Career / Nigerian Forensic Accountants by Sammy107d(m): 3:07am On Sep 10, 2009 |
Forensic Accounting is simply a speciality field in Accounting that deals identification of financial fraud, and reports in a way that it would be suitable for use in a court of law. Forensic Accounting is the fastest growing and highest paying field of Accounting, and with the integration and complexity of the global markets and financial institutions, it would be in greater demand within the next few decades. Nigeria in particular is in dire need of well trained Forensic Accountants. If you are one, or you intend to practice in the near future, please shed insight onto how you intend to go about it, your level of education, and your intended organization (government, energy, ) You can also share ideas and discuss topics relating to the field here. |

I chose to see Nigeria in a different light only about 3 years ago, and resolved to be a key driver towards that picture. I try as little as honking embarrassingly at anyone who flings garbage out of car windows to giving lavishly to youths genuinely in need of resources to drive their dreams. Abroad, I appreciate anything Nigerian (including my naija wallpapers and tees), and spend most of my days advocating the beauty of the country to the people here- who believe the words 'good' and 'Nigeria' are opposite ends of a magnet. I'm trying to set up an African Student's Association on my university campus to ensure that Africans in general primarily outperform other nationals in academics, and back it up with exceptional moral character (and physical looks). I'll like to believe that I, along with my few colleagues here have significantly altered the stereotypes about the country (even though nollywood is'nt helping). I hope to finish here in a little while with the best possible result, and stroll back to my country as an independent Forensic Accountant, to drag down the corruption statistics the top business men and government enjoy. I also indulge in Nigerian news and a good number of top Nigerian papers and books to get in the know (Chimanda Ngozi's amazing. . . ). Most of my Nigerian counterparts and siblings home and abroad (and many nairalanders/skyscrapercity folks) are even more patriotic. It's like a race to see who is going to be the brightest, and greatest future Nigerian. The ones who see a rotten Nigeria all the way dwell in their blindness, and don't bother to improve themselves. Consequently becoming the scammers and ritualists. Walking the streets of Abeokuta, you can see wasted youths all over waiting to 'obtain' your shirt at the corner down the road. You can only pray for those ones. |

wills: All true. But these are things we already know, and it wouldn't have any meaning only because we heard it from Obama. Obama's "world lover" tactic is rendering him more ceremonial like the English queen; trying not to directly hurt anybody and propose risky foreign policies, thereby failing to reach any definite resolution. He might as well have written a letter. |

Sky news. US President Barack Obama has said Africa is a key part of "our interconnected world" - but must strengthen democracy and fight corruption. President Barack Obama chats with Ghanaian President John Atta-Mills on July 11, 2009 at Osu Castle, the government headquarters and a former slave trading fort, in Accra. President Obama meets Ghanaian President John Atta-Mills (R) Mr Obama was making his first major speech in sub-Saharan Africa while on a whistle-stop tour of Ghana. He outlined a vision for mutual responsibility between the continent and the US, saying: "Your prosperity can expand America's. Your health and security can contribute to the world's. "And the strength of your democracy can help advance human rights for people everywhere." But the US president said that despite progress being made, "much of that promise has yet to be fulfilled". He said: "To realise that promise, we must first recognise a fundamental truth that you have given life to in Ghana: development depends upon good governance." Earlier, Mr Obama has called on Ghana to be a model of success for African nations. Sky News speaks exclusively to President Barack Obama He spoke after meeting Ghanaian President John Atta-Mills, who was elected in a peaceful, transparent vote last December that contrasts with old images of war, misery and corruption on the world's poorest continent. "Time and again, Ghanaians have chosen constitutional rule over autocracy, and shown a democratic spirit that allows the energy of your people to break through," he said, adding: "Africa doesn't need strong men, it needs strong institutions." The US president outlined four issues he saw as critical to the future of Africa - democracy, opportunity, health and the peaceful resolution of conflict. But first, he said, "we must support strong and sustainable democratic governments". To help tackle Africa's serious public health problems, Mr Obama told the Ghanaian parliament he was committing £40bn to fight diseases such as HIV, AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis on the continent. |

CNBC Africa poll US President Barack Obama is visiting only Ghana this week, is his state-visit just window-dressing for American Policy on Africa? Yes----- 23% No ------ 29% Why Ghana 47% Like the CNN reporter noted, the choice of Accra as the spot made the visit barely ceremonial. Harare, Abuja, or J'burg would have done it. |

Charles Cobb on CNN: He offered very few specifics regarding policies, and placed relevance on good governance and democracy. "how big a problem is agricultural subsidies in the United States?" |
Politics / Re: Discuss The Obama Speech In Ghana by Sammy107d(m): 2:22pm On Jul 11, 2009 |
iniguy: Yes he did. But barely touching on already stressed and rather apparent aspects barely motivates. He indirectly hit the crime in South Africa, and praised the wrong aspect of Nigeria (Religious collaboration); majorly hailing democracy in Ghana and Botswana. Again, nothing concrete coming off this speech but the promise of financial aid. |

I don't know, but this speech sounds a little patronizing. I was expecting to be positively stirring while remaining piquant. He just made a comment commending Nigeria of an inter-religious cooperation against malaria. Interesting. . . |
