Rant time!!!
Just got off a call with a government agency and I'm so mad.

UK is very sh#t atm. Not sure it's worth it at this point in time vs 10yrs ago for example. Why?

Home office - massive delays. Simple Visa is taking 3 months plus after paying thousands of pounds.

Housing - almost impossible to get even though you have your cash (not to mention rate is exorbitantly high). You will go for viewing and agent/landlord will start making you fill application form like say na job interview.

Driving Licence - Impossible to book test date. Everything is months in advance, before you start using those apps to bring within 2 to 3 months. Why so stressful?

Health care - to get GP appointment na war. Someone will be filling unwell and GP receptionist will say can you come in two months time? Not to talk of more serious issues like surgeries etc. That wait is years!

In summary,
Taxes high, rent stupidly high, energy bills crazy, Govt services not available. I swear this country is frustrating!!!! This is not a first world experience at all. Others should steer clear.

To the gentleman that mentioned Canada. For a minutes I thought OP was actually describing Canada. First world experiences are similar. The listed reasons should not be the reasons why you decide to jump ship.

Canadian experiences below:
- You won't wait months to see a GP (family doctor in Canada). You may wait a few days or weeks sometimes to get an appointment to see your GP. If you walk-in without appointment, one can see a GP after waiting a couple of hours and on specific days of the week, but they won't refer if a specialist is required if he/she is not your GP.

If you were able to get an appointment to see your own GP and you get a referral, it could take another average of 2 months to see a specialist doctor. In addition, getting an elective surgery done could be years away. Some people with money just fly to the USA.

Finally, getting a GP to accept you as a patient can also take months or years (depending on province). So if one has no GP, the patient will have to rely on emergency room doctors to get referrals to a specialist. To see an Emergency room doctor can take 6 hours or more if the patients case is not life threatening. Triage nurses would triage accordingly.

- Calling a government agency in Canada. Good lord - I hope you have atleast 2 hours of your day to spare before they pick up.

- CIC Canada are very notorious for visa issuance, PR and any sort of visa applications. Be ready to wait months, years, and they do not care if you are a student resuming at a specific time. They would take their time. Visit visa can take 6 months to process and student visa can equally be of similar timelines.

- booking a driver's test could be maybe one month to 6 weeks as well. Patience is key.

- Housing. Despite the high rent, It's not uncommon for landlord to conduct credit checks, ask for 3 references including work reference from husband and wife, full month deposit, payslips, employment letters e.t.c before even inviting you for a viewing and there could be 50 other viewing the same apartment or house. Luckily, there are people with cold and damp basements that have less stringent requirements. Don't even try to get on gov subsidized housing except you are ready to wait 2 years and up.

- Taxes. Same same. Very high

A federal judge on Wednesday sentenced former Bordentown Township Police Chief Frank Nucera Jr. to 28 months in prison for lying to the FBI investigating his hate-crime case, saying he has “a lifetime status as a convicted felon, a racist, a liar.”

Nucera, 64, the longtime police chief in the predominantly white community just south of Trenton, appeared to show no emotion as he stood next to his attorney, Rocco Cipparone, who pleaded for leniency. Cipparone argued that Nucera had otherwise had ”a well-lived life.”

U.S. District Judge Robert Kugler said he wanted to send a strong message to police officers and the public that such misconduct as found in the Nucera case would not be tolerated. He noted: “Unfortunately, I can’t change his heart.”

”The general public has suffered,” Kugler said. “His words and his deeds caused great harm to the public perception of the criminal justice system.”

A jury in October 2019 convicted Nucera of lying when he told the FBI he did not strike a handcuffed Black teenage suspect at a Bordentown hotel in 2016. The jury was deadlocked on two more serious hate-crime charges and a mistrial was declared.

Kugler noted that the verdict showed that the jury believed Nucera violated the teen’s civil rights and shoved his head against a door jamb. Officers said the suspect was not resisting.

”His motivation was racism,” the judge said.

Authorities said Nucera had a history of making derogatory remarks about Blacks, speaking about unleashing police dogs on spectators at high school football games and about joining a firing squad to mow them down, and comparing them to ISIS. In a recording played during his three-week trial, Nucera could be heard saying, “It’s gonna get to the point where I could shoot one of these [expletives].”

In another recording commenting on the 2016 election, Nucera lauded former President Donald Trump as “the great hope for white people.” He said Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton would “give in to all the minorities.”

Nucera, a 34-year law enforcement veteran, has been stripped of his $7,400-a-month pension and depends on his wife’s income and money from relatives, Cipparone said. He previously was a township administrator and Air Force service member, he said.
