Oyegun stressed that Buhari needed time to form his cabinet because the transition period was so short. “The expectations of the public in terms of the kind of persons that they don’t want to see in governance are so high that even he (Buhari) with all his prestige and core followership has to be careful about who he appoints even as a cleaner in the villa,” he stated Buhari had blamed former President Goodluck Jonathan’s outgoing government for delaying his ministerial appointments saying the previous administration had stalled a committee report that was meant to assist him in the transfer of power. “I don’t know why people are so anxious about ministers. But eventually we will have [them],” Buhari had told reporters at the 25th African Union summit in Johannesburg. “But the main reason is that I have an interim committee…I agreed with former President Jonathan that the Minister of the outgoing government should hand over their notes or their documents to this interim committee so that a position can be prepared for the new government to start from with clear records from ministers…but unfortunately, the outgoing government did not cooperate. “I want to get ministers after…I have seen the report because I don’t [want] to appoint a minister today and sack him the next week because this report would give me what actually happened in terms of security [and the] economy of the country.” The Naira has continued to dwindle, food prices continue to spiral out of control, and inflation remains unchecked, as the country slowly trundles along. http://www.post-nigeria.com/administrative-delay-even-appointing-a-cleaner-scares-buhari-oyegun/ |
Barack Obama, President of the United States of America, USA, has extended an invitation to President Muhammadu Buhari to visit the White House on July 20 for discussions pertaining corporation between both countries. This meeting would be President Buhari’s 7th foreign trip away from Nigeria. He has accepted invitations to visit Cameroun immediately after the Ramadan fast, coupled with his visits to South Africa, United Kingdom, Germany, Chad and Niger republic. As many anticipate the dividends of “change” President Buhari promised, Nigerians are left to ponder on the direct benefits such trips would bring to their lives. As the nation continues to grapple with consistent attacks from Boko Haram in the North-east, a struggling economy and National Assembly controversies, President Buhari’s priority is directed at foreign trips in the midst of these challenges. What is highly questionable is if the solutions to Nigeria’s challenges lie outside the shores of the country. The President’s earlier trips to Niger and Chad came across to many as a political stunt in an attempt to create an impression that some action is being taken towards dealing with the resurgent activities of the terrorist group. President Buhari visited his Chadian counterpart, General Idriss Deby on June 3 2015 and subsequently met with President Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger republic. Days after these visits, Boko Haram have been unrelenting, carrying out several attacks leaving many to wonder why President Buhari prior to his election relegated the sect to a group which “could be easily crushed.” Few Nigerians have said he seems to be oblivious and overwhelmed by the challenges of governance and perhaps the magical “change” slogan adopted by his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, is simply mere rhetoric with no substance. The National Assembly crisis which is a direct fall-out of the sharp division in his party the APC is causing a setback to the legislature. One wonders if this is the promised “parallel government” viz; dividing the nation’s legislature President Buhari’s campaign Manager, Rotimi Amaechi promised. The nation is now embalmed in crisis which needs the President’s urgent attention before he attends to any foreign trips or as they say “putting his house in order.” One wonders if he has been informed about the emergence of a new sect “Yanlabaiku” in Kebbi preaching against western education. The lax response from President Buhari is strategically leading Nigeria away from the APC’s promised Eldorado. It is no gainsaying that Nigerians are yet to come to terms with the good leadership and better economy that the President and his party promised, weeks after the long waited presidential handover to a new Government. With the economy running without any policy direction and policy focus which has kept major investors aloof on President Buhari’s policy stance; he should be weary of the Banana peel. http://www.post-nigeria.com/buhari-criticised-for-jetting-round-the-world-as-nigeria-boils/ |
The All Progressive Congress, APC, and National Assembly crises seem far from over as Pro-Lawan Senators have demanded that the Senate President Bukola Saraki reverse the appointment of Principal Officers in the Assembly. The group has threatened to cause a stalemate on resumption, if the various anomalies are not put in place. This is coming close to the resumption from the over 3weeks recess that has been extended one week ahead in the bid to stall the unending crisis. The Pro-Lawan Senators also accused the Senate President of violating the Senate standing order by inaugurating fresh Senators as principal officers and ignoring orders from the APC. Senator Kabiru Marafa of Zamfara Central and the spokesperson of the Unity Forum stated the following: “They violated rule 3(2) to appoint both senators Ali Ndume and Bala Ibn Na’allah as leader and deputy leader, and now we hear another alleged absurdity that senator Godswill Akpabio may emerge senate minority leader. “Senators Eyinaya Abaribe, James Manager, George Sekibo, Emmanuel Paulke, Solomon Bwacha, Sonni Ogbuoji, Andy Uba, Uche Ekwunife and others, should not be in chamber while a fresher like Akpabio is becoming their leader. “I swear to God we will not allow this impunity to stand and a fresh one to be added “Who is the chairman or leader of North- West caucus for example? who is the secretary? If that is, who appointed or elected them, where and using which law?. “We all know how the leadership of the political parties and how they emerge. We know the supremacy of the political party (section 65-2b) of the constitution. Let somebody tell us the supremacy of any caucus. “Maybe they want stalemate in the 8th senate, looking at how they are running the place. They better shut it permanently than to reconvene and attempt to run it without respecting rules. “Oga Senate president please read order 1. They are misleading you; Nigeria no spoil reach this level God forbid. Read More here: http://www.post-nigeria.com/nass-crisis-senate-will-boil-we-will-bring-saraki-down-unity-forum/ |
The leadership crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress, APC, has accelerated, as Senator Dino Melaye from Kogi-West Senatorial district has lambasted and described as narrow-minded those insisting Senator Bukola Saraki erred when he refused to acknowledge the letter from the party leadership. The letter recommended Senator Ahmad Lawan and others for principal officer positions but Melaye insists that the various caucuses outranked it. Melaye who made his position known in a programme tagged “Focus Nigeria” aired on AIT exonerated Saraki of any blame and stated that principal officers of the Senate are appointed by the Senate caucuses and not the leadership of any political party. “The truth is that leadership of principal officers are appointed by their various caucuses. “It has never happened in the history of the legislator where any party would write the parliament and indicate names against positions. “People who advertise ignorance may come up with very myopic arguments.” Read his remaining statement here: http://www.post-nigeria.com/melaye-defends-saraki-labels-aggrieved-lawmakers-myopic/ |
Deep and widespread dissatisfaction across the board remains amongst Nigerians, as they have continued to air their discontent with President Muhammad Buhari’s delay in the appointment of Ministers more than 6 weeks after his inauguration as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This is according to an independent poll conducted by POST NIGERIA. Respondents from the poll were asked “Should PMB have appointed Ministers by now?” and the results revealed that 59% of Nigerians are dissatisfied with the delay in the appointment of Ministers, while 27% are of the opinion that the delay remains inconsequential. 14% of the respondents however responded indifferently indicating they could not be bothered with Buhari’s sluggishness. The findings from the poll reveal how the expectations Nigerians have of the Buhari administration are quickly shifting away from the “Change” mantra. The poll which covered a sample size of about 6,000+ respondents, revealed that a total of 3,631 respondents (59%) attested to the fact that Buhari should have named his Ministers by now. 1,684 respondents (27%) were of the opinion that the delay in naming the Ministers does not matter while 834 respondents (14%) were indifferent by stating that the delay does not really matter. Buhari since assuming office more than 6 weeks ago, has been widely criticised for barely making any major moves towards delivering on his lofty campaign promises, delaying the appointment of critical aides and Ministers to drive his policy goals and aspirations. On Monday, the Nigerian Pilot quoted Thomas-Greenfield as saying “As a policy, we will continue to press the government of Nigeria, as well as other governments which have provided legislation that discriminates against the LGBT community. “This is very much a work in progress, but I think you will agree with me that the law in Nigeria really went far in discriminating against this community, but also people who associate with them. “So we will continue to press the government, to press the legislature to change these laws and provide human rights for all Nigerian people, regardless of their sexual orientation.” She went on to state that “With what is happening in the US, you can determine how far we are willing to go.” In conclusion, she said “So we are prepared to push this as a policy, not just in Africa but across the world.” Femi Adesina, Spokesperson to President Muhammad Buhari, has further escalated the fear in many Nigerians, that the Government has plans to repeal the Same-sex Marriage Prohibition Act passed into law by the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan administration. Adesina did this while providing the itinerary of the President’s 4-day US trip. In a press statement released on Wednesday, the Presidential spokesperson stated emphatically that Buhari’s talks with Obama would only focus on security, trade and economic ties. Adesina’s statement completely ignored the statement made by the US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, where she stated clearly, that talks between both Presidents would include a proposal for the reversal of the Nigerian law on same-sex marriages. Those of us who were in the chambers that day and managed to get the Senate Presidency should be given national honours because at that point, PDP had more numbers than us, the quorum of the Senate was 38. “Since they had more than 38 they could have nominated a Senate President and to remove a PDP/ Senate/Deputy President we needed 73 which the APC didn’t have.”In light of the on-going leadership crisis rocking the National Assembly, Senator Dino Maleye has said the Senators belonging to the Like Minds group of the All Progressives Congress, APC, deserve national honours for making it possible for an APC candidate to emerge as Senate President. Speaking in a programme on African Independent Television, AIT, on Tuesday, Dino who represents Kogi West in the Senate, disclosed that the People Democratic Party, PDP, Senators on June 9 had all that was required to produce the Senate President. http://www.post-nigeria.com/senate-presidency-i-deserve-a-national-award-from-apc-melaye/ |

While workers in Osun State continue to endure the untold hardship of unpaid salaries for over 6 months by Governor Rauf Aregbeshola, his counterpart in Sokoto State Aminu Tambuwal has approved the early payment of July salaries to civil servants before the Eid-il-fitr celebration. This directive was contained in a statement by Tambuwal’s spokesperson Imam Imam who said payments have commenced to all categories of Government workers in the State civil service. The statement also urged the workers to reciprocate the Government’s gesture by rededicating themselves to the service of the State. Tambuwal was also quoted in the statement wishing all citizens of Sokoto State happy Eid-el-Fitr celebration, in advance. In a direct twist, the Osun State Workers and Pensioners on Monday, July 13, reached a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with the embattled Aregbeshola to end their six week strike over the backlog of un-paid salaries. Jacob Adekomi, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in Osun State told journalists in Osogbo that the strike was called off in the interest of the State. “The MoU we have signed today is agreed to by both parties taking due cognizance of the present parlous financial situation of the state government, on an interim basis, as a condition precedent to suspending the Strike Action. http://www.post-nigeria.com/bailout-tambuwal-pays-july-salary-aregbeshola-calls-for-truce/ |
A human Right Activist Ebun Olu Adegboruwa has said that the delay in President Muhammadu Buhari constituting his cabinet contravened Section 147 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which mandated the President to appoint qualified persons into offices. Adegboruwa, a Pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, stated this during the weekend while speaking at the exemplary leadership summit at RCCG, Lagos and stressed that after one month of Buhari’s administration, he was still struggling to resolve the National Assembly leadership crisis. The human Right Activist who is also a close friend to the Vice-President, Yemi Osibanjo, urged Christians to hold the present leadership of Buhari accountable. Adegboruwa had on May 29 in a piece, eulogized his close friend Osinbajo, stating that he had an excellent academic background, was a great man of faith, as an ordained pastor, in the Redeemed Christian Church of God and a close confidant of its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye. Adegboruwa had on June 22, 2015 file a suit at the Federal High Court in Lagos against Buhari compelling him to appoint ministers or cease to be President. http://www.post-nigeria.com/osinbajos-henchman-batters-buhari-labels-president-lone-ranger/ |
The Managing Director of Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas, NLNG, Ltd, Babs Omotowa has insisted that the N1.2 trillion bailout fund for States was generated by the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. Omotowa who made this known in an interview refuted claims by the presidency claiming the fund was not generated from Jonathan’s administration. The NLNG boss while confirming that $1.6bn was paid to the Government from operations said “We did not pay the government $1.6billion dividend but $1.6billion corporate income and education tax, which is different from dividend.” He however insisted that “this of course is from our activities in 2014.” Following the plea by some State Governors to President Muhammadu Buhari for rescue in order to pay workers salary, Buhari assented to the release of the sum of N1.2 trillion last week. At least 12 of the 36 States including Osun, Rivers, Oyo, Ekiti, Kwara, Kogi, Ondo, Plateau, Benue, and Bauchi states are believed to owe their workers over N110billion in salaries and allowances. Following the release of the fund, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a statement through its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh insisted that the fund was saved by the immediate past administration. “It is gratifying to note that gradually the evidence of monies left behind by the PDP-led administration is coming to public light despite effort by the new government to hide the facts. “The public had been made aware that $2 billion was left in the ECA for which the Accountant–General and the APC confirmed approvals for the withdrawal of $1.7 billion.” The statement read. In reaction to the above, the Presidency in a statement through the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said the PDP claim was false and ridiculous. Adesina in the statement said “The Presidency deplores the attempt by the PDP and its agents to create an unnecessary controversy over the well-intentioned effort by President Muhammadu Buhari to give some relief to state governments and long-suffering public sector workers. http://www.post-nigeria.com/bailout-jonathan-generated-the-funds-used-nlng-md-insists/ |

Amidst the turbulent lingering crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, the Presidency has disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari delayed to dive into the National Assembly crisis because he had earlier resolved to work with anybody that emerged as the leader of the 8th assembly. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina who made this disclosure on Saturday on a Channels Television programme “Sunrise” stated that Buhari was thinking that every APC member would key into the party directives and mantra of Change. “What President Muhammadu Buhari forgot is that he was thinking that the party members will play according to the rules of the party. That is why from the inception he told the world that he ‘belongs to everybody and belongs to nobody.’ “Buhari forgot that politicians have permanent interest. He has waded in to the crisis rocking the party, and we believe that the issue will soon be settled. “He is our father, many things are being done behind the scene to resolve the crisis, we will come out stronger.’’ Read more: http://www.post-nigeria.com/nass-crisis-where-president-buhari-went-wrong-adesina/ |

he National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ahmed Bola Tinubu once again vented his anger at President Muhammadu Buhari on the ongoing National Assembly crisis rocking the 8th Assembly adding that Buhari gave room for the volume of criticism trailing his six-week old administration. Tinubu disclosed that Buhari has done nothing to enforce the party supremacy that he parroted during the National Executive Council meeting held at the APC’s Party secretariat. Tinubu said: But, to be sincere, the President gave room for some of the recriminations. For instance, he is blamed for allowing the National Assembly crisis to fester after claiming rather incredulously that he had no interest in who runs the show. “By the time he realized that it was in his interest to show interest in the matter, the renegades had dug in so deep they could not be stopped. “All Buhari could do was to scream “party supremacy” and tell the recalcitrant lawmakers to “pocket their ambitions”, ambitions that are already too big for their deep pockets. “But that, to the small assemblage of Dracula’s, buccaneers and barracudas of National Assembly politics who do not take hostages, is a mere slap on the wrist. “In fact, Yakubu Dogara, the House Speaker, in a petulant manner, launched into an academic exertion on the etymology of “party supremacy”, insisting that it is no match for “people’s supremacy”. Insolence? More like it.’’ He added: “If Buhari really believes in party supremacy, what has he done to enforce it? Or does he believe –this thought I shudder to harbour – as some people with little or no knowledge of the issues that the revolt in the National Assembly is a mortification of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu? No. Never. “It is rather the humiliation of the party–what some pundits have described as a game of party politics versus politics of the party, a fore shadow of the party’s destruction. Will Buhari allow this to happen? “The President has, in fairness, acknowledged the fact that the battle has been won but the war could be lost. So, when will the move to clear the clouds and avert the threatening deluge? “The lesson of it all: a leader must not prevaricate and procrastinate. No ambiguities. Say what you mean, mean what you say and insist on it. Never speak to impress – your subordinates may latch onto this to misbehave. “Be swift as an arrow once you are sure of what you want. Be firm and stay firm. This is called principle. “Those saying ankali, ankali do not necessarily get it right all the time. Do they? “Now, those critics – gourmands, I swear – who say Buhari, because of his slim-and-trim diet-frame (they ascribe this to his ascetic culinary taste, as if they are familiar with the intricacies of presidential meals-preparation) will lack compassion for starving workers are now eating their word. States have N713.7b for workers’ long overdue salaries and there is joy in the land. In an advertorial published in LEADERSHIP NEWSPAPER titled “10 AVIATION FACTS ON THE JODA REPORT”, the stakeholders hinted that the purpose of consummating a merger should be to achieve common benefits in the form of financial, operational or profitability gains and not to be seen as a solution to debt. Based on the approval of over N400 billion as an intervention fund to end the lingering crisis of unpaid workers’ salaries by President Muhammadu Buhari, Dr Katchi Ononuju, has criticized the action stressing that it would lead to an unprecedented inflation in the economy. Ononuju, a renowned economist who stated this during an exclusive interview with Post Nigeria on Tuesday, disclosed that it was only the removal of fuel subsidy that can cushion the effect on the economy. According to Dr. Ononuju: “The so called bailout is likened to a rainfall; the questions to be asked are would there be adverse weather?, YES! Would the Government take some prompt decision that would affect the poor and vulnerable? “The best thing is for the Government to pay off what is owned in salary arrears to the workers across the country so that it could act as a tool for stimulus and once that is done, the Government can remove fuel subsidy. “So when you remove it, the poor do have money to conquer any adverse effects from the removal of subsidy. “That’s the only way we can use one stone to kill two birds, he should release the money in piece meal and let it be like the Udoji salary commission payout in 1972.” Jerome Udoji was the Chairman of the Salary Review Commission that proposed an enhanced salary structure for civil servants. It was a welfarist attempt to enhance the purchasing power of the civil servants. It was the first time that Nigerian workers enjoyed salaries that enhanced their capacity and improved their purchasing power. He further explained that if the needful was not done Nigeria would be neck deep in high rising inflation that might cripple the economy. Dr. Katch Ononuju, an Abuja based economist has described President Muhamadu Buhari’s latest approval of N700bn from the relief fund to offset the backlog of outstanding salaries, and monies owed contractors, as a contradiction and a reflection of his cluelessness on the state of the economy. Katch, in an exclusive interview with POST NIGERIA, doubted Buhari’s understanding of how the economy operates, re-instated that the bail-out is a far departure from Buhari’s earlier “empty treasury” stance. He therefore cautioned Buhari and politicians in his administration to stop degrading and spreading lies about the economy. “The Government seems not to know where to go right now. “Right now the Government is clueless because if the driver of a vehicle suddenly has the passengers in the vehicle fighting even before it has left the park, I think that could be described as being clueless “There is nothing like an empty treasury. “I believe Buhari was just lying with his empty treasury statement. Reports have emerged that the National leader of All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Former Acting Chairman of the Party, Bisi Akande have been barred from attending the on-going APC National Executive Council, NEC, at the Party’s Headquarters in Abuja. Tensions heightened on Thursday as there were alleged moves to bar the duo from the meeting, although reasons were not given. A group of angry leaders, backed by former Governors of the party, are set on a collision course with the leadership of the party over Tinubu’s alleged role in the leadership crisis rocking the National Assembly. Some APC Governors had queried Tinubu’s status as a “national leader of the party” and insisted that if he is allowed to attend the NEC meeting, then, former Governors are also ready to also demand entry and participate in deliberations. “If they allow Tinubu to attend the meeting, we will also attend. Just wait for the drama that would take place if anybody who is not a member of the NEC attempts to enter the meeting…” APC’s constitution stipulates that there shall be a National Executive Committee, NEC, of the party consisting of these people: National Chairman; Deputy National Chairman (North); Deputy National Chairman (South); National Secretary; Deputy National Secretary; Six National Vice Chairmen, one from each Geo political zone of the Country (to be also known as Zonal Chairmen); http://www.post-nigeria.com/breaking-tinubu-akande-shut-out-of-apc-nec-meeting/ |

Since the inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari on May 29 as the 6th Executive President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the frequency of his major appointments from the north has generated murmurs of unease from citizens. Political analysts who expressed concerns, lamented that the mantra of change that the All Progressives Congress, APC, was parroting, may not be holistic as President Buhari appears to be “pursuing a northern agenda.” His appointments so have been: Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mrs Amina Zakari (North), Head of Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, Mordecai Ladan (North), Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris (North), and Chief Security Officer, Abdulrahman Mani(North). Also appointed, are: The State Chief of Protocol, Lawal Kazaure (North), Aide De Camp, ADC, Lt. Col Mohammed Abubakar (North), Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu (North), Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina (South), Chief of Staff, Col Hamid Ali (North) and the Director of State Security Service, Lawal Daura (North). Apart from the appointments, recently, Daily Sun reports revealed that the dissolution of the board of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, had triggered intense lobbying to fill the positions of the Group Managing Director, GMD, and those of Executive Directors. “Some highly placed northerners from the core northern states are already strategizing to fill existing vacancies, while other qualified officers from the N/Central, S/West, S/East and S/South geo-political zones, would be pushed to obscure departments and positions,” Daily Sun had claimed in a report. http://www.post-nigeria.com/appointments-buhari-king-of-the-north/ |
Dr. Muiz Banire, the national legal adviser to the All Progressives Congress, APC, has thrown a subtle jibe at Senator Bukola Saraki, describing him as desperate for power, and lacking in the fear of God. He stated that the APC had learnt a bitter lesson from the current political logjam bedeviling the party. “The leadership crisis in my own view can be attributed to lack of fear of God. “If all politicians could reason that life is ephemeral, they would not have been so desperate to attain any positions. The former Governor of Kano State and current serving Senator, Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have asked a High Court sitting in Gezawa, to stop the Economic and Finance Crimes Commission, EFCC, from arresting him. The Gezawa High Court registry will therefore sit for the hearing of the notice filed by Kwankwaso’s attorney for hearing tomorrow. Kwankwaso has been accused of embezzling Government State funds without fear of being challenged by anyone. His government was therefore termed the “Kwaskwarima”, meaning a Government that is only after renovating or giving facelift to projects or programmes earlier executed by his predecessors, and claiming credit for jobs he did not originate. Despite accused of not initiating any programme of its own, he left a debt of over N105 billion meant for the payment of 2,715 uncompleted projects in the State for the new Dr Abdullahi Ganduje-led Government. On another ground, Kwankwaso was accused of misappropriation of the over N255 billion federal allocations to the 44 Local Government Areas in the State. It was alleged that between June 2011 and 2014, Kano Local Government Councils received N255, 642,147,212.80 but could not be accounted for. Among several others, Bashir Nasir & Co filed a petition barely 24 hours after handing over, on behalf of pensioners in the state civil service who dragged Kwankwaso to court demanding the repatriation of N2 billion pension money allegedly deposited by the former Governor in the Kano branch of Euro Bank Plc.
