money121: The people of Ogu kingdom in Ogu/Bolo LGA of Rivers State on Saturday celebrated Iria, an ancient ceremony that marks the transition of girls who are usually virgins into womanhood
Young virgins were given certificates by the Ogu council of chiefs for passing through the test.
Iria, is considered a rite of passage for young girls as they reach puberty and begin to mature physically
To pass through the test, the girls must first be virgins which will be checked by women of the town, then they will be kept in a room where they will undergo training on womanhood
After passing through this process, the qualified girls will be given certificates showing that they are now adult ladies ready to marry. It's an OKRIKA Ijaw ceremony that dates back to the 17th century. It's an age long practice by the Wakirike-Ijaw people of Rivers State. |

TonyRazor: Anambra 2025: Ifeanyi Ubah may not be bad, but be careful of APC - Stakeholder
- Soludo ambassadors rally in Nnewi
The people of Anambra State have been warned to beware of the incursions by the All Progressives Congress (APC) into Anambra State.
A stakeholder, who pleaded not to be named for now, said this in a statement made available to our correspondent on Sunday.
Describing Anambra as a lucky state in terms of good governance, the stakeholder enjoined the people of the state to resist any attempt to thwart the status quo.
He said,"Ndi Anambra should be careful for this advocates of APC government through Ifeanyi Uba. The man( Ifeanyi Ubah) himself may not be bad . But see what APC did to Imo State . From the time Rochas Okorocha took Imo people to APC till date it has been harvest of bad governance in imo State .
"Anambra has been lucky with those who governed them . Apart from Dr Mbadiniju whose tenure was not inspiring , Dr Chris Ngige did well . Peter Obi was fantastically fantastic , the immediate past governor although with accusations of malfeasance have little here and there to show .
"The information available now is that Soludo is not doing badly . Currently I am a Labour party supporter because I believe in Peter Obi and what he can do . APGA should not be killed in Anambra state . If not APGA it must be Labour Party. Certainly not APC . Do not bring Tinubu disease to Anambra state"
Meanwhile, a group known as Soludo ambassadors on Saturday rallied in Nnewi, the industrial capital of Anambra State.
At the mega Zonal rally that was held at Nkwo Nnewi triangle, the conveners issued a stern warning to disgruntled opposition party members, stating that Nnewi North and the entire Anambra State were APGA.
Appraising the rally , the National Coordinator of APGA media Worriors said, "If you watch the video, you will see that Soludo Ambassadors are not joking.
"They are determined to join forces with other supporters of the Governor to ensure that APGA clinches a well deserved 21/21 victory in 2025.
"Anambra is in a safe hands and we will not allow transactional politicians like ifeanyi Ubah to actualize his evil aim.
"As long as Soludo Ambassadors and other supporters of the Governor are concerned, it is forward ever and backward never. No vacancy in Anambra government House till 2029. Good advice ONE WISH FOR CHRISTMAS @Shokoloko Good morning ma'am, A Christmas gift (preferably a laptop) will be deeply appreciated, thanks. I believe |

Littlechild: My fellow South Africans.
I want to share ✍ some short story with you about an unexpected journey of life. My voice on this forum is not loud, but it is filled with reality and truth.
I know of a prominent South African woman who left her paradise home land in pursuit of her happiness. This woman I was talking about, according to her confession, has strong dislike and hate for Nigerians. One day, she met a man👨 she seem to like. Unfortunately, this man was a Nigerian, the very people she hate.
She couldn't help her feelings. She couldn't believe herself realizing she had fallen in love with a Nigeria man.
She doesn't care because, the Nigeria man she met has all the natural attraction and qualities she was praying for in a man.
She hate Nigeria people because of what she feel and heard about them, but her heart wanted to be with this man even though she is hate Nigerians.
She pressed forward and asked for marriage from the very Nigerian national she hated. How did I know? Because women are always the one to ask for marriage from men they 💘love.
She got married to the Nigerian man, her new found love. She abandoned everything good she has successfully built in her home land. In fact, she abandoned South Africa and moved to Nigeria, the very Country who's people she hated so much through media.
She was lost in wonder and awe over the people she hated. She even brought her family members and friends who are South Africans to join her in Nigeria. At least she want them to have a taste of what she is currently enjoying with her Nigerian man.
She has been in living in Nigeria for years now, and was treated as a queen by the very Nigeria people she once hate.
Some part of her began to change from being a South African to a Nigerian because Nigerians have energize her. She is now a Nigeria citizen and she began to dress like the typical Nigerian wife. The Nigerians she saw from the media is different from the Nigerians she has come to know in person.
If the three of you 👉 WannaHowzit - KingCold - DomPerignon who are South Africans met with this your fellow South African woman, and tell her how bad you think of Nigerians. She herself will try to clarify, edify and educate the three of you about life. Why? Because her experience and life with the real Nigerians have edify and educated her.
That emotional hate which many of you South Africans have for your fellow African brothers is a symbol of blindness, ignorance and lack of exposition. Nigerian Men are good Samantha124 need to read this story In DJ Khalid's voice "we the best ". |

viodemus: lol.
You lucky. And if you no dey speak portugese, e dey enter gear.
I love Brazil.
Back in the day, I leave America for Brazil, long story short, my brother no follow me go.
My guy, I started from square half no be even one.
The embassy people wey I follow catch flight enter Brazil, stayed in Rio, upper class area, I go them house for 3 days, with the hope say i go get hotel, they had to travel to Spain.
Na im I go fool*shyly go lodge for hotel, with only $2320, wey everybody scrape for me. My brother dun go back Naija, dey plot him asia trip. Long story short, after another 3days for hotel of $225 per night, my pocket weight drop. Na so I begin think about my future.
I sabi speak portugese, and I fit get along with people, so from talking to people there, on to say, I dey find where to rent, them direct me about 2 hours away, even hotel dey cheap. I run into some Nigerians for Rio, one tourist, and two people wey dey stay there, some igbos. (dem avoid me because dem no understand this kind guy wey ready follow them anywhere wey dem dey go, and I use style tall pass them, so them dey call me giant), me not knowing say, dem dey find way to shake me off - my boldness no pure to them , I no blame dem sha.
Na so i enter hood for Brazil(deliberately unnamed) based on direction from those hotel workers for Rio. O boy, I no cun know say na one chance I enter. I no been know say, gang war dey brew for area. I dey this hood hotel for 3 weeks, dey find where I fit rent for a month, but e no to pure. After 3 weeks, I cun dey see say, I no fit get place then go find work, where i go start. Mind you, during this 3 weeks, i dey reason am say, no be for me to enter Nigeria, then go restart - at least I still know Nigeria better, but shame no gree me - make I call am pride.
Anyways, one thing I do for my first 3 weeks for hood, na to dey listen and speak less, e help me hide my Nigerian side, but I no know say e make the two gangs wey get beef, dey look me like either mercenary or undercover. I no dey sleep, when I go back hotel for night, na so I go dey learn the accent of portugese based on slangs from one area wey I dey tell this mamaput lady, say na where I travel from.
One day, I dey the lady shop, na him, like 4 guys show up spray like 3 people down for the shop across the lady shop. The lady sun already wan close her own shop, matter of fact, that week na her last week. I cun convince the lady say make she give me 2 months, to help her hold down the shop, while she go the other city start her new shop; she also been wan do am because her 16 year old daughter dey misbehave and she dey suspect say the girl dun turn their house to gang hangout.
The week I take over the shop, by this week, I dun comot the hotel, dey sleep for back of the lady shop; The first week, 2 guys show like normal, begin blast for the shop, na him dem hit me for back and my hand - thank God e no hit me for worst place. Anyway, dem bandage me up, even the ekelebe no know me proper - I still dey form person wey come from village side. I speak portugese similar to that side.
Small small, I cun dey learn about everything. I no change the name of the small mamaput shop, but I begin make suya type of meat, next thing you know, the place cun dey busy even more, and more yawa cun dey dey around. The place na neutral side wey both sides fit show. No be only our shop there. Dem also know the lady but no cun dey see her, but with the new busy way, I dey sell suya dey put am for aluminum foil with sauce on the side. So, like joke, many of them cun dey hangout there. E get one 17 abi na 16 year old boy, wey dem dey call Anode, na him dey give me more news on the low down of the area and who be who. Before I forget, dem rob me twice in two months, use their weapon hit me well well, stab me for hand - nearly comot my finger wey I dey try hold one of the guy from beating me not knowing say na him knife I go hold, na so he draw the knife, e tear my hand - e take over 4 months to heal.
One day, that small boy Anode and him friend, come there dey chill for morning, dey talk to the bar side near the small shop wey i dey run, na so like another 2 small boys show for bike, clear anode, two of him friends, and one girl.
Long story short, I cun let like 4 people cun dey help me for the shop, small small, some of the guys wey dey the gangs cun dey see me like person wey dem go give respect, I dun collect from both sides and even small new gang. Ekelebe dun arrest me multiple times, dun even shoot at me for the shop because dem never see me before. I thank God. And I still dey work, with bandage, with everything, as long as i fit move, dem (the gangs, the ekelebes, the regular area people) never see anybody like that - dem no know say na condition make crayfish bend - na necessity for me. I dey baff, everything for the shop. E ruff for my first year and half. Me wey dey think say, I dun comot Nigeria, say I dun escape that kind thing. I dey tell you, many times for night when I dey shop dey sleep, na so dem dey do shootout for the street, over 100 shots or more. The shop and other shops, bullet holes everywhere.
Long story short, with time, sometimes dem go dey talk about yoruba and their wish to go there, and all these, na so I use cun dey find out say many of them na igbos, after them do gene test (wey dem dey trace their root to Africa). No be say everyday na war o, there were fun days. But the war days na hellellee. When i see say dem dun dey like Africa like that, I begin dey play all that timaya, p square, those early davido, wizkid, etc so my shop (by now, I dun buy the shop from the landlord wey that lady rent from. I dun get like 4 boys there. I dey good on both sides of the hood. The day wey dem wan do peace treaty, na my shop both number 1s come with other community leaders, by this time I dun dey sell isiewu sauce with rice, suya, kpuff kpuff, chin chin, peppersoup, rice and stew, jellof rice (like coconut rice type), and some of their food. I get 5 people wey dey work there, I dun buy the bar next door.
Na so o, in 19months, I no sleep reach 4 hours a day. If no be war, na future planning. Na so i use get into oil and gas and underwater welding, from one of my big dawgs wey come around one day. I do unpaid training like 2 hours away from the shop area. Then I cun get money, go Nigeria, cun enter yankee cun learn more, make money go back, open more shop for Rio, then cun buy delivery trucks, cun buy fashion store, from there cun dey try. E no easy, movie never finish. But, now I fit enter Brazil and be treated like citizens. When some of them cun know say I be Nigerian, dem trip. Dem no believe am. I speak like them. The area people see when I nearly kpai. I get scar for head wey bullet scrape me, my hand, back, chest, leg, Na God o. But I will forever be grateful to Brazil. Nothing but love. I put basketball court, build play ground, help many people, just like i dey do for Nigeria.
Things for take longer than normal, but na God. With time, I cun dey meet more Nigerians, mostly igbos, but I dun meet real Nigerian yoruba before too. Even those nigerians wey I see in my first week, dem be paddy now. I take my brother enter Brazil for visit, like 2016 abi na 17.
E plenty, but make I stop now. Memories.
Just humble when you dey there, Brazilians can get really rough. And small pikin fit dey take cocaine, so dem no dey too normal. What a touching story Guy, you are a survivor. 😎 |

nyben231101: Point of correction brother, Opobo was founded mainly by the Opubo Anna Pepple group of houses (the reason why it was named Opuboama which means Opubo’s town) and a couple of other houses not from the 2 royal families in Bonny then, which were Fubara Manila Pepple house and Opubo Anna Pepple house ( The two sons of King Perekule 1 that survived the Bonny Vs Andoni war). Jubo Jubogha then was the Alabo of Opubo Anna Pepple house and was in a bitter dispute with the head of the other royal house (Fubara Mania Pepple house) which was Oko Jumbo.
How will Opobo be co founded by Fubara Manila Pepple House when they were the reason why Jubo Jubogha Left Bonny (Okoloama) in 1869 after the bloody civil war?.
Also, mind you, there was nothing like “Jaja family” in Bonny, King Jaja had no war canoe house that he founded while in Bonny. He started floating war canoe houses under his Polo when Opobo was established, he vacated the stool of Alabo of Opubo Anna Pepple royal house which was renamed Wogo Dappa house under Dapu Polo section, 8 other war Canoe houses sprang up under the Polo before King Jaja submerged one into his Polo due to debt.
Darn!, you should pay me for this history class 😀. You're right, Jaja had a disagreement with Manilla Pepple canoe house in Bonny. Oku Jumbo and his allied attacked Anna Pepple canoe house(Jaja's group). He left with other indigenes of Bonny to the hinter land in 1870 were he found an unoccupied vast land which he called "Opubo" now Opobo. |

Paraman: Fubara said those insinuating that he's not from the Ijaw stock were bereft of the history of the struggle that made Ijaw a reputable class of people.
Governor Siminalayi (Sim) Fubara of Rivers State has schooled his critics on the history of the people of Opobo, which he said were integral in the Ijaw struggle.
The Governor said this while dismissing insinuations in some quarters, claiming that he's not from the Ijaw stock.
He said this during his meeting with Regent and other representatives of Kalabari Se Kobiri at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Friday, November 24, 2023, a statement by his media aide, Boniface Onyedi, disclosed.
While stressing his status as a bona fide Ijaw son, Fubara noted that those insinuating that he's not from the Ijaw stock were bereft of the history of the struggle that made Ijaw a reputable class of people.
The statement quoted the governor as saying, “So, whoever is feeding you with that information should go back to their history classes. You cannot talk about the Ijaw struggle without the Opobo, the Bonny, and the Kalabari.
“We had our trade lines at that time and for you to occupy a trade line, it means you are a true Ijaw man. So, for the records, I am a full-blooded, up to my bones, an Ijaw man.”
Highlighting the qualities that distinguished the ethnic group, the Governor said the Ijaw people are bold, courageous, and forthright people who, despite being subjected to inhuman treatment, did not succumb to being traded as slaves during the slave trade.
He condoled the Kalabari people over the demise of their monarch, late King Theophilus J.T. Princewill, assuring them of his government's readiness to participate in the burial activities.
Fubara also urged the Kalabari people to set aside their differences and work together to give the late king a befitting burial.
For his part, the regent of the Kalabari kingdom, Dr Charles Princewill, said the purpose of the visit to the Government House was to notify the governor of the demise of Theophilus J.T. Princewill, Amachree XI, the Amanyanabo and Natural Ruler of the Kalabari Kingdom.
He also used the opportunity to formally invite Fubara to attend the late monarch’s funeral.

immortalcrown: The punishment is well-deserved if the school is actually guilty of the stated offense.
But what I don't like is selective justice. More terrible things happen in other schools but the authority looks away because the owners of the schools are not in the opposition parties. Isn't JAMB aware of the system in the Base University? Didn't those who did Law for only 4 years in the school go to law schools? If it is not selective justice, let the law schools be punished for careless admission of those students.
Many universities that lack lab equipment and standard workshops get accreditation for science and engineering courses. Students in those schools do only theories in courses that are practical intensive. Some years ago, three people who claimed to be graduates of a public university in Enugu State were exposed in NYSC camps because they could not speak simple English. Two of them "graduated" in Engineering and one "graduated" in Geography. Their inability to speak simple English drew attention to them and further findings show that they were not even qualified to be rated as secondary school graduates. Among the three so-called graduates, one who graduated in Electrical Engineering and was sent to a nursery and primary school as his PPA was rejected by the school because he could not read and write. Another one could not mention three states and capitals in Nigeria, and she didn't pass English subjects in WAEC. So, how did JAMB give her admission? The NYSC authority directed for the certificates of those guys to be withdrawn. The case ended just like that. The school was not probed on how those three people were able to graduate and go for NYSC. Till this moment, the university has never been denied accreditation for Engineering and Geography as punishment. Use Google to check this if you think I am making things up. https://dailypost.ng/2012/10/15/nysc-rejects-illiterate-graduates-esut/ https://www.informationng.com/2012/10/questionable-degrees-nysc-rejects-three-illiterate-graduates-of-esut.html
What is done to Base University now is justice and I am sincerely not against justice. But would the justice have happened if Datti is not in LP? This is like the EFCC that never jails any friend of the government in power. This is the same country where a forged certificate is used to be a president and being a drug lord is not an offense for a president.
ADDED I make it clear here that I am not against the punishment given to Base University. But fools who hate balanced judgement are making noise as if any part of my comment is against the ban on the university. If madness doesn't run in your lineages, show me where I said the ban is wrong. I even started by saying the ban is well-deserved. The sad reality 😔 |
