Samsung is the people's favorite for 2017 The year 2017 has been exciting in the smartphone world. There has been a lot of flagship releases and the contest has been hot. In order to find out which smartphone brand do people actually love the most I created a Poll. Users from all over the world have voted and have decided on their favorite smartphone brand for the year. Samsung is the people's favorite for this year, this is not much of a surprise because their flagship smartphones Galaxy S8 and Note 8 have been regarded by most as the best smartphone of the year. Samsung led the table with a whopping 29% of the votes. Samsung's major competitor Apple had only 14% of the votes which is quite surprising. Apple is currently the world most valuable brand and their flagship smartphone (the iPhone X) is an amazing device which received good rating only been defeated by the Galaxy S8. The Hong-Kong Based smartphone manufacturer Infinix came second with 20% of the votes. Infinix is a very popular brand in this part of the globe. One peculair reason Infinix is loved is because of the prices of their devices, their devices are also durable and have strong batteries. Infinix has become a loved brand and has definitely come to stay. Tecno-mobile, established in 2006 came third with 17% of the votes. Tecno is a direct competitor to Infinix and also a very popular brand in Africa.Their recent Flagship Tecno Phantom 8 has recieved high ratings and is well loved by the people. The Tech Giant Google had 6%. Google smartphones have come a long way from the Nexus series now to the Pixel series. Their flagship Pixel XL 2 is one of the best smartphones released this year. Nokia, Huawei/Honor and LG had 3% each. Nokia used to be very popular here years ago int the times of the 3310. Although they seem to be putting a come back with impressive releases like the Nokia 8 and others. There has been a lot of debates on whether Nokia can still become a top brand like it used to be back in the days. I can't say anything on that but they don't seem to be giving up, who knows what can happen. Other brands consisting of iTel, Gionee, Xiaomi etc had 6% of the votes and Sony alongside Lenovo/Motorola had 0%. Although I am surprised at Sony not managing to accumulate any significant percentage because the Sony Xperia XZ Premium is a very good device and there are high expectations for the upcoming Sony XPeria XZ2 which is going to be released at the MCW 2018 which is just around the corner. The XPeria XZ2 is to come with a bezel-less design which is the 'thing' now. In conclusion I congratulate Samsung on being the People's Favorite for the year 2017 and I am eagerly anticipating the upcoming Galaxy S9 which is codenamed "Crown". Before I sign out allow me to greet you Merry X-MAS and remember to share. It is the season of Love and Sharing. If you have any opinions, questions or contributions share them in the comment section. Source: http://www.9jatechguru.com.ng/2017/12/samsung-is-peoples-favorite-for-2017.html

5G is Coming, First 5G Spec has Been Finalized As we have reported earlier 5G technology will arrive in 2020 to change connectivity in many ways. To this end, operators, telecommunications companies, manufacturers and other relevant actors have been working in recent years both in the laboratory and in real environments. However, now according to the latest reports, recently, the first 5G spec has been finalized. 5G Is Coming. First 5G Spec Has Been Finalized 5G technology will arrive in 2020 to change connectivity in many ways. To this end, operators, telecommunications companies, manufacturers and other relevant actors have been working in recent years both in the laboratory and in real environments. However, until now everything was considered pre-5G due to the absence of an approved official standard. That comes to an end after learning that 3GPP members have approved the “Non-Standalone (NSA) 5G New Radio (NR)” specification, the basis for commercial 5G products. There have been many months of debate and work to reach a consensus on 5G. The truth is that the past experience of 3G and 4G, together with future needs, make it very important to be able to define the standards that will guide the fifth generation of mobile telephony. Also Read: Most Common Passwords Of 2017 At the beginning of the year, the telecommunications industry reached an agreement to accelerate to the maximum the necessary steps to have 5G standards approved before the end of the year and we can confirm that they have kept their word. Approved the 5G standard, although the concrete details will have to wait Just yesterday, a series of messages confirmed that the 3GPP had completed the first official 5G specification. That happened at a meeting held in the city of Lisbon. Of course, the official details will not be known until a few days, when this body publishes everything. However, we already have the first positive reactions to this first official specification. As the giant chip manufacturer, of course, Qualcomm says that it is a big step forward to allow manufacturers to start building the smartphones and devices necessary to make this technology work. As it has been known, the approved 5G specification covers a good part of the frequency spectrum. We have low bands such as 600 or 700 MHz, medium bands, such as 3.5 GHz or higher bands such as 50 GHz. All of them will be part of the 5G specification and each of them will have a special role. The Standalone (SA) version of the 5G will be complete by June 2018 that will define other aspects of the technology. For the moment, the manufacturers, operators and other key players in the sector already have something to work with more accurately to have everything ready for the launch of the technology in about 2 years. So, what do you think about the new upcoming 5G network? Simply share all your views and thoughts in the comment section below. After the allegations that the tech giant Apple would be slowing the iPhones, now the tech giant Apple decided to clarify the subject and admit that it has applied, in iOS, mechanisms that control the performance to avoid battery problems. Apple Admits It Slows Older iPhones The allegations that the tech giant Apple would be slowing the iPhone 6s, to solve battery problems, surfaced earlier this month. It was revealed in Reddit the analysis of a user who detected a great decrease in performance compared to another iPhone 6 Plus. After many theories, the tech giant Apple decided to clarify the subject and admit that it has applied, in iOS, mechanisms that control the performance to avoid battery problems. The reported case proved that the tech giant Apple was limiting the performance of the iPhone 6s processor, slowing it down. However, at the time many analysts suggested that this behaviour could be solved by simply replacing the battery. Apple’s claims about this case After several theories and new evidence, including coming from the founder of Geekbench, the tech giant Apple decided now to reveal what happened and admit that all the assumptions are right to limit the performance of the iPhone 6s, to fix the battery issues that had been reported in the end of last year. “Our goal is to deliver the best experience for customers, which includes overall performance and prolonging the life of their devices. Lithium-ion batteries Become less capable of Supplying peak current demands when in cold conditions, have a low battery charge or they act over time, Which can result in the device unexpectedly shutting down to protect its electronic components. Last year we released the feature for iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and iPhone SE to smooth out the instantaneous peaks Only When needed to Prevent the device from shutting down unexpectedly during these conditions. We’ve now extended queue feature to iPhone with iOS 7, iOS 11.2, and plan to add support for other products in the future”. Also Read: Its official, Apple buys Shazam The reasons for the existence of these measures on the iPhone According to the tech giant Apple’s claims, this behaviour is triggered whenever the iPhone’s battery gets old, cold, or undercharged. This is the way to solve this problem on lithium-ion batteries. The idea of the tech giant Apple is to minimize periods of high battery consumption, which may mean that it is not able to provide the necessary power, causing the devices to shut down. These measures are not limited to the iPhone 6s It was further revealed that these measures were not only applied to the iPhone 6s, but are also to the iPhone 6 and the iPhone SE, and not only that even with the arrival of iOS 11.2, these measures were also applied to the iPhone 7 as well. Hence, the tech giant Apple clarified the mystery and proved that the tech giant Apple has in iOS measures to control the performance of these smartphones, confirming not only this case but others that have been reported. In the next year 2018, Nokia will continue to maintain its Android strategy. The company owned by HMD Global has already prepared several of its devices and the future Nokia 9 is among one of them. Thanks to the FCC certification, via which we already know its characteristics. Nokia 9 Leaked The next year 2018, the Finnish company Nokia will continue to maintain its Android strategy. The company owned by HMD Global has already prepared several of its devices and the future Nokia 9 is among one of them. Thanks to the FCC certification, via which we already know its characteristics. This would be the Nokia 9: Android 8.0 Oreo series The Finnish company Nokia is betting on their devices for a pure version of Android and for updates delivered quickly. Through its program of betas, devices such as Nokia 8 or Nokia 5 already have Android 8.0 Oreo, and future devices will carry the latest version of Android as standard. Regarding the screen, the new Nokia 9 will have a 5.5-inch OLED panel; and presumably will reduce their frames as much as possible. It will have a double back camera of 12MP + 13MP, while the front camera will be satisfied with 5 MP camera. In terms of internal storage, a version with 128 GB is confirmed, so a model with less capacity is expected when the official announcement occurs. It will feature a Snapdragon 835 as CPU and a battery of 3250 mAh. Going back to the cameras, one of the latest filtered renders shows that the selfie camera would also be dual. This would confirm that the 5 MP sensor would be only one of the objectives of the device. Both cameras would be in the upper area of the terminal, pushed to the limit of the body of the Nokia 9 due to the lack of frames. The last details come from Geekbench, where the terminal has been subjected to several tests under the code name of Avatar. The future Nokia 9 would have 6 GB of RAM, at least in one of its versions. Presumably, those 6 GB would go to the model of 128 GB of internal storage, while a second model of 4 GB would be available for a 64 or 32 GB version of internal storage. IMG-1-8 What is clear is that the Nokia 9 is very close to its launch. It is expected some kind of official announcement by HMD Global for January 2018, making the Nokia 9 one of the first contenders of the year, before they reach other first swords as the Galaxy S9 from February. While the 9 would mean an update of the Nokia 8, it is also expected that throughout the year the rest of the ranges will be updated. Here are some key specs of Nokia 9 which are confirmed by the FCC:- Screen: 5.5-inches, OLED. CPU: Snapdragon 835. Operating system: Android 8.0 Oreo. Rear camera: 12 MP + 13 MP. Front camera : 5 MP, possible double sensor. Internal memory: 128 GB. Battery: 3250 mAh. RAM memory: 6 GB. So, what do you think about this new Nokia 9? Every year, the most frequently leaked passwords are released, and 123456 has long been at the top. Hence, today in this article we will show you the most common passwords of 2017. SplashData had gathered the passwords by looking at more than 5 million passwords that were made public following few data breaches in 2017. Most Common Passwords of 2017 We are already at end of 2017, and if we talk about security, then it will be good to hope that we’ll get a bit wiser, too. According to a new survey from password manager and digital vault company Keeper, the 2017’s most common passwords will shock you! Keeper has revealed 2017’s most common passwords, and once again the reports don’t seem to be on the safe side regarding security. The numeric combination of ‘123456’ was the most common password of 2017. Keeper had gathered the password by looking at 10 million passwords that were made public following few data breaches in 2017. Previous year 123456 was used by nearly one in five users. The reports from Keeper also states that four of top 10 passwords on the list consists of six characters or shorter, passwords like ‘12345678’, ‘111111’, ‘1234567890’, ‘1234567’, ‘password’, ‘123123’, ‘987654321’ are among the top ten list.A study by multiple web hosts revealed that most passwords were extremely week. If using a simplified password for your SME website try using Bluehost’s automated website password protect system. According to Keeper Security “This is stunning in light of the fact that, as we have reported, today’s brute-force cracking software and hardware can unscramble those passwords in seconds, Website operators that permit such flimsy protection are either reckless or lazy,” “Nearly 17 percent of users are safeguarding their accounts with ‘123456’. What perplexed us is that so many website operators are not enforcing password security best practices”. Every year, the most frequently leaked passwords are released, and 123456 has long been at the top. This year was no exception: here are the 25 worst passwords to use, while the famous six-number sequence is still the most common. The list was made by security company SplashData, which collected more than 5 million leaked passwords to identify the most popular. Usually, a popular password means a bad password because it is the first choice of malicious people to try to hack into your account. Check out the passwords that you should avoid at any cost in any login (and ranking variation):- 123456 (did not change position) Password (not changed) 12345678 (up one position) qwerty (rose two) 12345 (lose two) 123456789 (new) letmein (new) 1234567 (not changed) football (lost four) iloveyou (new) admin (has climbed four) welcome (has not changed) monkey (new) login (lost three) abc123 (lost one) starwars (new) 123123 (new) dragon (rose one) passw0rd (lost one) master (has uploaded one) hello (new) freedom (new) whatever (new) qazwsx (new) trustno1 (new) In general, passwords are obvious, and: have no variation of uppercase, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters; or are very short. Have you learned here in 9jatechguru that one of these two criteria should be used to create strong passwords. If you want to continue using easy-to-remember references to your passwords, such as Starwars, an alternative is to create little phrases like “I love Chewbacca!”, Which are incredibly difficult to guess (5-year-old to be precise), but you can remember easily. In addition, I can not fail to recommend a password manager, such as 1Password, and enable two-step verification of the main services that you use. So even if a hacker sets the password, he will not be able to log in. Lastly, under no circumstances repeat the same password in several services and, if a login is leaked, change the password quickly and stay safe. So, what do you think about this? Simply share your views and thoughts in the comment section below. Source: http://www.9jatechguru.com.ng/2017/12/most-common-passwords-of-2017.html |

We all know very well that the United States government has already banned the use of Kaspersky software in federal agencies. The justification was that the company would be working with the Russian government to do espionage. Kaspersky has now filed a lawsuit to try to reverse the ruling. Kaspersky Sues US Government Over Ban Russian cybersecurity firm Kaspersky Lab maintains almost 400 million users worldwide. You will be shocked to know that the Trump administration on Tuesday dismissed Kaspersky firm from two lists of approved vendors chosen by government agencies to obtain technology equipment. The General Services Administration had validated that Kaspersky is no longer an approved software vendor. This means that federal agencies and state departments are not permitted to purchase software products from Kaspersky. Here’s what General Services Administration said: “GSA’s priorities are to ensure the integrity and security of US government systems and networks and evaluate products and services available on our contracts using supply chain risk management processes” Well, this is not the first time Kaspersky had raised concerns regarding the collaboration with Russia. Recently, reports from US-based Media, including Bloomberg News suggest that the security firm had powerful ties than initially thought with Russian intelligence agency FSB. On the other hand, the security firm, Kaspersky have denied all the allegations, it had explained on its website that the company doesn’t have any ‘inappropriate’ ties with any government. Kaspersky also added that the company only operates with agencies to fight cybercrime. The United States government has already banned the use of Kaspersky software in federal agencies. The justification was that the company would be working with the Russian government to do espionage. Kaspersky has now filed a lawsuit to try to reverse the ruling. Kaspersky denies any connection to the suspicion that hackers linked to the Russian government would have taken advantage of a breach in a company’s antivirus to spy on an NSA employee and capture sensitive data. The company alleges that the leak occurred because the employee used pirated software, and has opened a program to allow governments to revise the software source code. Here’s what Kaspersky firm said: “Kaspersky Lab is very public about the fact that it assists law enforcement agencies around the world with fighting cyber threats, including those in Russia, by providing cyber security expertise on malware and cyberattacks.” “When assisting in official Russian cybercrime investigations, in accordance with Russian law, we only provide technical expertise throughout the investigation to help them catch cybercriminals. Concerning raids and physically catching cybercriminals, Kaspersky Lab might ride along to examine any digital evidence found, but that is the extent of our participation, as we do not track hackers’ locations. Kaspersky Lab doesn’t provide any government agencies, nor other parties, with information on location of people and doesn’t gather ‘identifying data from customers’ computers’ because it is technically impossible.” Kaspersky had also declined all the charges by claiming that it is being “unjustly accused without any hard evidence”. Still, Donald Trump signed a decree banning Kaspersky software from the US government. Major public agencies have migrated to other companies’ security tools. In addition, stores like Best Buy and Staples have removed Kaspersky products from the shelves. As a result, Kaspersky closed its office in the federal capital Washington. The Russians claim that “Kaspersky Lab did not have a fair opportunity to defend itself against the allegations and no technical evidence was given to validate the actions of the DHS (Department of Homeland Security).” In addition, the US government would have “damaged reputation and business operations without any evidence of irregularities.” Therefore, “it is in the interest of Kaspersky Lab to defend itself in this matter”. If someone asks you to quote a company that has the same name as its main product, the answer can no longer be “Opera Software”. However, according to the latest reports, recently, the company, Opera Software has confirmed that it is changing its name to Otello Corporation. Opera Software Changes Name To Otello Corporation Android is an operating system that allows full customization accessibility to software and apps that are used. We are not stuck with any app and we can choose which ones we want to use. This allows us to switch Chrome from any browser, one of the best alternatives being Opera. This browser has now been revamped and gives the user a much better user experience. As earlier, we reported that how Opera has been looking for a long time to improve its browser, in all versions and in the various supported systems. Its experience has worked a lot for users and the news is many. This time they focused on the Android version, having redesigned its entire interface, to give the user a better use and experience. The first change is even in the Opera interface, which becomes more personal and even more user-friendly. There is an area called “For You”, which gives direct access to news and information that Opera understands to be useful to the user. Based on Artificial Intelligence, choose the news based on the use of the browser. The more you use it, the more accurate it will be. However, now apart from its browser app, if someone asks you to quote a company that has the same name as its main product, the answer can no longer be “Opera Software”. Recently, the company confirmed that it is changing its name to Otello Corporation. With the browser, however, nothing changes. As Opera Software (actually, Opera Software ASA) is a company with a lot of market time, the change of name causes strangeness. But Lars Boilesen, the CEO of Opera Software, explained to “The Next Web” that the new name is part of a legal agreement. What? It is good to go back to the past to understand. In 2015, a consortium formed mainly by Chinese companies Beijing Kunlun Tech and Qihoo 360 made a $1.2 billion bid to acquire Opera Software. But the deal was not approved by regulatory agencies, prompting the consortium to make a lower offer of $600 million to buy only parts of Opera Software. The offer was made in July 2016 and approved in November of the same year. With the deal, the Chinese consortium eventually became the owner of Opera Software, which handles products for final consumers. Consequently, the consortium also became responsible for Opera browsers. Note that despite not responding more browsers, Opera Software continues to operate, but in other businesses. The name change, according to Boilesen, was necessary because the Chinese consortium also acquired rights over the Opera brand, which is why the agreement already provided for changes. It is clear, therefore, that the Otello Corporation (the name is a reference to the opera of the same name) is now representing the parts not bought by the Chinese consortium. These include businesses in areas such as games, online ads and telecommunications, hence, the name change will be gradual. Boilesen is also a strategic adviser to the Chinese consortium. Thus, it is presumed that there will still be links from Otello Corporation to Opera browsers, at least for some time. So, what do you think about this change? Simply share your views and thoughts in the comment section below. Source: http://www.9jatechguru.com.ng/2017/12/opera-changes-name-to-otello-corporation.html |
If there is something that is very present in recent times are cryptocurrencies. Its boom has invited many users to invest in this type of digital currency. However, now according to the reports recently security companies have discovered a new malware that can destroy your phone. This Android Malware Can Literally Destroy Your Phone If there is something that is very present in recent times are cryptocurrencies. Its boom has invited many user s to invest in this type of digital currency. The problem is that, in parallel, the related malware has also increased. Hidden cryptocurrency miners have emerged for both computer and mobile devices. One of them is Loapi, a variety that could destroy an Android phone if users do not eliminate it in time. Malware that can destroy your phone This variety of malware known as Loapi damages mobile devices and the reason is that it overheats and overloads the device’s components. This causes the battery to bulge, deform the cover and even stop working or burn other components. The main function of this malware is to mine cryptocurrencies. As we know, it uses system resources to do this. It puts the maximum capacity of a device and this causes the damage we have discussed. It is something like if we took a car and we always took it to the maximum of revolutions. It could heat up or suffer engine failure. The same happens on a computer or, in this case, Android mobile devices. It has been discovered by Kaspersky Labs. Researchers say that Loapi seems to have evolved from Podec, a strain of malware detected in 2015. Back then, cybercriminals used Podec to bypass Advice of Charge (AoC) and CAPTCHAs to subscribe victims to SMS services from the top rate. Advanced malware The new Loapi malware is much more advanced compared to the simplistic Podec variety. Kaspersky experts call it a “game for everything” because Loapi has a highly advanced modular structure and components for all kinds of unpleasant operations. For example, the new Loapi malware includes modules for:- Mine Monero Install a proxy to send traffic Inject ads in the notifications area Show ads in other apps Open URL in browsers Download and install other applications Launch DDoS attacks Track web pages (subscribe users to payment platforms, for example) Currently, Loapi advertises itself in third-party app stores. It pretends to be a mobile antivirus or an adult application. The malware uses the classic trick of annoying users with an endless stream of pop-up windows until the user does what the malware wants. This is how Loapi gets the administrator rights of the device and how Loapi forces users to uninstall real antivirus applications from their phones. Applications infected with Loapi will also close the Settings window when they detect that a user is trying to deactivate their administrator account. Users will have to start their device in safe mode to remove Loapi. The procedure to start in safe mode is different depending on the smartphone model. While Loapi has not entered the official Google Play store, security researchers from Kaspersky and ESET discovered other strains of malware that did. For example, Kaspersky discovered 85 applications that were infected with a Trojan that would steal VK’s login credentials. According to the statistics of download of Play Store, it seems that more than a million users have installed these applications. So, what do you think about this? When Samsung, Apple, LG, Xiaomi and many other firms opted to launch “Bezel-less” smartphones, the Japanese tech giant Sony was the only company that went through this fashion. Today, however, they may have changed their minds. Sony Xperia XZ2 To Have Bezel-Free Design For all those who wondered if Sony would enter the current trend of smartphones with all screen, the answer has come in a recent filtration of what could be the new Sony Xperia XZ2, a successor of the XZ1 with which the brand would present its first mobile with all screen and no bottom frame. When launched by Xiaomi, the concept of Bezel-less or all screen seemed an aesthetic element to differentiate its smartphone from the rest. But when the brands with more weight in the sector, like the South Korean giant Samsung and the tech giant Apple, implemented the Infinity Display and FullView designs, it became clear that the theme of the frameless mobile is no longer a choice, but a trend that must be followed, and that brands like Huawei already assembled the feature in its mid-range. When in August we saw the debut of the Sony Xperia XZ1, it was clear that the Japanese brand preferred to remain in its classic design, but for the successor of that model, things may have changed. Image of the Sony Xperia XZ2 with all screen Recently on the web, the technical data of a Sony H8216 model appeared, which was immediately identified as the possible successor of the Xperia XZ1, a terminal with a large camera that we recently analyzed extensively and the current ‘flagship’ from Sony. And today we have started the week with something better: a filtered image, the possible first image of the Sony Xperia XZ2 that already shows us an exterior design that embraces the Bezel-less concept. In fact it impresses with regard to the change with respect to the XZ1, because we have a front screen of 5.48 inches that occupies 90% of the entire surface, and the Xperia XZ2 would look like a smartphone without a bottom frame and with an upper one with the Just thickness for the camera, speaker and other sensors. For the rest, there are no alterations type curved screen or details to the iPhone X for example in terms of giving an alternative look. This possible image of the Xperia XZ2 keeps all the classic design of the Sony devices, except the expanded screen. Double camera, new at Sony It is not the only look at the appearance of the XZ2 that we have had today, since there has also been a render of its rear design that would confirm what would be one of the major novelties of the terminal along with its screen: a Dual rear camera with two lenses placed in vertical format, the LED flash next to one of them, and a fingerprint reader underneath them. The Sony Xperia XZ2 will have according to the data leaked yesterday a screen of 5.48-inch ‘without frames Triluminous FullHD display, with a powerful processor Snapdragon 845 as internal heart next to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal space along with expandable storage. The battery is expected to be 3130mAh, with a front camera of 15 Megapixels and the aforementioned rear with two 12 Megapixel lenses. The whole system would be powered by Android 8.1 Oreo. The most significant is the presence of a Snapdragon 845 that would make it clear that Sony will position this XZ2 as its high-end of 2018, but also that it could come out later than the Samsung Galaxy S9 because of the fact that Koreans have used all the Qualcomm’s first batch of processors for its flagship earlier this year. Anyway, the MWC 2018 is getting closer, sure to materialize we will see more of this new Xperia in the coming weeks. cc: lalasticlala, Seun So, what do you think about this? Well, the price of Bitcoin has seen a massive growth this year. According to the reports from CoinBase, the price of Bitcoin jumped to $19,000 recently on Saturday. Right now the price of Bitcoin is trading a little above $19,000. Bitcoin Price Crosses $19,000 It is not by chance that so many people have been talking about the popular cryptocurrency, of course, Bitcoin. The cryptocurrency Bitcoin broke all historic records in 2017, and many people believe that it will not only continue this exponential rise, as one day it may replace the currency we have. After the bitcoin broke the $10,000 barrier, a debate took place behind the scenes of 9jatechguru about when to report future cryptocurrency records. It seemed reasonable to comment when it was over $16,000 – and that has already happened. The price of the popular cryptocurrency bitcoin has risen 1500% since January. It’s a case to say that it’s crazy! Although many consider that the Bitcoin currency is nothing more than a “bubble scheme”, the truth is that it is already worth more than $ 19,000 and the record was reached on Saturday. In just 24 hours the value of the cryptocurrency grew by 10%. Also Read: Things You need To Know before Investing In Bitcoin This popular crypto-currency, Bitcoin more than tripled in three months; in August, a bitcoin was worth $3,000. Since the beginning of 2017, when the currency was quoted at less than a thousand dollars, the accumulated valuation is about 900%. How much will the appreciation of the Bitcoin electronic currency reach? As it can be seen from the chart below, taken from the CoinBase website, the currency has grown significantly in recent days and this Saturday has hit a new record, more than $19,000. Compared to last month this currency appreciated more than 146%. IMG-1-3-1024x445 What is Bitcoin? We can refer in generic terms that it is a virtual currency created in 2009, based on the peer-to-peer (P2P) system. P2P is a system that does not provide for centralized authority to control currency or transactions, as with other currencies (for example, the INR. is controlled by the RBI). Instead, money creation and transfers are based on an open-source network in encrypted protocols that form the basis of Bitcoin’s security and freedom, making transactions instantaneous among users. The invention of a mysterious computer guru, who referred to his pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto, this coin is created by means of a very complex mathematical formula. Analysts believed that the well-known and most used currency Bitcoin would be able to finish the year worth more than 10,000 dollars, but the truth is that the value has almost doubled. Other virtual currencies are also breaking records, such as the Ethereum-based ether, which had its price multiplied 58 times in 2017 from $8 to $470. In addition, the more than 1,000 crypto coins represent a US market value $308 billion. If you’ve considered starting a blog, you’ve probably run across the term self-hosted blog. Most people will tell you that a self-hosted blog is the way to go, especially if you’re looking to create a professional image. But what is a self-hosted blog? And why do you need one if you can just start a blog for free through other services? Below, we explain the details of free and self-hosted blogging platforms, the pros and cons of each, and which one you should choose. Free Blogging Platform What is it? A free blogging platform is one that is just that: it’s free to sign up for an account, get a domain (such as www.example.com), and set up your site. You can start your free blog with services like Blogger.com and . The thing about a free account is that your website’s files are stored – or hosted – on your blogging platform’s servers. While there can be costs involved after the initial set up – which we’ll get to in a moment – this simple fact is what differentiates a free blog from a self-hosted blog. Pros of a free blog: There are no initial start-up costs. Free programs like WordPress and Blogger are easy to set up and maintain without any prior website design knowledge. Cons of a free blog: Unless you pay for your own domain, you’ll have the WordPress or Blogger domain tacked onto yours, such as www.example..com. Free blogs appear less professional than self-hosted ones. You have less control over your blog. For instance, people who self-host their blog with the WordPress software can download plugins to expand their website’s capabilities. A free WordPress blog doesn’t allow this, limiting you to only a few options. CSS functions and theme selections are also limited on free blogging platforms. You have a limited amount of bandwidth, video time, and memory space. Free platforms usually limit your advertising options, meaning that it’s harder to make money from your blog. What types of costs are involved? A free blog can be completely free if you want it to. However, if you’re looking to get rid of the “Blogger” or “WordPress” in your domain name, you’ll have to buy and assign your own custom domain. These can be as low as $10 depending on what you pick. You may also choose to buy stock photos, hire a designer, or purchase an upgraded theme, which can all add to the cost of your blog. Who should use free blogs? Free blogs are best for people who are just exploring the blogging world or are not very serious about blogging. If you’re just blogging for fun, then by all means start with a free blog! Self-Hosted Blogging Platform What is it? A self-hosted blog is one that resides on your own server. Most people, however, pay a third-party to host their blog, which opens them to all the benefits of a self-hosted blog. Sites like HostGator (which I recommend),QServers and Bluehost are among some of the popular companies that provide hosting services. Essentially, these companies rent out digital storage space to users to make running a website possible. Pros of a self-hosted blog: You have full control over your blog, including in its layout, search engine optimization, advertising revenue, additional functions, and more. You can install custom themes to brand your blog. You have complete access to your backend files, which allows you to make any necessary code changes. Using a third-party host usually costs only a few dollars per month. Cons of a self-hosted blog: It requires an initial investment. It can be intimidating to new bloggers. What types of costs are involved? Like with a free blog, any photos, domain names, and themes that you purchase will add to your costs. With self-hosting, you also have to invest in the cost of using a third-party host. The good news is that hosting can cost under $5 per month. Certain plugins—which is a piece of software that you can install on your site to expand its functionality—can cost money, too. Who should use self-hosted blogs? Since self-hosted blogs look more professional and perform more functions, they are best for businesses. They are also ideal for the individual who wants to improve his or her professional appearance and boost the functions available on his or her website. vs. WordPress.org One issue that often comes up when looking at free sites versus self-hosted sites is the difference between and WordPress.org. What is WordPress? WordPress is an open source platform that has been developed by tens of thousands of people. Essentially, WordPress was created by a community of developers, and it is now a free blogging platform that can be used on a free or self-hosted basis. To get a free WordPress site, all you have to do is visit to start designing your site within minutes. is run by Automattic, a company created by WordPress co-founding developer Matt Mullenweg. Here, you can use a restricted version of the WordPress software, and your site will be hosted on their servers. WordPress.org WordPress.org, on the other hand, offers the full extent of the software. However, in order to use it, you need somewhere to store your website files. That is where a third-party host comes in handy. If you are not sure which way you want to go, its worth starting a blog at and then later upgrading to a self-hosted blog while still using WordPress software. The good news is that once you find a host, they can usually help you install WordPress on your site, and then you can enjoy the easy-to-use software with full control over your site. Still confused? Leave us a comment with your question. Source: http://www.9jatechguru.com.ng/2017/12/should-you-choose-free-or-self-hosted-blogging-platform.html |
