It's more cultural and apt for enviroment - it's not cold like cement - I guess you draw the cultural line in clothing? Just40: |

Maybe if you spend more time on serious stuff 1) you wont have sold millions for clothes 2) you wont be running off generators. What is in a piece of clothing? We are discussing serious stuff 1) 2-3B dollar investment on Ethiopia virgin telcom sector 2) Possibility of opening up of their financial sector. Fourpockets: |
There are lots of controls to ensure we got the census right including household surveys way before the census; we dont want a Nigeria where everyone inflate their figures to get more federal allocations. Just40: |
Kenya is starting to make great sides in fight against graft. Asset recovery authority has managed to seize many illicit proceeds And the judiciary is finally handing huge sentence - this guy will pay 1B kshs fine or 67 years in jail

When you claim there are 60million kenyans - after we spent 200M dollars counting only 47.5m - then you can only be a mad cow. Just40: |

If you count backwater filling stations - you will get higher number. Definitely kenya consume more fuel than Ghana. Last I checked Kenya was doing 6.5 billion litres..Ghana about 5 billion...despite using a lot of it to generate electricity. I can only imagine what goes on in the Zoo where everyone runs a generator. Just40: |
How is Feb 2022 old news. NNP has never made profit in its existence. They recently cooked books but cant remit any dividend. Repairing old things - is part of expenses - you can't declare profit with leaking pipes. Fix the pipes first. That is why to this day NNPC the biggest Nigeria company has never paid dividend to it's owner - Nigeria gov and people - in history. samorobo: |
Kenya is not a Nigeria zoo. DSTV Kenya is owned 40% by Kenya gov through KBC. GoTV like any other foreign company had to sell 30% shareholding to kenyan to operate. MultiChoice Kenya is jointly owned by Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) and MultiChoice International with a shareholding of 40 percent and 60 percent respective And there are kenya paytvs - Zuku/Star- many others. Massmart failed everywhere including Nigeria. Kenya retail is firing in all cylinders. Nigeria is still informal market. South Africa failures are their own - Carrefour (French retailer) - came to kenya in 2016 - and are now making serious profits. Retail chain Carrefour Kenya's sales surged 25.8 percent to Sh32. 9 billion (one billion Emirati dirham) last year as it opened more branches and attracted more customers to its stores concentrated in Nairobi.Feb 28, 2022 obaaderemi: |
Yet another south africa company retreat from Africa - minus their shirt. “Massmart initiated a process over a 12-month period to investigate... the opportunity to sell our East and West African stores to local investors. Unfortunately, this initiative did not deliver a meaningful outcome,” the company said. Massmart chief executive Mitchell Slape last year said the chain had begun a formal sales process to divest five Game stores in Nigeria, four in Ghana, three in Kenya, one in Uganda, and one in Tanzania. https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/bd/corporate/companies/south-african-retailer-fails-to-sell-game-stores-opts-to-close-3974166 |
NNPC-It has never made profit for 45yrs - and has never paid dividend. Compare oranges with oranges. Kenya SOES in oil industry are Kenya Pipeline,National Oil of kenya and KPRL (Kenya Oil refineries) - Kenya Pipeline almost annually makes 100M dollars in profit - and has therefore earned Kenya gov billions. And has never made a loss. How do you make loss selling petrol or gas![]() Kenya Pipeline - manages the downstream finished oil product pipeline from Mombasa to Nairobi, Kisumu, Eldoret and Nakuru KPC Managing Director Macharia Irungu said over time, the company had provided a good return on investments to its shareholder. "We have grown to be one of the largest parastatal in Kenya. During the last eight years, we have generated over Sh80 billion in profits before tax and paid over Sh 50 billion in taxes to the government during the period,"Irungu said. samorobo: |
When your dead airline start kissing the sky again - not biting the dust - please come and shake this place. I hear you've called on Ethiopeans to help you. It's hopeless mission samorobo:

How is Nigeria Airways? Still biting dust? KQ will be back to profitability soon - 2024. samorobo:

Stop this implusive urge to call everything largest in Africa. OANDO is unknown. In downstream business Nigeria is crap. You cannot beat even Kenya there. Kenya alone - There are over 1,800 service stations in Kenya operated by more than 70 registered oil marketing companies that are involved in the supply. Example 1: Equity Group 2nd biggest in Kenya, Uganda, DRC, Rwanda - and also top 10 in Tanzania, South Sudan and with eye on Ethiopia. Equity Group is the largest bank in the region with assets of USD 12 billion. It is also the largest bank in terms of deposits, with a market capitalisation of USD 2 billion and a customer base of over 15 million. The group has 337 branches, 56,772 agents, 32,269 merchants, 697 ATMs and has widely adopted digital banking channels. The Banker's Top 1,000 World Banks 2021 ranked Equity Bank 761 in its global ranking, position 39 globally on return on assets, position 71 on return on capital, and position 149 on soundness (Capital Assets to Assets ratio). The Banker's Top 100 African Banks 2020 ranked the Bank 7th among the top 10 banks in Africa, 5th for strength, 9th for growth performance, 8th for return on risk and 6th for profitability and leverage category. In the same year, Moody's gave the Bank an overall rating of B2 with a negative outlook, identical to the Kenyan government's sovereign rating, due to the Bank's strong brand recognition, strong liquidity buffers and resilient funding profile, well-established national franchise, and strong adoption of digital and alternative distribution channels AfriqueDuZuid: |
Good move. I would keep shareholding at 51% for gov. Shaytun: |
Excellent. Small well sized and well built. Just40: |
What is wrong with cows crossing the road. Tell me exactly why that suspension bridge was built? To straighten the road? Why not just meander for a kilometer - along the shoreline - and save for some money. I was reading on KLM airline newspaper that there is only one ONCOLOGIST for children cancer in 60M people Tanzania. Why not save some money and go to Cuba - and get at least 100 children oncologists - one for every district. Kazikazi: |
The famous bridge to nowhere. Your LOW IQ country is just amazing. Kazikazi: |
See what Almajiri school of beggars did to you. Urgent issue is for Buhari to remove all tarrifs and customs for Africa products just as Kenya does the same. And of course try to keep Naira fairly stable and freely exchanging. WB says if he does this 100M african will be lifted out of poverty with 200B dollars worth of trade. That is huge potential for intra-africa trade. Otherwise for now - we have to go to Europe or Asia or US - for things available in Africa. Lame excuse is one currency and other such nonsense. theenchanter: |
Africa banks are expanding. Soon enough kenya banks will be in West Africa - and a Kenya trade can have his Cedis or dollar account deposited in Equty Bank branch of Accra - transferred same day to Kenya - and so will Ghana businessman with Access or UBA bank account in Nairobi. Single currency is never an issue. China does trillion dollars worth of trade in USD. Tarrifs, customs, and Logistic are urgent issues. Single currency we dont need it anytime soon. theenchanter: |
See - you dont make any sense. Why would the exchange rate differential be that much. And like I told you - traders will have no problem accepting CEDIS (if it become stable) - and KSH. Removing tarrifs alone btw Kenya and Ghana - allowing free trade - will reduce the cost of trade by 40-50%. To enter England - kenya tea have to meet very high standards - then snake it way back to Ghana as Unilver Lipton tea (never mind England cultivate zero tea) - after all that changing hands - they become very expensive. For cocoa it the same - Swiss dont farm any cocoa - but Kenyans will import Chocolate from there. If Ghana want milk - they go to Europe - when Kenya is awash with milk. If we export directly to Ghana with free trade - it become very cheap for Ghana and very profitable for kenya - its a win- win - currency exchange loss will be minimal - margins of buy/selling dollars that bankers will keep. Once trade blossom - and countries keep their currencies fairly stable - intra-africa exchange rate develop - you dont need dollars - you just need to know Kshs to Cedis or Naira rate. theenchanter: |
You never make any sense ever. What is big deal with currency. If we trade in USD - isnt that trade important. COMESA is 19th countries and trade flourish there. What is important is trade...you dont go to England to buy Kenya tea - sending USD to England - you send the USD to Kenya. We also dont go to Switzerland to buy Chocolate or cocoa - we buy it from Ghana - sending USD to Ghana. If we dont like KShs and Cedis. TRADE is the core - the medium of exchange is secondary. theenchanter: |
Cooked books - remitted Zero.Zero to federal gov of Nigeria. This is a month ago.. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has failed to make remittances into the federation account for seven straight months in 2022. This is despite a gross revenue of over N2.8 trillion from crude oil, and gas sales within the period. This revelation was obtained from NNPC’s presentation to The Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) for July 2022. NNPC was expected to pay into the federation N1.23 trillion, which will then be distributed to the three tiers of government. obaaderemi: |
Lame excuse. If you dont like CEDIS you can always ask for dollars or gold. We have COMESA, EAC and others trading. You can change CEDIS to Kshs in airport of Ghana or Kenya as trade improves...in meantime we can take USD or gold. These are auxilary issues. theenchanter: |
KQ on it's deathbed remain the 2nd most successfully national airline in SSA - with long history of profitability = in a sector that is very brutal- unlike NNP who have 45yr long history of making losses - in a sector - of oil n gas - that is ver lucrative. obaaderemi: |
With Naira collapsing against the dollar - maybe KCB will accept groundnuts for payment. I am expecting both Equity and KCB to soon eclispe all Nigerian banks Shaytun: |
Yes especially because CEDIS is like South Sudanase pound. By time you're in back - it would have depreciated by a lot. Otherwise it will be south sudan expereince - hell on earth for business. gallivant: |
