Which little ones apart from Nigeria petty traders in Ghana. They should be kicked out because few countries allow petty traders to come to their countries. 5 million petty traders in Ghana. I have seen some in DRC. I met two Igbos in Mombasa 5yrs ago...they were looking to set up spare part shops..I dont know if they managed smiley

Otherwise, Dangote, Globalcom branch in Ghana, the 10 banks - end of story.

mhkent:
Lol, what's this rip guy feeling like, if we start listing these tiny businesses you are bragging about here, do you think this thread would contain us grin grin. Never knew Kenyans can brag like this with their oversized coats.

Chandaria is not only very brilliant, rich but also the humblest man you'll ever meet who has donated alot including huge part of UON plaza. He use to come to our school at UON whenever we invited him for talks.

Dr. Manilal Chandaria is the Chairman and CEO of Comcraft Group, a business conglomerate that oversees operations in over 40 countries throughout the world. Hailed as one of Kenya’s leading industrialists, Dr Chandaria is a respected known for his extensive charitable work and contributions to the community.Passionate about youth and education, he has created the Chandaria Foundation which has endowed Chandaria School of Business at USIU, and Chandaria Business Innovation and Incubation Centre at Kenyatta University to help students nurture their skills and knowledge. Mr Chandaria was recognized by the Kenyan government with the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear and granted the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth in 2003 in recognition for his community work and promotion of Kenyan-British interests.

True icon of real entrepreneurship - not Dangote enslaving Nigeria using gov.

Chandaria never meet gov officials for his steel, aluminimum and now many more areas - he sets up his factory - play fair - and soon dominate based on quality of services.

He has build business incubation centers at many kenya universities now.

Nigerians have a long way to go. If their best businessmen are petty Igbo traders smiley smiley then they have LOOOOOOOOOng way to go. Kenya boast very voracious Kikuyus, Somalis and Indians merchants ....but generally kenya business are likely to mature up to large corporation with operation in 10 countries.

Igbo business remain petty until it's inherited by another petty kin.

And the reason is simple. EDUCATION.

You cannot run complex business with Igbo type apprentership

Kenya-Indians go to Harvard, Yale and come back - turn around their family fortunes - the rest of kenya have learnt from them - educate you kids to the best possible.

The Ivy league kids come and make their small business regional empires.

Now Nigeria idea of business - skip school and come to my shop - I teach you how to sell Jollof rice or car spare parts. That man will never graduate into making his own spare parts - and cars - because of his very limited education.

Majority of kenya business that have gone far are run by very intelligent and educated folks most with IVY league education.

Manu Chandaria found his grandfather business moulding cooking utensil in Mombasa - with his world class education - he turned Comcraft into Africa most successfully industrial congolemerate with operation in 50 africa countries, in most of Asia, Europe and America. Dangote is piece of chicken shiet to Comcraft. They just wont list it because they dont have to....their wealth remain in the family

Almost every roof or cooking utensil in Africa has been made by Manu Chandaria ComCraft.

Bidco shah - also turned around their father soap making little thing - and has send Uniliver out of most of Africa - running 40 brands in 19 countries.

Take your kids to best school or if not hunt for best talent - let them come and run your small business.

Ndegwa family is another conglomerate - let exclude the Mois and Kenyattas - who unlike the stupid Nigerian politician - run very extensive business operations. Not just stashing money abroad.

The Ndegwas are bloody billionaires

Philip Ndegwa and his sons , James and Andrew Ndegwa,
The Ndegwa sons, James and Andrew Ndegwa, split half of their family’s 25 percent stake in NIC Bank —where they’re the majority shareholders — worth Sh5 billion. Their father, Philip Ndegwa (who has been featured here before) created one of Kenya’s single largest business empires of which the over Sh2 billion the sons split is one reason they will croon their eternal financial Hosannas.

Philip Ndegwa: He minted one of Kenya’s most secured fortunes via First Chartered Securities, an indigenous investment outfit founded in 1974 with some 20 civil servants and business moguls as shareholders. Ndegwa’s acquisition vehicle bagged the Insurance Company of East Africa (now ICEA Lion with a 100 percent shareholding to date), before forays in re-insurance, banking, agriculture, logistics, and real estate.

Controlling stake in NIC Bank (whose 20 percent stake the family bought from Barclays in the 1990s) and Ambank, three tea estates and tea processing factories including the world renowned Karirana Estates bought in 1986 after acquisition of MacKenzie Kenya Ltd, milling and beverage manufacturing, the Riverside Park in Westlands where its managed by Knight Frank Kenya with First Chartered Securities as partners.

The property portfolio was worth $100 million (Sh9 billion by 1999) — through its insurance arm, alone! Before selling its interests in Inchcape Shipping (including a ‘garage’ for ships), the Ndegwas operated Africa’s largest dry shipping dock between Cairo and Cape Town!

The alumnus of Alliance High, Makerere (economics) and Harvard was government advisor on economics and planning on his way to being the second governor of the Central Bank in 1982. The chair of KCB and the National Bank of Kenya, KQ (whose privatization he steered), KRA, Society for International Development Kenya Chapter was also an international economic expert with the UN and assistant director of UNEP. The father of James and Andrew Ndegwa died in January 7, 1996. He was buried in a private ceremony.

Kenya Somali - Amina Mohammed Hersi - basically runs lots of things in Kampala Uganda and has sugar factory in Uganda north.

The village girl who changed Kampala''s urban lifestyle
Growing up as a young Muslim Somali immigrant girl in the small town of Bungoma, Kenya, we were not allowed to be seen or heard. We were not supposed to go ...

This month, Moghe has been named ‘African Businesswoman of the Year’ by The New Economy, a reputable London-based quarterly business magazine for “helping turn around several multi-million dollar projects that have dramatically changed the face of Kampala… during a particularly hard time for the global economy following the financial crisis.”

The MD of Kadhar Investments, Amina is behind the imposing Laburnum Courts luxury apartments in Nakasero, Oasis Mall and Kingstone Hardware Store, a top hardware distributorships in Kampala.

Moghe is also currently setting up a sugar plantation and factory in northern Uganda. She apparently “employs over 6,000 people, mainly women, and ensures that they play an integral part in management, as well as actively supporting girls’ schools in and around the city.”

After BUA, Dangote and Globalcom - and few banks - that pretty much your business community - then below them are petty informal traders. Kenya has very extensive business men owning things across the region. It's not just Indians. The kenya-indian are like West African lebanese - born and bred here. But even forget about them...I can give you hundrends black owned companies doing great in the region.

Kenya is not Nigeria backwater.

Hass Petroleum - Kenya somalis - check how many countries

Behind Dangote there is BUA, Glomobile and many more, not to talk of the banks which have bought a couple of your banks. Indians are not as important here as they are in little India. Remind me of the name of your richest businessman again. grin

Kenyans are only African or black people to reliably win at highest level in sporting events. If you remove kenyans - then dark continent of Africa becomes very grim in sports. Ghana is number 61 in Fifa ranking and it showed. South Africa maybe would have done better...Ghana went there and leaked at least two goals every game smiley. They were worse than even Qatar or Saudi Arabia.

Behind Dangote - is Indians; So all your biggest company Dangote cement, sugar, oil, fertilizers; are managed and run by Indians. Dangote daughters and sons just run the accounts and the foundations.

There many black kenya business men whose business have expanded -example no is Humphrey Kariuki - with many business in downstream oil (dalbit - run petrol operations in 10 countries), power stations in Uganda (24MW), Zambia (105Mw) and Mozambique (250MW).

There are way too many black kenyans doing great stuff in the region. Unlike the lazy and indolent South Africans - or the criminal minded Nigerian - Kenyans are hardworking and resourcefull go-getters who do their things with minimal noise.

obaaderemi:
Name the biggest companies in Nigeria, none belongs to an Indian. Yet we have more Indians in Nigeria than Kenya. They dominate your manufacturing, retail, etc. They're even the richest people in Kenya. grin

The bulk of dangotes workers are Nigerians, not Indians. Indians do not only dominate your industries, you even tout them as your success story. You can't talk about Kenyan businesses outside Kenya without pointing at the Indians. They've colonized not only your land but your minds.
PoliticsRe: Kenyans Are Far Behind Nigerians In Every Aspect – Fani-Kayode by rvp2018: 8:38am On Dec 03, 2022
30yrs is long time not to make adjustment. The reality the black SA is not working on their weakness - they remain lazy, indolent and un-
educated.

It's in Nigeria where Indians dominate - not Kenya. Your entire manufacturing and even retail is held together by a million indians. Kenya has about 50K indians - and their dominance only exist in manufacturing - and that too is declining very fast.

Dangote alone annually ship in what maybe 30,000 indians - and you still allow him lots of state protectionism - so he can hire more indians.

Then Nigeria about 30,000 travel to India for medical and educational purposes..

You're more colonized by India than Kenya ever was.

obaaderemi:
It's not the same thing. You didn't suffer apartheid. Men were separated from their families and many children and women were sent to "homelands". It was terrible. The whole thing crumbled only in 1990. Most of the blacks are just coming to terms with the new status quo.

But what is the excuse for Indians dominating you in business in Kenya?
PoliticsRe: Kenyans Are Far Behind Nigerians In Every Aspect – Fani-Kayode by rvp2018: 8:35am On Dec 03, 2022
South Africa is generally ahead of kenya but the gap is closing pretty fast. 10yrs ago the gap was 10 times big; now it's merely 3 times; another decade; there wont be any gap. Unless the majority blacks wake up - South Africa is stuck.
jl115:
So you are saying Kenyan blacks can't compete with South African blacks or whites grin grin grin..... We've heard it here first folks... Rvp admits Kenyans are below all SAns... grin

Yes their are transformation targets which the government would ideally want the national team to be like, however they cannot be inforced since international bodies will ban SA if they made qoutas mandatory hence the teams have always been chosen on merit..... Except for Temba Bavuma...

No!! Kenyans have different economic and sporting enviroment from South Africa or Namibia.
You cannot measure Kenyans by Black South African standards. That racism.
You measure them by white South African standards.
They are born and live in the same country like a Boer and should attain the same standards that obtains in RSA.
Not in kenya. What is possible in Kenya is different - we dont for once have gazillions of minerals.
Kenya kid should equally compete with any kenyan of any race first - before we compete with South Africa.

It like us telling ethnic Somalis that they are okay despite the discrimination & marginalization they undergo because look fellow Somalis in Somalia have an even worse deal. Or turkanas in kenya are better than those in South sudan.

And please dont lie

By the latest transformation targets, on average about 6 players of color, including 2 black African cricketers should be in the playing XI. Not only that, but the transformation target is also implemented all throughout South Africa's cricketing system, from age-level groups to senior internationals.

The South African government and the SARU have an agreement that 50 per cent of the Springboks team at the 2019 World Cup should be black.

jl115:
Our Rugby team is chosen on merit.... You don't win a world Cup with qoutas...

As for the rest, well black SAns earn twice as much as you and the SAn Black Middle class is several times larger than yours so yeah....take away us Whities you feel so inferior to then you still miles behind SA in everything...... An all black springbok side would put 150 on the best Kenyan rugby side
PoliticsRe: Kenyans Are Far Behind Nigerians In Every Aspect – Fani-Kayode by rvp2018: 8:22pm On Dec 02, 2022
Yes that was point. The xhosa weak khoisan was demeaning kenya which has really tried - and equating it with Uganda - while their gov has to force the Boers to include black players in the team - force them to hire black people - name it. In fact the black players are mostly affirmative pick - they won't make the cut it if Boer had his way.

The Boer here at least acknowledge the great strides kenya indigenous rugby has done.

Shma2022:
I am not anti-diversity! I like the intermingling. However, that was not my point. Here is my point; SA is good in sports, yes. Don't come demeaning other Nations based on your performance. Especially if you're a lazy Khoisan like you.
PoliticsRe: Kenyans Are Far Behind Nigerians In Every Aspect – Fani-Kayode by rvp2018: 8:08pm On Dec 02, 2022
In every sector indigenous black Kenyans have worked their way up to compete with formerly privileged Asians and Whites; I am doubtful the Azian here is making any progress down in South Africa.

And I think that elephant in room when you look at South Africa - for how much longer will the boer dominate the slum dweller here?

We cannot just sweep everything under the rug - elephant in room in South Africa rugby is the boer continued dominance.

In the apartheid era, rugby was racially segregated with blacks barred from representing the Springboks.

I suggest they should even change the team name from Springboks to something Shaka Zulu Boys.

From kenyan forum - African teams have to work on their mindset - there is no dearth of talent

excerpts

Africans are a waste of space in this tournament. There was a time I would be excited thinking they might pull off something. The only African team I am looking out for is France cheesy .

-->
The brainwashing at work . Senegal just didnt have a finisher . Then it was clear from word go they were playing a Counteroffensive game.
No matter what we should support our African teams . Its my hope Senegal advances they have the potential. Unfortunately Mane was injured but still they have a good team.
-->
Mane would have made no difference. I have seen hugely talented African teams fall to otherwise untalented teams one too many times to be bothered. I would love to be pleasantly surprised, but I'd rather not go through the agony of *kukaza mkundu* for a group of guys that just don't share the same passion and interest to bother showing up.
-->
You see having lived and travelled in different capitals of this world , I ve interacted with lots of Africans who live in Western world and feel they are locals there and look down upon fellow Africans . Termie you are one of them . This has become evident by your blind support of Western Nations and NATO in the Ukrainian cities.

Senagal just like Spain in 2010 Worldcup made some tactical blunders hope they will learn from it. We need to rally our African teams this time around our target should be Semi Finals . Will be here , cos I have the final ticket. Unlike in Russia 4 years ago when I sold my Semi Final ticket when Russia lost penalties against Croatia , Mimi sibanduki……

-->
If you are dumb enough to hop on a train that the players themselves won’t, be my guest. Senegal et al are hugely talented and a waste of space. I’ll pick Laos in a game against them, because Laos would show up.
-->

Senegal's game yesterday was a perfect example of how nyeuthi gets distracted, after playing well for 90% of the game they lost concentration I could tell very early in the game senegal would concede last minutes, all african nyeuthi team have this weakness in mind, But for some reason Senegalese are the worst. I think its baafrica gene.

They start celebrating or feeling relieved early and just start to mail it in. In early 2000s, I followed Senegal's exploits all the way to quarter finals with baited breath. In that last game it was obvious they had been celebrating all of the previous night. Turkey which I thought should be no match, made quick work of them. I learned my lesson with humility.

Thats true with baafrica
But if Kalenjins knew how to play football or team sports they would be unbeatable they really have a strong will power to be able to run for marathons and stuff the mind is key.

South Korea sleepwalking into round of 16 beating Portugal 2-1. Uruguay desperately trying to max goals against Ghana(last in the group). Like mentioned, Africans are brimming with talent, but total waste of space.
