The Indian gave my alma mater a tower tall than anything you posted recently - and is one big philanthropist. If there was a good kenyan Indian - it would be MANU. I know you're frustrated because you found kenya manufacturing too competitive for Nigerian used to federal protection and favours in terms - of forex control & import control. Manilal Premchand Chandaria OBE CBS EBS [1] is a Kenyan businessman of Indian descent born in Nairobi on 1 March 1929. Along with being a senior member of the Comcraft Group of Companies, a billion dollar enterprise that has a presence in over 40 countries,[2][3] he is on the boards of several prominent East African companies. obaaderemi: |
First Manu(Manuchandaria) was not in Nigeria. Now he is not the biggest Manu is africa leader in that sector. Quit being an idiot.medropoly: |

They control manufacturing - and kenyans are slowly & surely taking over. We kicked them out of basic stuff - and they now do stuff most kenyans cannot yet do - and we are all happy. It could be done by foreigners anyway - but these are 5th generation proud kenya-Indians. obaaderemi: |
What nonsense is that? You think Kenya is Nigeria where Indians are allowed to do the basic stuff - we banned Indians. Chinese and foreigners from hawking or selling roasted maize in streets - and we only allow them to operate complicated things. They are not allowed to set dukas in most towns. For them to get work-permit - the process is now very tedious. And Kenya-Asians took that cue - and went into manufacturing - and they arguably one of most successful indians out there. We are doing the same with Chinese or Whites - you cannot come to open a shop or work unless it proven there are no capable kenyans. Manu Chandaria dominates AFRICA including Nigeria in steel and aluminum sheet. They also have significant operation in Asia. This just small part of comcraft. In west Africa - part of their congolmerate operates as Tower Aluminium In rest of Africa - Safal. https://safalgroup.com/assets/image-cache/content/images/SafalGroupMapsFlags2.39252e16.png medropoly:

The correlation is obvious. Until you meet cooked Nigeria GDP of 400B with budget of 25B dollars. Stevoh18: |
Indians won't be running the most basic of Nigeria business if you had some brains. theenchanter: |
Does an Indian automatically make the top 100 in any country . Our indians have longer history of business and privilege under the colonial caste system. The ones that have money inherited business started in 1910s or 1920s. Our Indians came in 1890s to construct the Kenya-Uganda Railway as indentured labor for the Brits. After the railway construction, they started retail business along the railway stations, as early as 1900s. Nairobi and many towns grew out of those railway stations - with indians controlling retail & wholesaling business - a few got into farming and manufacturing. When we got independence in 1963 - we kicked Indians out of retail and wholesales - and they went into manufacturing. That only sector they dominate - and they've made a fortune from it. I mean Manu Chandaria also dominate your steel & aluminum sector ![]() The 1M indians you have are fresh indians from India who came to run your retail and wholesale - their own hardwares, supermarkets and likes all over Nigeria cities. You're dealing with brand-new Indians. We are dealing with Kiswahili speaking Indian-Kenya (now a tribe in Kenya). Let not talk about OIL & WHITES (SHELL) controlling your oil industry for a change. Also lets not talk about LEBANESE controlling your manufacturing. 68816419: |
Of course, I know the difference btw processing and production. Nice attempt. Now can you get us some breakdown of the 1.5-1.8 metric tonnes of Tomatos. Let keep it tomatos for now. 68816419: |
You could be precise and say SSA. It's not like you're trying to come up with production figures of Tomatos in Nigeria - a herculean task. I am researching your agri estimation methods. I see for example for like 10-15yrs - every year - despite say weather discrepancies, disease and such- you're always producing 1.5M metric tonnes of Tomatos . You look at Kenya figures or South Africa figures...there is a high degree of precision. The last crop survey you did in 1960s: ![]() All your crop production data are wild guestimates - and hence our theory that your GDP is unreliably cooked is starting to firm up. obaaderemi: |
You've improved from Davido nonsense (music, fashion, movies) and now you're hanging on Dangote little straws to prop really idiotic arguments. The richest men in Kenya are Kenyattas and Mois - and that shouldn't matter. Dangote got very rich when he corrupted Abuja to enact a monopoly in your market. What really matters for me and any right thinking person - is whether we are attracting investment and not. I don't care the color of investors - as long as they are not corrupting political class to sell us substandard products for top dollar like Dangote. Our Indians are getting tightly integrated into the society. They are kenyans. They are not stashing their loot in Indian or elsewhere anymore because we are now a modern country that doesn't care about the color of any investor or businessman. You've a long way to mature. obaaderemi: |
Nigeria is NOT - even when it cookes figures Africa largest producer. You need to remove Egypt from Africa who produces 8M metric tonnes. You claim to produce 1.5M - like anything Nigeria you don;t have precise number - just huge round off based on guess work. obaaderemi: |
You have 1M indians in Nigerian - running your retail and wholesale trade. We have 100K indians citizen in Kenya. Let's not even talk about lebanese. Or even the whites controlling your most important resources - Oil. India buy your cheap crude and sell you back refined oil. This is your Min of Foreign Affairs.."He said that more than 100 Indian companies operated in the country in different sectors and there were about one million Indian citizens in Nigeria". And you have about 0.5M nigerians enduring racism in India ![]() obaaderemi: |
Obaboon - that is beyond your paygrade.Kenya GDP and taxes are verifiable. You cannot have GDP of 50B that easily gives gov (alone) 20B dollars - let not even add County Gov. You're embarrassing the already pathetic Nigerian education. As we speak - our national budget is 31B - and your historically high federal budget is 24B. Just think about that. I just asked you a simple questions. Without any formal data - how dod you know what you produce. All I have seen are estimates. Wild guestimates. obaaderemi: |
If there is more recent data - that is even more lovely. The issues is how do you know what your produce in Nigeria where informal agriculture is the norm. I see Dangote is trying to get Abuja Fed gov to ban the importation of Tomato paste so he can monopolize the market. What is local quality of tomatoes. The reality is Nigeria is wilderness without rural road network and tomatoes arrived when they were rotten. But Dangote is determined to own you ![]() 68816419: |
In nearly every aspect - they are regressing. Obaboon who went through the horrendous Nigerian university education cannot comprehend this. TayserMahri: |
Why is Nigeria the world biggest importer of tomato sauce if Nigeria is Africa biggest producer. Even lying requires intelligence. Dangote put a tomato factory somewhere North and it collapsed for lack of tomatoes. The last I heard he is now forced to go into planting tomatoes. I Keep asking you to show us how you estimate or more guestimate your production figures! Africa biggest tomato producer!!-On paper this looked like a smart move as Nigeria imports up to 400,000 tons of tomato paste annually. Ghost tomato factory showcase for Nigeria's farming problems https://www.reuters.com/article/us-nigeria-farming/ghost-tomato-factory-showcase-for-nigerias-farming-problems-idUSKCN1BA0IZ The West African nation imports staples from milk to wheat to tomato paste, with funds it mainly earns from exporting oil. obaaderemi: |
Keep lying to yourself. You have more HIV infections than Kenya. And you just got started. You have more NEW Infections. And MORE DEATHS...3 times. https://www.avert.org/sites/default/files/styles/responsive_articlecustom_user_desktop_1x/public/Kenya%20updated%20August2017_1.png?itok=w9r4d8QO×tamp=1539099278 obaaderemi: |
Convert that to dollars - otherwise worthless Naira may impress you but not urs. Nigeria Stock Exchange if you remove Dangote companies (Cement & Sugar) would be equal to Dar Exchange. What makes you think other countries have listed. obaaderemi: |
Fact is Nigeria NEW HIV infection rate is higher than Kenya. You can knock yourself out over that. https://www.avert.org/sites/default/files/styles/article_scale_style_780/public/Nigeria%20updated%20August2017_2.png?itok=EoQeKCd_×tamp=1539170354 obaaderemi: |
I knew you were obtuse mr Obabaoon you sure never heard of sacrasm. obaaderemi: |
Boundaries of Kenya counties were reverted to 1963. Mombasa or Nairobi County boundaries is as of 1963 but obviously, the city metro is huge. Mombasa alone has more hotels than the whole of Nigerian combine. Mombasa tourism just scratched the services - and I cannot think of better investment down there - than cleaning up Mombasa city. Clean Mombasa is not exclusively for tourism - it's for residence. The folks that live in slums - there is really not much gov can do - because you cannot invest public money in places without title and such illegal structures. They will stay that way until we eradicate poverty and it's manifestations (slums). 68816419: |
You could have saved us 5,000 pages if you had shared this very salient point to Nigerians. I am not sure there is any more populated wilderness like North Nigeria where 100M - to quote Obaboon- have literally turned their back to modernity. Most of East Africa apart from remote pockets up in deserts - are consists of farmers - more like you got in Southern Nigeria. What you don't have is millions of North Nigeria kind of mess anywhere in Africa outside Ethiopia. In that regard Ethiopia and Nigeria are the same - 100M & 200M extremely poor people.Ethiopia like Kenya lacks any natural resources that can be leverage - has done a commendable job - while Nigeria with so much Oil - is getting deeper and deeper into poverty. 68816419: |
60% of them are not on any treatment and Nigeria or India led in new infections. Your under-funded and totally disorganized gov that is unable to fight even polio - has no chance on HIV-AIDS. I think US gov is keeping close tabs - so that may help. Kenya HIV aids burden relates to 90s. These are people who have stayed with the disease for 20-30yrs now. We have managed to keep those 1.9M living longer and longer. In fact we removed HIV from terminal disease because of interventions. Worry about this - Nigeria has more HIV-infected babies than anywhere in the world. Otherwise, Kenya HIV infected persons is okay 1.9M is nothing compared to South Africa 7M - and soon Nigeria may even break the record. obaaderemi: |
It's more than - the 1.4M nigerian infected and not on any treatment - will spread that virus like a wildfire. Problemkid1: |
Why do have such low life expectancy without HIV-AIDS epidemics hitting your shores?. Don't celebrate yet - because once HIV-AIDS is done with Nigeria - you'll have many stories to tell. The Aid scourge started in Congo forest and then moved to East Africa - with Uganda becoming the hardest hit in 80s and Kenya in 90s - and then it spread Southern Africa countries. Uganda & Kenya have largely fought off the epidemics and are noted success stories in that fight. Southern Africa countries are just about turning the corner...they know understand what Kenya & Uganda went through in 80s and 90s. Kenya saw it's life expectancy drops to low of 45yrs in 90s - as people were dying like fleas - but look - we are now on 67-69 yrs - and have changed the story completely. Now the HIV-AIDS epidemics is turning towards West Africa - and Nigeria is not prepared to deal with it - they haven't even dealt with Polio and many diseases that have been eliminated elsewhere. What matters in life - is PROGRESS - are you moving forward or backward. obaaderemi: |

Kazikazi:Kenya is a low middle class nation.Youre HIPC.Heavily Indebted Poor Country.Dont talk about debt when you cannot repay your debts since 1970s |
it's very funny when long standing member of HIPC talk about debt.I am mean to this day WB is still babysitting yoi because you're unable to pay your debts.Kenya is a big boy that borrow and repay. You laughable maths skill aside...we have revenues of 22B plus few grants here and there that takes us 24B.We will borrow 6B and repay 6B.it balance out.its called debt refinancing .If we had unsustainable debt like Tanzania we would be depending on donors and IMF for debt relief Kazikazi: |
How much of your budget is Omba Omba from donors. Start there. And everytime you talk bad about gays - you're gonna lose that money. I think around 20% of your budget is donor-funded. Kazikazi: |
Obaboon, Swiss and Brits have returned peanuts to Nigeria. They returned what 320M dollars? You have at least more than 140B dollar hidden all over the world...and you're getting peanuts. You need to use your brains like we do here. Kenyans have stashed something close to 5 trillion kshs (50 billon dollars) in offshore accounts. Last three year - we offered them NO ASK NO TAX amnesty - and at least 1 trillion Kshs (10B dollars) has been returned and if we keep the policy few more years - we will get back all the money into the economy https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/news/Rich-Kenyans-wire-back-Sh1trn-in-offshore-banks/539546-5124514-vctcsiz/index.html Wealthy Kenyans have wired back an estimated Sh1 trillion from offshore accounts in the past three years, taking advantage of a tax amnesty offered by the Treasury. The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) in a response to Business Daily queries said the amount was repatriated by some 16,000 applicants who took advantage of the amnesty window during which they were not required to declare the source of their wealth or even account for previous years’ tax arrears. “We have received over 16,000 applicants with the amount repatriated so far at Sh1,014,058,103,551. The incentive was meant to encourage Kenyans to repatriate their wealth back to the country for purposes of development,” said KRA in a statement. |
