Nairaland / General / About The Youths! by Sammy1932(m): 6:43am On Nov 08, 2018
It's not about Atiku or Buhari; neither is it about PDP nor APC. But why must it be this old men Does it mean there are no Capable or qualified youth in a nation of over 200 million people to successfully steer the ship of this great nation to it's promised land of our dream ? Na waoo!!
While growing up as a teen, we were told that we were the leaders of tomorrow, fast forward it to 40 years after, they still tell us we are not ready! But when are we going to be ready? Please lets ask them.
But the youths are ready to be used as tool for ballot snatching and stuffing. They're readily available tools for political thuggery and harassment etc. Meanwhile, our political landlords are already positioning their children into various top political offices across the country. Yet the rest of us are not ready! Ódiegwu!!!!
Many things to say coz am pained when I look at the happenings, knowing that the older generation are fast fading away while still clinging to power, and the youth has no voice or input.
Nigerian youths, ê ronú!!!!

Joke apart, other African countries seem to be getting it right this year in particular.
What's wrong with my nabe? When will we get it right as a nation? When will the giant in us come alive? When will our government stop preaching integrity and start acting it? When will we become a proud citizen? I know it's too late for me to enjoy a better Nigeria but I don't want this plague to become a generational doom. I want generations unborn to look up to us. I want them to forever appreciate us for the sacrifice of building a better Nigeria. A more organized Nigeria. I don't just want our present generation to make history. I want us to change history. I want Nigeria to be great. Each time I see America citizens being proud of their citizenship, I feel jealous and always envy them. When will I be proud of my motherland? When will I be proud of Nigeria?

It's not too late for you my dear to enjoy see it or enjoy such great things happen in our beloved country. I believe we shall all see and enjoy a. Nigeria we had. both dreamed, prayed and hoped about. The giant in us as a Nation will surely rise up and take its rightful place in the committee of Nations.

#Nigeria will surely rule the World and I will live to see it happen soon.

[quote author=Ochason post=72277224]I will share mine first.

I was in a church and there was this girl that has cancer of the blood. Every 6 months she normally undergoes blood transfusion.

So on this faithful day, a friend of hers invited her to their church she reluctantly went with her and as service was going on, the pastor made a statement that every problem in your blood is healed in the name of Jesus Christ and in her heart she said amen. She was also planning to go for another blood transfusion the next day and this costs the family #1.6m. When she went back again, the doctor told her that there is nothing wrong with her blood that she is perfectly OK. Neither her friend nor the pastor is aware of her problem but God was.

You can also share yours too. I will still share more even my supernatural encounters. [/quote

Science/Technology / Re: What You Need To Know About Computer Village In Otigba, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria by Sammy1932(m): 12:36pm On Sep 24, 2018
HigherEd:
Computer Village is the largest information and communication technology accessory market in Africa located in Otigba, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.

It sits on land originally planned by the Lagos State Government to be a residential area. Today, despite her many challenges it serves as the largest marketplace for tech gadgets in Nigeria. Much of Computer Village troubles range from theft to sale of counterfeit or unlicensed products and a government bent on relocating it, regardless, the economic impact is undisputable.

According to a former minister, Computer village generates about $2 billion annually; the community also generates over 60 million naira in levies for the Ikeja metropolitan area.

A quick visit to computer village would leave you astonished as to the hundreds of young adults working across different layers of the service sectors. Some are marketers feeding the technicians with customers needing gadget repairs and equally feeding the sellers with buyers.

It's an amazing ecosystem! However don't be fooled, you could easily get your hands burnt in computer village. Many today have sour tales of purchase gone wrong. Numerous times, the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) has had to raid the community. Personally, I have also had my own fair share of awry experiences at Computer Village, but today isn't the time for story telling.

As His Excellency, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode reemphasized the Government's age long stance to relocate Computer Village to Kantagora in Abule Egba area of the State, the news has been greeted with nostalgia in Lagos. Some are of the opinion the state should retain her initial master plan designating the area as a residential place, while others especially in the business community think computer village in her present community could be transformed and remodeled into a hive of innovation and a hub for tech startups.

Today, in the business community a number of strategic meetings are taking place to see if the current Computer Village can be salvaged. This is important because much of the growth of computer village has been fueled by creativity, spontaneity and deregulation. In contrast today, Silicon valley, California is home to the world's leading tech companies such as Apple, HP, Adobe, Twitter, Facebook etc. Silicon Valley has enriched her metropolitan area so much so that the combination of San Jose, Santa Clara and southern bay's GDP of $235 billion is nearly equal to Ireland's entire GDP of $238 Billion. Silicon Valley is also home to 74 billionaires in USD. A combination of Apple and Facebook employ about 44,000 people.

Can the Computer Village of Otigba community become Nigeria's Silicon Valley?

Whatever the outcome may become in the near future, one thing is clear, individuals working in Computer Village are averse to the idea of relocating to Kantagora. It is in fact unclear whether the Computer Village we know can be replicated elsewhere. Whatever the case, if it survives it would be a product of a deliberate attempt to save it by the Government and private sector. Its impact will be phenomenal!

Thanks for the educative post. But its rather unfortunate that some folks will come here, instead of making sensible comments or constructive criticism if need be, they'll use it as an avenue for tribal bashing and abuse.
For your information, Computer village has all the tribes in Nigeria fully represented including foreigners.

Let's learn to live as one as we've always been doing.

I have cases like these of people too close to me. I have a brother who had caught the wife on several occasions cheating on him. I pleaded with him not to let it filter into the ears of other members of the family because we all loved her. Recently she was caught again. I stepped in as usual but this time she promised never to repeat that we should call the attention of her dad if she is ever caught again.
I will suggest you sit her down and ask her where you have actually gotten it wrong with her. Probably it could be she is not getting enough sex from you. It might even be that she was influenced by bad friends Or that she's the type that always feel the urge for sex at the sight of a masculine figure. I think she needs help.
If she can open up then you'll now know what step to take.

Family / Handling The Troubles Of Life by Sammy1932(m): 6:44am On Sep 14, 2018
10 BEST WAYS OF GETTING OUT OF LIFE'S DIFFICULT SITUATIONS.

Life in itself is full of troubles. No human is exempted from its attack. And life's trouble does not have respect or regard for age, tribe or tongues, colour or nations, or even the size of your bank account. Every one is prone to trials. Have you heard of the saying, " the rich also cry?."
This post is not amplify life's troubles but to expose its vulnerability by letting us know that every difficult situation has its solutions. And we want to restrict ourselves on ways of providing solution and not to amplify it.

#1. PRAY.
This is an age long practise that has proven a perfect means of combating life's ugly situations. Since every human believes in a deity and its powers over the universe. Faith when exercised in such deities has proven to be an anti dote to the problems of life. There is always the soothing feelings of calm, hope and peace that's often experienced when you've finished praying in faith.
Are you going thru hell right now? I urge you to pray. You will be surprised on the outcome.

#2. Seek Counsel:
One out of many reason most people gets defeated in problems is because they kept their problems to themselves. No problem is new on the earth! Someone somewhere had experienced it and conquered it.
Talk to an elder, a priest, counselor, a professional, mentor etc. Don't keep a sealed lips! Someone somewhere has the answer to that trouble.

#3. Read Books.
Unfortunately, this is one of the best but unpopular means of combating challenges of life.
Look for books that talks about whatever you are going thru and read. Within the pages you will find answers to your questions.
I had a friend who had always used this method to solve his personal life troubles.

#4. Be Positive.
Learn to be positive regardless how you feel. You need to take absolute control of thoughts and imaginations flooding your mind during the trying period.
Positivity will give you an edge over negative situations. It may not be easy but with discipline it will surely pay off.
Remember the saying, "It pays to be positive!."

#5. Avoid negative associations.
This is the undoing of many when confronted with challenges.
Avoid friends or company who are quick to point always point out the problem or your faults/ weakness without providing the solution. They are quick to judge you based on what you are going thru but don't have an answer to the questions on ground. They are not helping you nor the situation. Keep them at arms length.

#7. Do not be Afraid.
Handle your fears at this time. Fear is a silent killer. It has killed lots of people than the problem itself. Fear itself, has a way of becoming a reality if not handled.
The problem is 50% solved when fear is curtailed.

#8. Watch your words.
Many may not know this, but your choice of words is 80% contributor to the whatever be the outcome of your life.
Avoid negative talks both in private and public. Always speak positive words. Speak positive words contrary to your negative circumstances.
As you avoid negative people, so also avoid the use of negative words.

#9. Be Patient.
Every Problem has its expiry date.
After all said and done, learn to be patient.
For tough times never last but tough people do.

#10. Be Happy.
Make yourself happy. Do whatever you know gives you joy or happiness. Catch your fun at every given opportunity. For that's the ultimate secret. You may not have control over what life may throw at you but you can decide you ain't going to allow it rob you of your happiness.
Life is short, spend it with happiness.

Family / Words Are Powerful by Sammy1932(m): 6:08am On Sep 13, 2018
THE POWER OF WORDS

A true story.....

Two girls got on a bus and they started talking to each other.
“Did you hear that Sarah got engaged yesterday?”
“No, I never knew that!”
“That’s amazing that Sarah got engaged!!”
“But she is so sloppy and unorganized! How is she going to run a household?”
“She is never on time. Also, she cooked for us once and her food was terrible! Her new husband is going to starve!!”
“She spends money faster than she receives it. How will she get through the month?”

So it went, on and on and on. Behind the two girls was another lady who suddenly spoke up.
“I am sorry to interrupt you girls but I wanted to introduce myself. My son just got engaged to Sarah. Now that I know this information, I will tell my son everything that you said about Sarah and he must break off the engagement immediately. I will also tell all my friends how grateful I am to you girls for letting me know what Sarah is really like”.
The girls were shocked. They started to stutter and struggled to find the right words.
“No, No” they said with trepidation. Please do not let your son break the engagement.”
“Sarah is wonderful! She will make a great mother! She really will!”
“She is so warm, friendly and caring”.
“We were just talking. We never meant her any harm”. “Please don’t break the engagement” they pleaded.
However, the woman was adamant.
“Thank you, but based on what you said, I will make every effort to break it up as soon as possible. The girl you described sounds like a terrible person. I will inform my son immediately.”

The girls were horrified and crushed. After a short silence, the lady turned around to the girls and said “I am not the boy’s mother, but imagine if I was?”
“Do you know the damage you could have caused to this couple? You almost destroyed a potential family just because you had nothing else to talk about?”
“Words either build or destroy, use them wisely” the woman said sternly and with that she got off the bus.

This story should terrify us all.
The reason for this is because it is so easy to talk all the time without any concern for the consequences. However, unknowingly and unwittingly, we could say things that have a far reaching impact and will tangibly cause distress and pain to others and to us as the speaker.

Part of our problem is that we don't think before we talk.
Communicating in a harsh and acidic way can destroy and debilitate a person for life.

Author's advice: Words, either oral or written are all powerful:
#Before you type or post on social media, think of the consequences.
#Before you say another word, think about the result it will have on both your audience and yourself.
#Let your words heal and not hurt.
#Unspoken words can't hurt your stomach

Health / Unpopular Tips To Weight Loss by Sammy1932(m): 7:46am On Sep 12, 2018
4 COOKING MISTAKES THAT ARE MAKING YOU GAIN WEIGHT.

Yes, cooking and eating at home is better than eating outside, but not if you are making these cooking mistakes. These could actually hamper your weight loss goals.

Have you decided to start cooking at home to a avoid eating outside? That’s a great first step to healthy eating. For those looking to do weight loss, cooking at home is highly recommended. After all, eating restaurant food frequently can cause massive health problems like infections,
diabetes , cancer, weight gain and others because of the cooking ingredients and methods used. When you cook at home, you are more in control of your diet because you know for sure what you use and you are also more hygienic. But what exactly you are cooking and how you are cooking can make a huge impact on the nutritional value of food and its calorific content. These are some of the most common mistakes you could be making while making food at home:

1) You reuse cooking oil: All of us have been guilty of reusing cooking oil because we don’t want chuck away the oil immediately after frying. This could lead to several health issues because reusing oil for frying can create free radicals that could be carcinogenic and also lead to increase in bad cholesterol levels blocking the arteries. Do not reuse oil. Throw away or better still bake or shallow fry when possible.

2) You eat while you cook: All of us taste food while cooking to check for seasoning, consistency, texture and spiciness. Some of us can’t help but nibble while cooking because we can get hungry while cooking! All of this can lead you to pile on extra calories. Keeping your tasting to a minimum and make it a point not to keep any snacks around while you are cooking.

3) You think of getting “healthier” alternatives, cook with vanaspati and margarine: These are not any lesser in calories. Did you know that one tbsp butter contains 103.5 cal, one tbsp ghee contains 85.6 cals, one tbsp Vanaspati ghee contains 122.4 cals and one tbsp margarine contains 108 calories.

4) You replace white bread with brown bread in all your recipes and think that that is healthy: Instead of brown bread look for the label ‘100 per cent wholegrain’ bread. This bread is full of fibre, vitamins and is devoid of maida. This bread will keep you full for longer. You must know how to read food labels correctly.

Education / Bill Gate Advise For Young People by Sammy1932(m): 10:55am On Sep 11, 2018
Bill Gates shares his 2 best pieces of advice for young people headed back to school.

Though he's a college dropout, billionaire Bill Gates has some advice for those who are headed back to school: chose your friends carefully and appreciate diversity.
"I can't help but be excited for all of the students who are headed #backtoschool," says Gates in an Instagram post on Tuesday.
Gates, who famously dropped out of Harvard , is a lifelong learner and despite his own trajectory, thinks, generally, people should in stay in school.
"Although I dropped out of college and got lucky pursuing a career in software, getting a degree is a much surer path to success," Gates wrote on his blog in 2015 .
"College graduates are more likely to find a rewarding job, earn higher income, and even, evidence shows, live healthier lives than if they didn't have degrees. They also bring training and skills into America's workforce, helping our economy grow and stay competitive. That benefits everyone," Gates wrote.
Here is the advice for students from Gates. "The sooner you can do these two things, if you don't already, the richer your life will be," he says.

1. Pay attention to the people with whom you spend your time
"Surround yourself with people who challenge you, teach you, and push you to be your best self," says Gates on Instagram.
It's a point of view Gates' billionaire buddy
Warren Buffett believes, too.
"You will move in the direction of the people that you associate with. So it's important to associate with people that are better than yourself," said Buffett, speaking alongside Gates at Columbia University in 2017 . "You want to associate with people who are the kind of person you'd like to be."

2. Respect a diversity of skills
"Learn to recognize and appreciate people's different talents," says Gates on Instagram.
This is a lesson it took Gates himself a while to learn.
In February, Bill and Melinda Gates spoke with "Hamilton" composer Lin-Manuel Miranda at Hunter College in Manhattan, New York. The conversation included a question from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg : "If you could go back and give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be? Asking for a friend."
In response, Gates said he wished he had better understood the value of different kinds of intelligence.
"I was so naive about different skill sets. I thought if somebody had a high IQ, they could be good at everything. And the idea that you needed to blend these different types of skills together, that always continued to surprise me," said the
Microsoft co-founder.
"There was this simple idea of smartness and it could go and solve everything — I wish I had known better than to think that."

BACK 2 SCHOOL.

7 MAJOR REASONS THAT COULD INFORM THE CHOICE OF A NIGERIAN PARENT IN THE SCHOOL TO ENROLL THEIR CHILDREN
As most schools within the country are warming up to resume a new academic session, parents make different decisions on the choice of school their children will attend at the beginning of each session. The choices from observations boils down to a lot of factors which I have carefully analysed.

1. Academic performance:
If the children's academic performance is poor or below the expectations of the parents, the chances of changing the school of their ward is very high.

2. The educational system:
A school that has unqualified or poorly trained teaching staff will definitely birth poor academic products. Hence, most parents will want to look for a better alternative.

3. Low tuition fees:
Parents with low income will most likely look the way of schools with very low school fees not minding the quality of education churned out by these schools.

4. School facilities and learning environment:
These is one of the major deciding factor for most average income parents. Most Nigerian parents fall easily for schools with beautiful looking structures, laboratories and friendly learning environment not minding the cost. And most schools that has the financial wherewithal will go all the way out to ensure they lack none of these or much more.

5. TRANSPORTATION FACILITY:
Most parents that are either too busy with job at the office, or those that usually comes back late, also parents who usually prefer their children transported safely to school and back home would make their choice based on these.

6. PROXIMITY TO THEIR HOME:
Some parents detest the idea of their ward attending school that is far away from home. They prefer a school that's within the environment they reside. The reasons for this decision varies from one parent to the other.

7. BOARDING SCHOOL:
This type of learning is as old as the idea of school in itself. The rich and average income parents favour this category of academic learning. Its a general belief amongst parents that is favourable disposed to this idea that pupils in boarding schools are thoroughly bred in the academic curriculum or learning since they spend all their time within the school learning environment.

7 MAJOR REASONS THAT AFFECTS THE DECISIONS OF NIGERIAN PARENTS IN THEIR CHOICE OF SCHOOLS FOR THEIR CHILDREN

Parents make different decisions on the choice of school their children will attend at the beginning of each session. The choices from observations boils down to a lot of factors which I will like to carefully analyse.

7. PREFERENCE FOR BOARDING SCHOOL:
This type of learning is as old as the idea of school in itself. The rich and average income parents favour this category of academic learning. Its a general belief amongst parents that is favourable disposed to this idea that pupils in boarding schools are thoroughly bred in the academic curriculum or learning since they spend all their time within the school learning environment.
