Danwake (Bean Dumplings) a Northern delicacy for lunch. Easy and quick to make. Used palm oil, dried pepper and other spices with one cube of star Maggi. Sliced some cucumbers with boiled eggs and mayonnaise. A trick to eating this is usually with a chilled bottle of coke or any carbonated drink as the gases expand to create more space in your stomach. As the danwake is made from a combination of flour, alabo, dried kuka flour and potash, it sits in your stomach like casted concrete. You will just be drinking water for the next 12 hrs to keep hydrated. If you don't, your cries will be heard when you go the bathroom 3 days later. Lol. If you know, you know.

davillian:Chop Knuckle jare. No man turns into Mike Tyson overnight. The symptoms must have been there. But of course, our new crop of nigerian women have different priorities. A good example is the daily stories of yahoo boys and their victims making the news daily. Shebi, you want Ferari and Dubai trips !!! Be prepared to pay for it with your soul. Whoopi Goldberg made a good argument for men retaliating when being physically abused by their women. If a women hits you, hit her back. Shebi, feminists are saying men and women are equal. So, why should men be boxed into a corner and made to accept both verbal and physical abuse and not retaliate because it's a woman doing it. Just imagine the hypocrisy. No one advocates that men should be beating their wives but what is good for the goose is also good for the gander. Do me I do you. Shebi, we are "equal" partners in the marriage. Love, respect and honour me and I will do the same. But physically and verbally assault me and I will dish it out to you also. I won't start a fight but I will definitely finish one. Nobody should condone abuse of any kind to any member of the sexes. Both women and men should be held responsible for their attitudes and manners in a relationship. |
@arcbaba I use both a dollar and naira mastercard to make payments. You can also register your cards on PayPal and use the PayPal account for payment. For shipping from the US to Nigeria, you can use any of these three companies: Shoptomydoor, Mall for Africa and myus.com. I however highly recommend shoptomydoor. You can register an account on their website and follow the instructions. Good luck |

Well, since Oga Mosbus can't come to Abuja and there is no resident AC specialist with all the right tools. I have taken it upon my self to buy my own set of tools. Since most of the tools are mainly for diagnosis and can be found on Amazon, will probably resell them after wards. So, here is my list: 1. Leak Detector Tool 2. UV Light Dye Detection Kit 3. A set of Manifold Guages 4. Vacuum Pump 5. Complete set of O Rings Set 6. R134a Can Piercing Valve Most of the items are inexpensive except 1 or 2 items and can be found easily on Amazon/Ebay. I ordered the Leak Detection Tool and it arrived last week. At least I can now detect any leakage before and after any AC work. Will update you when the other tools arrive as per my budget and when time allows. |
Any update on a reliable AC technician with a vacuum pump in Abuja ?! Because I am seriously considering purchasing one and charging people for the usage. It seems there is a growing demand for it and all those AC technicians in GUDU, Abuja don't even know about vacuuming an AC system. |

Keballl:My brother no need for the hostile reaction. We are all learning here. To explain further, any money given to federal universities in Nigeria has to be appropriated and approved by the National Assembly. It is Nigeria's money. And therefore the Federal Government can to a certain extent dictate how those funds are spent. The Federal Universities haven't been granted full autonomy as far as I know. As long as they collect money from the Federal Government, they have to also comply with laid down rules and regulations. Now, a major concession that I think can be granted to the University is the issue of foreign grants, endowments and donations to the universities. Since it is money that isn't appropriated, they can have total control over it. However, it's a huge moral hazard to expect such funds to be used judiciously and transparently. Because the University management can use that money for any purpose and no one can hold them accountable for it. It's not a matter of sentiment. Let's be clear and honest about the matters here. Transparency and accountability is all we are asking the universities for. Just because the universities are not allowed to spend government funds any how doesn't mean that the TSA is bad. |
Keballl:Let me try to explain to you a little about how the TSA works so that you can be enlightened a bit. Let me use a hypothetical example and use UNILAG as a case study. What TSA simply does now is that the accounts of the University (UNILAG) are domiciled at the CBN Lagos Branch. They have two ways to access their money. Online via REMITTA or manually via e-payment schedules submitted to CBN Lagos Branch for posting/payment. So, who is stopping UNILAG from accessing their money?! Once money has been appropriated for UNILAG and released by the Ministry of Finance, their accounts are credited at the CBN Lagos Branch. Now, UNILAG can have more than one account domiciled at the CBN Branch. They can have accounts for their Capital, Recurrent Expenditures, Grants, TETFUND etc. Nothing stops UNILAG from accessing their money. Their signatories and mandate are all captured and transactions verifies before posting. It is this component that the universities are trying to bypass. Transparency and Integrity. You can't post a transactions without all the signatories to the account signing off on it or approving it on the system using REMITTA. I repeat nobody is stopping the universities from accessing their money. The CBN and FG are the usual scapegoats they use to cover their perchance for corruption and illegality. But because the commercial banks where giving them returns on their deposits, which was pocketed by the management of the University they are always against the TSA. The favours and gifts that they where used to is no longer available and that is why they blame the TSA. Even their revenue accounts is on the TSA. Universities are not allowed to spend government revenue without authorisation. Now, when you pay school fees and other charges, the money is paid into a commercial bank and swept to the universities revenue account with the CBN that same day. It doesn't stay overnight. And the University cannot access that account and spend money from it without the authorisation of either the Minister of Finance or the ACGF. These and other checks and balances are why the Universities are against the TSA. The TSA is a system that is efficient and designed to check corruption and revenue leakages. Plus every transaction can be traced to the persons that initiated and approved the transactions for accountability. I hope this explanation helps. |

Is it not the same airline owners that Jimoh Ibrahim was among that diverted over N35 Billion power & airline intervention fund from the CBN to his pocket. Of course 60% of FX should go to manufacturer's that are actually in production and moving the economy. So, he wants FX allocations to be diverted from those sectors to the airlines because they are more important abi ?! When people like the Ibru family are mismanaging their companies(AERO) and toying with the future of staff, what did they expect to happen ?! For me personally, airline travel is a luxury. It's far below the scale of things that need urgent fixing in the economy. Aircraft parts and other accessories are duty free for import. The CBN N300 Billion power & airline intervention fund is still accessible to them. What more do they want?! Abi, they want to be spoon fed like everyone else. Most Nigerian airlines have weak business fundamentals and that's why they easily get into trouble. At worst, they can ground their planes and people will enter "young shall grow" or "God bless ezenwata" luxurious buses for their needs. |

Hello Guys, So it’s been a while since I last engaged my super nerd mode and was in the mood to do some serious tinkering both on hardware and software. I had a little change saved up and decided to do convert an old pc I had lying around into a HTPC https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_theater_PC. I originally had an Acer Veriton 6900 Pro PC which in it’s hey days was a beast. But now with the recent advances in technology, it had been surpassed by newer and faster components (CPU, RAM, HDD, Graphics etc) Here are the original specs of the Acer PC http://www.cnet.com/products/acer-veriton-6900-pro-core-2-duo-1-86ghz-1gb-ram-250gb-hdd-windows-xp-pro/specs/ SPECS: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 / 1.86 GHz 1GB DDR2 SDRAM 533 MHz (2 x 512 MB) 250 GB (SATA 1.5Gb/s 7200 rpm) MAINBOARD: Data Bus Speed 1066 MHz Chipset Type Intel Q965 Express So, based on the above specs, I started my research on the parts that will be needed to give the pc an extra boost in its functions. I also needed to make the system a long term archive for my large collections of files (anime, movies, music etc.). With that in mind, I started shopping around on Amazon and finally settled on the below parts for my upgrade; UPGRADE: Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6700 (4M Cache, 2.66 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB) Crucial 1GB DDR2-800 UDIMM (DDR2 PC2-6400) x4 (Total 4GB) 2GB DDR5 EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti Superclocked Graphics Card Seagate Desktop HDD 2 TB (3.5in 7200rpm 64MB Cache) Intel® SSD 520 Series (120GB, 2.5in SATA 6Gb/s, 25nm, MLC) I was restricted in some aspects based on the motherboard and in some by the resources at my disposal. But I was able to balance the mix of performance and price. I finally ordered the parts and commenced the upgrading process in earnest. I was especially eager to finish before the July 29th deadline given by Microsoft for the Windows 10 free upgrade as the system was on Windows 8.1 Pro. |

Hello Guys, After having lurked around the forum for a while and seeing what other "brave" Nigerians have been doing in terms of maintenance and upgrades to their cars, i have decided to take the plunge and also create a thread on my own experience maintaining and doing some modifications to my one and only vehicle (2007 Honda Accord). This thread is going to be like a diary of my day to day experience with the vehicle and do appreciate helpful suggestions and feedback. I don't claim to be an expert or anything but will just like to share my experiences with others and hopefully gain more knowledge. Car History/Background: The car in question is a North American 2007 Honda Accord EX-L. Vehicle was purchased in 2013. I did a lot of research online and went through several websites looking for a vehicle that fit within my budget. I had already made up my mind that i was going to import the vehicle outside of the country and not go down the Cotonou route with all its attendant risks and stress. It took me 2 years to save up my money but i finally had $12,000 in the bank at the official rate of N155.76. I concentrated my search online and decided to narrow myself to www.cars.com. Everyday i searched for a vehicle with the right mileage, trim/options and most importantly PRICE. I finally got the right one from a car dealership in Virginia, USA called 1st Choice Auto Sale. It was 2007 Honda Accord EX-L (Full Option) with 80894 Mileage at $9995. An Auto Check Vehicle History report was generated and confirmed it had a "clean title" with only 1 previous owner. I immediately swung into action and called my Agent from the shipping company who arranged for the purchase and transport to Baltimore Port for onward shipping to Tin Can Island, Lagos. Total Landing cost of the vehicle from the US to Tin Can was $12,765.52. Here's the breakdown: 1. $9,995 Cost of Vehicle 2. $426.93 Dealer Document Processing Fee 3. $21.39 County Tax 4. $265 Shipping from Virginia to Baltimore Port 5. $1261.55 Shipping RORO Via Grimaldi to Tin Can Island 6. $720.65 Processing Fee by the Agent 7. $75 FedEx Cost of Bill of Lading Grand Total = $12,765.52 x N155.76 = N1,988,357.40

So many views and so many opinions. MEND or any Niger Delta Militant group should try to take a more environmentally activist role in my opinion than resorting to violence and incurring the wrath of the Nigerian Armed Forces. It is said that an Army of Lions led by a sheep will always be defeated but an army of sheep led by a lion will always be formidable. We now have a lion at the helm of affairs. Personally, and not only related to the militancy in the Niger Delta. I think we are treating the Boko Haram insurgency with still a lot of levity. Am currently in Yola, Adamawa State and I can talk about seeing the issues on ground. As far as I am concerned, Nigeria should seal it's borders starting from Kebbi,Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Jigawa, Yobe, Bornu and Adamawa States for the next 6months. No movement across the borders in or out. A whole brigade force should be moved to cover these border states and coordinate patrols across these borders (Niger, Chad, Cameroon). We need a massive influx of Artillery, Armoured Corp and Airforce Support to properly and throughly go through the Sambisa Forest once and for all. A comprehensive sweep should be made of all forests and hideouts should be done with the border soldiers closing any avenues for exit. Same thing applies to the Niger Delta and any militants group. Once MEND and others start their kidnappings and other terrorist activities, the entire Nigerian Navy Fleet should be let loose into the creeks. All gunboats and warships should be let loose on patrol and surveillance. Drones and supporting Airforce planes should pin point and surgically strike enemy camps. Like I said earlier, we are treating these problems with kid gloves. Am not suggesting a long drawn out campaign. But you strike fast and you strike hard with all you have got. Proper rules of engagement should (enforced and strictly followed. Field commanders are liable for any excesses committed by the troops in the field. Each unit will have at least 2 soldiers wearing body cameras to record their activities. Let's hope that the new President and Service Chiefs have the balls and capacity to see it through. Onyemadonald:That's a good question. After shouting themselves hoarse about 220 aides and N2.2 Billion Naira, I don't see the aides and jets needed to carry them about. Let's be honest to ourselves, Buhari will not and cannot condone the expense of N2.2 Billion for a trip and such a large entourage of aides. If he can reject N600 Million for vehicles, you can imagine his outrage for such expenses as quoted by some wailing wailers here who will swallow anything that will deface his impeccable character. @aaidel, Okay, Okay. Am googling. Sheesh !!Okay here we go now: 1. Kia Motors USA LX Starting MSRP: $13,990 http://www.kia.com/us/en/vehicle/rio-5-door/2015/features 2. Kia Motors UK Rio '1' £10,145 http://www.kia.co.uk/new-cars/range/compact-cars/new-rio/specification/safety-and-security.aspx 3. Kia Motors Nigeria ₦1,980,000 http:///kia-rio-the-peoples-car-1646630 I decided to use the 2015 Kia Rio 5 Door as a baseline model to make your comparisons. I chose the LX trim which is the base model and looked through their features to see if there was any difference amongst the ones listed in the USA, UK and Nigeria. Sadly, I am unable to see any features listed in all the other LX's that are not included in the Nigerian version. Kindly buttress your points further. |
@aaidel, Dude, calm down . Car Talk is meant for sharing ideas & knowledge. Not a bar room brawl. Having said that, you are now shifting the goal post on your initial posts. You started off by complaining about limited safety features first on KIA cars and NOT about the prices of their trim/models. These are two different arguments. As always, we are all quick to make judgments. Price is subjective on so many factors. That is why before this recent foreign exchange issue, it was cheaper to import some cars into the country than buying locally here. The US and other advanced markets have greater economies of scale and incentives to operate a business than Nigeria. Am sure, VictorAB has posted here that they assemble their vehicles here in Nigeria. You will be shocked at the overheads incurred in running the factory that assembles these cars. That & other expenses of course will be transmitted down to the customer in the unit price of the vehicles. Yes, we can advocate for lower prices on these vehicles but we should also be realistic on the issues on ground facing these companies. Imagine the cost implication and the resultant crash in prices if all the GSM companies where to run off PHCN and not use their generators. These and other issues are the challenges that affect pricing here. |
@aaidel, I don't think your being reasonable in your arguments. Safety features like airbags, ABS, traction control, VAS, are things that you should be mentioning. And even these things don't come standard on every vehicle. Most modern cars have different trims or packages of the same model e.g LX, EX, EX-L for Honda's, L, LE, XLE, SE for Toyota's. Each trim or package of the same model year of the vehicle comes with different enhancements or comfort levels as standards. E.g All XLE & EX-L models come with Leather Seats and Sun Roofs as standard. This is not found on LX & L models. The same applies to those safety features you mentioned. Not all safety features come as standard on some models though there are some that are universally adopted like Seat belts, airbags, etc. The more expensive or higher the trim level of course the more features including safety ones it will have. |
