How many private unis do you have?

Yes RSA is down and out - in Africa their corporation are running back home - and their gov is now very incompetent. Egypt has already overtaken it economic wise - and I dont see how RSA will ever catch up. There are just too many things wrong with RSA.

Look at this fool, I told you to post the link, I didn't tell you to quote it, just post the link, we will all see it ourselves.
And yes Denel is your only relevant defense industry, you have none again, the rest are dead just like SA.

You were embarrassingly ignored by the Mozambique, and they invited a country in East Africa, Rwanda to help them to fight terrorists in their country, that shows SA no longer command the influences it had before.
It was later the Southern Africa states started deploying it militaries, after Rwanda and Mozambique has recaptured most of the strong holds of the terrorists group.

You are saying Egypt don't have power projections, but they have been carrying airstrikes in Libya, SA could not even deploy adequate air power to Mozambique, not even your outdated gripens where deployed, only two helicopters were sent.
Give it a few years for Egypt to finish their world class infrastructures they are building, then let see if you catch them in a century.

Yes our education need serious fixing; and CBC is good start; we will get the usual whinners; like we did in 2003 when free primary education was re-started; people complained for 2yrs about 150 kids in a class; but eventually the issues was sorted.

Teething problems should not stop us from trying new ideas. Our current system is great - kenya has very good education for it's level of economy - but to we have to look at 20yrs from now. The kids undergoing CBC will join the labour market then.

kikuyu1:
As we change our 4 decade old 8-4-4 system to the CBC,Competence Based Curriculum, there are the usual whines and bleats from those who'd have us all remain stagnant, iow in our comfort zone. Already our education system is qualitatively tops with Algeria but more needs to be done to keep us there. The CBC will reduce fixation on exams allowing better practical skills development and problem solving abilities.

Precisely. Africa young population came to it's rescue. Europe and US will be better of economically after removing lots of pensioners.
mtisTheQubit:
According to preventepidemics.org which track covid whorldwide death patterns over time show a consistently low level of per capita deaths in Africa. This in in stark contrast with Europe which had high death rates in April, North America which has had high deaths rates.Overtime they have learned that older age is a significant risk factor for severe illness and death from COVID-19. Estimates of the case fatality ratio (proportion of confirmed cases that die) and infection fatality ratio (proportion of total infections, detected or undetected, that die) are about 20 times greater for those 60 years or older compared to those less than 60. In the United States, eight out of 10 COVID-19 deaths have been in adults 65 and older. Across the world, there are large differences in the age structure of countries and regions. Consequently, we should expect that areas with older populations would have higher rates of deaths among COVID-19 cases.

PoliticsRe: Kenyans Are Far Behind Nigerians In Every Aspect – Fani-Kayode by rvp20182: 3:34pm On Sep 22, 2021
I think aged western or developed population means the model wont be the same - but definitely COVID has led to many deaths - including in kenya. There is a lot of hidden data in Africa but it's also not as serious as predicted because of young vibrant hardy disease tolerant population.

When it come to US or Europe - you're dealing with very many elderly people with comorbidities.

jl115:
I've said it multiple times and I'll say it again.... Covid only has a 1% fatality rate, around 50% of people don't even know they have/had covid.... The natural deaths in SA is barely any different than pre covid.... Conclusion: if you don't conduct tests you'll not know if the death was covid related or not.

How is Nigeria managing when debt servicing ration already passed 100 percent. Kenya is long way to get there. We are still spending money on capital projects, supporting huge social investment in free education to all levels, and name it.

Nigeria long gave up on even the basic - like providing security to Nigerians.

The report says all FG's salaries, overhead were financed with loans, CBN support. Debt servicing obligations gulped 97 percent of the Nigerian government's total revenue in 2020, a report has shown.Jul 11, 2021

Abohboy:
Kenya is considering using reserves from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to compensate for Chinese loans it repaid after the Treasury dropped an earlier request to defer debt payments.

The Treasury says it could use its additional allocation of IMF reserves in Special Drawing Rights (SDR) assets, which can be converted to government-backed money, as one of the options to plug the budget hole.

SDRs are the IMF’s unit of exchange based on sterling, dollars, euros, yen and yuan, and can be used to settle obligations like repayment of foreign public debt.

Director-general for public debt management office at the Treasury Haron Sirima said Kenya has an a raft of options including “use of additional SDR allocation by the IMF” to fill the cash hole left after Nairobi started to service loans from China in July.

Kenya had expected to extend a debt repayment moratorium from bilateral lenders, including China, which started in January 2021, by another six months to December 2021, saving it from making payments of nearly Sh50 billion to Beijing lenders.

Chinese lenders, especially Exim Bank, were uncomfortable with Kenya’s push for extension of the debt service suspension with rich nations, prompting delays in disbursements to projects funded by Chinese financiers.

This forced Nairobi to drop its push for the debt repayment holiday extension by China for fear of straining relations with Kenya’s biggest bilateral creditor.

Dr Sirima said the Treasury has other options, including seeking grants from development partners, changing the funding for “specific” capital projects to public–private partnership (PPP) and tapping the IMF reserves.

Kenya did not want to become another Nigeria or Ghana training graduates whose only hope of getting a job is to emigrate - abroad - where they end up with degree course that are unrecognizable. Under Kibaki regime - university enrollment expanded rapidly - until total enrollment of 600K - with many polythetic being converted into universities - and everyone joining universities. Universities were swimming in money, buying real estates and expanding even regionally to Rwanda, TZ and name it.

Going for technical course started acquiring a bad stigma of failure - while the economy was unable to generate formal jobs - for all those graduates - we ended up like Nigeria or India or now South Africa or Ghana - too many jobless graduates !

Meanwhile the economy was generating informal jobs - for plumbers, masons, capertners - and were being filled by untrained people. This is Africa dillema.

And we realized by 2013 - this needed to change - hence TIVET. In 2015 - kenya kids woke up to historic mass failure - as gov deliberately shocked the education systems. Universities have enrollment capacity of more than 200K - but annually they have to compete for 120K students now - annually.

Now we are on the right path - universities need to find a stable base - but definitely the focus for gov has shifted to TIVET

AND the results are starting to show.

Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across the country have put in place sufficient infrastructure and human resource to absorb the over 600,000 candidates who sat the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination, which was released last week.

The Training Institutions (TTIs) under the Ministry of Education in each constituency, has grown from 52 in 2013 to 233 in 2021. Out of the 233 TTI’s: 52 are fully operational; 140 have been built, equipped, staffed and operationalised (four of 13 them catering for TVET SNE candidates) and 41 are under construction.
PoliticsRe: Kenyans Are Far Behind Nigerians In Every Aspect – Fani-Kayode by rvp20182: 1:34pm On Sep 22, 2021
Kenya Gov made a deliberate move to discourage university education and focus on TIVET. We dont want a country of too many entitled white collar job seekers when the economy doesnt support it.
We started by reducing the number of eligble student joining universities - through mass exam failures- and all universities are bleeding - both public and private - because they are competing for very few students qualifying to join them. Private universities are not funded by the public - or IMF - if you will - and they are also bleeding.

Tivet is where all action is....from about 100K enrollment it's now gone to 400K...and we aim for 2 million.

Students in Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) in Kenya 2013-2019. As of 2019, Kenya counted 430.6 thousand students enrolled in Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET), nearly three times more than in 2013, when the initiative was established

Student enrollment has shot 600pc
https://www.kenyanews.go.ke/tvet-enrollment-shot-by-600pc/
The national government has invested massively in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector escalating students’ enrollment to these institutions by over 600 per cent since 2013.

The state has invested multi billions to equip the 238 TVET colleges in the country with modern facilities in terms of infrastructure and highly skilled trainers to improve the quality of education offered in TVET and bridge the country’s skills gap

Mwakima said since the beginning of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration in 2013 to date, the number of TVET institutions has shot up by over 450 per cent in a bid to enhance access, equity and quality of TVET education.
