phantom: Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, or in Latin: Medicinae Baccalaureus, Baccalaureus Chirurgiae (abbreviated in various ways, viz. MBBS or MBChB, MB BS, MB BChir, BM BCh, MB BCh, MB ChB, BM BS, BM, BMed etc.), are the two first professional undergraduate degrees awarded upon graduation from medical school in medicine and surgery by universities in various countries that follow the tradition of the United Kingdom. The naming suggests that they are two separate degrees; however, in practice, they are usually treated as one and awarded together. In countries that follow the tradition of the United States, the degree is awarded as M.D. or D.O., which is a professional doctorate degree.[1]

Doctor, as a title, originates from the Latin word of the same spelling and meaning.[1] The word is originally an agentive noun of the Latin verb docēre [dɔˈkeːrɛ] 'to teach'. It has been used as an honored academic title for over a millennium in Europe, where it dates back to the rise of the first universities. This use spread to the Americas, former European colonies, and is now prevalent in most of the world. Contracted "Dr" or "Dr.", it is used as a designation for a person who has obtained a doctorate-level degree. Doctorates may be research doctorates or professional doctorates. When addressing several people, each of whom holds a doctoral title, one may use the plural contraction "Drs" (or "Drs." in American English) – or in some languages (for example, German) "Dres." may be used – for example, instead of Dr Miller and Dr Rubinstein: Drs Miller and Rubinstein. When referring to relatives with the same surname the form "The Doctors Smith" can be used. The abbreviation Drs. can also mean doctorandus, a Dutch academic title.

HealthRe: Medical Doctors Begin Nationwide Strike Wednesday by Samgreguc(m): 5:13pm On Dec 16, 2013
phantom: on the first point, i agree completely with you.anyone can head the hospital with a course in administration.i meant the doctors head the health team as regards management of patients.it must be respected otherwise i as a doctor can say a wound must be opened only after five days and a nurse who feels we are all equal would decide otherwise and say the wound should be opened after two weeks.as regards the second issue, who is a consultant? A consultant is the go- to guy or expert in a particular area.because of the different areas in medicine, it became imperative that doctors had to choose specific areas to specialise in post mbbs.after undergoing extra training in a particular field and passing the required exams, you become an expert or consultant in that field.people CONSULT you for help in that particular area.now bros please tell me what extra training nurses and other health workers have under gone in their profession to warrant being called consultants? Look this whole thing to them is a competition.its all about them trying to rub shoulders with the doctor.qed.dont be hoodwinked.
and who says Pharmacist and others don't have specialties upon which they can become consultant? If u wanto knw alert me.

phantom: they see doctors as greedy because the doctor insists on the right thing that should be done.the doctor heads the health team ANYWHERE in the world but the nurses and pharmacists would have none of it.why do you think they want to become consultants like doctors? Answer me then i ll take this debate up a notch.
u must be high on cheap drugs.
Do you know what the health sector mean? If u mst knw, it doesn't mean hospital.
The Pharmacist can head the hospital with just a little admin. Course(if at all necessary).
.
On the consultant issue, what is the meaning of consultant? Med. Doctor? U beta go check ur "words and meanings(dictionary)"

otokx: MBBS is not and can never be equal to PhD
Tell him bro, him think say Ph. D na beans.
HealthRe: Medical Doctors Begin Nationwide Strike Wednesday by Samgreguc(m):
eaglechild: What do you mean by PhD lecturers, MBBS alone is equivalent to PhD not to add fellowship in a speciality.
SHUT UP!

Listen bro; am on the route to being a Doctor of Pharmacy(pharm. D) but, I can never say it is equivalent to Ph. D (Doctor of Phylosophy[of a specialty])

Do all Med. Doctors with MBBS teach? FYI, Ph. D are obtainable only when in the teaching profession. If you want to be a Ph. D holder, go to the class room.

onomeasike: Other healthcare professionals are waiting and watching to see what government will give the doctors and they will demand their own or proceed on strike to press for equal welfare treatment. The healthcare is not like university where the dominant and most influential group are the lecturers.it is a team of professionals. Gej government is in trouble unless he reverts to the era when hospital administration is in the hands of neutral professional hospital administrators

otokx: Birth certificate is not normally required unless there is a difference in date of birth stated in your Jamb and O level papers in which case a document predating the former must be presented.

Age declaration is not accepted at the Admissions office; especially when its sworn from 2013 and above.
Brother, if pharmacists decides to go on strike too, e go bad oooo. Buh our 'oju anu' dey kill us. We've been far too undermined in this country.

Imagine all community pharmacies been closed, hospital pharmacies closed too, the worst part, we close down the industries too, close down the drug distribution channels at Idumota, Lagos Island and Ilupeju(for a start). We'll leave them to the mercy of the Igbo(fake) boys..

It won't be fair, as more lives will be lost than u can think, but then maybe Nigerians will begin to value pharmacists.
true talk! If only they knw the role of pharmacist, they go dy comot cap.

what is this one saying?
HealthPHARMACY- The Heart Of The Health Profession. by Samgreguc(op):
Pharmacy, according to the Oxford dictionary is: a shop/store, or part of one, that sells medicines and drugs; a place in a hospital where medicines are prepared; the study of how to prepare medicines and drugs.

Talking about the heart in this context, it simply means the most important part of something. Yes, a Doctor does the diagnoses but without using the Pharmacy, his/her diagnoses if of no use; the Nurse also does his/her nursing but, in almost all cases makes use of the Pharmacy product; the Pathologist(Dr.)/lab. Scientist carries out his/her test and without gracing the Pharmacy, no meaningful progress is done on health; and so also to others.

The Pharmacist produces the drugs/medicines which is very useful in the health profession. Take away the Pharmacy in the hospital and other health allied entity and the it will be as good as a consultancy arena.

Above all, the various health professionals must join hands to make a meaningful progress. Every proffession is useful

heykims: guy, i need not trade words with u coz i already cud discern from ur comments so far dt u know nothing abt medicine nd its unfortunate u dont know dt u dont know, u re just an intimidated sheep, na inferiority complex dey taunt u nd ur mental power doesnt surf beyond d borders of Nigeria.
Anyway its neva too late to obtain a JAMB form nd go back for medicine.
NB: dont consider a part time for medicine is too noble to be studied in piece meals.
I wrote UTME and boldly applied PHARMACY. No mistake bro! I made proper enquiries from intellectuals of the various health professions b4 opting 4 Pharmacy unlike people like you who followed the bandwagons.

Keep insult aside and point out where am wrong with reason if ur mental power is above average.
HealthRe: Doctors Warn Of ‘imminent Collapse Of Health Services’ From Saturday by Samgreguc(m): 8:24am On Dec 14, 2013
heykims: I understand ur plight nd d angle from wch u re trying to prove ur point brother. Alas, medical doctors ain't d only health professionals nd they neva claim to be. All they re demanding is d fulfilment of an agreement earlier reached.
am sorry o bt, I can't recall any agreement they signed with the government. Pls, Let me know, if there is any.

Nurses, pharmacists, medical lab scientists etc go on strike too.
Healthcare delivery is a team work wch involves different cadets of healthcare givers viz d med docs, nurses etc.
Really? Its a team work and the doctors keep kicking against the progress of other health professinals?

Its only unfortunate dt there will always be a leader wch falls unto d shoulders of d medical doctors for obvious reasons.
am sorry bt, u sound like an educated illeterate.

I see no reason why other healthcare professionals like u (for I believe u re one judging from ur comments) have to be unnecessary jealous. When u go to hospitals, u see nurses beefing docs in fact I heard there's a course nursing students take in d university where I am where they re taught ow to behave (rudely) to doctors, and when u get to hospitals, u truly see those kid nurses have inherited d unfortunate trend on ground. I however like those male nurses though, u see signs of maturity in them when they relate wt docs, nd a few of d females esp those married or related to docs. The same applies to many other health professionals though to a minimal extent.
Nobody is jealous of you guys. You guys are only deteriorating the health sector by doing jobs which aint urs just bkos u were baked a little in them just as other were also baked a little in other fields aside theirs.

The ugly truth my brother is without d doctors, d health care system is down coz to a reasonable extent, d docs can still perform d functions of other cadets of health professionals wch is actually y they lead d team
an illiterate indeed! Can a doc., do d work of a pharmacist? Even the work of a pharmacologist they can't fully do.
If you must know bro, surgery is your only pride and apart from sugery, the doctor is useless.
