ebera: Just for the sake of those that needs enlightenment; I stumbled on the functions of a CMD of a hospital.

''The Chief Medical Director is the
Hospital’s Chief Executive and in that
capacity has responsibility for the day-to-
day management of the entire hospital
under the broad direction of the Board of
Management. The Chief Medical Director
in addition directs responsibility for key
Departments like Accounts and Finance,
Internal Audit, Information and
Communication Technology Unit
(ICT), SERVICOM, Public
Relations, Engineering, Planning,
Security Services. Stores & Supplies, Staff
development, as well as relationship with
external bodies. The statutory role of the
Chief Medical Director is that of an over-
all coordinator of the entire functions of
the hospital. Each Director may be
ascribed specific responsibility for a group
of activities, The Chief Medical Director
has global responsibility even for the
functions assigned to the various
directors.'

Elythron16zero4: I am a pharm but u see i think everyone is important in the health system. The doctors have forgotten that they use drugs to treat patients or does their training include drug productions. If in the World today all pharms stop producing drugs, what alternative is left with the doctors to use? Herbs? when they are not native doctors. come to think of it if all us studies medicine and become doctors, who will be the other things including the patients. On a lighter note; if all patients should go on strike by refusing to go to the hospitals which is not possible medical doctors may become vet. doctors if that happens grin grin.that's to show that even the patients who don't work in the hospitals are equally important(least to say other health workers) because without them doctors won't treat animals/trees after all . please, lets respect other peoples professions while we all know our limits. sometimes i am tempted to pick up DE form and enroll for medicine because of the way our doctors are over-celebrated here as if other professions are not relevant. May be i will consider that option if all this hullabaloo continues grin grin
am sorry bt, people wt such mindset are usually the reason 4 this strike.

otokx: Medicine still remains the most sought after course in University. Its the top of the medical courses. Pharmacy may be tedious but its not among the top 3 most sought after medical courses in UNIPORT. Those are hard bare facts from the records. Pharmacy is not near tedious as Medicine, do you guys do clinicals?
yes, I never said it isnt the most sought out bt, I wil stand to tell u that both are difficult(none is diff. Dan d oda). Whether u like it or nt thats d truth.
In pharmacy u are being given a very litle time to cover bulks.
.
Talking of Clinicals, b.pharm isnt clinical oriented so, just little clinicals myt b done. But, what do u have to say abt d practicals which are being written as an exam course of their own. Thank God u are in UNIPORT, take a strow to the pharmas board and see 4 urself.
.
Sir Otokx be truthful to urself by answering the question, "how many medical courses do we even have in UNIPORT?" that u wil say its nt among the top three most sought after med courses.
How many post utme candidate was there in pharmacy as at last yr? I guess, u can ansa that urself.
.
Fear of failure makes people nt to study pharmacy in UNIPORT u knw dat.

vicenzo: To avoid such costly mistakes by the charlatans called lab scientists and university pathologists with B.sc, doctors with MBBS are now going into pathology and lab science post graduate studies, to displace those charlatans and bring efficiency in correct diagnosis of diseases by combining clinical and theoritical knowledge in arriving at proper results. Doctors are going to save the day, so chillax.

Pharmacy harder than MBBS? Haha! Let me tell you now, at least 50% of the students who ended up studying Pharmacy, Med lab, Radiology, Nursing( especially male Nurses),Physiotherapy, etc. All wanted MBBS,but were not good enough to meet the criteria needed for admission into MBBS programmes.

They all grow up envying Medics, and when they graduate, they end up envying Doctors.
yea, they wanted studying med surg bt, cudnt belns of either jamb nonentical markings, post utme runs and even admission runs. Do u get it?
Moreover, all those knowledge u get from ur o'level which enables u into the systen ends in year 1 and a new thing is met in year 2. For Pharmacy, u are going into no year 2 without passing all the whole year1 course. So, dont that tell u somethg?
.
A 400level pharm student is a badoo. . . Quote me anywhere, to get pass 300level makes u a genius(having pass 12 to 14 courses with huge handout whose pass marks are 50% and some 60%). . . .
.
.
.
.entering is one thing, continuing is anoda.

Ulonwadi: Last time I checked MBBS is Bachelor of medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, if the medical doctor can be called Doctor even though he has a bachelors degree then why shouldn't the Pharm D holders have a right to answer whatever they want to. I personally believe only PhD holders should be called doctors, that's my opinion and I won't force it down anybody's throat or insult anyone who chooses to be addressed as such. I have a Pharm D from the University of Benin and I can tell you that, that degree makes a lot of sense and all pharmacists should ensure that they at least upgrade their degrees to Pharm D. The course content is so rich and the knowledge you gain beats B Pharm anyday. little wonder that the high level drug companies in naija scramble for uniben products. During my internship, I was appalled by the B Pharm holders from other schools I worked with and felt sad that they themselves didn't even know their deficiencies. However at the end of the day the most important thing is improved provision of health care to the man on the street, if the Pharm D can equip the pharmacist with the skills to achieve that aim, then only a lunatic would complain about the fact that the Pharmacist bears the appellation of Dr
thanks bro

In the middle-East it happens all over but, in Nigeria it happens just in the North and mostly in the North-East.

obayaya: You know why I asked you about Uniport?

I wanted to point out how the faculty of Pharmaceutical sciences is struggling to sandwich all the curriculum into 5 years. Not to talk of the obvious deficiency in facilities.

And you are still suggesting that an additional 1 year with whatever load is gonna carry should be added and at the end you'll be awarded a Pharm.D degree?
as in the curriculum is too big or small? Dnt get u.

PCN should sit their ass down and review the B.Pharm curriculum, enrich it and make it more relevant to the practice of pharmacy today. Improve the facilities and encourage research.
visit
http://pcn.gov.ng/
to get the general B. Pharm must-do.
U need to go to the Pharm. Faculty result board one day.

Pharm.D certificate with the same B.Pharm knowledge is deceit and
when Pharm. D is introduced, its curriculum is introduced.

Evergreen123: Y on earth will a doctor be threatened by a pharm.D certificate, the more u guys say these tnz, the more doctors shake their heads on you.
MBBS incorporates clinical pharmacology 10x and a host of other tnz.
Even in the advanced countries, pharmacists are confined to drugs and not patients, ranging from dispensing in hospitals to industrial work.
Everybody should mind their business
now I knw US isnt advance.
HealthRe: Furore Over Doctor Of Pharmacy Degree In Nigerian Universities. by Samgreguc(m): 12:18pm On Jun 29, 2014
obayaya: This post goes a long way to show that all you guys are interested in is a fight for relevance.

If you guys do all these courses that in your B.Pharm, what else are you guys fighting for? You already have the basic knowledge to be able to help the doctors in the wards.

PCN should work out modalities that will enable Pharmacists in the hospitals have advanced interaction with patients.

Isn't that what all this is about?
Pharm. D has much more benefit to the patience than B. Pharm.
Read my first post pls.

[quote author=adeola_drg]Don't be ignorant and like u're not. B.pharm students study Physiology, Anatomy, and Biochemistry. We sleep and wake up with pharmacology. Pennywise: Why are architects not callesd Dr sb since they spent 6yrs.
becos, they dint study towards it. They study towards having an Msc of which they get.
.
Bear it in mind that having Pharm. D doesn't mean u wunt further to Msc and Ph. D when necessary.
Even medical doctors in the US are mostly addressed with the suffix M.D.
yes na. M.D means M edical D octor and thats being specific as I earlier stated in my first post.

HealthRe: Furore Over Doctor Of Pharmacy Degree In Nigerian Universities. by Samgreguc(m): 11:39am On Jun 29, 2014
Pennywise: It is not in doubt that Nigerian pharmacists need a more didactic curriculum to become better professionals even if it means increasing study yrs to 6.

But that doesnt entitle them and optometrists to the prefix 'Dr'. Architects spend 6yrs in sch, yet they are not addressed with the prefix 'Dr'. In the US pharmD or not pharmacists are not called doctor sb except in Nigeria.
The Arch. Spent six yrs and they get an Msc. Degree.(my cousin is one).

Pharm. D grad. are called Dr in US bro.
