ComputersRe: Mtn 3.5g Data Service: How Good? by samir101ng(m): 12:02am On Aug 19, 2008
Dual Core:
with mtn's download speed of above 300kb/s, i'll finish my monthly bandwidth of 3gig in a day. after then what? i have to go pay like i'm paying to renew the subsription?
The subscription payment for the "monthly" is once a month with a data limit of 3GB until the next due payment date, So, baba dual core if you don chop your 3GB limit within a day as a result of fast speed overdose, you will have to wait until the next cycle. P.S ( hehe grin grin hope you are no longer having plantain troubles)

memento:
Please i have a pcmcia gprs card, if i insert the mtn data sim into it what will be the effect? does it mean it will give me just the gprs speed??
Yes, you can only be able to browse at GPRS speeds of 56 kilobits to a maximum 0f 114 kilobits. You will need a pcmcia card that supports 3G speeds before you will be able to enjoy the service and fast downloads.

adewaleafolabi:
What would happen if we all called customer care and complain about the data limit ? Or mail their customer care and lodge our complains ?
Dual Core:
LoL, which customer care? the silly 180 people or a repented set of customer care? lol.
mehn don't even waste your time.
Sad but true. MTN is supposed to have an unlimited bandwidht plan for its customers no matter how expensive at first. Its even better to get the starcomms izap with its unlimited bandwidht limit than that of MTN no matter how fast it is. And am sure the speed of the starcomms izap is okay when you have full coverage. Abi baba dual core ? grin grin grin grin

Just copied the complete season 4 from a friend of mine. High quality videos. Its ok but lost doesnt have the vava voom or the tension that 24 or prison break has. The storyline sometimes is also quite confusing. But with all that, its still a nice show. Saw on E! the other day that jack had his salary upgraded to $225,000 per episode. Now thats serious money in the bank.

Signal gripes mount over new iPhone

By Kevin Allison in San Francisco

Published: August 17 2008 19:52 | Last updated: August 17 2008 19:52

The ranks of unhappy iPhone users continued to swell at the weekend as Apple customers complained about problems maintaining a signal on the company’s new 3G handset.

Over the past few weeks, customers have flocked to Apple’s online support forums to complain about weak or fluctuating signals leading to dropped calls and long download times.

“I have had my iPhone since this past Sunday,” wrote one iPhone customer on an Apple support forum last week.

“The reception issues began immediately with 3G flip-flopping between ‘no signal’ and up to four bars – but usually hovering between none and two.”

Not all iPhone users are reporting problems but a growing number of anecdotal reports from around the world indicates that the phenomenon may be widespread.

Apple has yet to publicly acknowledge the problem, compounding the frustration for some users.

“It amazes me how widespread this problem obviously is, and how little AT&T, and especially Apple, has done in acknowledging and addressing this issue,” said another user on an Apple forum.

Speculation about the cause of the poor reception thus far has centred on the iPhone’s Infineon chipset.

“We believe that these issues are typical of an immature chipset and radio protocol stack where we are almost certain Infineon is the 3G supplier,” wrote Richard Windsor, an analyst at Nomura.

“This is not surprising as the Infineon 3G chipset solution has never really been tested in the hands of users,” he said.

“Some people will not experience these problems as it is only in areas where the radio signal weakens that the immaturity of the stack really shows.”

If Mr Windsor is correct, that means Apple may not be able to fix the problem with a simple software update.

Last week, the Wall Street Journal reported that Apple was working on a fix for the problem. Apple and AT&T both declined to comment. Infineon did not return calls.

Apple claimed that it sold more than 1m 3G iPhones in the first three days after the much-hyped mobile handset launched last month.

It has set a goal of selling 10m iPhones, including its older first-generation model, by the end of this year.

Queues at Apple’s downtown San Francisco Apple store have regularly stretched outside the door since, indicating brisk sales.

The problems with 3G iPhone reception come on the heels of the botched launch of MobileMe, a re-vamped version of Apple’s subscription service, which allows users to store files, check e-mail and upload photos online.

Customers reported problems accessing that service after its launch last month.

See the continous wahala people are subjecting themselves to

ComputersRe: Highest download rate possible? by samir101ng(m): 5:01pm On Aug 16, 2008
Am using a wireless grid antenna to subscribe to a vsat connection and sometimes especially at night, am the only subscriber on the network. I get average speeds of up to 70-80 KB/s when downloading files.
ComputersRe: Mtn 3.5g Data Service: How Good? by samir101ng(m): 4:27pm On Aug 16, 2008
@ Bossman

Everything that enters your computer is counted into your monthly bandwidht limit of 3GB including data from surfing websites, downloading music, streaming music etc. You know that network icon that shows you the data packets that are being received and transferred into your computer, well thats also a counter of your traffic. But why is MTN putting this download limit. I have know honestly passed the stage of and average internet user. I download 3GB worth of data in just 48 hrs. A movie for example using emule is like 700MB if you want to see a movie like the dark knight. There should be a bigger bandwidht plan and MTN should start reducing prices if they want more subscribers though.

thanks Deepzone for giving him the needed and deserved reply.
@ Dreeldee If this is how you respond to every opinion or criticism, am really sorry for you. A different approach will be much better.

Something is seriously wrong with your head
@ Deepzone Why don't you check yours before opening your mouth. If you don't like what i say, shut the fk up. Am entitiled to my opinions even if you don't like it.

How can they appoint a Nigerian living and working in his village to become a VC/president in an American university? Because you think they don't have qualified personells for the job? Do you even think they'll go to another city here in the US to contract someone who hasn't been involved with the university for years? This place is not Nigeria where anybody can be president over night.
@ Deepzone My sentiments exactly. Whats so special about given a nigerian a job as a vc in the us ? Mind you, i am not saying he doesn't deserve it but whats so special about it when you practically have to live and work there for a long time. They could have given it to a ghanian, senegalese etc and i wouldnt be surprised. Are you saying that there are no academicians in nigeria who cannot hold their own or do you honestly believe that every nigerian university is a village. When i saw the heading i was proud that one of our own had made it only to find out that he had been living and working there for a long time (which is not a bad thing). Please in the future don't come out with guns blazing at anybody. One love.  grin grin grin

One would think that the Nigerian in question is a proper Nigerian and not an American Nigerian.
@ Nuzo My thoughts exactly
LiteratureRe: Short Story Contest: Tuneh Won by samir101ng(m): 5:22am On Aug 13, 2008
N25,000 for a short story for a movie, hmmm, shocked shocked shocked. Haba Seun, even by naija standards thats low. Imagine getting 25K for a movie that you are probably going to make millions on. If you are willing to give 25km trust nigerians you will be making a huge profit on the side. Why dont you add like 5-10% of the gross earnings of the movie ? Now thats motivation enough.

@ jdoss

guy, you are making me green with envy huh huh Now a few questions, i have a hp laptop on which i want to use the mtn 3G data service because of its mobility. My problem is it comes with the new expresscard slot and not the pcmcia or pc card slot which mtn is selling its card for. So does mtn offer any viable alternative and what is the model or manufacturer of your card. thanks

PhonesRe: Is There Any Way Of Contacting Mtn Customer Care Since 180 Is Not Working by samir101ng(m): 12:29am On Jul 29, 2008
haba, but you guys this is a big disgrace to mtn's customers. How can a major telecommunication company operate without a valid customer care number ? 90% of the customers on the network resolve their problems through the customer care phone number's. when they are not functioning, customers become angry and complain. Unfortunately, this is naija we live in and they can get away with it without anybody suing them or reporting them to the relevant authorities like ncc.

dear brethrens, this issue isnt one to raise vocal bottles over,
Actually, he started it by stating that it was a blatant lie. When debating with someone i prefer convincing arguments than outright outbursts with no supporting facts. People should me more mature when replying.

actually,as supposed, all phones with the dvb-h tech should access the dstv funct.
Simple logic

but mtn paticularly had the zte phones encrypted, hence for now, not all fones with the funct can view it, i own the zte phone too
Now you are contradicting yourself. Are you saying MTN encrypted the ZTE phones to only work with the dstv mobile or the dvb-h network against other users with dvb-h comptible phones ? Please clarify and tells what technology they are deploying to specifically bar other users without the ZTE phones. Note please, i am here to be enlightened and informed so please don't take offense. Bring facts.
