Car TalkRe: What Are Your Experiences With A V6 Engine? Does It Consume A Lot Of Fuel? by samir101ng(m): 6:52am On Jul 12, 2015
And this is where my new Dream Car company Audi comes in with the new TFSI engine. Here is what Audi has to say about it :

Turbo fuel stratified injection or TFSI combines petrol direct injection with turbocharging.

Compared with conventional naturally aspirated V6 engines, a turbocharged direct-injection four-cylinder engine delivering the same performance uses 10 to 15 percent less fuel.

FSI technology and turbocharging make an excellent combination because the evaporation of fuel directly within the combustion chamber in FSI engines removes heat from the intake air. This allows a higher compression, significantly improving engine efficiency. It also solves an old problem in all turbocharged engines – a high tendency to knock at high boost levels.

The integrated turbocharger exhaust manifold module ensures optimum turbine efficiency, resulting in excellent utilisation of the exhaust energy. This achieves both a high power output and optimum engine responsiveness, ultimately helping to reduce fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.
What it basically means is that Audi uses a 2.0 Engine with a turbo charger that is more fuel economical and delivers the same power as a conventional V6 Engine without all the disadvantages that most V6 engines have.

@Kachisbarbie,

Thank you so much for the information provided. Am sure we have all learnt a few things involved in the insurance process by your explanations.

A quick question though, some insurance companies have a policy of paying you back a certain percentage of the premiums you have paid over the years. Does Mansard have any policy like that ?

Secondly, some insurance companies provides perks like GPS Tracking for your vehicle, replacement vehicle for use in the case of any accident etc, it would be nice to know if Mansard has something like that. Thanks.

Kachisbarbie:
^^ the first poster has said it all.

I have never been disappointed.

Try Mansard Insurance, former GTAssurance. wink
I run a comprehensive insurance with them.

Y'know Nigerians love the easy way, sometimes they insure their cars with non-reputable insurance firms and when it's time for them to be indemnified, stories that touch the heart would abound.

Get a recognized, consistent and reputable insurance firm, insure your car and you're good to go.
@Kachisbarbie,

Could you kindly help us out with some information as to the process you went through when applying for the insurance and the amount of premium you are paying ? It would go a long way in enlightening people. Thanks.

A major reason also i should add that Nigerian's don't patronize insurance companies is the long process involved in paying out on a claim. Most times the insurance companies act in bad faith and try to find ways to renegade on their responsibilities to pay up & find innovative excuses to push the blame on the customer. Am sure we all have one or two experiences to share on this particular issue.

I recently bought my wife a used Toyota Corola and getting the appropriate insurance was a real pain. The broker I contacted only gave me quotes from one insurance company and I felt the price is too high. He couldn't even tell me about the benefits and seemed unmotivated at all!?
Don't people want to make money these days?? I even contacted the insurance company directly, but customer support seems not to be their highest priority... I then called two other insurers I knew, which were a bit more motivated to sell me insurance. I'm curious what happens when I have a claim in the future...
What do you guys hate the most about car insurance? huh
Interesting topic.

I think the issue of a comprehensive car insurance is much neglected by many Nigerian's especially considering our challenging environment.

Here are a few links i was able to dig up, kindly add yours:

1. https://online.mansardinsurance.com/MansardOnline/motorcomprehensive.aspx

2. http://www.nigerinsurance.com/index/general/productdetails.php?id=3&subid=5&pid=43

3. http://iginigeria.com/?_com_content=d437298d0a25d7d6fd98d44815b8ea26&lb=MOTOR+INSURANCE

4. http://www.aiicoplc.com/insurance/personal-insurance/motor-insurance/comprehensive

5. http://www.leadway.com/corporate/motor-insurance/

Now from the above links, how many Nigerian's do you think will be able & willing to pay a premium every month or quarterly for their vehicles ?

You have to take so many things into consideration;

1. Income
2. Daily/Monthly Expenses
3. Cost of Motor Vehicle
4. Risks (determined by an actuary based on your profile) etc

So, for me personally to take out a comprehensive motor insurance plan, i must have a monthly income of over N150,000, have a monthly expense of N80,000 bar any unforeseen circumstances and drive a brand new car of not less than N2,500,000.00. But hey that's just me. grin grin

eromspete:
My opinion is that its a really good car cos I own and drive one wink (A4 2008, S-Line Edition) . I'd recommend you go for the European version. The Germans call it a Limousine FYI grin

However you have to take care of the car for it to take care of you. Its a great car to drive, good on fuel consumption and very solid and stable on the road. I you're a power junkie go for the Turbo engine option.

I'd need you to specify which model year you are interested in buying as Siena rightly pointed out cos there's diffrences (changes, upgrades, specs) in each generation (B5, B6, B7, B8).

I won't compare it to other brands cos I do not have all the facts but an Audi gives you good value/quality for money.

ONLY THING I'D STRONGLY ADVISE YOU IS TO BE SURE YOU HAVE DONE A PROPER CHECK/INSPECTION ON THE CAR BEFORE RELEASING MONEY TO THE SELLER. ALSO, ASK THE SELLER FOR A FULL SERVICE HISTORY. You do not want to buy a car bundled with problems even before driving it.
Thanks for the information. Like I posted earlier, I am interested between a 2010, 2011 or 2012 Model based on price and trim. I was thinking of getting it imported from the USA like I bought my previous car but I have a close family friend studying in Germany that can help me procure one if necessary.

Of course, carfax and VIN identification is a must as to check out any fatal flaws.

You drive an S-line ?! shocked that's cool. Might be tempted to get one. Correct me if am wrong but that's like in the categories of the M3 & F-Sport Models, right?!
Car TalkRe: Please How Efficient Is Audi A4, I Want To Buy A Direct Belgium by samir101ng(m): 10:06pm On May 12, 2015
I am also interested in purchasing an Audi A4.

Am moving to the German category of cars from the japs and am seriously considering the A4.

Have been doing my research for a while now. Here are my specs:

1. 2010-2012 Model

2. AWD (Quattro) optional

3. V6 Engine optional

I have attached the pics of a dream Audi A4 I once saw on www.euro2motors.com.

Now, I know German cars come with different packages installed e.g sports package, technology package, etc so no two cars are alike.

So, the question is, how's the Audi A4 going to handle in the Nigerian environment considering our fuel, maintenance, driving conditions (especially suspension)?!

Wow!!! Nice one op.

I will encourage the op to splurge some cool cash on some areas to make this car stand out.

1. Interior
A very nice looking interior with all the dials and knobs working will impress any passenger in that car. Getting a good upholstery tailor to sew and fit some nice fabric for the car is a must.

2. Paint
The first thing to notice on a car is the paint. Get a very cool colour tone and get the car professionally sprayed.

3. Wheels
The tires and rims are also a good area to spend on. Some decent rims will add more swag to the car more than it already is.

4. Sound System
Some nice jams will go a long way in announcing your presence.

5. Headlights
Kindly make sure you use some LED lights for some of the bulbs in the car.

I know your working on a budget and this is a dream list but I tell you your bug will be turning heads more than your average car on the street.

All the best.

Wow !!!

Kazeem and his mates killing cars since 1000BC grin

If I am correct, that's a Cadillac CTS Manufactured by General Motors USA V6 Model 2003-2007 (wikipedia)

First things first to check out:

1. Engine

Is it running?!
What parts are missing?!
Does it require any major part to replace before functioning ?!

2. Electrical
What is the current state of the wiring in the car?!
Are all the fuses working?!
Do electrical components work?!

3. Suspension
What's the state of the tires and brake system?!
Are there any components missing?!

4. Interior
Leather or fabric seats?!
What's the extent of the damage and estimated cost of repair?!

5. Exhaust/Catalytic Converter
Is the cars exhaust in good shape?!
Is the check engine light on??

This is just a preliminary list that the op can get started on. Am sure the other more knowledgeable people on the forum can contribute more. As long as there are no major components missing and repairs are minimal, it can be a steal. Most times Kazeem is unable to diagnose a simple fault that can be detected through the use of diagnostics and OEM parts due to their limited knowledge and skills on less popular products.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Revenge they say is a dish best served cold.

Some people always forget that nemesis will one day catch up to them. Both the IGP, MBU, EFCC Chairman and all the Service Chiefs are on notice. By enacting the whistle blowing act at the National Assembly, Buhari doesn't need to lift a finger in order to gather evidence of corruption and abuse of office on these people. Their own subordinates who they have trampled upon will be the ones to supply the nails on their coffins. By the time they start hearing about the disciplinary panels and inquiries into their offices, I guarantee you they will all resign their commissions than face the wrath that will follow them if found guilty. They thought they will act like mad dogs and go scot-free. Nooooo.

CrimeRe: Police Corporal Kills Bauchi MOPOL Commander by samir101ng(m): 11:04am On Feb 28, 2015
The loss of any life is a loss to humanity and my sincere condolences to the family of the deceased. However, as a man in uniform, his life was always dedicated to the service of his fatherland. Having said that, it is disappointing to see such a life wasted uselessly like a roadside chicken by some morally corrupt and demons in uniform rank and file policemen. Mind you, even the so called officers are not exempt in some cases of police brutality. Homicide by the Nigerian Police has been a long established tradition that has killed an uncountable number of innocent civilians whose tax money is used to fund and train these people. Unfortunately, the life of an ordinary Nigerian has been equated to the life of a dog with no dignity living in the slums. Civilians are killed everyday by the police for as little as ordinary N20 change or bribe. Has any one been prosecuted and made an example of?! Has the IG of police ever issued a statement warning all policemen to desist from such acts?! Have they successfully prosecuted and sentenced all policemen involved in killing civilians?! The answer is a big NO!!!!!!!!. Because of this, the Nigerian public will have no sympathy over the death of any police officer at the hands of his colleagues. This is because that is our life everyday. Nemesis will always catch up with the wicked.

CareerRe: Bankers & Professional Bankers Discussion Thread by samir101ng(m): 11:24am On Aug 28, 2014
@Ijeleigbo,

As a final year student of Banking & Finance, you already have taken all the modules required to get the ACIB certification from CIBN. Kindly go to www.cibng.org for all the necessary information you need on the CIBN certification and benefits of being a chartered member. Secondly, as regards the difference between CIBN & ICAN, they are both useful qualifications depending on the career path you wish to take. Yes, it is true that ICAN is more expensive and difficult to pass than CIBN. Moreover, with the advent of ACCA into the nigerian labour industry, some employers give more preference to that being a more global certification than ICAN. kindly check out www.icanig.org/ican/ for more information. My advice, register and attempt the CIBN exams as it will be far more easier and cheaper for you as a banking/finance student. You will be granted so many exemptions. As a chartered banker, it does carry some weight and you can work in such units like audit, finance, superivision etc. You can complete the program before your service year runs out. To attempt ICAN however as a non accounting graduate, it is estimated you will take 48months (4yrs) before finishing. Like earlier stated, its also a far more demanding course both in terms of money, time and energy.

Professional certifications are not the same as Masters. They are however a step above the B.sc as they are an acknowledgement to others that you have mastered your field (chartered). An I.T qualification is now a necessary qualification to have as jobs demand certain I.T skills. Certifications like Cisco CCNA, Oracle DBA, etc are not necessary and are too advanced anyway. A basic computer diploma or microsoft office certificate from a well recognised institute like NIIT, APTECH, etc will suffice.
FamilySix-year-old Girl Dies After Being Hit By Mother's Car by samir101ng(op): 11:22am On Aug 14, 2014
The girl is understood to have been struck as her mother was parking in the car park behind Hounslow West tube station on Wednesday (August 13) morning.

Police officers and medics tried to resuscitate the youngster but she was later pronounced dead at St Mary's Hospital, in Paddington.

Police, ambulance crews and firefighters were called to the car park in Bath Road shortly before 9.40am.

DCI Iain Miller, of British Transport Police, said: "Our officers attended, alongside colleagues from the Metropolitan Police Service and London Ambulance Service, and discovered a child - a six-year-old girl - had sustained fatal injuries having been struck by a car being driven by her mother.

"It is clear that both mother and child arrived together in the car park and the accident occurred during a parking manoeuvre.

"Specialist officers are now providing full support to the girl's family whilst detectives are working to determine exactly how the incident occurred."

A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said the girl had gone into cardiac arrest after the crash.

The car park at Hounslow West underground station in Bath Road, where a six-year-old was hit on Wednesday morning by a car her mother was driving
On Wednesday evening, a small patch of sand appeared to mark the spot where the girl had been hit.

One man living around the corner from the scene of the crash said he had heard a scream, which he assumed was that of the girl as she was hit, before sirens and the whirring blades of London's Air Ambulance filled the air.

But many of those in the neighbourhood remained oblivious to the tragedy which had unfurled almost on their doorstep.

2. What plan are you using ?

3. Whats your signal strength and what type of modem are you using ?
