Nigeria manufacturing - they spent more than 8B dollars on steall mill - that has yet to produce one roll of steel. Ajaokuta mill - with all raw material they need within 60Kms radius ![]() https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2018/06/nigeria-steel-factory-open-40-years-180616102446497.html |
Kenya is second largest source of Remittance to many countries in East Africa after US. FDI or size of diaspora is nothing to celebrate. I am pretty sure we are now one source of REMITTANCE to your poor country. Nigerians in Kenya are busy sending your money. We are of course the major source of FDI to East Africa countries. theenchanter: |
They wear the brain drain as badge of honour. See our doctors are treating Americans. Jay254: |
I see you are taking refuge is India & China - which were both poor countries but now very PROGRESSIVE.China has moved many of it's poor to prosperity in one generation.India is also doing great...Nigeria just overtook it to have largest number of absolutely poor people (about 80 million of Nigeria). The Chinese used to arrive aboard good containers in US shores out of the same desperation sending Nigerians scampering all over the world including Kenya. Poor Nigeria are still arriving in leaky boats or body bags in Europe. Having a large diaspora consisting purely of ECONOMIC REFUGEES - when you're not in war like Syria or Somalis or some religious or political persecution - is indication that Nigerian economic long COLLAPSED. Just learn to face the truth. Trying to find refuge in history or romanticize economic refugees like you won't help you. Nigeria stats are cooked. I wish you could read backward where we've debunked it. You can also use your Bloomerg terminal to read about stories of MNCS that rushed to Nigeria only to find POVERTY/COLLAPSED INFRASTRUCTURE/KIDNAPPING. If you want to call that savvy then you're clearly high on drugs.nograv: |
Nigeria is so poor it has not been able to conduct census. Census is critical data - base data - for many things - and Nigeria apparently cannot find Naira to do the basic counting of it's people. Kenya poverty data is from 2016 household survey - I think next year (2019) when we do census - we will get more insight into the economy, poverty, etc. Jonraid: |
Sorry I distrust anything produced by Yemi Kale - you Statistician General. You shows me production or manufacturing data from MNCS. You have Unilver Nigeria, Nestle, and the likes. Dangote is believable. theenchanter: |
Those are figures that have put lots of companies in big trouble. Now explain to me why less than 40 VW cars were bought in the whole of Nigeria last year despite VW investing in a productiion plant there. Less than 40 Nigerians can afford to buy 15-20K dollar car? nograv: |
If the basis is your national stats ; then the list is not worthy it. If it's VW producing & selling less than 40 cars in 2017 - kindly share ![]() theenchanter: |
WB/IMF/CIA/ name them - DO NOT produce national accounts - that is done for Nigeria by your crooked Stat Office Yemi Kale . For a long time Nigeria had not re-based - but WB/IMF could not just manufacture figures for Nigeria. When Nigeria finally re-based they took in the new figures. What IMF/WB massage is really the prices(USD/PPP) - but OFFICIAL NATIONAL ACCOUNTS - are accepted as given. Many MNCS have rushed to invest in Nigeria after buying the cooked Yemi Kale stew but have 1-2yrs lost their shirts - Nigeria style. The latest is VW - who sold about 30 units of VW in NIGERIA the whole of 2017 in a country of 200M with supposedly 500B dollar economy. Now you're all over. Nigeria are right now dying cross Mediterranean - they are all over the world - because their economy long collapsed. That is not sign of success but failure. Nearly all failed states have huge diaspora. In kenya during the 90s at height of Moi dictatorship - Kenyans move to abroad & certainly were more successfully than Nigerians despite their numbers. We fixed our country and the queues at US embassay long died. Regarding TECH - Nairobi(Kenya) lead with South Africa - Nigeria only this year "caught" up thanks to 40m dollars for Andela - in other years it either been South Africa or Kenya leading in tech funding. We shall see if Nigeria will repeat it this year - or we are back to the default the last 10yrs - Kenya & South Africa. nograv: |
Kikuyus1. That proffesors NAILS it The statistics according to him showed that, low figure for GDP per capital income of $1,154 and a high percent of the population that is poor, of which 54 per cent is said to be the population figure living below one dollar per day. |
You're taking their taking GDP at it highest(trusting them Nigeria to count anything) - if you use the real exchange rate - they have like 3 exchange rate - then those figures are still inflated by 30-40%. NairobiWalker: |
We again have dealt with those issues - use the search function. I have worked with World Bank and they accept OFFICIAL figures from any government... You're bringing the very basic things that were brought up in the first 100 pages and we debunked them completely. We have demonstrated with facts that Nigeria GDP is not only cooked - but over-cooked. Start with agriculture - shows us how your agriculture is BIGGER than Brazil. The agriculture that cannot even supply tomatos to Dangote's tomato industry . The one that long collapsed but is now bigger than Brazil some of the vodoo and juju nigerian are capable of are truly amazing. You real GDP is not even equal to Algeria's 150B dollars. I mean you've got 3 official exchange rates (gov one of 305 naira to dollar), Bank one (360 naira to dollar) plus black market rate for dollars (anything upto 450-500 naira for a dollar)- how do you even start the comparison. nograv: |
I just knew there was no where their slum cities can look like a modern city - likes of Nairobi.NairobiWalker: |
We know your slum cities. I know youre brought up in a society that has no scrupples or integrity - but please don't try pass pictures of LAGOS (PORTUGAL) - for your mega slum city (LAGOS Nigeria). jaycent: |
Your GDP figures are cooked - over-cooked. I think you should read this thread backward. The issues you're throwing around like cooked GDP figures of Nigeria are only believable by Nigerians - NOT anyone else. Our banking sector is definitely more mature than Nigeria. They are definitely more profitable & amongst the fastest growing in the world. And we didn't have to force our banks to merge like Nigeria did. We have dealt with these issues here.....so again spend time reading the about 2000 pages and then come-back and argue. nograv: |
The attached pic definitely is not lagos ![]() jaycent: |
Dangote cannot save Nigeria - single-handly - his attempt to fix Tomato paste appetite in Nigeria has failed. Now he has to go and farm tomatos.https://www.reuters.com/article/us-nigeria-farming/ghost-tomato-factory-showcase-for-nigerias-farming-problems-idUSKCN1BA0IZ |
Unless that wealth is stashed abroad - from the pictures we've seen - ther eis no wealth to talk about. Look at Angola - who recently got oil - and see real wealth. Wealth is not something you can hide in some "Forbes" List. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/980/41090245964_5fd681fa59_k.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/827/41765840432_136233acc3_k.jpg NigeriaIsDoomed: |
Most of what you write is false but lets assume they were true. How does one or rich/famous/nobel/diaspora/stars/sportman or etc nigerians or kenyan-asian help the average Nigerian or Kenyan? Those are OUTLIERS. I see this kind of foolishness and fallacy alot in Nigeria. Ohoo we have English Lit Nobel Laurate - so our English (which truly sucks) is good! Ohoo we have Dangote - the richest black man - so we are rich? Ohoo we have Ronaldo of Africa football - so our football is greatest ever? Ohoo we have 4 big banks - so our banking is good. When you engage your brains - you'll find what makes Kenya FAR better than Nigeria - is how average Kenya live is. 1) Average Kenyan teacher earn 3 times a Nigerian teacher. 2) Average Kenyan Police or Army earn 3 times a Nigerian. 3) Average Nigerian min salary is 50 dollars...kenya 120 dollars. 4) Average lifespan for a kenya is nearly 20yrs more than a Nigeria. 5) Average kenyan infrastructure (roads, rails, power, etc) are way better than Nigeria 6) Average kenyan towns are more liveable than any in Nigeria. 7) Average Kenyan speak better English than pidgkin speaking Nigerians. Average Kenyan enjoy better banking experience - 9) Average kenyan enjoy better services than Nigeria. You can go on and on - but this thread had demonstrated Nigeria is one huge zoo that depends entirely on Oil - while kenya is thriving democracy that will soon rival South Africa nograv: |
This was probably the only silver-linning Nigerian were looking for in their Buhari - recession plagued country. Their footballers are not fair. They ought to have produce their best game. Nigerian use to be a joy to watch in the 90s - now that generation of footballers seem long gone - and now we've got amalgamation of jokers. TayserMahiri: |
Yeah disappointed. Look like KQ need to send a plane to Russia to bring oga boys back to Lagos. TayserMahiri: |
For the record I will cheer Nigeria in world cup like i have done since 90s and hope they go past quarters like roger millas of cameroon.obviously african team are up against serious competition n corrupt fifa. |
Kenya Automotive Industry - Labh Singh Harnam Singh (LSHS) - Biggest Bus Builder in East Africa - in business since 1960s https://moovafrica.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Kenyan-fabricator-of-passenger-vehicle-bodies-Labh-Singh-Harnam-Singh-LSHS.jpg They built TZ BRT buses https://static.pulselive.co.ke/img/incoming/origs8429198/2350489368-w980-h640/DART.jpg https://nairobiwire.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/city2.jpg |
New Car sales in Nigera - less than 10,000 in 2017 From a combined sales of 50, 000 new vehicles (using 2014 statistics), sales plummeted to 14, 500 units in 2016 and by the Q3 of 2017, sales have glided downwards the curve to less than 10, 000 units, the worst result in five years.” Read more at: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/01/hope-vehicle-dealerships-manufacturers-nigeria/ |
Minna - is that desolate place that I read about - heard there are huge fallow land. How about you plant some corn there? jaycent: |
Effect of OVER-COOKED GDP. VW expect more sales in Rwanda than Nigeria . Again this example of MNC who get duped by Nigerian Stats con-masters(500B dollars 200M people Giant Economy Biggest in Africa ) - invested lots of money in 2014/2015 to establish Assembly Plant in Nigeria - only to manage to sell less than 40 units in 2017!! . If only they had read this thread where we shred Nigeria GDP to smithereens it really is - they would have saved themselves the trouble & huge losses - and invested in Ghana or even Benin Typical Naija con story - VW ends ups without a shirt - less than 40 cars after investing in production plant.https://nairametrics.com/vw-anticipates-recovery-in-nigerian-sales/ For its Nigerian market, the company expects to assemble about a 100 cars this year. Volkswagen sold just 40 units last year. Automobile sales took a sharp hit in the last two years due to the recession and depreciation of the Naira which led to a sharp increase in cost prices of cars, especially brand new. |
Here is VW Kenya - that set up shop in 2016 - last year sold definitely more cars than "less" than 40 - Nigeria plant (established earlier in 2014/205). VW Kenya is now producing two models - sales around 300 units. This year they expect to double the sales. https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/image/view/-/4261880/medRes/1857622/-/maxw/960/-/l11s7a/-/vivo.jpg |
Really - last year Nigeria VW - sold ONLY "less" than 40 units . I mean the entire Nigerian 200M people in 500B dollar economy cannot buy 40 UNITS of VW in 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Volkswagen AG expects a rebound in vehicle sales in Nigeria as the economy recovers, the head of the company’s South African operations said. Sales in the West African nation dropped to less than 40 units last year, according to the company. https://newtelegraphonline.com/2018/05/volkswagen-forecasts-nigeria-automobile-market-rebound/ obaaderemi: |
Ghana is a more like kenya. A very progressive democratic nation. Nigerians & Cameroonians at least in Kenya are the usual - scammers, drug peddlers & fraudsters. |
Does sounds like you got good value for money for spending all you money on those stadias. That is like 1 big event per decade. Kenya has hosted many events - in many sports (not just football) - last year we hosted World IAAF Junior Althetics - nelxxy: |
Awesome. I hope they immediately commence phase 2 & phase 3 and get Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone off ground. South Coast will soon see lots of development. TayserMahiri: |
How many times do a country get to host African cup of Nation or World cup. These are vanity projects. Grandiose stadiums that never get utilized. I am glad Kenya gov has refused to spend hard earned money on such projects. As far as stadium goes...Nairobi has lot of stadium for different sports...mainly small stadias...and it should remain that why. What we need are those community stadium & parks. Mombasa has recently build 3 - with artificial grass(turf). Mombasa - Bomu stadium https://i.ytimg.com/vi/nEc1kvBTfaE/hqdefault.jpg theenchanter: |
