The Cathedral's bells have been ringing for 10 minutes every day at noon since his death. The 1984 Nobel Peace Prize winner died on Sunday, aged 90.
Tutu’s simple pine coffin with rope handles, adorned with a single bunch of white carnations, was carried into St. George’s, which provided a safe haven for anti-apartheid activists during the repressive white-minority rule.
His body was received by Most Revd. Dr. Thabo Cecil Makgoba, Archbishop of Cape Town.
Priests burnt incense as Tutu's simple wooden coffin was carried into the cathedral.
Tutu's eldest daughter Thandeka Tutu-Gxashe, accompanied by other family elders, walked slowly behind as the coffin entered his former parish.
His frail wife Leah had been wheeled into the church earlier.
He had clear wishes for his funeral and plans to honour him;
Psalmspsalms: Thank God I've met someone close to my residence. Pls I am in Bonny Island and I badly need a job. Can you help me to get something good in PH? I am a graduate of environmental engineering
Okay but Train7 project is ongoing in Bonny Island. Have you applied? You can meet the president, Bonny employment agency or the CLO to guide you with regards to employment opportunities.
SaintBishop: Probably kalabari man or Okrika man man should be the next governor of Rivers State. You ijaws in Rivers State need to come together to achieve your goals!
We will not make the same mistake we made in 1999 when we decline to support Isiokari because of religious sentiment, thus Peter Odili became Governor. Riverine Governor 2023 is a work in progress.
BlackSaints: Okrika is an ijaw Subgroup and not an ethnic group on its own. Thank you! And btw, Power Is coming to the Riverine Subgroups, the ikwerres had already used the chance of the uplanders subgroups so Ndoki abi Oyigbo should take severe seat back.
I am laughing at the Op post Imagine BUGUMA ethnic group DEGEMA ethnic group OPOBO ethnic group BONNY ethnic group The Op knows nothing about ethnic groups in Rivers State. What an Ignorant thread.
emexodoms: Please fam, between a Paramilitary job that pay 125k without any allowance for a start and an FMCG company with 165k + other bonuses and allowance for a start which is better for someone who is planing to leave the country soon(1-2years time)?
Go for the Federal paramilitary job One factor you have to consider is job security.
ModelLook: When I finished University after getting a B.Sc in Geography and Planning, I applied to teach in a Secondary School. (Forget the Planning attached to the course, it's all propaganda to make the course look professional. We don't plan anything).
The first school said they wanted to pay me between N15-N19K per month. I refused and left.
The second school said they will pay me N22K per month. I also refused and left.
I went for service. Was posted to teach in a Missionary School at Ilaro in Ogun state. Their students school fees was N150,000 per month. The principal was paying me just N5K per month. According to him, Ogun state govt told them (School Owners) to pay Corpers that amount (N5K Per Month) and after all, we were being paid N19,800 as Alawee.
In that school, the principal gave me all the classes to teach. I taught Geography (SS1 -SS3) and Agricultural Science (JSS1 to JSS3). I was practically teaching the whole school. I was so over worked with little pay. After school around 5pm ehn, I will almost feel like collapsing on the ground everyday.
After NYSC, I refused to teach again.
Teaching in a country like Nigeria takes PASSION. If you don't have passion for teaching, you will hate your life.
Why because the GOVERNMENT is part of the problem why teaching is the way it is in Nigeria. Then School Owners Capitalise on them.
The Government And School Owners Are The Reason Why Teaching Is Not Well Paid.
Also remember, PASSION CAN NEVER PAY THE BILLS. MONEY MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND.
If you/we complain now, they will reply " A Teacher's reward is in heaven". In saner clime, Teachers are respected and well paid.
eeetuk: Why Cross River State Cannot Grow and Develop under Governor Ayade. By eeetuk
Who is Ben Ayade? He is the current governor of the Cross River State of Nigeria. Governor Ayade record in office has proven that his administration is a failure. He ignored the kind of things that good governments do to grow and develop.
Key things to remember for governor Ben Ayade governing record include but not limited to bad roads in the state. In road infrastructure development, governor Ayade governance is a failure. Roads are a key issue and the infrastructure that supports the movement of people and logistics—forming the foundation of social and economic development, connecting villages, cities, ports, airports and other projects. One good example where governor Ayade has failed in road infrastructure is Calabar road to Uyo road in Akwa Ibom State (please the picture below). As the picture below will show (courtesy of thesouthernexaminier website), Calabar road to Uyo is a death trap to all motorists. In June 1, 2017 the former Managing Director of Niger Delta Development, Mr. Nsima Ekere escaped death on Calabar –Uyo road. A Police officer who was in the company of Nsima Ekere died in that accident.
And according to Photo Story website, it said “Mr. Ekere and others were on their way to Calabar, Cross River capital to receive Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, who is on a working visit to the state.”
It is important to note that when Vice President Osinbayo visited Cross River state capital, he praised governor Ben Ayade for the road’s development projects in the state. In fact, my investigation revealed that Vice President Osinbayo was misled when he praised governor Ayade. Further examinations of what governor Ayade told Vice President Osinbayo revealed that Mr. Osinbayo did not know the terrible conditions of roads between Calabar and Uyo.
The terrible conditions on Calabar road linking to Uyo have prompted many church leaders and youths in Uyo to block roads in protest over reckless spending going in between Cross River state and Akwa Ibom State governments.
Furthermore, a report published in the Harabi Post website on November 15, 2021 said “since governor Ben Ayade took office in 2015, he has spent N4 trillion”. This begs one question: what has governor Ayade done with N4 trillion he has budgeted and spent?
Roads are major business corridors linking Calabar to Uyo--for access to markets, healthcare services, social services, education and more, but entirely ignored. How can governor Ayade grow and develop Crosss River state by ignoring this important business corridor?
Advantages of Building Calabar road Linking to Uyo Road Building Calabar road linking to Uyo will have many economic and other benefits to both states. It will make both Cross River State and Akwa Ibom State to grow and develop by providing friendly business environments for investors to come in and open up businesses and to bring other materials needed for the production of goods and services. It will provide access to employment to citizens of both states It will provide access to health services, social services and education for citizens of both states Roads help to fight poverty by providing access to people to acquire skills needed for jobs.
Other key things to remember about governor Ayade are: Governor Ayade stance on many other key issues in Nigeria has come under fire in recent years. A few months ago, he incensed many Nigerians by opposing anti-grazing law—a position widely embraced by the Southern governor’s forum. He viewed anti-grazing law as something that could lead to anarchy and even war. By opposing anti-grazing law, he ignored all violent acts like kidnapping of people, killings and vandalism of business and personal property committed by the herdsmen.
In addition, governor Ayade recent defection from PDP to APC and his conduct during the transition has broken all rules governing democratic transition. After governor Ayade defected from PDP to his new party, the APC, he forcefully took over the PDP secretariat at 42 Murtala Mohammed Highway, Calabar—a behavior that enraged party members from both sides of the aisle. He even changed the color of the building along the way. He forced government staff to change party---moved from PDP to APC or get fired. Governor Ayade is an insane man.
Finally, governor Ayade partisan politics makes it impossible for Cross River State to grow and develop. Building Calabar road to Uyo has many advantages. It would allow Cross River State to develop economically. Tourism volume from Calabar to Uyo can increase up to 50%--translating into jobs opportunities for citizens in both states. And that means increase revenues for government which can be used to fix roads and provide clean drinking water for citizens and even electricity. Building Calabar road to Uyo can provide citizens of both states access to education, social services like childcare, welfare for vulnerable children and elders, information for healthier life—which are keys to growing and developing state. These are things governor Ayade does not understand, and the reasons why Cross River State cannot grow and develop until he leaves office. That is so sad and bad for the citizens of the
Prof. Ben Ayade have disappointed Cross River people. Enjoy your olympotic merismetesis till he leaves in 2023.
Mazterrr: Hello nairalanders, pls I need your inputs. Is it wise to abandon a job of 102k with accommodation in Benin for a job offer of 180k in PHC without accommodation? Matured inputs pls!
If your accommodation is taken care of by the company or you have someone that can help with accommodation, Then move PH The challenge here is that house rent is quite expensive compared to Benin which have cheaper rent rate. Another factor you need to consider is Job security. I reside in PH
Peterkalio: Good Day Guys, Happy Christmas to you all.
So I just finished my Secondary School, I'm the only son of my Parents, actually I was raised by a single mom, my Dad left us for another woman, I have four lovely sisters,.
Life in Port Harcourt hasn't been easy for my mother, she does literally everything to keep us off the streets and see that we are fed, I'm a very quite person, and this has cost me a lot in my short time of life, As a sixteen year old kid, I started working and doing all sort of menial jobs, I never liked the sight of seeing my mother suffer or working too hard,
I grew up in a rough environment and it had a really bad effect on me, at sixteen I already had the brain and the face if an adult, this, I guess is as s result of the hard work I do, I'm talking about cement mixing, loading sand in trucks, carrying blocks for building, I do all this, because I love my family and I never want my mother nor sisters to suffer,
I have this kind nature, and I think it's really pulling me down, I have done a lot of things in my life, which I can't say, really terrible things,
I just think the world ain't meant for people like me, because I don't have the balls to tackle what life brings, I don't want to be wicked, but I just think that if I have to survive in the jungle, as a boy from a broken home and no one to look up to, I have to grow a though skin
Though I just finished my internship in painting (wall/house), I haven't started making money from it,
"The Sad Truth" is that we live in a very wicked world and it sometimes seems impossible to do the right thing, because people would always look down on you, and take you for granted.
Psalmistproject: I resigned from my previous job around June this year as I needed time and concentration to work on a business model I was trying to build. As usual, my wife was anxious and worried about the financial flow in the house though she works but I earned higher than her. She's of the opinion that I stay with my current job while I'm working on whatever I have to work on but my nature is not built that way. I do a lot of thinking whenever I have a project to create or manage and my employed job drains me mentally so I can't share the brain for now to equally attend to my job and plans and still achieve needed productivity So I told her "Nwanyi oma, don't worry, I have to do this. We can't depend on people's jobs for our retirement. Yes spendings have to be limited but give me 2months I should be done planning and making consultations then I will look for another job even if it pays lower, I will take it at least by then I wouldn't require intense planning anymore just phone call follow ups and monies changing hands." She was not having it still but I understand she is concerned for what is enjoyed today so I quit still. Two months down, most of the ideas have been developed and a business plan ready. Consultations made but some of the needful partners are not stable, so we keep rescheduling and rescheduling making me extend timelines. Finally I was done! I have my formula ready. Partners/investors gave me a timeframe of two months plus to enable them gather needed resources so we can kick off. However it's been 3months to 4 months of being out of a regular employment so I am ready to job hunt. I will not say the kine nonsense wey i see job hunting. In fact, on one occasion, I landed in one health products networking circus seeing them posting my job field in their vacancies and inviting me for interview. Finally, about two weeks ago, I got a call for a job. It wasn't paying as high as my previous but the position is good. I started but just 2 days into the job I started getting calls with high prospects from my partners about our business project. Im trying to manage both my new job and my emerging project but my new job is mentally demanding and I want to impress my new boss. At this point I don't know how to plan things simultaneously If my partners calls, I can't just resign because my business plan was to be established in Enugu State while I am currently working in Portharcourt. I'm also holding a very sensitive position in my new office that any sudden movement it will affect the company and I will be sued or arrested. Please guys what do you think?
Follow up your Business plan/proposal but don't quit the job until you have finalize the business deal. I am in PH and I know how it is with regards to job hunting and job agencies. Look before you leap.
Hintona: In a thread I created earlier, I referred to someone as far and I was bashed.
Since when did it become a bad thing to refer to someone as fat in Nigeria?
Yes, it is offensive in present day language syntax The word" fat " have gone obsolete and can no longer be used to describe a woman/man. Fat can only be used to describe liquid in solid state. Fat when solid and oil when dissolved. You can say " Hintona is a busty lady" Fat is now obsolete in human description language.

Ayomide11111: I have been having a very long passion for acting, film or video production and e.t.c for a very long time, but I have not been able to mingle with any organisation or group that can give me chance to refine my potentials. Now I have decided to just start from somewhere and I wish to start from camera and its properties before moving forward to another level but Im confused of which categories to go for among these two, cinematography and photography. I don't know if cinematography covers everything to know about camera, or each of them has their different attributes.... Pls my brothers and sisters in the land help your boy out.
Begin with photography, then in two months time you enroll for video editing and cinematography.
