoes in the market is about $350. It means that Aliko Dangote is ready to pay double the price to support farmers, also, Nigerians tends to prefers fresh tomatoes to processed once.

Yes, I did my youth service around that place and popped into the core north a couple of times on brief visits. The economy of the north is not the problem although it can be improved. At least they produce so much agricultural produce. But their governors have not harnessed this to the advantage of the north.

There was a time when the north was Nigeria's textile manufacturing hub but they let it slide.

The north produces more tomatoes and onions than any African country but then they sell these products so cheaply in the south. So in a nutshell, if Nigeria can harness the north's potential, wealth would increase across board.And again, the north has massive infrastructure.

But the main problems are illiteracy and poor healthcare. The north simply refuses to fully embrace western education. This affects their standard of living and health and drags down Nigeria's stats.

Boundaries of Kenya counties were reverted to 1963. Mombasa or Nairobi County boundaries is as of 1963 but obviously, the city metro is huge. Mombasa alone has more hotels than the whole of Nigerian combine. Mombasa tourism just scratched the services - and I cannot think of better investment down there - than cleaning up Mombasa city. Clean Mombasa is not exclusively for tourism - it's for residence. The folks that live in slums - there is really not much gov can do - because you cannot invest public money in places without title and such illegal structures. They will stay that way until we eradicate poverty and it's manifestations (slums).

The Aid scourge started in Congo forest and then moved to East Africa - with Uganda becoming the hardest hit in 80s and Kenya in 90s - and then it spread Southern Africa countries.

Uganda & Kenya have largely fought off the epidemics and are noted success stories in that fight. Southern Africa countries are just about turning the corner...they know understand what Kenya & Uganda went through in 80s and 90s.

Kenya saw it's life expectancy drops to low of 45yrs in 90s - as people were dying like fleas - but look - we are now on 67-69 yrs - and have changed the story completely.

Now the HIV-AIDS epidemics is turning towards West Africa - and Nigeria is not prepared to deal with it - they haven't even dealt with Polio and many diseases that have been eliminated elsewhere.

Wealthy Kenyans have wired back an estimated Sh1 trillion from offshore accounts in the past three years, taking advantage of a tax amnesty offered by the Treasury.

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) in a response to Business Daily queries said the amount was repatriated by some 16,000 applicants who took advantage of the amnesty window during which they were not required to declare the source of their wealth or even account for previous years’ tax arrears.

“We have received over 16,000 applicants with the amount repatriated so far at Sh1,014,058,103,551. The incentive was meant to encourage Kenyans to repatriate their wealth back to the country for purposes of development,” said KRA in a statement.
