All-in-one hybrid inverter systems are doing a lot of things and therefore there is a minimum power draw that they must use especially at your price point of N250k. However, checkout the Growatt SPF-3000TL-LVM-24P. It has an idle consumption of 2W from the spec sheet.

Majority times I will blame the buyer. I'm scrolling the comments now and someone has posted a cad solar panel for around 200k plus. Some greedy buyer will see someone selling that particular panel for 100k and will rush to buy it with that feeling that he's a smart buyer. We all know what happens at the end. Many people like awoof in this country.

It's a question of the chicken and the egg. Which one came first ? If all sellers sold only original, OEM parts at current prices will the average Nigerian buyer be able to afford it ? Naturally all buyers are market conscious and will look to get the best deal possible at a lower price. Nobody including me wants to spend higher than what i can get for a product. Difference is some people are more stingy with money and willing to do the research and analysis before parting with their hard earned cold cash

The price is not even the issue (though that should ring alarm bells in your head). TUV Rheinland is an important certification label that a reputable solar panel like Q Cells should come with (its stated on their website and manual) but is conspicuously missing on the sticker. Some people will now purchase it and start wondering why they are not getting the nameplate capacity of the panel.

If you can afford it why not ? You are guaranteed quality at least. But call them first or go to their offices. Most online stores in Nigeria have outdated prices and stock information.

But that is going to be a huge ass panel. Check out the panel physical specs na over 2.1 meters tall. You will need massive space on your roof.

I prefer the panel range from the 380W up to 550W. 550W is the sweet spot for me. You can get Jinko Solar, JA Solar & Trina Solar for 540W or 550W also.

What do you mean by two sets of batteries ? Are you talking about charging a 12v battery set and a 24v battery set at the same time from the same solar charge controller or two sets of 24v batteries (same brand and capacity) both charging from the same charge controller ?

I saw Alaba sellers removing original manufacturer stickers on solar panels and putting their Canadian solar stickers.

The fruad going on in this country is too much, it's better you buy something with original sticker than buy fake Canadian solar panel at exorbitant price.

BMS. Battery Management System. Used to monitor and charge LifeP04 cells. 7S to 16s means it can do 7 cells in series upto 16 cells. 300A is the capacity of the BMS to charge and discharge current from the cells.

He means that the 15kwh LifeP04 battery capacity written on the nameplate is not accurate looking at the price listed at N1.6M. "Some" battery brands mislead their customers by stating a higher capacity than what their product can deliver in real life testing. Same thing goes for your solar panels too. Most of these substandard cheap Chinese solar panels do not deliver the rated nameplate capacity written on them (some have fake plastic stickers written on them). That's why you are usually advised to test the panels and buy named brands like Yingli, Canadian Solar, Jinko, Era, Trina etc.

The other question on my mind is I have the Homaya 1.5KVA which uses 2 batteries and is a 24-volt system.

What would happen if I connected more than 2 batteries provided that I still maintained the 24 volt system (in other words, increased the capacity beyond 2 batteries but kept everything else the same)

There is no problem. That is connecting your batteries in parallel. This increases the ameperage of the batteries and not the voltage.

Your current 24v system is two 12v 200ah batteries connected in series. This increase the voltage to 24v but keeps the amperage at 200ah.

You just need another set of two 12v 200ah batteries connected in series making 24v 200ah then connected to your current setup in parallel to increase your amperage from 24v 200ah to 24v 400ah. However, you will need to make sure that your batteries are of the same brand and make. Also, its not advisable to mix new and old batteries as the old one will be pulling the new one down. Also, you will need to ensure your wiring is redone at same length for each connection. See the attached wiring diagram. Substitute the 6v for 12v in the picture.

Thank you boss. This Jiabaida (JBD) BMS looks complex (but interesting) to me compared to Daly. What's really confusing is the number of wires that came with it. The Daly for example came with the right amount of cable mouth (8s = 8 pieces of cable to attach to the battery) which seems pretty straightforward. I am expecting a 24v battery setup which will use a BMS 8s, where will the rest of the wires go assuming I'm using a JDB BMS? I have attached a screenshot of the wire that I'm referring to.

Additionally, does the balancer that comes with the JBD means I won't need to worry about my Cells not having a balanced charge out of the box, meaning that once I use JBD bms, it will balance them automatically, and I won't have to worry about looking to balance the cells before setting them up?

Edited: Also boss, from the little research I've carried out, I want to ask if it's necessary to top balance the lifepo4 cells when you buy them from 3.2v to let's say 3.5-3.6v?
Would the output performance became worse overtime if I didn't?

Because I noticed that to top balance a battery, you need a power source that needs to run for hours (if not days depending on the cell capacity you have), set to a certain amps, and I noticed that this needs to be done by someone that knows what they are doing in order not to fry the battery by overcharging them.

Some videos I watched even claimed that the active top balancer that comes with bms is not entirely reliable...

The JiaBaida BMS has an 8S version. If you are in doubt about the version you need, you can message the seller directly to guide you on the specific model that you need to select before making payment. The active balance function is meant to keep your cells balanced and spreads the cells voltage from high voltage cells to low voltage cells. This function occurs over a period of days as you actively cycle your cells. This is not the same as top balancing new cells before connecting them to a BMS and starting to use it.

Top balancing a cell depends on a lot of variables chief among them being that the internal resistance of your batteries are closely matched as possible. Another is that your cells pull the full capacity of their name plate 280ah should pull 280ah or higher not 220ah. To be sincere with you, most of the people i know and even i will recommend taking the time and top balancing your cells well with an external charger before commissioning them. Even with Lead Acid batteries. This is because the cells arrive at a lower state of charge (30%) and charging them to full saves you a lot of headache in the future. You can go ahead and couple the cells together and charge them with the BMS with the expectation that the active balancer will smoothen things over time but why take the risk of a runaway cell voltage bringing your system down.

Daly BMS is a good BMS brand and affordable. Another two brands you can check out also is Jiabaida & Jikon BMS both on AliExpress. They come with active balancers and are in use by many DIY enthusiasts on this thread. I however prefer the Jiabaida (JBD) for its use by multiple OEMS like OverKill BMS https://overkillsolar.com/ who customize it further and update the software.

Just for people who might want to setup something similar, the space is 8ft x 8ft sha. I have ordered a 16Inch Extraction Fan from the USA, The fan is Temperature and Humidity Controlled, also has a mobile App for remote control and mmonitoring.

The "Tubular Gang" are meant to be decommisioned and sold off after fully testing the Lithium batteries and their capabilities. Those Tubular Batteries is going to be replaced by a 3rd 9.5KW Lithium Battery and the 2x 5KW inverters will be put in Parallel Mode (Teste this method already though) Or I would simply grab another inverter with 2 MMPT input Strings for my 10x 540W Panels and 8x 350W Panels, Felicity now has a New Model that has 2 MPPT Inputs , this:

Hehehehe, That my Generator is a 3Phase 6.5Kva Birtoli Gen and was retired since almost 4 years now by my 4 Years old former Inverter (3Kva iPowerPlus) Which I have now installed for my mom in Lagos (Picture Attached Below). So the small Gen is just there rusting out.

This new setup is aimed at retiring my 20kva Mikano Generator for good. And ofcourse Nepa People are not happy with me ooo. They came last week to inspect my meter and I showed them the panels on the roof. Hehehehe. I told them the I had to sum up the monthly 100k I used to recharge for 3yrs and yet the electricity will still not be available when you need it most times. so i decided to demote Nepa Supply on my Priority list and go for solar energy.
The two Genertaors might be auctioned out after a year of fully testing this my potential off grid Installation.

To which of the many generations and types of Felicity inverter do you credit this performance please?

I have used quite a few of their inverters and they do pretty well except for the much earlier generations which were prone to fan failure issues (the company upgraded components since at least 2 years ago).

While Felicity is rebranding generic mustpower and axpert inverters, their product quality and after sales is support is still well above most similar local alternatives.

Their Lithium battery is another matter as I have been reliably informed (issue prone) but I have 10 of their 7.5kwh modules in production too (bought for trials in the early days of Lithium) and they are doing well in all the 5 sites where they are installed.

We should be wary of blanket bashing a decent product unless you have specific knowledge or experience of issues.

Nobody is blanket bashing a product here. I was specific in my criticisms of their service/warranty process and not their inverters (even though their battery capacity claims has been discussed here). Maybe they have different people in Lagos, but come to Abuja and see the challenges people are going through here getting them to fix their inverters. And i am talking from my specific experience with them on several warranty issues with them. It's why i am pointing out this particular issue to the poster so that he makes an informed decision when deciding who to patronize and not coming back later to complain when he has an issue with his system.

You have it reversed sir. Your loads and how long you intend to power them determines the type of system you get. You forgot a solar charge controller in the components you listed unless your getting a hybrid inverter with built in charge controller. Sukam is an Indian brand of inverter that is normally used in conjunction with their tubular batteries but that company is now undergoing insolvency issues so Luminous & Eastmann are alternatives. You can try a 24v setup but with the dollar rates now rising weekly you will need to adjust your budget and move fast.

1. SRNE 24v 3.5KVA inverter with built-in MPPT 150v going for about N235,000.

2. Amaron Quanta Batteries (Two) 200ah AGM batteries going for about N220,000 each that's N440,000.

3. Yingli Solar Panels 450W ( my last quote on this was August at N110,000 each but please confirm from their offices on the current price. Lets say N880,000

4. Installation & wiring with surge protection. N100,000 (just an estimate but you can negotiate with the installer)

You are already looking at over N1.5M already. But as stated here, the quality and brand of products you choose will determine how long your setups last.
