Pia Farrenkopf, an American woman, died in 2009 in the back seat of her Jeep, which was parked in the garage of her home. Her body wasn't discovered for five years until 2014, largely because she had auto-pay set up for her bills. One of my brothers from the south sent this to me on WhatsApp. Now that our agitation have ended SARS, let us also brood over some very glaring facts. SARS existed nationwide. But the ones in the south were the bad eggs except we want to deceive ourselves. Over 95% of the SARS members in the south were Southerners. So we are talking about Southerners brutalizing and extorting Southerners. Once upon a day. I was riding around Ojodu-Berger in the car of a movie producer that I was working with. The police were at the foot of the Berger bridge doing 'stop and search'. They found "fake gun props" in the booth of the car and said we must come with them to Isheri police station to explain what the gun props were meant for. I was livid with rage that the producer carried those things in his booth without getting permits from the police which was the appropriate thing to do. But I said we will deal with that later. My first thought was how to handle these policemen first. Before we could explain, one of the policemen looked at me and said "I know this one. Na actor" I was relieved so I told him that we were going to Magodo-Isheri to shoot an armed robbery scene and that the gun props were meant for that purpose. He lectured us about how SARS would have shot us in our legs before asking for explanations. He said we should be thankful that it wasn't SARS that saw those props. I immediately noticed that he was Igbo from his name tag. So I quickly switched to Igbo language. Somehow he saw that my Igbo wasn't fluent so he asked me if I am "one of these Igbo guys who were born and raised in Lagos" I lied to him that my wife was Igbo and she is the one that was teaching me. He seemed impressed and pulled me to the side. Once we were away from the others, he told me that we should bring #100,000 to settle the matter because if it gets to the station we will be locked up. I relayed the message to the movie producer. That one started shouting at the top of voice and said they should take us to the station. Then he asked them if a certain woman was still their DPO. They told him that the woman had been transferred. Immediately his voice lost it's bass and he almost strated pleading. Apparently he was shouting because he knew the female ex DPO. So I pulled the Igbo officer to the side again and asked him to help me. He said firmly that if we cannot raise #50,000 we should forget it. I begged and begged but he remained adamant. Just then one of the policeman whose name tag showed that he was either middle belt or core north stepped to us and asked what is happening. The Igbo chap told him I am not serious and that I am not speaking well. The northern/middle belt guy asked me what I want done. I switched to Hausa language and told him that we don't have a dime to give them and that I need his intervention. Without uttering a word he went back to their van where they had kept the gun props which they has seized. He handed them to me and told me in Hausa language that next time we should ensure that we don't move around with those props without getting a police permit. Then he switched back to English and said: "You people are free to go" The Igbo officer was protesting but he got overulled by the northern guy who obviously was of higher rank. Now I admit that we were wrong to have moved around with gun props in a car without getting a cover letter from the authorities but I still wonder why the Igbo chap who had recognized me could not let us go without taking advantage of the situation. It took a northern guy who was probably seeing me for the first time to intervene simply because I spoke his language. That's why I say we should take a minute to reflect on what actually transpired. It is beyond SARS. The entire police force needs some cleansing. But the ones that call themselves Southerners should tell us why they prey on their fellow Southerners with impunity and reckless abandon. Within Edo state and on the Benin-Lagos expressway all the policemen who park passenger vehicles and ask all young men to come down so that they can search their phones and look for Yahoo boys to extort speak southern dialects. #fact It is a dog eat dog situation. Southerners draining the life out of Southerners. Let's think.

In the winter of 1984 a student from Science Secondary School Dawakin Tofa did the unthinkable, he scored 9 distinctions in his West African Senior School Certificate Exams. But such an achievement was so rare and unimaginable that the authorities at Lagos assumed he'd cheated. To prove it, a car was sent to pick up the unawares Sarki, straight to Dawakin Tofa where he was made to retake the whole 9 exams in 9 hours. He made that one 'B' in English Language an 'A'! Faced with humiliation, the Lagos authorities saved face by apologizing and instituting the National Merit Award making Sarki Abba its first recipient. He went on to become the first Professor of Urology and Clinical Pathology from Northern Nigeria. So the next time WAEC makes that announcement, remember we have Kano and Sarki Abba to thank for it!

Tomorrow Nigeria will be 60 years old. Here are reasons for sober reflection and adjustments by our leaders. 1. In 1960 Nigeria has only 2 universities. Today it has 40 federal universities, 40 state universities and 61 private universities. However its people have to run to Ghana, a country with only 9 universities to study. The reason is because the 141 universities in Nigeria are below international standard due to corruption, mismanagement and neglect. The country, according to UNICEF has 10.5 million children outside primary school. It means in 20 years, about 30% Nigerians will not be able to secure employment as security men, because the job will require basic literacy as qualification. This goes to say adding weight is not equal to good health. 2. Twenty years ago India has the largest number of pure scientists in the world but it was considered a poor country compared to China because those number of scientists did not transform India into net exporter of goods and services. It was until India changed its ways and started producing technicians like China that it began manufacturing goods and earned the respect of the world. Numbers matter but vision matters most. The Indians were not seeing the world as the Chinese. 3. Today we have 193,600kms federal highway. Out of that length, only 28,200 kms are paved in the whole 60 years of the country's existence. The paved highways are death traps killing hundreds of people daily. Meanwhile in 1960 Nigeria had 8,800km of paved federal highways in relatively good condition. The increase in the length without quality today does not translate to progress. Nigeria is considered the worst country among it's neighbors in terms of road infrastructure. Quality matters more than numbers. 4. In 1960 Nigeria had 118 mission hospitals, and 101 government hospitals. Today it has 22 Federal Medical Centers, 23 giant teaching hospitals, about 46,000 state owned hospitals/health centers and hundreds of thousands private hospitals, clinics and dispensaries. But Nigerians run to Ghana to treat skin infection and UK to treat ear infections! 5. In 1841 Britain and Wales had a population of 15 million people. However Great Britain virtually held the entire world by the jugular, colonising all and every important nation and defining their destiny. Dynamites come in small sizes. 6. Today US has a population of 325 million people but controls and sets standards for the world with a population of 8 billion. By contrast Nigeria has a population of 182m and military of 400,000 strength but is overwhelmed by a rag tag Boko Haram with a strength of 16,000 followers. 7. Nigeria has 91 million hectares of arable land of which it is able to cultivate only 42% of it using crude and simple tools. Industrial scale holding is nonexistent in Nigeria. Despite being able to produce large quantities of beans, sesame , cashew, cassava, cocoa beans, groundnuts, gum arabic , kolanut, maize (corn), melon , millet , palm kernels ,palm oil , plantains, rice , rubber , sorghum , soybeans , bananas and yam; Nigeria is not a net exporter of agricultural products and it imports food to feed its population. FOA report put Nigeria slightly ahead of Niger, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Burkina Fasso and Sierra Leone in food security. It's not how old you are but how well you are. It's not your numbers that matter but the quality.

Politics is a game of number.. 2023 is still our turn! we cant vote any candidate from any part of this country apart from north! We believe our Yoruba neighbors will support us to complete our tenure for fairness and unity. Nigeria can not survive Boko haram and shutting down of crude oil production in the Niger delta which will result to scarcity of petro and hardship (increase in price of good and transportation). God bless Nigeria
|
