Kenya vibrant MV industry start from body building for buses, truck, trailers, motor cycles, spare parts before we even get CKD and FBU - and most are export to the Eastern Africa region.
Try compare Ghana with Uganda.
Not kenya.
Just30: Kenya has never had .... I won't call 3,000 production and 5,000 new cars purchased a vibrant MV industry
From the 60s to the 80s or 90s, almost 90% of vehicles used in Ghana assemble here.
Just30: as usual, drag everyone into Kenya misery of default and bankruptcy Wasn't registered cars in Kenya last year just a little over 100,000…? Ghana did 140,000 in 5 months
How has it helped Nigeria except spawn 3 exchange rates - and generated poverty at industrial scale last seen in China 1950s.
Manage the economy well.
If you want to discourage import - it enough to levy import duties.
Leave forex controls - it never end well.
Relax - allow forex to flow in and flow out. The moment you panick and try to close the outflow - you're dead.
Trick is simple - remove forex restrictions - dont panick - and everything will work out - there will be enough forex for even someone who want to import total unneccesary stuff
vaxx: what is this one saying ? Even in Nigeria , there is a tall list of commodity you can get dollar support for . At least rice , chicken and cooking oil is one example you can never get a forex for?
Ghana will also borrowed from that rigid system that protect naira for sometimes . We are not even putting a stop , you can import but go and look for your forex elsewhere .
Put a credible link - otherwise your words are not worthy a warm spit of saliva from Nana Akufo who bankrupted Ghana
vaxx: it is a fact I throw at your eyes , yours is to discredit it. We used more cars per head than you... A simple google will have exposed this fact . But you love blind argument .
You're not longer distinguishable from the JustMad.
vaxx: random nonsense. Do you make sense ....am I comparing Ghana automobile industry against that of south africa ? Am only letting him know whatever that is happening in south africa , we are also doing it here . That's is simple , it might not be as big as southy but definitely we are doing it.
But as for kenya , Ghana is actually way ahead. At least by average used , Ghanaian used more cars than Kenya
Unfortunately, this kind of thinking extend all the way to upper echelon of ghana. That is why they raided their last forex - and attempt to defended the Cedis. Now their coffers are empty of forex.
We are going for classic default in mid-January.
IMF just has to permanently relocate to help them - they cant.
popizaino: Yes and guess how it recover? BoG made dollar unavailable for some importers so that they can look inward into local productions according to him ....All this happened under two weeks.
Again dont embrass yourself; South Africa dont even manufacture cars; Ghana you should start assembling motor bikes first. Then try to assemble cars. It will be some years before you manufacture car. Leave Kanatraka nonsense.
Nissan established assembly plant this year - they havent assembled anything yet.
Installed capacity is just installed capacity
vaxx: you aren't an obtuse slowpoke that's need to be feed , just go and check online . Even though some of the cars company are operating less than their capacity for now.
For example , nissan is currently manufacturing navara truck .
Now do same with others company like sinotruck, Toyota etc.
Maybe. It plausible Nigeria has car production industry. Not the nonsense like Innosen. But I highly doubt. kenya at least has nascent car industry that even export to the region. Real cars. Not badged chinese crap by Innosen or Kantarka.
It goes without saying that almost all buses, truck, trailers in east africa are built in kenya.
They can't even build bodies for buses or trailer for trucks - leave alone assemble CKD or do FBU. Their car production industry is at infancy - most of them were launched last year or this year.
AfriqueDuZuid: So in simple terms you don't know how much cars are produced in Ghana annualy
If you don't know the was no way you will know the value of your automative sector,
Kenya produces more than 30,000 cars - mostly AVA(multi-brand assembler), ISUZU and Toyotas. Half - 15,000 are sold in kenya - again mostly commercial vehicles. Kenya export the rest to Uganda, TZ, and even India I think
vaxx: You should shut up , By car used , Ghanaian used more cars than you. Either is production or purchased . It is important to know Ghana used more cars than you. For the production , we are getting a head start . Giant cars company are opening assembly plant.. it is smarter of time .
Stop manufacturing number from your asses instead of your head
He says Ghana has miraclously recovered in two weeks
Ghana Cut to Default by S&P on Eurobond Payment Suspension Moratorium on foreign debt constitutes selective default: S&P Fitch says it’s the beginning of ‘sovereign default process’
We only disagree on how to compare growth rate I believe growth rate relates to the last year quarter - not the previous quarter. So if South Africa 3rd Q grew - 4% - it's against 3rd Q of 2021 - not 2nd Q of 2022.
For you - we therefore add quarter growth rate - to get annual growth. For me - we average quarter growth rate - we sum up their sum for each quarter.
jl115: yeah I'm not talking about the above but rather the fat that GDP is calculated quarterly
How can Nigeria with a straight face claim to have agricluture bigger than Brazil? And if you ask for any formal data - zero? Any export data of any product - zero?
How do they collect agri data - wield guestimates.
jl115: yeah sorry didn't read your post properly... My bad you were correct
I dont really waste much of time of NIgeria GDP since 2018. Their agriculture data is red herring. I dont believe in their GDP data.
If you ask me Nigeria real GDP is 200-250B.
You know Nigeria the economy is largely informal. Even for them to tell you how much maize they planted is guess work - where they go to flea market - and estimate.
jl115: it is calculated quarterly... Otherwise what Q3 data are we looking at when it was released by SA and Nigeria? .... Jeezez the ret@rdedness on this thread gets worse everyday.
But fine Nigeria has a higher GDP ppp and nominal than Kenya according to Rvp2018
You're trying from literally zero. one kenya car assembler - AVA - has like 40 brands . https://ava.co.ke/company/ The plant was inaugurated in 1975 and has an installed production capacity of 30,000 units per annum. It accounts for approximately 65 percent of all assembled vehicles in Kenya. To date, AVA has produced more than 150,000 vehicles.
I am in interested in the others...otherwise I have counted Kia, Toyata, Suzuki, VW, Sinotruk, (maybe Hyudai),Peugot, Renault and BMC? as having assembly plant in Ghana. Then Kantanka badging chinese cars.
Quick search - shows most are planning to set up assemblies or started in 2021 if at all.
There's Kia Toyota and suyuki Nissan VW Kantanka Sinotruk Hyundai is setting up Peugeot Renault BMC And others
Keep screaming if Ghana actually move ahead to ban secondhand cars import fully, you'll see an even greater explosion in production because the price at which Ghanaians buy second hand cars plus the import duties they pay on it is actually enough to buy brand new versions of those cars they import in most cases.
Yes but like Boer says it calculated quarterly - and finally added up.
