PoliticsWhy Buhari’s Stand Off With Saraki Has To End – Timi Frank by salterswan(op): 9:26am On Aug 06, 2015
The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Timi Frank has beckoned on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately extend an olive branch to Senator Bukola Saraki in order to end the unnecessary cold war said to be going on between them.

Frank added that a failure to do this could endanger the goodwill Nigerians have reposed in the APC’s change agenda.

He revealed all of this in his weekly column “Frankly Speaking”, in an article titled “Saraki: Time to end the cold war” published in Leadership Newspaper, warning some of Buhari’s cronies plotting against Saraki’s reconciliatory move to be wary of digging APC’s early grave.

Frank stated the concern that the earlier the President eliminates the perceived cold war between him and Saraki, the better for the collective gains of his administration.

This is coming after weeks of disagreement and fisticuffs over who occupies the leadership positions in the National Assembly.

On June 9, Saraki rose to become the Senate President against the decision of the leadership of the APC, which had already endorsed Senator Ahmed Lawan. This event which the APC initially rejected and thereafter accepted after the legality of the process was proven, spawned discontent between Buhari and Saraki.

The Presidency had released a statement backing Saraki but however regretted that party supremacy was jettisoned in favor of personal ambition.

Reacting to these unfortunate developments, Frank insisted that Buhari had no choice than to extend a hand of companionship to Saraki considering the indispensable relationship between the Executive and the Legislature which could either make or mar the performance of his administration.

“Saraki, and indeed President Buhari are both spot on that the onerous business of governance would no longer be business as usual. This presupposes that they need one another to succeed.

“They have no choice but to collaborate to lift this country out of poverty, insecurity, joblessness, infrastructural decay and to build a better image for the country at the international frontier.

“Soon, the Senate will be screening the Service Chiefs and there may be need to revert to the President who nominated them to clear any grey areas. Again, the President has promised that he will name his ministers in September. Should this happen as promised, the Senate would have to screen the President’s nominees.”

“What will it be like for the Senate to reject any of the ministerial nominees?”

“Presently, there are talks about drastic reduction in the number of ministers to serve in the current dispensation. The move, according to those reading the body language of Mr. President is aimed at cutting cost of governance which has already hit the roof. This can only happen if the relevant constitutional provisions are amended.”

“The constitution cannot be amended without the approval of both chambers of the National Assembly for which the Senate is a leading arm. To go ahead with proposed changes without the express approval of the National Assembly would be anachronistic in our incumbent democratic milieu.”

“There are also talks about the unbundling of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). The National Assembly need to amend the relevant laws for this to happen. The earlier the President and the Senate President begin to relate as demanded by the Constitution, the better for all of us who voted for change.”

“Mr. President must not allow the present scenario to be construed as shying away from meeting Saraki because he emerged as the Senate President even though he had no preferred candidate for the position. I will never believe this conclusion because Buhari is a leader whose words are known to be his bond.”

“The body language of Mr. President since the emergence of Saraki is unfortunately not in character with his avowed posture before the inauguration of the National Assembly. Mr. President and indeed the APC cannot afford to squander the goodwill of Nigerians on the altar of unnecessary internal squabbling.” Read more here: http://www.post-nigeria.com/why-buharis-stand-off-with-saraki-has-to-end-timi-frank/
PoliticsRevealed: Boko Haram Members Suggesting Dialogue Are Scammers by salterswan(op): 8:45am On Aug 06, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari recently dispelled any idea suggesting he was uninterested in engaging in dialogue with genuine members of the Boko Haram sect, sparking elements of the insurgent gang to reach out for proposed negotiation talks.

The extremist sect based in northeastern Nigeria has been perpetrating increasingly sophisticated attacks against soft targets including suicide bombing in major cities in Nigeria, Chad, Niger and Cameroon and has links with international terrorist group ISIS .

The international community including the United States of America, USA and the United Nations, UN, has repeatedly condemned Boko Haram for perpetrating numerous crimes against humanity.

Buhari during an interview on CNN, pledged to wipe out the sect with the current intelligence-led gathering from neighboring countries and support of the international community.

Reacting to plans to utilize dialogue as a carrot approach towards Boko Haram, he stated that he could not rule out that option.

“I cannot be against it. I told you our main objective as a government is to secure those girls safe and sound back to their schools and rehabilitate them to go back to normal life.
“So if we are convinced that the leadership that presented itself can deliver those girls safe and sound, we would be prepared to negotiate what they want.”

Against this backdrop, the Centre for Crisis Communication, CCC, claimed that some elements from the sect, have reached out to express their desire to be accommodated in the dialogue window.

The Executive Secretary of the Centre, Air Commodore Yusuf Anas (retired) made this disclosure when he said that some elements reached out to the centre to facilitate the dialogue process with the Federal Government.

Reacting to this development, Barrister Zannah Mustapha, founder of Future Prowess Islamic Movement based in Borno blasted the group stating that those seeking for the dialogue could simply be regarded as scammers and fraudulent agents.

He added that the real Boko Haram members were hiding in areas such as the Sambisa forest and its environs.

“We had phantom offers of dialogue in the past that did not yield any positive result and we must not complicate the issue any further. Government and our security forces must not give room for scammers. The real Boko Haram terrorists are in the hinterland; the way they operate is different. PoliticsWada Lied, How The Igalas Marginalized Okun, Ebira In Kogi – Adaba by salterswan(op): 5:32pm On Aug 05, 2015
The Chairman, Media & Publicity, Kogi West and Central Forum for Equity and Justice, Tom Adaba, has spoken about what he terms marginalization of the West and Central regions by the Eastern region of the State.

Adaba made this assertion via a press release made available to Post Nigeria, refuting a claim by the State Governor, Idris Wada in a recent interview claiming the absence of any marginalization at all in Kogi.

Adaba recalled the administration of the founding Governor, Abubakar Audu, between 1991 – 1993 and 1999 – 2003 and that of Wada’s Government as examples of such oppression.

“In Kogi State, there are three senatorial districts; East – comprising Igala and minorities like Bassa-Komu; Bassange, Egbira Mozum; West with the Okuns, Nupes, Oworos, Egbira-Kotos, Bassa-Komu,Gukeri, Ganagana and Hausa; while the Central – comprising Ebira-Okene, Ogori Magongo and Ajaokuta.
“The State’s Internally Generated Revenue, IGR stands at 7% East,12% West; and 72% Central, yet, the East has produced the Governor of the State for 18-years, the life-span of democratic governance since the creation of Kogi State in 1991.”

He criticized the lopsided appointments made by Audu and Wada which have favoured only the East, despite contributing little to the IGR and to the growth of the State in general.

“Audu’s 6-years of Governance of two terms produced 17 Commissioners out of which 9 were from the East, while 4 each came from the West and Central regions respectively.
“33 Permanent Secretaries were also produced with 18-from Kogi East, 10 from the West and 5 from Central.

“In the State’s Civil Service of 33,000 workforce, the East had a lion share of 23,100, while 5,940 were from the West and 3,960 were from the Central.

“Wada’s government has 18 Commissioners out of which 9 are from the East, 5 West and 4 Central.

“60 Special Advisers with a whopping 30 from his home area, the East while the West and Central have 20 and 10 respectively.

“Wada’s government has 83 Senior Special Assistants out of which 41-50% are from the East, 26-31.1% from the West and 16-19.1% from the Central.

“Of Governor Wada’s 242 Special Assistants, 139 are from the East, 66 from the West and 37 from Central.” He stated.

He added, “Could this be somebody’s idea of justice, fairness and equitable distribution? Could this be the opposite of marginalization?

“Of the 32 Permanent Secretaries, 24-75% are from the East while the West and Central share 4 or 12.5% each.
“The State has 25 Board Chairmen comprising 14-56% from the East, 8-32% from the West and 3-12% from Central.

“The present government of Kogi State headed by Capt Idris Wada has a Civil Service of 18,650 which breaks down as follows: 10,393 approx 56% from the East, 4,977-27% from the West; and 3,280-17% from Central

“On the distribution of road projects, the East has N39.3billion for about 476.6kilomretres, the West N21.9billion for 209-kilometres, while Central has a paltry N3.3billion for 62kilometres. It is however an irony that despite these figures, one cannot see a translation of them in action.

“Among several others, since the inception of the State, there are positions in the State government which seem to have been exclusively reserved for the East, Igalas. Among which are:

“Head of Service; Commissioner for Works; Commissioner for Health; Permanent Secretary, Government House; Accountant General (except once); Commissioner for Education (except twice) Chairman State Universal Basic Education, Chairman, Local Government Service Commission; among others.”

Over time, The Central and West Senatorial Districts have laid the golden egg; the East sits comfortably to feast on it to its advantage.

The end of the struggle to liberate the egg layers is here and now.

However, the Central and East alliance is determined to witness a power shift from the East to salvage its people and is bent on producing the next Governor of the state for the November 21 polls.

PoliticsCan Buhari Bite The Finger That Fed Him? – Former CBN Governor by salterswan(op): 7:39pm On Aug 04, 2015
As President Muhammadu Buhari finally resurrects the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFFC, to clamp down on fraudulent individuals, the question about if he would prosecute his friends and associates continue to compromise the sincerity of his anti-corruption campaign.

Buhari has already initiated plans to investigate Ministers and appointees of his predecessor as well as the Nigerian civil service. He has publicly claimed he has no intentions of sparing any sacred cows even if found in his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC. This was revealed during an interview on CNN where he reaffirmed total commitment in to making his anti-corruption campaign all inclusive.

“It is not the issue of party members. If you have stolen, no party member can escape justice,”
Reacting to this, a former Deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Obadiah Mailafia during an Interview aired on AIT’s “Money Show” insisted that Buhari cannot bite the fingers that fed him, adding that Buhari’s corruption fight can never be targeted at those who financed his campaigns during the election.

“Some of the people fingered in corruption come from the states that supported him during the election and even finance his campaign, I don’t expect him to wake up one day and start chasing them.”
“In the African culture, you don’t bite the finger that gave you milk, you cannot do it. You have to find the most civilized way of handling such cases”

“Your mother is giving you breast milk as a baby and then you bite her, that is not African.”. Read more here: http://www.post-nigeria.com/corruption-can-buhari-bite-the-finger-that-fed-him-former-cbn-governor/
PoliticsRevealed: Why Senate Screened Service Chiefs In Secret by salterswan(op): 5:59pm On Aug 04, 2015
The Senate has finally screened and confirmed the Service Chiefs that were newly appointed by President Muhamamdu Buhari.

The Senate had chosen to screen the security chiefs behind closed doors on Tuesday.

The closed-session which started at about 11:25am lasted for four hours.

Buhari on July 13, announced the appointment of Major General Abayomi Olonishakin, Chief of Defence Staff; Major General Tukur Buratai, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, Chief of Naval Staff; Air Vice-Marshal Sadique Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff; and Air Vice-Marchal Monday Morgan as Chief of Defence Intelligence.

Buhari also appointed Retired Major General Babagana Monguno as National Security Adviser.

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki congratulated the newly appointed Chiefs adding that the appointment came in due time when insurgency had reached its peak.

“It’s clear that their appointment is based on merit and their presence before us today.
“The appointment as we all see, is coming at a very crucial time with a lot of challenges particularly insurgency in North east and some of the other security issues, for example, the issue of oil theft when they came before us.

“We hope that during the period of time, their performance will take off the responsibility required”, he said.

Saraki also expressed confidence in them to provide a new direction and leadership to the armed forces.

“We are all keen to restore the image and reputation of the armed forces.
“I believe that their confirmation is the beginning of their journey to restore the glory of the Armed Force in our great nation.

He emphasised that the Armed Forces also needed to fine tune the procurement procedures in the Armed Forces and must work hard to root out corruption.

Saraki last Wednesday read Buhari’s letter seeking the confirmation of the upper chamber for the appointment of new Service Chiefs, during plenary.

He had said that the letter to confirm the appointments was in accordance with the provisions of Section18 (1) of the Armed Forces Act, 2004.

Experts disclosed that that ‎the Senate made the screening closed owing to the sensitive security questions that the Service Chiefs would answer that is not meant for public consumption.

Also, the current security challenges in the Northeast and other parts of the country dominated the subject of the screening that was held behind closed doors.

PoliticsHallibuton Scandal: IBB, Obj, Abdulsalami Deny Threat To Expose Buhari’s NNPC Sc by salterswan(op): 3:22pm On Aug 03, 2015
As the overly glorified tales of Government probes beckon, reports making the rounds on social media and online blogs have been found to be false.

These tales suggesting that some retired Nigerian Army Generals and former Heads of State of Nigeria, forced and arm twisted President Muhammadu Buhari to only probe the immediate past administration for corrupt practices, have been exposed as mere fallacies.

A website belonging to Cable Network News, CNN, ireport.cnn.com, had last week carried a story which was also parroted by some online media platforms, that Buhari had before his departure on a 4-day working visit to the United States of America given an order that the Haliburton bribery scandal be re-opened.

The 1994 Haliburton bribery scandal had indicted top Military brass including former Heads of State, and a former Vice-President of Nigeria.

It was reported that they collected billions of US dollars as bribes for the award of the Haliburton bribery scandal in 1994.

The former US Vice President Dick Cheney who used his company, Haliburton for the illegal deal was indicted by Nigeria in 2010.

However, according to the report last week, the presidential order to re-open the Haliburton case made the trio of Babaginda, Obasanjo and Abubakar,to convene an emergency meeting after which Babaginda was mandated to inform Buhari of their intentions to expose his corrupt practices during his time as the Minister of Petroleum Resources as well as the PTDF Chairman.

The report boldly claimed that the former Heads of State were privy to the $20 billions that mysteriously disappeared from the coffers of the NNPC right under Buhari’s nose.

In the false report, Babangida’s media aide, Kassim Afegbua had allegedly released a statement, cautioning Buhari on the consequences of probing the administrations before Jonathan’s.

However, POST NIGERIA’s investigations have revealed that no such meeting held, neither was such a statement issued.

When we contacted Afegbua, he debunked the report completely, pointing out correctly, that the statement was issued on August 28 2012.

Afegbua who now works with the Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, implored readers to ignore such reports which he said emanated from “lazy, unintelligent, busy bodies who throw up stale news to be relevant”.

The report went further to claim the US had told Buhari to reopen the Hallibuton bribery scandal and bring the perpetrators to book or risk losing out on over $150 illegally stashed away in foreign banks by Nigerians.

When POST NIGERIA contacted the presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, he also debunked the report, saying “no such thing happened”. Read more on what Obasanjo said; http://www.post-nigeria.com/hallibuton-scandal-ibb-obj-abdulsalami-deny-threat-to-expose-buharis-nnpc-scandal/
PoliticsGbajabiamila’s Emergence Does Not End House Crisis – Hon. Odeneye by salterswan(op): 11:49pm On Aug 02, 2015
http://www.post-nigeria.com/gbajabiamilas-emergence-does-not-end-house-crisis-hon-odeneye/

Hon. Kehinde Odeneye representing Ijebuode, Odogbolo and Ijebu North-East of Ogun state has said that the emergence of Femi Gbajabiamila does not mark an end to the crisis in the House.

He disclosed in an interview with newsmen in Abuja on Sunday, stating that although his emergence was welcome, it could not bury all the misunderstandings that had arisen during the tussle.

Odeneye expressed regret on why the crisis erupted in the first place.

“Unfortunately, if we had known that this is where we are going, we should not have started the crisis in the first place.

“The emergence of Femi to me is a very good thing in the House of Representatives because of his experience for the fact that he had served as minority leader.

“However, his emergence may not necessarily end the crisis in the House, why I said that is that; before his emergence, there has been a lot of bad blood friends have come against each other.

“This ordinarily would not have been if things had been put in proper perspectives and harmonized.

“His emergence will be the beginning of the end of the crisis but not necessarily the end of the crisis as an immediate thing,” he said
PoliticsPetition: Nigerian Army Insistent On Death Sentence by salterswan(op): 11:39pm On Aug 02, 2015
Despite the barrage of petitions for the reversal of death sentences handed out to soldiers, the Army is still determined to punish those found guilty.

This is coming against reports of an ongoing review of the army’s administrative and disciplinary cases which has already given credence to total dismissal of all mutiny cases.

The Nigerian Army has already initiated proceedings for the prosecution of a total of 579 officers and soldiers for offences bordering on professional misconduct and indiscipline especially in the fight against Boko haram. http://www.post-nigeria.com/petition-nigerian-army-insistent-on-death-sentence/

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, reacting to these latest development debunked any insinuations of plans to drop cases of misconduct.

In a statement released by his office, Usman reinstated that the current review should not be mistaken for an outright squashing of cases of mutiny.

”The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a correspondence making the rounds in some media regarding an administrative procedure to review some recent disciplinary cases in the Nigerian Army.”

The army who is currently overwhelmed by petitions from Human rights advocates and civil society organisations noted that those petitions would not deter them form meting punishment to soldiers found guilty for various offences
PoliticsMinisters: Buhari, A Sole Administrator Without Direction – Expert by salterswan(op): 5:38pm On Aug 01, 2015
As the economy continues to grapple with the adverse effects of an absent tacit policy response from President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, most financial analysts have described his two month old administration as an indication of his plans to become the sole administrator of the Nigerian economy.

Dr Katch Ononuju, an Abuja based erudite economist, in an exclusive interview with POST NIGERIA expressed suspicion over Buhari’s continuous neglect of economic matters since he took over power on May 29th 2015, describing it as a form of Totalitarianism.

He added that the past two months of the current administration have exposed poor economic skills and therefore advised that he (Buhari) immediately constitutes his economic team before leading the economy into recession.

“We have a situation where we haven’t had a Government for two months because there is no economic direction.
“Buhari is now the sole operator of the economy. He has been running the economy without giving any economic direction.”

Even when an economy is at its peak of progress, it becomes necessary to have an economic direction talk more of a time when Nigeria is in a critical situation of managing dwindling revenues.

Buhari seems unaware of this, expressing a lack of interest in marshalling out an economic blueprint to better the lot of the ordinary Nigerian.

Ononuju who has advocated for the removal of fuel subsidy had earlier doubted Buhari understands the economy when he approved a bailout for indebted States without confining it to strict conditionality of fiscal responsibility.

He said this was a sign of inconsistency bearing in mind his earlier claim of an empty treasury. It could be recalled that upon taking over power, Buhari had claimed that his predecessor had left a near empty treasury. PoliticsHow Mark Ran The 7th Senate Like A “beer Joint” – Ndume by salterswan(op): 4:31pm On Aug 01, 2015
Senate Majority Leader, Mohammad Ali Ndume has attacked former Senate President David Mark saying that the Mark ran the 7th Senate as a beer parlour joint where everyone engaged in frivolous discussion in the hallowed chamber.

Speaking with National Assembly correspondents in his office, he stressed that during Mark’s tenure, the plenary lacked all sense of decorum and many Senators talked at a time.

Speaking Ndume said: “I’m sorry to say this; the 7th Senate, when conducting proceedings used to be like beer parlour discussions where everybody talks anyhow.”

He stated that the current Senate would be different and would do things differently so as to support government in effecting changes that it promised Nigerians.

SportsRevealed: Coach Oliseh’s First Eagles XI by salterswan(op): 6:04pm On Jul 31, 2015
Not long after Sunday Oliseh was unveiled as the new Super Eagles coach at the media centre of The National Stadium in Abuja he laid down the law over who was eligible to be on his team sheets.

Oliseh clearly affirmed that “No player outside of the first division in Nigeria or elsewhere will play for the Super Eagles”, makes Eagles spots open to only 1st division players globally.

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, President, Amaju Pinnick however disclosed that Oliseh had a list of 70 Nigerian players who were unknown and uncapped.

It is already being speculated that the former Dortmund midfielder’s first team sheet will be one that will surprise a few but how many shockers can there be judging by his comments clarifying his statements?

o doubt, Vincent Enyeama, of Lille, remains the best option between the sticks Nigeria has for now. His experience in the national team, exposure in Europe and the Champion’s League place him as perhaps Nigeria’s most equipped player currently. The 32 years old stopper is quick, reads the game and has ability to control, organize and stabilize the defence.

The confirmation of his place as the number one was sealed after Oliseh recently disclosed that the former Enyimba goalie will remain the Captain of the Eagles.

Defenders

Leon Balogun, FSV Mainz 05, German Bundesliga, 27: The German-born Nigerian has the height, strength, good passes and discipline as an advantage, his strength, good pass as an advantage. His strong tackling and ability to link from defence to the midfield him qualify for the Eagles. Balogun has settled well with the Nigerian team despite being new, meaning he is a good team player and knows how to read the game.

Football - The Football League Sky Bet Championship - Sheffield Wednesday v Middlesbrough - Saturday 1st March 2014 - Hillsborough - SheffieldKenneth Omeruo, Kasımpaşa, Turkish Süper Lig, 21: The on loan Chelsea youngster is a tough tackling defender, who is good aerially and always gives good cover to the keeper. He is known to cover ground quickly too making him hard to beat as an attacker and has been compared to Real Madrid’s Raphaël Varane. He had a decent season at Middlesbrough in the English Championship last season.

Godfrey Oboabona, Rizespor, Turkish Süper Lig, 24: the burly defender plying his trade in Turkey is known for his typically strong displays. He received rave reviews for his performance which kept Italy’s Mario Balotelli out of the game when they both met. Not only is he good aerially, his number of completed tackles-per-match is quite impressive.

The tall defender’s work rate at the Nigerian defence has been a heartwarming experience with his exceptional ability to read the game and ball passing ability.

Elderson Echejiele, AS Monaco, French Ligue 1, 27: The former Braga fullback has been in and out of the side but is fast becoming a dependable member of the Eagles side.

His solidity and ability to support attacks up front makes him a solid option for Oliseh as long as he can beat off the challenge from the young Kingsley Madu who had an impressive outing against Chad in Kaduna.

Midfielders

Mikel Obi, Chelsea, English Premiership, 28: A controversial player for a myriad of reasons, Mikel does have one skill albeit typical of a one trick pony. The ability to hold on to the ball better than any other Eagles player sets him apart despite his infuriating sluggishness sometimes.

Considering Oliseh tends towards a possession based style Mikel might still be an asset despite his tragically unfulfilled potential.

onazi-eaglesOgenyi Onazi, Lazio, Italian Serie A, 22: The Nigerian prodigy is one of the most consistent shooters in the Nigeria team, add that to his boundless energy and you have a midfield dynamo of epic proportions.

Onazi breaks up play, retains possession and is not scared to attempt to attack the opposition box every now and there, the hallmarks of the modern defensive midfielder. Being a former defensive midfielder himself, Oliseh would by all means be grateful to have such a battleaxe at his disposal.

Peter Odemwingie, Stoke City, English Premiership, 34: The experienced forward, winger and playmaker has had his fair share of controversy (just like the current Eagles boss) but he still remains a player with guile and some experience the Eagles could use right now.

He still has a few goals left in him and his link up play when he’s fit is a joy to behold. His ability to create chances and play versatile roles is no doubt an asset to the Eagles.

Victor Moses, Chelsea, English Premiership, 24: Oliseh has stated clearly that any striker without pace cannot feature for the Eagles. Outside Moses there are very few Nigerians who are faster. The Chelsea forward can be explosive enough to stun various backlines and he packs a bulky frame which is always a defender’s nightmare. Oliseh will find his ability to terrorise defences and his pace useful.

PoliticsBailout: We Were Warned About Rainy Days – Peter Obi by salterswan(op): 4:01pm On Jul 31, 2015
The critical situation of indebtedness of most states in Nigeria has become a growing concern to most Nigerians. This is coming after States were unable to pay the salaries of their workers for more than 9 months in some cases.

Against the backdrop of this horrific trend, the former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi has revealed that they were all warned about saving for the rainy day, or in other words the Governors were advised to eschew fiscal irresponsibility which was a bane to economic development.

In an interview with journalists, Obi gave clarifications on the recent bail out approved for States from the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Company, NLNG dividends by President Muhammadu Buhari and the rationale behind the creation of the Excess Crude Account, ECA, as well as the Sovereign Wealth Fund, SWF.

He also revealed that during his tenure as a Governor the former Finance Minister, Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala was persistent in advancing for the cause of saving for the rainy day.

“I have read newspaper reports that it is ironic that she spoke of a rainy day when it was already pouring.
“I personally remain indebted to her because it was from her persistent preaching on the need to save in the Sovereign National Wealth Fund that made me incorporate savings in foreign currency that is why one third of the money we left on leaving office was in foreign currency, $156 million(N25 billion at that time).

“With interest now it would be about $170 million and with the current rate it is almost N40 billion.”

Civil servants in the country especially in Osun State have been owed salaries for up to eight months by the Rauf Aregbesola led Government, which has led to untold hardship.

Aregbesola had disclosed that his hands were tied, adding that there was nothing he could do since the banks had decided to stop lending him funds. Read more here: http://www.post-nigeria.com/bailout-we-were-warned-about-rainy-days-peter-obi/
PoliticsMetuh Fears Arrest, Declines To Produce Daura’s APC Card by salterswan(op): 1:06pm On Jul 31, 2015
The National Publicity Secretary of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olisah Metuh has raised alarm over a plot by the All Progressives Congress, APC, intended to end up in his arrest.

This was in response to calls made by the APC for him to provide the APC membership card of the newly appointed Director of Department of State Security Service, DSS, Daura Lawal.

Metuh made this shocking revelation, Friday, during an interactive session on African Independent Television, AIT, maintained that Daura was sympathetic to the ruling APC, and had within 48 hours of his appointment, invaded houses, clamped down on the opposition and recklessly intimidating electoral officers to implicate the PDP.

The shocking pictorial evidence produced by the PDP on Thursday to giving credence to the allegation that Daura was a member of the APC made the party throw up an open challenge requesting Metuh to produce his (Daura’s) APC membership card as evidence.

The National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Lai Mohammed earlier denied that Daura did not have any link with the party, Friday, shifted ground asking Metuh to produce the membership card of the DSS boss.

Metuh in response stated that he cannot confront the DSS boss who has a penchant for arresting oppositions.

“How can Lai Mohammed tell me to produce the APC membership card of Lawal Daura, Do you want me to be arrested and detained?
“This is a man given the marching order to clampdown on opposition.

“Do you know that within 48 hours of his appointment, he invaded houses and detained people indiscriminately without due process?

“You want me to get the card of a man who is locking people up; does the APC want Daura to detain me?” Metuh who almost lost his emotion said. Read more here: http://www.post-nigeria.com/metuh-fears-arrest-declines-to-produce-dauras-apc-card/
PoliticsRefineries, Rail Projects, Polio, Nigerians Blast Buhari by salterswan(op): 6:04pm On Jul 29, 2015
Nigerians have begun to criticize President Muhammadu Buhari for taking credit for the recent feat in the rehabilitation of refineries, railway projects and the eradication of polio in Nigeria.

Tunde Okoli, who spoke to Post Nigeria said “Turn around maintenance of refineries (old and archaic ones like we have for that matter) is not a day’s job.

“Perhaps, you guys want to claim GMB already put the refurbishing of the refineries in motion since 2014 when he, obviously was still contemplating what future awaits his political career when the opposition coalition that brought him to power was still in the making.
“That was how one goon listed the man’s statutory roles as “achievements” in a post barely two week ago and ended up labeling Buhari ‘SUPERMAN.’ Can you imagine that buffoonery?”

Adain said “The turn-around-maintenance has been on for some time. We did not just want to make any noise about it…

“When GEJ was in, they didn’t want to make noise about it. This made GEJ to look like he wasn’t doing anything. Suddenly, Buhari began ‘making noise about it.’
“Jonathan wanted to surprise Nigerians upon completion of the overhaul process?

“What we need is the change you promised, consolidate on the achievement and stop taking credit, you cannot reap were you have not sown.”

To most analysts, President Goodluck Jonathan’s name will be written in gold for his administration’s pragmatic efforts in reviving the Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, which has been comatose for nearly 30 years.

Some of the listed rails under construction and will soon be commissioned are 322km Lagos-Benin City line, 500km Benin-Abakiliki line, 673km Benin-Obudu Cattle Ranch line, 615km Lagos-Abuja high speed line, 520km Zaria-Birnin- Koni line, 533km Ega nyi-Otukpo and the Ega nyi-Abuja line.

Presently, you can now travel by rail from Lagos to Kano; Enugu to Port-Harcourt to Makurdi, to Jos, to Bauchi and Gombe.

It is projected that 700,000 passengers will ride the Abuja Light Rail, ALR, on a daily basis, courtesy Jonathan when the first phase of the project takes off soon.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have called on Buhari to get ready to be probed as soon as he leaves office.

A lawmaker representing Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo, Ebonyi State Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Linus Okorie reminded Buhari of the Natural law of “what goes around comes around,” stressing that if Buhari decides to be unfair to his predecessor, he should expect similar treatment from his successor. PoliticsBoko Haram Targets Buratai With Second Hometown Attack by salterswan(op): 4:55pm On Jul 29, 2015
Boko Haram insurgents on Monday, in a stern response to Nigeria’s Army Chief, Tukur Buratai, launched a second attack on his home town since he was announced by President Muhammadu Buhari.

This attack on Buratai’s home town would be the fourth since February 2014, PRNigeria reported.

This is coming as President Buhari plans to visit Cameroon on July 29 for talks with his counterpart President Paul Biya.

The duo are expected to talk on the best strategies to end the regional threat posed by the insurgent gang. This was made known by the President’s spokesman, Femi Adesina.

“President Buhari is going to Cameroon on Wednesday. He will hold talks with President Biya on arrival on Wednesday and the issue of Boko Haram will be central in their discussion.”
This would be Buhari’s 7th foreign trip outside Nigeria since he got into office on May 29, 2015 and the spates of attacks from the insurgents have been increasing.

Nigerians now appear dismayed at the correlation between his foreign trips and providing a solution to stopping the attacks.

Against the continuous attacks in Borno and especially on Buratai’s hometown, he vowed to engage the sect in an offensive disposition to eradicate them from the country.

“We must take the battle to them and dislodge them wherever they are.
“In line with these, we must learn to adopt offensive disposition and respond quickly and appropriately to all situations, taking into cognizance our rules of engagement.

“In view of our current challenges, our primary assignment in contributing our quota to national service is in line with my vision to strive towards eradicating the menace of terrorism from our nation.”

Two days after this remark, the insurgents staged a deadly attack on the community, killing two people and destroying homes including Buratai’s family home, in an attempt to seize the town.

An eye witness Mr Usman who spoke to journalist explained that the latest attack was completely out of tune with their modus operandi saying the insurgents had to reinforce to lay siege on Buratai home town early on Tuesday July 28, 2015.

“The latest attack was somewhat different. Read more from the eyewitness here: http://www.post-nigeria.com/boko-haram-targets-buratai-with-second-hometown-attack/
PoliticsKogi Poll: Self-proclaimed Messiah Audu, Asked To Step Down by salterswan(op): 2:54pm On Jul 29, 2015
Chaos broke out Tuesday, when the Forum for Power Shift of Kogi Central and West visited a former governor, and aspirant under the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prince Abubakar Audu at his residence in the Aso Villa.

What first appeared to POST NIGERIA’s reporter as a call to endorse, quickly escalated to a call to step down.

Audu who felt slighted by the call for him to step down from the contest boasted that he cannot be defeated by any candidate, daring the forum to produce its candidate for the November polls.

It all went south, when Audu stressed that he and he alone remains the “saviour” for Kogi State.

The forum which comprises of the Okun and Ebira people of the State is bent on producing the next governor, after years of what it described as marginalisation by the Igala-led government in the State.

Kogi State has been ruled by the Igala tribe since its inception and the forum blamed the Igala-led government for injustice and suffering it meted out to other tribes, stressing that it was responsible for the underdevelopment of the state.

Audu, Igala by tribe, lavished praise on his past achievements in the state, urging the forum to support his ambition, promising that he will hand over power to the region if he is voted into power, but the forum unanimously refused and insisted he stepped down.

In response to Audi’s claim to be the messiah of the State Dr. Tom Adaba, who is the media person for the forum refuted the claim, insisting that the West and Central also have young people who are capable of doing the job.

His words “He seems to think he is the only one who can rescue and resurrect Kogi State but our contention is he is just playing god. He is not.

“There are many, those who can do more than he thinks he can.
“This impression he has given himself is that he is the only one who can bring the state back to life but we are saying that couldn’t be.

“There are others who may not have been tested but have the impression of making excellent government.

Dr. Adaba noted that the West and the Central came together because of population and vowed to make use of its “protest votes” to achieve what it wants to achieve. “It (the forum) has no regard for parties and politics” Read more here: http://www.post-nigeria.com/kogi-poll-self-proclaimed-messiah-audu-asked-to-step-down/

PoliticsBegin To Crucify Buhari, After 100 Days – Tinubu by salterswan(op): 7:08pm On Jul 28, 2015
National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ahmed Bola Tinubu has said President Muhammadu Buhari should be given the benefit of doubt till at least 100 days in office before branding him ‘Baba go slow’’ adding that the process of promised change is not magical.

Tinubu, speaking with State House correspondents shortly after meeting behind closed-doors with Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday, stated that he decided to visit the Buhari to welcome him from what he described as successful trip to the United States of America and to ensure that the party remained on track.

PoliticsNigerians Lose Hope In Buhari Providing Stable Power – NOI POLLS by salterswan(op): 5:30pm On Jul 28, 2015
Despite claims by the All Progressives Congress, APC, of concrete plans by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to provide constant power supply, a recent poll conducted by NOI POLLS has revealed power supply recorded horrible figures, on account of continuous neglect and poor policy direction in the power and energy sector.

Lai Mohammed the APC spokesman during an interview on Channels TV had denied claims that the APC promised to provide 5000 MW in one year and insisted that what is in their manifesto was to provide only 2000 MW and went on to say that 5000mw was only contained in the APC’s Road map.

This has been interpreted as sending a signal that president Buhari might not deliver on the major promise made to Nigerians especially in the power sector.

The results from a power poll conducted by NOI polls has insisted that despite the promise made by the President to immediately reduce the frustration and pain from erratic power supply, almost 8 in 10 Nigerian Households continue to rely on alternative sources of power as erratic power supply has continued to put more Nigerians in darkness.

The results also confirm that most Nigerians have adapted the use of alternative sources of power such as generators, solar inverters etc. It was affirmed that as Nigerian households continue to grapple with alternative sources of power, the impact has continued to negatively affect their health and income.

PoliticsAPC Blast Tinubu For Using EFCC To Indict Saraki's Wife by salterswan(op): 12:36am On Jul 27, 2015
http://www.post-nigeria.com/tinubu-behind-efcc-plot-to-indict-sarakis-wife-apc-chieftain/

Senator Joseph Waku, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and a front-line leader of Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, has accused the national leader of his party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of being the mastermind behind Senator Bukola Saraki’s wife’s invitation to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over cases of financial misappropriation.

Waku, disclosed that Tinubu was the brain behind EFCC’s ”baseless petition” against Toyin Saraki.

While speaking to journalists in Abuja, he blasted Tinubu for using his personal and friendly relationship with the EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Lamorde to disgrace and tarnish the image of a senior member of his party as well as overheat the polity.

”I have chosen to speak out on this issue and make my findings on this issue known to the public.”

”After days of painstaking enquiries, I discovered that both Tinubu and Lamorde maintain a mutually beneficial relationship since the days of Lamorde as the EFCC Director of Operations and when he was based in Lagos between 2003 and 2007 when Tinubu was equally the Governor of Lagos.

“I also discovered from my findings in EFCC that the so called petition against Mrs Saraki was personally given to Lamorde by Tinubu under the guise that he was submitting the petition on behalf of the APC leadership to punish Saraki for working against the party’s leadership on the choice of National Assembly leaders.

“This was followed by a promise to help secure a second term for Lamorde as EFCC Chairman.”

Waku also condemned the use of an independent institution like the EFCC to settle political grievances which is a clear departure from the proclaimed ‘change’ mantra Tinubu and the APC proclaimed prior to the election.

He further cautioned his party members to refrain from dragging the name of the President into the current leadership crisis.

”I want to use this opportunity to caution our leaders that no individual’s ambition to create a fiefdom for himself should be allowed to drag our party into unnecessary controversies and endlessly overheat the polity.’
PoliticsNigerians Voted Change, Not Acts Of Masturbation, Iwuanyanwu Tells Buhari by salterswan(op): 4:22pm On Jul 25, 2015
Known for his blunt and never compromising attitude to issues in the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Chyna Iwuanyanwu, says for PDP to survive, all its current leadership must resign for a new order to be instilled. He further describes how impunity and lack of internal democracy cost the party the general elections. He spoke to STANLEY NKWOCHA

Your party said they will rule Nigeria for 60 years and suddenly crashed after 16 years on the saddle. What happened?

I speak to you as a genuine patriotic Nigerian, because, Nigeria is more important to me than any political party. And you have to be a Nigerian first before you can be PDP a chieftain or APC chieftain.

The truth of the matter is that PDP had all the opportunities in the world to drive the democratic process and provide Nigeria with purpose -driven leadership, for even 100years. If you check the foundation of the party, a group of genuinely patriotic Nigerians from across the country came together to confront a most vicious military government in order to bring democracy and promote the ideals of unity and progress. Along the line, that vision was derailed or rather corrupted, so the loss from 60 years to 16 years didn’t come to some of us as sudden; we saw it progressively coming.

The cardinal principle upon which PDP was formed is zoning. When Yar’Adua died, some of us felt that the North should be allowed to complete their tenure. Of course we were overuled, called rebels and all sort of names. And you can’t shut down any part of this country from power. We believed that zoning provided opportunity for access, and anything that happened to zoning will scuttle the unity of this country and threaten stability and development.

When Jonathan became president, we thought there was an agreement for one term to complete Yar’Adua’s tenure. But as we were doing that, we were losing people, particularly from one section of the country. That’s why when I hear that there is a conspiracy of the north, I laugh it off as after all, politics is about conspiracy, and it’s a game of interest. So basically, our loss didn’t come to me as a surprise.

We were part of the last national convention. The basic tenets of democracy were not upheld anymore, because there was more impunity, imposition and all that. So it didn’t come as a surprise, what you sow is what you reap, garbage in garbage out.

At a point, PDP was being run like a business enterprise by some board of directors and ownership being played out. Instead of Peoples Democratic Party, we now had the Democratic Party without the people. So the people started looking elsewhere and ran into this ‘changeless change’ we now have. But it was inevitable as some of us saw it coming. It’s only those who perpetrated the atrocities within PDP that should be responsible for what happened to us.

What atrocities specifically?

There was impunity, manipulation and imposition of candidates against the popular will of the people. The people were not allowed to choose. Abuja will sit and decide who is a counsellor, local government chairman. National convention cannot be held, the result is known and people adopted for offices, while others were allowed to run around town and waste their time while their names are excluded in phony manners. Internally, there was no democracy and Nigerians saw it.

Democracy is about the people and once the people feel that you are not carrying them along but moving against their interest, of course they will go for a change, whatever that means.

Can the party redeem itself now?

Well, yes! What we need now is not just the cosmetic or symbolic removal of national chairman or the BoT but what we need is a total re-engineering, overhaul and re-branding of the party, to inject new people, so that they can bring new ideas. But as long as it is these same people who have held the party hostage and brought the party on its knees (they are the ones reviewing the party and want to hold congress), then it will not work. We need to bring on board a lot of people who are disconnected and completely eliminated. Amongst 170 million people, you can’t come to a situation where 50 or 60 people are ruling a patriotic party.

In clear cut terms, can we get your model for redeeming the PDP?

I think that the whole national executives should resign and the executives should do a proper congress up to the national convention, so that the will of the people will prevail. Let people choose their leaders. Secondly, the board of trustees are supposed to be the conscience of the party and there are so many people who are there that have no business being there at all. In any case, some of them have left to other political parties. So I think we should re-energise and bring in credible people, men of honour and integrity, who have the capacity to act as the conscience of the party into the BoT. A situation where a member of the board of trustees is contesting for the senate is a conflict. Who would we run to when there is a conflict with other candidates? A situation where a member of the board of trustees is a member of the national executives amounts to duplication if there is any issue, the person takes undue advantage. So a BOT should be a platform for the creme de la creme and compose of the founding fathers and the embodiment of the vision of the PDP, so that other people can also take other positions.

If we change the BOT, change the leadership, from ward to the national level, then we look into our manifesto and make it more populist. The political climate is changing. In 1999, the mantra was let the military go, right now, the people are asking for the dividends of democracy and it must be seen in the manifesto.

As you advocate for some of these changes, the crisis in Anambra and Kogi PDP does not suggest change on the part of the party does it?

I am totally disappointed that anybody wants to go to any state and be doing congress or convention now. Once the head is rotten, the body follows, it’s the same syndrome. So what we are asking for is that there should be a committee set up to review the party. I have no confidence in the previous committee and I have said it before, because it is the same people that have held the party hostage that are members of that committee. They should ask people across what went wrong and we will tell them. Not those who inflicted the wrong, it’s like being the judge in your own case, it cannot work. That is why they have the audacity and impunity to be talking about congress. No, we have to first put our house in order, get a template to find out where we went wrong, ask our people questions and then develop a blueprint. There has to be a roadmap. It’s not selecting Anambra today, Imo tomorrow by the same people. If we continue what we were doing with the same people, we will get the same results, that’s my fear.

Two months down the line, what do you make of Buhari’s presidency?

Well I think there was an overwhelming clamour for change, and I had warned that change for the sake of change is not it. If we are going to change for the better, then it’s good for us. I have also said that the only good thing about APC, is the pedigree of Buhari and Osibanjo. Every other person in the APC is like another PDP member. And two trees cannot make a forest in a population of 170 million people. So what you are seeing now is Buhari trying to grapple with the issue of leadership, he wasn’t prepared as far as I am concerned. For instance, what they called merger, if they have truly merged, this fragmentation within the party of CPC tendency, new PDP and others which is manifesting now would not have been there. So there was a conspiracy and not a merger. If we merge, then the identities of the merging entities will diminish, but that is not the siuation now. What we are seeing now, is a contention within APC, to show you that there was no merger. It will take some time before it settles. But Nigerians voted for change and they are in a hurry. There is an urgent need for that change, not the masturbation of “I reduce my salaries” or symbolisms of “I didn’t buy new cars”. What about your allowances? What about security votes that runs into 500 million naira a month? Why don’t you talk about that one rather than a salary of 7 to 12 million?

We have to go for the real thing. I trust that Buhari has the pedigree and the capacity, but it’s not all about one person. He has to engage people who share his vision and that’s where the problem lies.

Let’s talk about your state – Imo State. Again your party got its nose bruised at the last gubernatorial election in the state. Is it res judicata for the PDP in Imo State?

I can tell you that I was involved in the entire election in Imo State. Imo is a PDP state, but the culture of impunity and this business template is the problem. What I saw was satanic extortion in the name of primaries. A kind of ‘Those who have money can buy, highest bidder situation’ where they were not thinking about win ability, integrity or acceptability. They just collected money from somebody and announced the person as a candidate. The corruption in the system is what the problem is and I think everybody is on the ground now. Formally, they will lose and then come to Jonathan at the federal level and be eating, now they have been shut out at Abuja, they’ve been shut out in Imo state, so they are forced to think now. I can tell you that there is thinking going on. Imo is a PDP state and for as long as they don’t do it right, they will continue to lose during the election. But the flesh is somewhere else and the spirit is somewhere else. In spirit, Imo is a PDP state.

PoliticsZakari Unqualified For INEC Chair – Human Rights Lawyer by salterswan(op): 12:15pm On Jul 25, 2015
Lagos based lawyer and human rights activist, Ebun Olu Adegboruwa has asked a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos to nullify the appointment of Amina Bala Zakari the Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on the basis of flagrant infringement of the 1999 constitution.

Adegboruwa insisted that Zakari’s initial appointment as an INEC Commissioner had expired on July 21, 2015 and by law could not be extended by a letter of appointment from the Head of civil service of the federation without confirmation from the Senate.

His suit marked as No. FHC/L/CS/1114/2015 was pursuant to Section 154 (1), (3), 155 (1)C, 157 & 162 of the 199 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and joined as respondents to the suit President Muhammad Buhari, the Attorney General of the Federation and INEC.

In Adegboruwa’s affidavit, it was stated that Zakari was not qualified to claim to be acting INEC Chairman as her appointment was a clear violation of the extant laws as contained in the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria.

“Consequently therefore, the presence of Mrs. Zakari in INEC is a constitutional aberration that must not be allowed to continue.”
On June 30, 2015 Zakari was appointed as the Acting chairman of INEC, in an arrangement believed to be untidy which saw the erstwhile INEC boss on the same day handing over to a more senior Commissioner in the person of Ambassador Mohammad Wali.

The fallout of this untidy exercise has aroused concerns about the level of undue interference Buhari could already have on the independence of a body like INEC which is expected to be neutral and free from interference.

Against this background, Adegboruwa’s motion which is supported by a 36-paragraph affidavit in support of the application stated that Zakari is not qualified to claim to be acting chairman of INEC as she was not appointed in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution. PoliticsEkweremadu Is A Treacherous, Meddlesome Interloper – APC Chieftain by salterswan(op): 6:03pm On Jul 24, 2015
The plot to remove Ike Ekweremadu as the Deputy Senate President by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has continued to take diverse dimensions as a S/East chieftain of the party Lorencia Uzoamaka Onyema has described Ekweremadu as a “meddlesome interloper” who is guilty of “bloody treachery.”

Onyema made this known during an interview on AIT’s Focus Nigeria where she blasted Ekweremadu for daring to contest for the position of the Deputy Senate President and demanded he tenders his resignation.

“The Deputy Senate President is not compensation to the S/East because he is one spare tire and a meddlesome interloper who ab initio should not be there.
“I cannot accept the fact that somebody who is not our party member should come and take such a juicy position.

“If there was any man in the Senate that should show such affront and bloody treachery to claim for the deputy senate president should have been David mark, but he didn’t.”

Chief John Oyegun, the national chairman of the APC had previously called for Ekweremadu’s resignation stating that the APC would be “very, very glad” if he resigns.

“If he wants to resign, we would be very very glad, but for now, as at today, our mission is to get the senate settled to get them at work. We are in charge; we are in control,” he said at the time.
Senators of the Unity forum who are loyal to Senator Ahmad Lawan, the preferred APC candidate for the Senate Presidency, had insisted that Ekweremadu’s resignation was one of the conditions that would make the faction to recognize Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President.

Following the leadership struggle between Saraki and Lawan, Onyema believes that her zone merited the position of the Senate President but regretted the defeat of all the APC senatorial candidates who lost during the elections. PoliticsPDP Mistook Lilliputians, Dwarfs For Underaged Voters – APC by salterswan(op): 3:56pm On Jul 24, 2015
In a bid to rubbish reports that the All Progressives Congress, APC, mobilised the underaged to vote in the last general election, the leadership of the party on Friday said that the children seen on camera and various social media platforms with voters cards where mostly Lilliputians and midgets.

Speaking on behalf of the APC on African Independent Television, AIT, on a programme “Focus Nigeria” Lorencia Oyeama disclosed that Nigerians might have mistaken dwarfs, people of short stature as under aged voters.

Oyeama further congratulated the north for massively voting for President Muhammadu Buhari despite the fact he was totally rejected in the south-east geopolitical zone.

The Deputy National Chairman of PDP, Uche Secondus, had after the 2015 general election, listed the seven affected states as Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Katsina and Kogi States, adding that based on concrete facts collated by the party’s field agents, majority of voters in the aforementioned states were in fact underaged. PoliticsSaraki, Ekweremadi Set To Be Impeached by salterswan(op): 1:25pm On Jul 24, 2015
Some aggrieved Senators on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have vowed that embattled Senate President Bukola Saraki and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu as well as the other controversial principal holders would be impeached next week when the House resumes.

Senator Kabiru Marafa who stated this on behalf of Pro-Lawan legislators stressed that impeachment beckons on Tuesday, July 28; adding that Saraki and Ekweremadu were occupying illegal offices and would soon be swept out.

Marafa in an exclusive interview with Post Nigeria lamented that the clandestine alteration was carried out and criminally smuggled in by fifth columnists in a deliberate attempt to sabotage the activities of the President, Muhammadu Buhari in order to slow down governance.

Marafa who first raised this on the floor of the House just a day after the inauguration of the 8th Senate pointed that he was actively part of the 7th Senate and at no point did the amendment of the Senate standing order surface on the floor of the house as stated in Order 110.

He cited Order 110 and 3 (e1), “Any Senator desiring to amend any part of the rule shall give reason and write to the President of the Senate after which the process of amending the relevant section will be done.”

Speaking with journalists during an interactive session Marafa disclosed ‘‘in my opinion, corruption does not stop at stealing money alone. The standing order was forged.

“There was no record of amending the standing order in the Seventh Senate, I was an active member of the Seventh Senate and there was no record of any amendments. Hence, the action must be duly investigated to know who did what and why?”
On the basis of Marafa’s claims, Senator Suleiman Othoman Hunkuyi had approached the Police calling for their intervention on the alleged forgery of the Senate Standing Order which prompted them to storm the National Assembly to obtain information from relevant officials and lawmakers.

Senator Hunkuyi told the Police that the “So called new Standing Order purports to allow for secret instead of the open ballot system that has been prevalent in all Senate elections as permitted by the extant rules. http://www.post-nigeria.com/saraki-ekweremadi-set-to-be-impeached/

Ijaw Youths, under the auspices of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Worldwide has faulted President Muhammadu Buhari for giving credit to the President of United States of America, USA, Barrack Obama for the successful conduct of the 2015 general election instead of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

IYC, President, Udengs Eradiri, who spoke at a news conference in Yenagoa on Thursday after a meeting of executives of the body, disclosed that the political class in the country worked by instituting a free, fair and credible electoral process.

Buhari praised the U.S. Government for mounting pressure on Jonathan to ensure that Nigeria conducted a credible 2015 general elections.

The President who was speaking in a joint press conference he had with President Obama in the Oval Office on Monday had recalled the visits of the American Secretary of State to Nigeria prior to the elections, saying that but for such pressure, Nigeria might not have been where it is democratically.

PoliticsLeahy Law: Buhari Returns Home Empty-handed by salterswan(op): 5:12pm On Jul 23, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari at about 5am on Thursday 23rd of July arrived in Nigeria following his four-day official visit to the United States.

He was accompanied by a 33 man official entourage including his son, Yusuf Buhari.

On Wednesday while delivering a lecture at the United States Institute for Peace, USIP, in Washington DC, U.S.A, Buhari said the United States Leahy Law prohibits the US Department of State and Department of Defense from providing military assistance to foreign military units like Nigeria who allegedly have perpetrated and infringed on human rights with impunity.

“In the face of abduction of innocent school girls from their hostels, indiscriminate bombings of civilians in markets and places of worship, our forces have remained largely impotent because they do not possess the appropriate weapons and technology, which they could have had, had the so-called human rights violations not been an obstacle.
“Unwittingly, and I dare say, unintentionally, the application of the Leahy law amendment by the US government has aided and abetted the Boko Haram terrorist group in the prosecution of its extremist ideology and hate, the indiscriminate killings and maiming of civilians, in raping of women and girls, and in their other heinous crimes.”

The Leahy Law or Leahy Amendment named after its principal sponsor Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont, criminalizes the use of U.S armories to be used in countries that have perpetrated serious human rights abuses such as Bangladesh, Bolivia, Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, Nigeria, Turkey, Indonesia, and Pakistan who have all been denied assistance due to the Leahy amendment. PoliticsKogi APC Torn Apart, Audu Adopted For Polls by salterswan(op): 5:25pm On Jul 22, 2015
There seems to be a worsening split in the Kogi State All Progressives Congress, APC, as a faction of the Kogi Central and the Kogi West Forum have concluded plans to adopt former Governor and Kogi State APC leader, Prince Abubakar Audu to fly the party’s flag in the November governorship polls.

This was disclosed by the group’s spokesman, Abayomi Gbenga Samuel, on July 21 in Lokoja, the State Capital.

The forum had earlier agreed to field a candidate from either the Central or Western regions of the State, as they lamented the marginalization of the two regions by the Eastern region

The State in its 24 years of existence, has only had governors from only Kogi East, which according to the forum, is responsible for the underdevelopment of the State when compared to other States.

Samuel disclosed that against the initial agreement of the forum, the faction discovered that the forum’s leaders were not sincere about power shift but were working for their selfish interest.

He stated that the initial plan of the group had been hijacked by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and could serve as an advantage to return incumbent Governor Idris Wada for a second term.

He observed that the leaders pretend to be working for the people, knowing fully well that the forum’s project of mobilizing the people of Central and West cannot be achieved owing to the limited time at their disposal.

Samuel described Audu as the only candidate out of all aspirants who is more suitable to fly the APC flag against Wada in the coming election.

“We met recently at Reverton Hotel in Lokoja and our members unanimously adopted the former Governor for the incoming elections so that power must shift to West/Central in 2019.
“Our group has members from all the Local Government Areas in Kogi Central and West. We shall communicate our decision to Audu next week”. http://www.post-nigeria.com/kogi-apc-torn-apart-audu-adopted-for-polls/
