There is. karl marx envisage communism as the last stage of human society where the products will be to" each according to his ability and for each according to his needs". Our socio-economic reality have shown that this communism is utopia. |

Culture › Re: List Of Tribes In Rivers State Nigeria by sageb: 4:24pm On Oct 11, 2020 |
The people of rivers state are so blessed with various colorful tribes that you will be shocked that they even exist. These tribes most times are generally referred to as the Igbo tribes or Ijaw tribes and so on but the case is different when you read through this article because we took our time to make sure that we differentiate which is which make sure you learn something new today. So have a good read about this culture and tribes in rivers state making it one of the most colorful tribes in Nigeria.
Kula Tribe
The Kula people are found in Akuku Toru local government área of Rivers state. The kula people speak a language called kalabari. Not much is known about the history of this people. However, they share a lot with the Ijaw people.
The Kula people are predominantly farmers and fishermen. Also, Christianity, as well as their traditional religion, is practiced by this people. Kula men tie wrappers on singlet with hats to match while their women tie wrappers on blouses
Ikwerre Tribe
The ikwerre people are a tribe that occupies the present-day Port-Harcourt city. A lot of people consider this tribe to be an off-shoot of the Igbo tribe. Although a lot of Ikwerre indigenes do not consider themselves to be related to the Igbo tribe, they speak a language that is much related to the Igbo language.
Some historians have asserted that the Ikwerre people are not related to the Igbos but migrated from part of Benin.
Farming, fishing and hunting are the major occupations of this people. Also, Christianity is widely practiced.
Ibani Tribe
The Ibani tribe is one of the tribes of the Ijaw nation. The Ibani people occupy Bonny Island and have always had interactions with Europeans for many years. The people of Bonny are traders and practice Christianity.
Alcohol is a generally accepted drink in this tribe. Also, the Ibani people feed on plantain and fish as a major meal and are mainly farmers and fishermen. Men from Ibani tie wrapper on singlets and put on hats while the women tie wrapper on a blouse.
Abua Tribe
The Abua people live about 10 miles from Port Harcourt. It is believed that the Abua people are the real owners of Port Harcourt. History has it that the Abua people are a sub-group of the Igbo tribe and migrated from the same place as the present day Efiks.
Present day members of the Abua tribe are Christians and engage in the production of palm oil. Men and women from Abua tie wrapper. While the men put on singlets to complete their dressing, the women put on blouses.
Boma Tribe
This tribe is one of the tribes of the Ijaw nation. There are thirteen settlements in this tribe. They are; Diebu, Ekowe, Emette, Eniwari, Fonibiri, Igbematoru, Ikianbiri, kainyanbiri, Ozezebiri, Peremabiri, Polobugo, and Opuama.
The people of the Boma tribe are fishermen and are known to feed on meals of fish and plantain. They are predominantly Christians and are known to dress like other tribes in the Ijaw nation.
Degema Tribe
The Degema tribe occupies Degema Island in Degema local government área in Rivers. There are about 10,000 members of this tribe. The degema people are predominantly Christians. As a result of the fact that they are surrounded by water, the Degema tribe practices fishing on a major scale.
Men and women from Degema are known to tie wrappers. While the men put on singlets, the women put on a blouse.
Nkoro Tribe
The Nkoro tribe is a very small tribe. It is a subtribe form the Ijaw nation. Areas occupied by the Nkoro tribe include Dema, Ayama, and Nkoro. The people of Nkoro speak an Ijaw dialect with some traces of Igbo. According to history, the Nkoro people migrated from Okirika town. The Nkoro people do not all speak the same language. A section of the Nkoro tribe speaks a language that is absolutely different from the rest of the tribe.
As a result of the geographical closeness of Nkoro and Ogoni, the Nkoro have been influenced culturally and have adopted some Ogoni cultures.
The Nkoro tribe is a predominantly Christian tribe and fishing is the main occupation of this tribe.
Ekpeye Tribe
The Ekpeye tribe is a tribe that occupies the Ahoada and Ogba-Egbema parts of Rivers state. They are very similar to the Igbos and speak a language that appears to share vocabulary with the Igbo language. The people of Ekpeye are predominantly Christians and have farming as their occupation.
Meals of fish and plantain are common sights in Ekpeye settlements. Men from this tribe tie wrapper on singlet while women tie wrapper on blouse
@op kula is a kalabari community. Kalabari, okrika, opobo, Ibani,Engenni,Nkoro, et al are Ijaw subgroups. So you should not place Ijaw tribe in a different section. You forgot to add Okrika and Ndoki in your list. |

Filosofa: Darty Emmanuel,a lecturer at the University of Uyo wrote the following and I agree with him:
MY OPINION ON THE ASUU/FGN ISSUE
Mr President says get on the IPPIS platform or get nothing and for me, Mr President is right. ASUU should restrategize and get her priorities right. They can't be fighting for students, fighting for parents and fighting for themselves at the same time. The IPPIS is intended to check the excesses of Nigerian lecturers who work in 2 to 4 universities. I am a lecturer working in just one university so tell me, why should I be afraid of IPPIS? FG wants to increase school fees, ASUU will go on strike to fight it. Why not allow them increase the school fees and let students from all over the country protest? The matter would just solve itself given its tendency to escalate into full blown violence. Given the recent happenings in the country, the probability of such protests relapsing into full scale violence is 100% and government would not want that. If you ask me, FG is even more afraid of students than lecturers.
If FG says work in only one university, then let all adjunct, contract and sabbatical lecturers withdraw their services and go to their domiciliary institutions. That way, the unclothedness of the many new universities the FGN has created without adequate lecturers will be exposed. The FG will either hire new hands urgently or the universities will be shut down. That matter too can resolve itself.
ASUU should stop agitating for better hostels for students. Students pay money for these services to the FG and they have a stronger ground to demand for what they paid for, not lecturers. ASUU keeps fighting for what they call "revitalization funds" (I don't know what that means if you ask me). My question is, does ASUU have any active supervision over how such monies are to be expended by Governing councils of universities or Vice chancellors, bursars and other big men in the university management? Will they sit at table when juicy contracts flowing from such funds will be given? The answer is No. So why do you decide to go hungry, your salaries withheld, subjecting your self and dependants to hardship over monies that will be expended without your inputs or any form of supervision whatsoever? Meanwhile those that will receive the alert when this money lands are still receiving their salaries. This whole drama doesn't make sense to me. ASUU should trim it's demands to member's welfare and stop carrying a scary baggage of demands around. It is a trade union for God's sake. Let's put away this hypocritical toga of altruism. Everybody's problem cannot be your problem unless you want to die before your time. Dr. Darty E. Darty is a good and sociable lecturer. I remember Argument and evidence back in the days. That man is a revered logician. |

KrazyDave16: First semester results made me realize all my efforts put in for 100L was a waste. Three 3 unit course and a 2 unit course (English) F, GPA at second class lower (I stopped calculating after this nonsense).
I'm still wondering how I failed English after buying the books, doing C.A., attending class like a fool and writing the Exam (objective questions worth 60mks at that!!!).
HOD then wasn't helping matters.
After listening to the advice of my course advisor and some seniors, I decided to follow the system, even though it felt wrong. 200L things started to change (1 carryover), 300L no carryovers. Hoping to ace my internship while learning some skills just in case. so you failed use of english:GST111. Try your best not to have any C/O in the remaining semesters. Goodluck in your academic pursuit. |

LordeCalifornia: His last words 'et tu Brute' give credence to the fact that he died as a result of the shock that even Brutus, his closest confidante, partook in the conspiracy. he died because of the stab by the senators but every author seems to pass a message across with his/her writings. The emphasis on brutus stab is to tell the audience or readers that betrayal is an emotional pain that kills just like physical pain(the stab). |

Because I have seen someone running two higher institutions simultaneously if you don't apply for suspension of studies and you leave the school. It will be assumed by the school management that you have voluntarily withdrew your studentship. The implication is that you cannot return to that programme in future. |
