Idowu116: Hello Nairalanders, there is a very confusing issue I would love to share here so your opinions are highly needed.
I work in a bank as a cleaner since last year April and I earn #26,000 per month. I have been working with the aim of starting a business (even if I don't have any business idea to run)or furthering my education because I stop at SS3 since 2017 when I graduated. Last week, my uncle called me that there is vacancy at a filling station in ibadan then from there I will continue schooling in a polythecnic of ibadan. He said I will be paid #15,000 per month an I will do part time at the poly.He said I shouldn't worry about accommodation and feeding. He also said I will be paying my school fees from my salary.
I haven't worked in a filling station before but I would love to change environment too. I don't want to leave this job and regret later and I don't know if I will do well in the filling station but I also want to further my education too.
I am confused here and I don't know what decision to take.So I came here to seek for a very candid advice on how to deal with the issue. Please your opinions are needed thank you Lalasticlala please help move to front page.Thank you You did not post your present location so we can compare it with Ibadan for which is better for you. Fuel station attendants do make money daily aside their salary. You can ask those that have worked in fuel station before. If you are the smart type with good numerical ability, go for the fuel station job. Thereafter you can apply to study in Ibadan poly. You can even apply to study in the Technical University, Ibadan. Tech Uni have a scholarship partnership with. Makinde's Government. Goodluck on your aspiration "Ise Logun Ise". |

Politics › Re: All Hail Amaechi, The Dan Amanar Daura by sageb: 9:14am On Feb 05, 2022 |
simplistical: ON Saturday, February 5, 2022, all roads will lead to Daura, President Muhammadu Buhari’s hometown, where the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, will be turbaned as the Dan Amanar Daura (trusted son of Daura) by the Emir, Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar. Coming in this political silly season, it is one chieftaincy title that is bound to attract a lot of attention in the days, weeks and months to come. Yet, I can say without any equivocation that this has absolutely nothing to do with politics. But saying so will not stop conspiracy theorists from going overboard with all manner of febrile conjectures. But knowing Amaechi well, he will not be fazed.
I am particularly awed by the title, Dan Amanar, which I am told by my Hausa friend means trusted son. Chibuike Amaechi is a proud Ikwerre man from Rivers State. In this era of heightened ethnic irredentism, fueled principally by Buhari’s exclusionist politics, it is ironic and at the same time fascinating that someone from the Niger Delta has been adopted as a son by the Daura Emirate.
But beyond the issue of adoption, claiming him as one of their own, is the significant issue of trust in a country where mistrust is a thriving industry. If Amaechi has been adopted as a trusted son, it then means that the people of Daura have faith in him – his reliability and uncanny loyalty to friendship. And that is exactly the Amaechi that I know – a reliable, good and honest Nigerian, whose integrity, strength of character, fidelity to agreed causes and ability to deliver on promises are unparalleled.
Sadly, these are virtues that are in very short supply in the country today and the reason we are plumbing the depths of misery and despondency. Amaechi is loyal to his friends and he is a bridge-builder. As a politician, the only art which he has refused to master is how to be politically correct. He is not given to equivocation even when what he will say will hurt him politically. So, being conferred with a title that robes him in the uncommon garb of trust is as deserving as it is apposite. Amaechi has been faithful to his friendship with President Buhari and the political alliance that made his presidency a reality after three failed attempts. He took the greatest political risk in that gambit. Had he failed, the collateral political damage would have been monumental for him.
But typical of him, Amaechi will never talk publicly about his enormous sacrifice even when those that made lesser contributions are shouting from rooftops and using that as a basis for laying claim to being the Khalifa – anointed successor. Not only did he play crucial role in Buhari’s emergence as the APC presidential candidate, he was the Director General of the Buhari Campaign Organisation in 2015 and 2019.
But beyond the role he played in ushering in the Buhari Presidency, what he has been able to do in the last six and half years as minister is even more significant. A statement from the Ministry of Transportation said he will be honoured with the traditional title in recognition of his contributions to the socio-economic development of the country, especially for his effort in bringing to life the rail sector that has been moribund for over three decades. Amaechi is the poster boy of the administration. His dedication to duty makes all the difference. His attention to details is incomparable.
The revolution he is orchestrating in the railway sector is remarkable. Because of his achievements as Minister of Transportation, particularly with the railway projects, THISDAY newspaper honoured him with the Minister of the Decade award in 2020. “President Muhammadu Buhari’s retention of Rotimi Amaechi as his Minister of Transportation after his re-election is a testament to his drive and commitment to give Nigerians a better travelling experience.
“He is superintending over the administration’s efforts to revive the railway system in the country. This has led to some projects such as the ongoing Lagos-Kano standard rail line and linking Nigeria’s eastern and northern corridors through the railway. Under his watch, the water transportation system is also receiving attention,” the newspaper wrote. Amaechi is an achiever and a man with great leadership credentials. He has the axiomatic Midas touch, an uncanny ability to excel in everything he does. He excelled as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and Governor for cumulative 16 years. As Speaker, he led the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria. As Governor, he was also the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum.
And at the national level, he is riding the storm, standing out, as it were, from the crowd. Ironically, he does not perceive himself in such light. He would rather share the accolades. “All the ministers are doing well,” he told me two years ago. “Credit for achievements rightly goes to the president not only because his attention is on infrastructure but everything we have achieved is his vision.” That is how humble he is.
But despite his humility in not taking personal credit for his achievements, his creativity stands him out. Amaechi is one Nigerian leader who thinks outside the box. His ability to explore ideas that are creative and unusual, ideas that are not limited or controlled by rules or tradition sets him apart. He is a quintessential promoter of the avant-garde, an iconoclastic public servant who has no qualms pushing the boundaries with every step he takes in public office. It is his ability to think outside the box that attracted a transportation university to Nigeria. At the groundbreaking of the Transportation University in Daura on December 2, 2019, Amaechi disclosed how he forced the Chinese construction firm, CCECC, to build the university. “I engaged the companies. The first engagement was when they were constructing Lagos-Ibadan. They were not so keen at spending their funds to build a university for Nigeria, until I refused to sign the contract for the Lagos-Ibadan railway.”
Amaechi only agreed to sign the Lagos-Ibadan railway contract after CCECC met three conditions. “The first thing is to take our children to China and train them by giving them a first degree in railway technology. The second is that, if we must sign the purchase of locomotives in China, they must build a factory where we can construct coaches, locomotives and wagons and today at Kajola that factory is being constructed. Finally, I insisted on the University of Transportation.”
That is ingenuity in the service of fatherland. Lesser mortals would have cornered the funds meant for those projects. Amaechi’s largeness of heart is part of his exceptionalism. But he is also humble and graceful. He is, perhaps, the biggest disciple of Buhari and rather than appropriate credit for any achievement, he wants it to go to the president because whatever he has done is by his directive. But unlike many Buharists, he has a firm grasp of the issues and is not delusionary.
He admits that hunger has not been banished from the land. Poverty is a reality. Unemployment is also real. But he insists the Buhari government has done well. “We are fixing roads, power, etc. Before we came, power was bad. We know we have not hit the actual result Nigerians are expecting but we have left where we were before,” he said. Amaechi sees himself as a Nigerian, in a country defined by ethnic and sundry primordial sentiments. That has created problems for him back home. But he doesn’t bother. Instead, he allows that worldview to define not only his person but his approach to governance and allocation of state values.
Any project in any part of Nigeria will serve Nigerians, he argues. His critics call him naïve. He demurs. “We like breaking this country into components. Why don’t we agree first of all that ours is one nation? Whatever services we provide between Lagos and Kano rail-line for instance, is because of the quantity of cargo to be moved,” he contends. In a country where nepotism is elevated to state craft, such disposition may be seen as too idealistic. But Nigeria needs leaders with holistic appreciation of what it needs to lift up the country. That is the import of the title that will be bestowed on Rotimi Amaechi in Daura on Saturday.
He is not only a trusted son of Daura, he is a self-sacrificing, conscientious and diligent public servant, a trusted son of Nigeria with ennobling worldview. Provincial leadership has dealt Nigeria a bad cut. It is high time we changed course and Amaechi fits the bill of transcendental leadership that Nigeria sorely needs. That is the message the people of Daura are sending to other Nigerians.

Celebrities › Re: Who Else Thought These Nollywood Couples Were Actually Together? by sageb: 11:20am On Feb 04, 2022 |
Zikok0mag: Nollywood has given us a lot of iconic pairings over the years, but some actors do their job so well on screen, we find it hard to separate play play from real life. Have you ever looked at a Nollywood pairing and felt deep down that they were an actual couple? We’ve been there too. Here’s a list of some old Nollywood couples that were so good, we thought they were married or dating in real life.
Stella Damasus and Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD)
These two were always married or about to be married in all their films. Look at the material: In When God Says Yes, they were a couple looking for a kidney for RMD; In Engagement Night, she slept with his best friend but they still somehow found their way back to each other; and let’s not forget the wild ass To Rise Again where RMD was Stella Damasus’ ghost baby daddy. It’s not our fault we thought they were together.
Rita Dominic and Jim Iyke
Rumour has it that these two were a thing at one point, but are we really surprised? With her big ass afros and his VPN-acquired Ameritish accent, Jim Iyke and Rita Dominic were the OG Bonnie and Clyde of old Nollywood. One minute they’re sipping cold juice by the beach, and the next thing you know, they’re arguing, with Rita in her thigh-high boots and Jim in his bandanas. We stan a chaotic couple.
Genevieve Nnaji and Ramsey Noah
First off, can we get into Genevieve’s tiara in this picture? Yes, sis, Disney princesses are shaking. Ramsey Noah and Genevieve were the couple to beat back in the day. They’ve dated and married each other onscreen so many times we’ve lost count. Power of Love, Butterfly, Honey, The Break-Up, Pain and Gain, Super Love or the one where she was a village Cinderella and he was the crown prince. These two had so much chemistry together, we were rooting for them to become a thing.
Ini Edo and Muna Obiekwe
Before Muna Obiekwe made the controversial Men in Love, he was one of Nollywood’s most-in-demand lover boys. While he shared the screen and his fictional heart with everyone from Genevieve Nnaji to Oge Okoye, it was his films with Ini Edo that had us screaming “God, when abeg?”. Once you saw Ini Edo in a campus setting with spaghetti straps and excess lipgloss, you immediately knew that Muna Obiekwe would pop up at some point. He fought Jim Iyke for her heart in The Cat and went against Stephanie Okereke and her cult group in Beautiful Faces. Can your man fight?
Genevieve and Emeka Ike
Back then, if Genevieve was not acting opposite Ramsey Noah, best believe she was serving melanated couple goals alongside Emeka Ike. He was her knight in shining armour in For Better for Worse and Pain and Gain, showed her pepper in Not Man Enough and let’s not forget when he blinded and married her in Two Together. Through all of this, they made us root for them and honestly, we’re still shocked they weren’t a thing. Na wa o.
Van Vicker and Nadia Buari
This is not the time for jollof or Shatta Wale wars, we all know that once upon a time, Nollywood and Ghollywood were one wood. Following the success of Beyonncé the President’s Daughter, Nadia and Van became the biggest Ghanaian exports to Nigeria. They were so big, Nollywood had them shooting village movies in the East. Why did these two work so well together? Well, we all thought they were dating. Look at the image above and tell us you didn’t see it back then.
Stella Damasus and Desmond Elliot
They didn’t do much together, but these two were iconic AF. Just look at the poster for Missing Angel, the film where he was the angel of death sent to collect her soul, but somehow ended up getting trapped by her snail. Interesting times. There was also Behind Closed Doors and a couple of others. Long story short, we thought they were a thing at some point but apparently, we were clowns.

oyatz: There was no city in Port-Harcourt before the Colonial Government created the city in 1913 and named it Port-Harcourt. However Ikwerre village of Diobu was already existing close by and the elders of Ikwerre granted the British the approval to build a port on their land.
The city had however enlarged into Ijaw and other Ikwerre Territories.
Igwe-Ocha is the term used by Igbos to refer to the city which came about in the 1920s years after the port was built.

Politics › Re: The Evening God Spoke By Utibe Ukim by sageb: 5:07pm On Feb 01, 2022 |
Josepholome: Akwa Ibom people had waited many months for the god of Hilltop Mansion to speak on his succession plan. Many times in the past year when his worshippers prevailed on him to show them the way, he always fought back pressure to name a successor. Each time the question was thrown at him, his usual answer was that he’s on the mountain waiting on god to reveal his successor to him.
And yesterday, god landed, naming the calm, collected King Yellowman, one of the newest members of his inner sanctum, to his partymen as god’s choice. Yesterday, god spoke.
I am not sure when awa god heard from his god but for a long time, his body language has been pointing towards the cleric who makes money selling beer and renting short-time rooms for men who don’t often tell their pastors and wives what they do behind his closed doors. Remember that wicked press report just a week ago? It wasn’t false prophesy.
I am also not sure which god awa god has been referring to all along. I know without doubt that the Nigerian politician is a god of some sort. If you have been in Nigeria since 1991 and do not know that any politician with some level of executive power is a god, then you have been living in denial. We deified our leaders a long time ago. We worship them, pray to them, genuflect at their appearance. We deliver our thinking faculty to them and believe every thing they tell us. Their wives are the goddesses we ignore at our economic and social peril. Their brothers and associates are the angels who minister at the throne, decide how the government is ran and transport goodness from the throne of greed to us mere mortals. When their children are too young to play serious roles or ride around in motorbikes and cars the cost of a state’s annual education budget or wed in reckless opulence, they are armed with guardian angels and educated at the best schools abroad. Their birth lottery guarantees they are too special to be trained at the school we build for other children. When they show up at state events, men and woman old enough to be their grandparents rise in worship.
We hail them: They are the best things that have happened to us. They are god-sent. They are the answers to the prayers our forefathers prayed before independence. We lie through our teeth and fall over ourselves to find new adjectives to describe them. It is not beyond us to take sacred songs of pure heavenly worship and put in their names in place of God. Haven’t you noticed that nowadays, political campaign songs are modified church praise and worship songs? Why not? Afterall our political leaders are the gods we see. They feed us. They make us as the wife of a former governor here would often tell people. We know the God of Heaven delight in praises. Why not a few to out our gods of politics?
Gods do no wrong. So our presidents, governors, ministers and local government chairmen are infallible. You disagree and question them at your risk! Whoever challenges a god and live? You cannot blame them when they are angered by your refusal to believe the lies they spew out. When they call black white, you must believe and accept. When they say that have fixed Calabar Itu Road just believe. Even if you can’t find the Family rice in our markets, don’t doubt that we are a major rice growing state. Whoever questions a god? When they say they are intellectual giants and go ahead to reel out budget titles that shows they belong to circuses rather than government houses, they expect you to believe! They remind me of an African god before them called Omar Bongo. He ruled Zaire. Now DR Congo. A short man with oversized ego and greed, ruthless with anyone who held the mirror to him so he can see that the little height he had attended was enabled by the six inches high-heeled wedge he stylishly covered with their A-shaped trousers.
They are like the African gods who must be sacrificed to. And what do they want for sacrifice, they best that’s available. They waste the best men and women so they will go unchallenged. They grab the best lands and own the best mansions that are maintained at cost that could train hundred of our people and equip them with skills and competencies the world needs today. Even when we know they are stealing us to death, converting our common patrimony into their personal estates and mortgaging the future so our great grand children will become slaves to their children and cronies, we still hail them, sing their praise and dance to their sneeze.
We call them honorables when they are truly horrorable. Horrific. Deplorable. Men and women who are fitting characters in State of Hell.
Being sworn into public office offers the added advantage of ecclesiastical powers in our clime. I didn’t say getting elected. That doesn’t happen often. The gods chose. The system delivers. And the millions of accomplices which most of us have become just line up behind them.
Awa god has spoken. We will all line up. One sleepy Senator told him last year to bring a cripple and the state will deliver to Government House. In a state where government is the main business, you will only find very feeble opposition. The gods own the ticket. When they speak, we must obey.
There will be angst in the land. Those who love King Yellowman are celebrating already. Many of those who wanted to be awa governor’s pick will rise and protest like headless chicken. Truth is, they all wanted the favour of awa governor. But you see, only one person could be picked. The picker has a right to his pick! The unpicked and unpickables can cry as they wish. Some will look forward to the party primaries to revenge the choice of the gods. Hmmmmmmm. If you watched the primaries in Ekiti, you will know that man proposes, but god disposes. And you remember, awa god was in Ekiti to ensure god’s will is done there. So he sure has some secrets on how to do it here too. Besides, most - if not all - were the ones crying now were the archangels that gave awa god its powers. Once given, you can’t take it back. Of course, the primaries will be a season of harvest; a time to repay some of them with the same treachery they visited on other aspirants before them.
We may have a repeat of G22 of 2015 when those schemed out of the primaries that handed awa governor came together to form a feeble opposition. Many were financially rewarded and soon became active leaders in the praise choir. A few will continue the fight hoping the 2017 scenario plays out. Those who think that way forget awa god was trained by the great teacher from Ukana and has no time for vision and plan like the architect from the lion’s den. Awa people have no room for failure.
My advise to King Yellowman; don’t mind the crowd of aspirants that will gather against you. It has happened before. Only God picked you. That Same God will deliver you to government house. Have you forgotten the quake when God spoke to the children of Israel in the wilderness? They were so afraid! The place shook. Akwa Ibom will shake. It is not the first time. Nor will it be the last.
Congratulations joor. I have been checking my ancestry to see if we are not related in some ways. I need some rights to a choice portion of the goodness you will share to your insiders. Enjoy your bullet - proof car. But don’t intimidate me with it just yet. You are a governor in waiting. And in Nigerian politics, 24 hours can be such a long time. Be very careful, Nigeria, gods change their mind. Remember that guy who won the PDP nomination for mayor of the capital? Where is he now? He saw Canaan but couldn’t enter. Pray; spend more time on the mountain with your fellow Fathers of Faith. Look for Mothers and Children of Faith too. That’s your best antidote to these faithless sons and daughters of men.
As my friend would say, if you are not coming to improve the state, at least don’t plan to leave it worse than you met it.
Since 2023 is still far, let me form my own praise team and sing,

bashful36: SUICIDAL MISSION My enthusiastic and workaholic approach to studies was recognized on this day 1st February five years ago when I was named as the OVERALL BEST GRADUATING STUDENT of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, 2016 session. The Chancellor and Vice Chancellor lauded me as a hero and presented me with three honors. I was so ecstatic when search FM FUTMinna requested me to provide junior student counseling, that I gave a mouth-watering speech. Prof. Sadiku, my school father, who has played an important part in my academic career, was so happy that he offered me a monetary incentive of ₦20,000 for making the entire Ebira proud at the school. After a while, the school administration deposited ₦30,000 into my account, ten thousand naira for each of the awards. Beyond my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the popular student concept of "life after school" began to take shape in my life. I started writing applications and submitting my resume to various offices. I took a lot of job exams and was usually invited for an interview and at the end those who did not even participate in the hiring process will be hired because they have GOD FATHERs. Not relenting in my efforts as a hustler, I travelled to Otukpo, where I worked on a farm and was able to raise fund for my master program and by his grace I maintain my academic status quo. Five years have passed, despite having an NCE certificate, a B.Tech degree with numerous awards, and M.Tech degree, I was still unemployed. Going down memory lane about how I converted our lecture classroom into my abode during my M.Tech program, couple with all I passed through to pay my fees right from my NCE days till now, depression set in. Mr Usman Aaze will say sir, everything is a function of time i.e L = f(t), with my aunty Habibat always on call track with me to guarantee I continued, I felt like quitting but Prof Sadiku kept refreshing me to keep going. Prof. Musibau Akanji once observed in his valedictory lecture "Suicide is Cheap." Nigeria is on a suicidal journey that will require divine intervention to avoid. On a daily basis, a lot of people like me are out on the streets. The dilemma is how will the future generation view our educational system if those who have dedicated their lives to education have nothing to show for it? Frustration and aggression theory opined that people become angry and aggressive on being kept from reaching a desired goal to the extent that they think that someone had intentionally and unfairly produced this interference or had deliberately and wrongly tried to hurt them. This is the primary reason why younger generations were so eager to make money that they skipped school and engaged in other fetish activities. Neither the wealthy nor the poor are safe in our country right now. I can’t indulge in evil that the society is encouraging the new generation. Thus my quest for academics pursue continues while praying for a better future. This leads me to the logical conclusion from Abraham Lincoln's words, which has helped me establish my personal philosophy. “I will be prepared and someday my chance will come.” May Allah, the Almighty, intervene in our current predicament. An interesting story One day, you shall forget all these difficulties for you shall be in a better place. |
