Landing gist
Nigeria to Montreal
Airline - Ethiopian Airlines

*Checkin - Nigeria
I was only asked for my passport which was scanned and then I proceeded to checkin my bags
I had 4 bags in total
2 to checkin both bags didn’t overweigh (I was even angry because I could have carried more things)
2 as carryon
Then I went out to say goodbyes to my family only my mum was allowed in.
Came back in and went to departure gates
Guess what I forgot one of bags where I met with customs.
I don already reach the gate before I remember
See me running like anybody could put drugs in my bag
Thank God I met my bag where I left it.
I returned back to the gates because it was almost boarding time.
My flight time to Addis Ababa was for 1:40 but we didn’t take off till 2:15pm there about.
Ethiopian airlines aircrew fine o Choi I just Dey feed my eyes.
They served us rice with either chicken or fish
I picked chicken and then one small bowl with Something like rice as I put am for mouth I nearly vomit. Local girl like me
I kept drinking white wine in order for me to be able to sleep I go drink reach 6 bottles in total.
We landed Addis Ababa and it was cold not freezing cold but yeah it was cold
We didn’t stay long here we went straight to the boarding gates to head out to Dublin.
This flight was smaller than the one from Nigeria
No enough leg room
Plus I had two old couples sitting beside me
The woman took my spot that’s the window sit
I been Dey vex but they’re so old I couldn’t even tell the woman to move.
Now this flight has to be the most uncomfortable flight I’ve ever been on
Those old couples stressed my life in fact people for plane wey Dey my zone been Dey feel sorry for me.
Guys I suffered
I had to take care of them
I stood up more than 30 times I may be exaggerating but trust me I nearly wan cry.
Because of the weather the flight to Dublin was very bumpy we even reach one stage pilot begin Dey announce na so plane start to Dey shake.
See prayers ah because na on top sea we Dey.
We landed Dublin for refueling we didn’t come down from the aircraft.
Then we headed for Toronto which took 6hrs from Dublin
Flight was smooth just small turbulence here and there but it was okay.
We landed Toronto and I was like Omo na me be this o
I don japaaaaaa!!!
Then my next flight to Montreal was for 9:25am we landed in Toronto as at 8:40am
We were asked to sit somewhere and from there move to where we face immigration.
But as the inpatient person that I am
I walked up to the guy calling for international students that my next flight is for 9:25am is there any chance I can cut the line
He was reasonable enough
So be allowed me and 5 others to go to the immigration.
We were asked for our Letter of Introduction and was told to use the self declaration machine.
Then they started calling for our names and was given our study permits
But I still queued to be asked questions by the immigration officers.
Now na here I come Dey fear because I applied for Form A and my tuition hasn’t been debited so I don’t have my tuition receipt.
One immigration officer na woman she no get chills at all
She no Dey even smile
She was asking for more questions and also documents
I just Dey pray say God abeg I no want enter this woman front.
When it was my turn na her side free as I was approaching her she told me to hold on
Low key I was like ah thank God o
Then the man next to her was free
I sharply go meet the man
He was so cool
He asked the of my university
The location, I told him Quebec
He asked if I could speak French I said just a bit
Then my passport is expiring next year
He told me to quickly renew my passport so I can extend my study permit.
Then he said welcome to Canada enjoy your stay he sha stamp something and I left
Only for me to miss my flight to Montreal and was rescheduled for 6pm.
I sha explored the airport went out to see how cold it was. Omoooooooooooooooo it was so freaking cold!!!!!!!!
But I was excited
I took pictures, called my family
Bought something to eat.
Then headed to Montreal
So far it’s been good
It snowed for like 2days straight
I just Dey snap anyhow.
Little advice don’t wear shoes because you have to remove those shoes at every checkpoint
Which was very uncomfortable for me.
Carry snacks o
That airplane food get as e be
My belle just Dey pain me.

Hi everyone,

Please I have two questions

1. My passport has been stamped by IRCC, and I plan on traveling to Canada in the middle of December. My course is a two-year course, my passport expires in November 2023 and IRCC gave me approval till October 2023. Can I still try to get a new passport before traveling? Or should I just wait till I get there? I have a plug that can help me get a new passport in like a week, will I need to send that new one to IRCC again for stamping? Please advice.

2. I was supposed to resume in September 2022 but because ppr came late, my school offered to defer my start date to Jan 2023. Do I need to send the new letter of acceptance to IRCC? Please advise

Can someone answer this?

Greetings everyone,
Do I have to pay all my tuition for a semester from Nigeria in order for me to be allowed entry at the airport?
I was going to pay 80% of my first semester tuition fee then complete it before deadline.

If you use a bank app, make a transfer and export the pdf. Print it and attach it to the documents in your envelope.

If you don't, go to Sterling Bank and make a deposit with the inclusion of the SMS fee. You should be making a total payment of ₦10,400. Scan, print the deposit slip and attach it to your documents.

Thank you for your response

Congrats may Canada favor you
I love when landing gists comes with pictures e dey give me special joy
Toceen2022:
Hi guys, sorry this is actually coming late. The unimaginable stress at MMIA and trying hard to find my feet here makes it difficult for me to come online and drop my landing gist on time.

LANDING GIST
LAGOS - FRANKFURT - VANCOUVER - VICTORIA
Airline - Lufthansa / Air Canada
Date - August 18th/19th 2022.
Time - 11pm.

I never expected the rigorous stress I went through at MMIA. Got to the airport early at 6:45pm for 11pm flight, and went straight to weigh my luggage. I knew beforehand that I have 31 and 33, and 7 for carry-on bag, which I believe I will upgrade to 32, as per Lufthansa said it's possible. But their scale showed 32, 35 & 8kg. That is equally fine, I had no problem upgrading. But the lady who attended to me was just too crazy and started saying rubbish... That my only option is to look for extra bag and make it 3 bags, not exceeding 23kg each and I'll pay for one extra luggage. I never knew another wahala is underway. I bought a bag reshuffle and I got 23, 25, and 18. Luckily another staff told me to make it 32kg (pay for upgrade), 23kg (normal weight) and 12kg (I never knew passangers are entitled to 2 free carry on bags 8kg and 15kg (this can also be checked in). So I later paid to upgrade for the 32kg.

Now, this is where the stress began. Going through documents verification, my QR/Barcode on vaccination card only showed the 2nd Jab and date, the 1st was blank, because of that I was told I won't be allowed to board. (I've been fully vaccinated since Sept last year, and I do checked online myself even few weeks ago I checked, everything was showing perfectly well). I was told to call the number on the card if they can quickly rectify it, or go to the health service kiosk in the airport if anything can be done. That was how the trouble started o. Nobody could helped out, I was there calling the primary health care number on my card, moving from one place to another for over 2-3 hours. Nothing was done. Stressed and exhausted, I gave up, went back to the Lufthansa stand believing I'll have to book for another day, I asked for refund even if it's 70% (at least it's not that I didn't show up at the airport, so I should be entitled for a refund). It was at this point my brother in Ontario sent a screenshot on NPHCD site showing I'm fully vaccinated. I quickly scanned my barcode, still same issue, but on their site, using the personal identification number, it's showing the my full vaccination details. At this point, I reassured myself that Nigeria is truly a failed country. How could NPHCD site show different information on a single identification number. With the stress I went through, I cursed the country. Up till this moment if I scanned the barcode, it only show 1 jab, but if check on the site with the identification number, it shows the 2 jab. I was literally the last person on board. But luckily my window seat was still reserved for me.

I couldn't sleep much from Lagos to Frankfurt because of serious headache. In fact, I didn't enjoy the flight at all because of the stress. But after taking water and snack, I felt better and relaxed. We got to Germany - Frankfurt in the morning, around 6:30 am and from that point till my final destination, no single stress for me. The airport is massive, in fact, na train I take to my next Gate Porte (B-22). Went through security check and seated at the Gate Porte with other passengers going to Vancouver. Connected to the free Wi-Fi and made series of video calls. Our flight was delayed for about 2 hours.

Frankfurt to Vancouver was 10+ hours, so I slept, listened to music, watched a movie (Fatherhood) and before I know it, we are ready to land in Vancouver. I went to the self declaration machine, scanned my passport, all information appeared and printed out a receipt. I actually knew my bags would be sent to my final destination but a security officer said it would be in Vancouver. I waited for almost an hour and went to Lufthansa kiosk, the lady checked my details and said it's already sent to Victoria Airport. I went to immigration, spent about 15 minutes and my study permit was out (they only asked for my passport and LOI).

I missed my flight from Vancouver - Victoria. So, I went to the Air Canada kiosk and the lady issued a new boarding pass immediately without kobo. The flight was a short one, around 25 min, so before we knew it we are already in Victoria. When to pick my bags and everything was intact. CBSA didn't check anything, so everything I carried got to my final destination. Went out of the airport, took a yellow taxi to my airbnb accommodation. I was charged $65. If you know anyone that can pick you up at the airport, it'll be nice and save you some money.

Presently, I've got my SIN, Sim card, School ID and Bus Pass (till April 2023), opened bank account, got a permanent accommodation, booked appointment for BCID (British Columbia Identity Card) and preparing for my knowledge test so as to get my driver's licence asap.

Sincerely, if not for the wahala I went through at MMIA, it would have been a 100% stress-free journey. I couldn't even say goodbye to my people, couldn't snap a single shot with my wife and daughter. That thing still dey vex me till this moment.

Things are truly working here, pedestrian owns the road, not drivers. They must wait for you to walk through. Beautiful locations. Deers, squirrels and animals moving around and crossing the road, they no fear say someone go hunt them down
You go see car open mouth, Tesla na like Toyota, you go see one nearly every corner.
Many electric cars and products I've never seen or hear before. Infact, it's really good to experience living in a working system.

I wish everyone hoping and waiting a successful outcome. And to those that'll be flying soon, safe travel. Anyone coming to Victoria can reach out and I'll see how I can be of help/assistance. Thank you

Please what’s the best way and cheapest way to fly to Quebec ?
Plus the flights I’m seeing has stops in America which I know you need a transit visa for that.
Any other route that doesn’t involve America ?
