dozzybaba: Paramedics- The paramedic is a healthcare professional who works in
emergency medical situations. A paramedic may be best defined as
a medical professional who
provides medical care at an
advanced life support level in the
pre-hospital environment.

Is the above what a Pharmacist do?
Is the above what Clinical Scientists do?
Is this what Optometrists do?
Is this what a physiotherapist do?

Are these what Health professionals mentioned above paramedics?

wengerjay: So tell this forum ur own position in ur class then. And hw many of ur classmates were able to seek admission for medicine.
yea, many might av wanted to study med. Surg. And do u know Y? - because of the way Nigeria is, in d sense that a secondarian hardly gets to know that there are people like Pharmacist, med. lab., e.t.c. Even me at a time, I tot Nurses are female Doctors.

In essence, their Job description aint well defined.

Pls sentiments apart,be truthful to ur self.
I am nt a Medical Doctor,i am only saying the truth.
Most of these people dat ended up with paramedical courses were denied admission to read medicine.
Being able to write or speak english is not a qualification for being able to read any course u chose to,there are prerequisites.
One thing u must knw is dat, they weren't denied Med. Surg. Becos they wern't good for it but, becos they myt av nt reached d cut off (which is gotten from a statistics of the number of applicants with respect to their scores and admission space available in d school) or, havn't u heard of those who were being withdrawn in 1st year, 2nd year and so due to academic incompetence? If they were best fit, why were they withdrawn?

Anyone who knows what he is doing and does it well will forever never be intimediated by the fact that he wanted studying Med. Surg. And weren't offered. Afterall, we know our Country!

Some people are very brillant and intelligent,of which the greater number of this set of gifted people read medicine.
And some people who read and graduated for med. Schools were never best nor brilliant in their sec. School_ they picked up while in the university.

Mind you, once a professional Course, always Professional. So, others were also gifted and brilliant or have u forgotten were u came from(Nigeria)?, have u forgotten how corrupt the system is on given admission? Come-on, talk well.

HealthAppeal Court Affirms Conviction Of My Pikin Producers by Samgreguc(op): 9:35am On Jan 01, 2014
The Court of Appeal in Lagos on Tuesday affirmed the judgment of a Federal High Court, Lagos, which sentenced two employees of the firm producing the killer baby teething mixture,My Pikin, to seven years imprisonment each for the sale of the medicine.

In the lead judgment delivered by Justice Dauda Bage, the appellate court affirmed the seven years sentence by the trial court, but reversed the order of winding up and forfeiture made by the court.

The convicts, Adeyemo Abiodun and Ebele Eromosele, both employees of Barewa Pharmaceutical Company Ltd, had appealed against the judgment of Justice Okechukwu Okeke (now retired) delivered on May 17.

Okeke had ruled that Barewa Pharmaceutical Company Ltd, producer of the killer mixture be forfeited to the Federal Government.

Okeke had only convicted the two persons and the company for just the sale of the medicine, but that he could not convict them for the manufacturing and the adulteration of the drug because the prosecution was unable to adduce sufficient evidence to back the allegations.

The National Agency for Food, Drugs, Administration and Control, which prosecuted the convicts at the trial court, had alleged thatMy Pikincaused the death of over 80 children in the country.

Bage held that by the provisions of sections 36 of the Constitution and 138 (1) of the Evidence Act, the burden of proof in a criminal trial was proof beyond reasonable doubt

He held that what was required of the prosecution in such a criminal matter was scientific evidence, that is, proving that the substance recovered was tested scientifically and found to be hazardous.

The judge held that the prosecution had sufficiently discharged the burden of proof by the provision of a Certificate of Scientific Evaluation from its laboratory, which clearly showed that the recovered products contained a toxic substance.

“The respondents in their brief stated that the appellants supplied batch 02008 of the teething syrup to Roka Pharmacy, which after recovery and scientific evaluation, was shown to contain a contaminant called dyethylene glycol,” Bage held.

PoliticsKaduna Govt Gives Street Hawkers 1-week Ultimatum by Samgreguc(op): 6:51pm On Dec 30, 2013
The Kaduna State Government on Monday gave street hawkers operating in Kaduna, the state capital, one-week to evacuate or risk prosecution.

The General Manager, Kaduna Environmental Protection Authority, Alhaji Sani Aminu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that government would no longer tolerate the abuse on the environment.

Aminu said that the ultimatum became necessary in view of the recalcitrant attitude of hawkers, who had continued to litter the environment.

He said that the agency would no longer tolerate such environmental abuses which was costing the state so much of tax payers’ money.

“We are overwhelmed by the tonnes of refuse gathered from the streets of which between 60 to 70 per cent emanates from the activities of hawkers in various locations in the metropolis.

“The government is out to enforce all environmental laws, since the state is not a jungle where anybody does what he or she likes,” he said.

He believed that sanitising the streets of the hawkers would help to reduce crime, claiming that some of the hawkers “are into crime but only pretend to be selling products to the public”.

He cited areas where hoodlums disguised as traders and hawkers to include Independence way, Ahmadu Bello way and Station roundabout, all in Kaduna.

Aminu warned that anybody found hawking in the metropolis would be arrested and prosecuted, while the goods seized would be donated to orphanages. (NAN)
