Tracking day 11, working day 7. Still got my fingers crossed, hoping for the best,

hmmm, situation sounds precarious. 10yrs ago is just 1999. that they dont still have records of 10 yrs ago, ? I wouldn't bet my best pair of boxers on that. See, the British and indeed all western countries are kind of meticulous with records, yeah, they dont joke with it at all! I remember a lady had the same problem when I was applying for the new passport. Her passport had been sent to Nig Immigration because BHS suspected her of impersonation. She claimed she had visited the Uk often and wondered what the P was.
It was only after she left that the immig officer explained that several other Nigerians would hav the same problem. Reason is because most peeps had used false info on their previous passports and only come out to regularise the info with the advent of the e- passport. this discrepancy however shows up on the British database. How do you think they get to catch long time criminals after so many years? You should be a lil careful oh, no be naija system we dey talk!

Besides, they'll appreciate your honesty. If you have your old passport, you don't declare the content, and they just happen to have it, U can bet your new passport on the fact that you wouldn't see Europe in a few decades.

Career / Nigerian Forensic Accountants by Sammy107d(m): 3:07am On Sep 10, 2009

Forensic Accounting is simply a speciality field in Accounting that deals identification of financial fraud, and reports in a way that it would be suitable for use in a court of law. Forensic Accounting is the fastest growing and highest paying field of Accounting, and with the integration and complexity of the global markets and financial institutions, it would be in greater demand within the next few decades.

Nigeria in particular is in dire need of well trained Forensic Accountants. If you are one, or you intend to practice in the near future, please shed insight onto how you intend to go about it, your level of education, and your intended organization (government, energy, )

You can also share ideas and discuss topics relating to the field here.

Politics / Re: Who Is The Next Generation Nigerian by Sammy107d(m): 5:23pm On Sep 04, 2009
I chose to see Nigeria in a different light only about 3 years ago, and resolved to be a key driver towards that picture. I try as little as honking embarrassingly at anyone who flings garbage out of car windows to giving lavishly to youths genuinely in need of resources to drive their dreams. Abroad, I appreciate anything Nigerian (including my naija wallpapers and tees), and spend most of my days advocating the beauty of the country to the people here- who believe the words 'good' and 'Nigeria' are opposite ends of a magnet. I'm trying to set up an African Student's Association on my university campus to ensure that Africans in general primarily outperform other nationals in academics, and back it up with exceptional moral character (and physical looks). I'll like to believe that I, along with my few colleagues here have significantly altered the stereotypes about the country (even though nollywood is'nt helping). I hope to finish here in a little while with the best possible result, and stroll back to my country as an independent Forensic Accountant, to drag down the corruption statistics the top business men and government enjoy. I also indulge in Nigerian news and a good number of top Nigerian papers and books to get in the know (Chimanda Ngozi's amazing. . . ).

Most of my Nigerian counterparts and siblings home and abroad (and many nairalanders/skyscrapercity folks) are even more patriotic. It's like a race to see who is going to be the brightest, and greatest future Nigerian. The ones who see a rotten Nigeria all the way dwell in their blindness, and don't bother to improve themselves. Consequently becoming the scammers and ritualists.

Walking the streets of Abeokuta, you can see wasted youths all over waiting to 'obtain' your shirt at the corner down the road. You can only pray for those ones.

So what if we've heard it before? It won't hurt for it to be drummed into our ears repeatedly until we learn.
The main reason you're dissapointed is because you expected a speech about more aid and more handouts. We need to realize that we are the ones that are going to solve our own problems if we want any form of progress at all.

Would you rather Obama went about with Bush's 'axis of terrorism' speeches? Would that not drive the North Koreas and Irans of this world into greater isolation?
Already anti-americanism is on the wane in Europe now. As someone said on CNN the other day, it'sno longer cool to hate on america since Bush got kicked out and Obama came in.

Made real sense there.

A quote from the speech There are wars over land and wars over resources. And it is still far too easy for those without conscience to manipulate whole communities into fighting among faiths and tribes," President Obama

To me this sounds very much like his is talking about our dear Nigeria, but the most painfully and equally shameful thing is that our so called leaders, and past crook leaders also, who have no other way of making money other than government, will most probably not even listen to this speech, even if they do it means absolutely nothing to them.

While countries like Ghana, are facing up to the challenges and striving to move up, not just to gain recognition in the international community, but also to build a strong and virile economy and democracy.

Our land that is far more blessed in every way you can compare it to Ghana is rather unfortunately in a state of retrogression, nothing seems to be changing for the better, in both governance and the economy.

Dear NL, let not just pray for this land called Nigeria, lets refuse in any way we can this sect of people truncating the destiny of over a 140million souls.
Mr. Clueless ,should finishes his sitdown look adventure to the G8 and come back to rule oh.
One more thing, I won’t be surprised if that bag called (Ghana must go), is now changed into (Nigeria must go)…

All true. But these are things we already know, and it wouldn't have any meaning only because we heard it from Obama. Obama's "world lover" tactic is rendering him more ceremonial like the English queen; trying not to directly hurt anybody and propose risky foreign policies, thereby failing to reach any definite resolution. He might as well have written a letter.

Sky news.

US President Barack Obama has said Africa is a key part of "our interconnected world" - but must strengthen democracy and fight corruption.

President Barack Obama chats with Ghanaian President John Atta-Mills on July 11, 2009 at Osu Castle, the government headquarters and a former slave trading fort, in Accra.

President Obama meets Ghanaian President John Atta-Mills (R)

Mr Obama was making his first major speech in sub-Saharan Africa while on a whistle-stop tour of Ghana.

He outlined a vision for mutual responsibility between the continent and the US, saying: "Your prosperity can expand America's. Your health and security can contribute to the world's.

"And the strength of your democracy can help advance human rights for people everywhere."

But the US president said that despite progress being made, "much of that promise has yet to be fulfilled".

He said: "To realise that promise, we must first recognise a fundamental truth that you have given life to in Ghana: development depends upon good governance."

Earlier, Mr Obama has called on Ghana to be a model of success for African nations.

Sky News speaks exclusively to President Barack Obama

He spoke after meeting Ghanaian President John Atta-Mills, who was elected in a peaceful, transparent vote last December that contrasts with old images of war, misery and corruption on the world's poorest continent.

"Time and again, Ghanaians have chosen constitutional rule over autocracy, and shown a democratic spirit that allows the energy of your people to break through," he said, adding: "Africa doesn't need strong men, it needs strong institutions."

The US president outlined four issues he saw as critical to the future of Africa - democracy, opportunity, health and the peaceful resolution of conflict.

But first, he said, "we must support strong and sustainable democratic governments".

To help tackle Africa's serious public health problems, Mr Obama told the Ghanaian parliament he was committing £40bn to fight diseases such as HIV, AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis on the continent.

CNBC Africa poll

US President Barack Obama is visiting only Ghana this week, is his state-visit just window-dressing for American Policy on Africa?

Yes----- 23%
No ------ 29%
Why Ghana 47%

Like the CNN reporter noted, the choice of Accra as the spot made the visit barely ceremonial. Harare, Abuja, or J'burg would have done it.

Broad range speech covering all aspects of our lives

Yes he did. But barely touching on already stressed and rather apparent aspects barely motivates. He indirectly hit the crime in South Africa, and praised the wrong aspect of Nigeria (Religious collaboration); majorly hailing democracy in Ghana and Botswana. Again, nothing concrete coming off this speech but the promise of financial aid.

I don't know, but this speech sounds a little patronizing. I was expecting to be positively stirring while remaining piquant.

He just made a comment commending Nigeria of an inter-religious cooperation against malaria. Interesting. . .
