CrimeAbba Kyari: Hushpuppi Contacted Us To Help A Friend Recover N8m by SamuelOamen(op): 1:36pm On Aug 04, 2021
In what appears to be a new twist, suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari, in a now-deleted post, said Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi contacted his team to help recover N8 million for a friend.

The Nation reports Kyari has been in the eye of the storm after Hushpuppi disclosed he gave Kyari money to arrest and jail “one of his rivals in Nigeria after a dispute over a $1.1 million scam on Qatari businesspeople.”

But in a post on his verified Facebook account, Kyari denied receiving money from Hushpuppi.

Kyari also said later Hushpuppi “saw some of my native clothes and caps on my social media page and he said he likes them and he was connected to the person selling the clothes and he sent about N300k directly to the person’s account”.

But in a new twist, Kyari edited his now-deleted post on Tuesday evening, checks by The Nation shows.

He removed the part where he said Hushpuppi sent N300, 000 for clothes but claimed his office was reached a second time to help recover N8 million.

“Nobody demanded or collected any money from Abbas Hushpuppi. He can be interviewed publicly in the presence of the world media by the people holding him to confirm this,” Kyari wrote in the new post.

“He also called for another case in June 2020 and complained about a financial transaction with a second person whom he said his friend sent N8 million to and pleaded for his friend’s money to be recovered. He sent transaction slips and other evidences to prove their case against the person.

“All these can be verified from the Hushpuppi since he is still in custody. And it can be verified from the person who collected N8 million from Hushpuppi’s friend whom they complained about is alive and is in Nigeria.”

PoliticsYoruba Nation To Present Case At 76th UN General Assembly by SamuelOamen(op): 10:21am On Jul 21, 2021
Supporters of Yoruba Nation have vowed not to relent in their campaign for self-determination, declaring they will present their case at the 76th UN General Assembly in September.

The Nation reports the umbrella body of Yoruba self-determination groups, Ilana Omo Oodua, had endorsed the ongoing petition being pushed by the Nigerian Indigenous Nationalities Alliance for Self-Determination (NINAS), which urged the Federal Government to conduct a referendum.

One of the leaders of Ilana Omo Odua, Prof. Wale Adeniran, in a zoom conversation organised by UK-based Heritage Multimedia TV on Tuesday evening monitored by The Nation, explained the UN General Assembly would be an opportunity to explain the Yoruba Nation agitation to world leaders.

Adeniran, a pioneer Commissioner of Education in Osun State, and former Director of Institute of African Studies at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife disclosed he would speak to Prof. Banji Akintoye with respect to participating in the session as parts of efforts to consolidate the ongoing struggle.

Checks by The Nation shows that the 76th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 76) will open on Tuesday, 14 September 2021 at New York, USA.

The first day of the high-level General Debate will be Tuesday, 21 September 2021 and session will end Thursday, 30 September 2021.

Adeniran said: "You've hit it right in front of the head, that's a golden opportunity for us to present our case forcefully, before the entire world.

"So that one week, impress it on all Yoruba people all over the world to descend on New York, and the UN general assembly.

"I am going to point out to Prof. Akintoye that we would have to be part of the event in US."

While giving an update of the Yourba Nation petition submitted to the International Criminal Court (ICC), he said: "The ball is in our court to begin to push our case and continue to shout it.

"We've submitted our letter and it has been acknoweled, it is now left for us to embark on aggressive propaganda for the ICC to look into case, you know they are humans too.

"That we have filed a petition, is not sufficient, we have to keep making noise about it."

Akintoye, who spoke at the virtual session, charged all supporters not give up on the struggle.

While he commended the efforts of media in supporting the struggle, he expressed dismay over those spreading false rumors and false reportage about Sunday Igboho.

PoliticsFG Declares Tuesday, Wednesday Public Holidays by SamuelOamen(op): 6:48pm On Jul 15, 2021
The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, July 20 and Wednesday July 21, 2021 as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government.

He congratulated all Muslim faithful and Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora on the celebration.

“I call on Muslims to continue to imbibe the spirit of love, peace, kindness and sacrifice, as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) and to also use the period to pray for peace, unity, prosperity and the stability of the country, considering the challenges of insecurity we face at the moment. These mainly are bandits in the North West and North Central, insurgents in the North East, kidnappers, armed robbers, ethnic agitators and sundry criminals in other parts of the country,” Aregbesola said.

The Minister, in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Shuaib Belgore, assured the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is “committed to the security of lives and property of every Nigerian, and empowering the citizens for successful living, the provisions of social investments programmes and adequate security in the schools, especially with the spate of innocent school children being targets of kidnapping” .

Aregbesola, while wishing Muslim faithfuls a happy Eid-el Kabir celebration, advised all Nigerians to take responsibility by reporting any suspicious individuals and criminal activities to law enforcement agencies, especially during this festival.

He also called on all Nigerians to observe all Covid-19 protocols, particularly the non-pharmaceutical measures – wearing facemasks, hand washing and social distancing - designed to keep transmission of the disease at bay. “We must all take responsibility for containment of the pandemic during this year’s festival,” he said.

PoliticsCourt Bars IGP From Arresting Oba Elegushi by SamuelOamen(op): 5:59pm On Jul 15, 2021
A Lagos High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) on Thursday barred the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) from arresting the Elegushi of Ikate Kingdom in Lagos Oba Shaheed Ademola Elegushi and two others.

Justice Gafar Safari ruled the order subsists pending the hearing and determination of a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by them.

The judge made the order in a suit by the monarch and two members of the Elegushi royal family - Chief Abdulahi Elegushi and Prince Akeem Elegushi - accusing the defendants of harassment, manhunt and attempt to arrest them over a civil land matter.

Joined alongside the IGP are Bela Vista Property and Development Company Ltd; Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kolo Yusuf; DSP Ibrahim Agu; one Supol Udofia and Lagos Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice as the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th respondents respectively.

The royal family also accused the respondents of an alleged plot to grab land belonging to the family at the Eti-Osa Local Government Area (LGA).

The applicants alleged while the suit is pending the defendants resorted to self-help, including by detailing mobile policemen from Mopol 46 to the land with instruction to arrest any member of Elegushi royal family found anywhere on or near the land.

They further accused th IG of forging a police report that was presented to the court ceding ownership of their land to Bela Vista property.

At the resumed hearing of the matter on Thursday, the monarch and his co-applicants, through their lawyer, Mrs. Adepeju Omotayo, informed the judge the police had sent its men to Ikate seeking to arrest them to frustrate the case before the court.

But the first respondent's counsel, Anthony Osara, denied the police had sent its men to arrest the applicants.

The counsel to the second to fifth respondents, Victor Okoye, also urged the court to discountenance the applicants' request for a restraining order, adding the police were never deployed to the house of the royal family to arrest anybody.

In a bench ruling, Justice Safari ordered all the parties to maintain status quo and refrain from doing anything to frustrate the proceedings pending the hearing and determination of the suit.

He adjourned till August 17 for hearing.

PoliticsBREAKING: Uproar As Senate Empowers NCC, NASS To Determine Electronic Transmissi by SamuelOamen(op): 3:33pm On Jul 15, 2021
A resolution by the Senate empowering the National Communications Commission (NCC) to determine that a network is adjudged secured and approved by the National Assembly before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) can transmit election results electronically, on Thursday, led to uproar in the Upper Chamber.

Deputy Chief Whip Aliyu Abdullahi had during consideration of the Electoral Act (amendment) Bill report by the Senate proposed that Section 52(3) reads: “The Commission may transmit results of elections by electronic means where and when practicable” to read that “the Commission may transmit results of elections by electronic means provided that the network has been adjudged secured by the NCC and approved by the National Assembly.”

The amendment sought was upheld by the Senate after it was put to voice vote.

Senator Bassey Albert Akpan also proposed an amendment that Section 52(3) of the Bill as contained in the Bill which reads: “The Commission may transmit results of elections by electronic means where and when practicable” be upheld.

The proposal was defeated when it was put to voice vote.

This development threw the session into an uproar and rowdiness as the Senate was practically divided along Northern and Southern lines.

Almost all the Senators were on their feet while proceeding was temporarily halted.

The development later forced Senate President Ahmad Lawan to order a closed session at 1.55pm.

The Senate later resumed its consideration of the Electoral Act Bill report at 14:10pm after the closed session.

Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, raised a point of Order citing order 73 of the Senate Standing Orders.

He called for division of Senate to enable Nigerians know who opposed or supported the proposed amendment by Senator Akpan.

After a lot of back and forth, Lawan agreed the Senate be divided to determine the provision of Section 52(3).

The voting is ongoing.

PoliticsFact-Check: FG Did Not Declare Three-Day Holiday For Eid-Ul-Adha by SamuelOamen(op): 3:00pm On Jul 15, 2021
Claim: Viral reports on several news blogs and broadcast on social media platforms especially Whatsapp stated the Federal Government on Tuesday announced three-day Eid-ul-Adha holidays from July 20 to 22.

Verdict: This is false and misleading because the Federal Government is yet to make any official pronouncement or declaration for the Eid-ul-Adha holiday in Nigeria as at time of report.

Full Text:

Several news blog had reported the Federal Government on Tuesday announced three-day Eidul Adha holidays from July 20 to 22.

Similarly, different misleading messages broadcasted on social media platforms especially Whatsapp also carried the same content, stating the Federal Government had declared July 20, 21 and 22 as public holidays.

One of the viral posts seen by our correspondent on Whatsapp tagged "forwarded many times" by the instant messaging app.

What is Eid-ul-Adha?

Eid al-Adha is the latter of the two official Islamic holidays celebrated within Islam.

It honours the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to God's command.

Checks by The Nation revealed the viral news had emanated from some news agencies in Pakistan, including The Express Tribune.

The viral news had stated that the Government of Pakistan decided that it would grant a three-day holiday on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha, Geo News reported, citing sources.

As per the report, the holidays will fall from July 20 to July 22 — marking the three days of Eid.

Sources said that the Interior Ministry had sent a summary to the Prime Minister, suggesting a four-day holiday on Eid-ul-Adha.

In case of three holidays, employees will have to resume offices on the third day of Eid, sources said.

But this information has gone viral in Nigeria with many news blog misleading readers.

Verification

Checks by The Nation showed that Federal Government is yet to make any official pronouncement or declaration of when the holidays will be observed.

The usual trend is for the Federal Government to declare two work-days as public holidays especially for Muslim festivals.

The Nation reports the Sultan of Sokoto and President General Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar had declared July 11, as the first day of Dhul-Hijja 1442AH.

Dhul-Hijja is the 12th month of the Islamic calendar.

Over time, the usual channel used in communicating public holidays is through the Ministry of Interior.

The Minister of Interior is expected to make the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government.

The Sultan is an authority who makes official declaration and also gives advisory on how and when Muslims will observe their festivals/breaks.

When The Nation reached out to the Ministry of Interior, it debunked the viral dates and noted the authentic dates will made be public before the end of the week ahead of the festival scheduled for next week.

Conclusion

The claim that the Federal Government declared a three-day holiday is false and misleading. The Federal Government is yet to make any official pronouncement for the Eid-ul-Adha holiday in Nigeria as at time of report.

"So somebody sent a message to DSS, to get to Ibadan and bring Sunday Igboho's body to Abuja.

"The target was chief Sunday Igboho, the target was to kill him before the Lagos mega rally, they came heavily well prepared

"They came 72 hours before the mega rally, if you read the DSS statement, you'll know they were prepared to kill him or label him as a criminal."

Koiki also alleged that DSS officials took away a cat when they raided the house

According to him, operatives thought Igboho turned into the cat to escape arrest.

He said: “Chief Sunday Igboho escaped not because he was stronger but God rescued him. How will they say that they saw one dollar?

“They can label anyone but we will not back down. They want Igboho dead. The target was to kill him but they failed.

“They took one of his cats away, thinking he transformed into a cat during the attack to escape. All the allegations against Igboho should be for terrorists killing people in the country.”

PoliticsNigeria Needs A Leader With Iron Fist Like Buhari, Says Femi Adesina by SamuelOamen(op): 12:14pm On Jun 04, 2021
By Samuel Oamen

Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has stated the nation needs an iron fist leader like his principal.

Such a leader like Buhari, he said, will be able to whip into line those misbehaving in any part of the country.

In his weekly article titled ‘ I suddenly remembered why I fell in love with the President’ Adesina said the President’s statement to deal with troublemakers like the days of the Civil war shouldn’t be portrayed as being genocidal as no leader worth his salt will watch while law and order breaks down.

According to him, the message the President was trying to pass across was that even though every region has a grouse about the state of the nation, murder and mayhem is not an option to resolve the issues.

He wrote: “What our country needs at this time is iron and steel. An alchemy of GMB and PMB. We are in a democracy, yes, but democracy is no byword for lawlessness.

“If anybody misbehaves in any part, repeat, ANY PART, of the country, they need to be whipped into line. The nation needs not go into a tailspin because some people bear giant sized grudges in their hearts.

“By the way, is there any part of the country that does not have one grievance or the other? Is the next option then to capsize the boat of the country? Any leader that has sworn to uphold the Constitution would not open his eyes, and see it happen”.

“Leaders must do whatever they should do to maintain peace and tranquility in their countries. Their intentions will always be misinterpreted and misrepresented. No matter. The good of the larger majority must be considered at all times. North, South, East, West, anarchy should never be condoned, no matter what some people may say”.

He went on: “I like how Moyosore Oyetunji, a passionate Buharist on Facebook summarized latest developments: “When he pleaded with you to eschew violence, you accused him of becoming a motivational speaker, instead of the General that he is. Now he has decided to be it, you are crying. Please, what exactly do you want from him?”

“President Buhari is not genocidal, and can’t ever be accused of such intentions. But a leader worth his salt cannot look on, and watch law and order break down irretrievably. It is not about a people, or region. It is about the country he took an oath to keep together.

“Every region has one grouse or the other against the state of our union. But murder and mayhem should never be an option in resolving matters. That is the message of President Buhari, and it should be the message of every good Nigerian.”

PoliticsBREAKING: Twitter’s Role In Nigeria Suspicious – FG by SamuelOamen(op): 3:54pm On Jun 02, 2021
The federal government has lashed out at social media giant, Twitter, for playing alleged double standards on issues concerning Nigeria's domestic issues, describing the company's role in Nigeria as suspect.

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, reacting to questions over the reported deletion of President Muhammadu Buhari's tweets reminiscing Nigerians' experiences during the civil and warning to armed secessionists in the Southeast region of the country on Tuesday, said Twitter had not been fair to Nigeria.

According to the Minister, while the social media giant had conveniently ignored inciting tweets by the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, and his cohorts, displaying the same biases it did during the #ENDSARS protest, where government and private properties were looted and set on fire, all in the name of right to protest, it found the President's tweets offensive.

The President, in series of tweets on Tuesday, via his verified Twitter handle, @MBuhari, had tweeted “many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.”

Twitter, however, deleted the tweet, stating, “this Tweet violated the Twitter Rules”.

Reacting to Twitter's action, Mohammed said “Twitter may have its own rules; it’s not the universal rule. If Mr. President, anywhere in the world feels very bad and concern about a situation, he is free to express such views. Now, we should stop comparing apples with oranges. If an organisation is proscribed, it is different from any other which is not proscribed.

“Two, any organisation that gives directives to its members, to attack police stations, to kill policemen, to attack correctional centres, to kill warders, and you are now saying that Mr. President does not have the right to express his dismay and anger about that? We are the ones guilty of double standards.

"I don’t see anywhere in the world where an organisation, a person will stay somewhere outside Nigeria, and will direct his members to attack the symbols of authority, the police, the military, especially when that organisation has been proscribed. By whatever name, you can’t justify giving orders to kill policemen or to kill anybody you do not agree with,” he said.

PoliticsBREAKING: Twitter Deletes Buhari’s Tweet For ‘violating’ Rules by SamuelOamen(op): 3:10pm On Jun 02, 2021
Twitter has deleted tweet wherein President Muhammadu Buhari threatened to deal with ‘people’ who didn’t learn from the civil war.

Checks by The Nation showed that Buhari’s tweet was deleted for allegedly violating its rules.

“Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War.

“Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand,” Buhari had tweeted on Tuesday.

The president’s tweet was in reaction to widespread attacks on public facilities by unknown arsonists in the South East region.

The tweet however sparked outrage on Tuesday evening with many social media users describing it as ‘genocidal’ and a direct threat to people of the South-East region of Nigeria.

The Nation gathered that several users reported the President’s Twitter account.

In Twitter Rules and policies, the company explains the process of removing a tweet considered to have violated its rules.

“When we determine that a Tweet violated the Twitter Rules, we require the violator to remove it before they can Tweet again. We send an email notification to the violator identifying the Tweet(s) in violation and which policies have been violated. They will then need to go through the process of removing the violating Tweet or appealing our review if they believe we made an error,” it wrote.

PoliticsSenate Passes Bill Abolishing Hnd/bsc Dichotomy by SamuelOamen(op): 2:16pm On Jun 02, 2021
The Senate, on Wednesday, read for the third time and passed a Bill that seeks to end discrimination between First Degrees graduates from universities and Higher National Diploma (HND) holders from polytechnics in the country.

The passage of the Bill followed the consideration of the report of the Senate Joint Committee on Establishment and Public Service Matters; and Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND, during plenary.

Chairman of the Joint Committee, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, in his report, said: “The enactment of the bill to abolish and prohibit discrimination between First Degrees and Higher National Diploma for the purpose of employment in Nigeria will no doubt free holders of HND from stagnation and ensure balanced treatment with their counterparts from other higher tertiary institutions in Nigeria.”

He added that the abolishment of the existing dichotomy between HND holders and graduates of Universities would meet the huge manpower needs of Nigerians, ensure social justice and enhanced corporate governance as well encourage patriotic contributions amongst HND employees in both public and private sectors.

Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, in his contribution, said the passage of the Bill would serve as motivation for polytechnic graduates.

He called on the public and private sectors to ensure the implementation of the Bill’s provisions as soon as it is signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“This particular issue has been in the front burner for a long time. I recall that in the House of Representatives between 2003 and 2007, this was one bill that was so important, and is one way of encouraging our Polytechnic graduates.

“That should not take away from the kind of training they receive, but, in fact, it is supposed to be a motivation for our polytechnic graduates.

“I pray that the Federal Government and all those government agencies and the private sector would start to implement this by the time the President assents to this Bill.”

The Bill which was sponsored by Senator Patrick Ayo Akinyelure seeks to resolve the lingering controversy, discrimination and wage and entry level disparity against HND holder in the public and private sectors of the economy.

It also seeks to promote Nigeria’s technological advancement by encouraging many qualified candidates to pursue polytechnic and technological studies.

It could be recalled that in his lead debate during the second reading of the Bill, Senator Akinyelure had insisted that discrimination against HND holders could ruin the nation’s core policy thrust of evolving a technological and scientifically based society.

Findings, he said, had proved that some polytechnic graduates were in some cases better on the field than their university counterparts.

“A government employment policy that places degree holders ahead of HND holders without recourse to skill and ability of the HND holder thereof does more harm than good to the nation’s development plans,” Akinyelure had said.

PoliticsReligious, Former Political Leaders Plotting To ‘overthrow’ Buhari - Presidency by SamuelOamen(op): 2:48pm On May 04, 2021
The Presidency has alert of an alleged plot by some Nigerians, working with foreign elements, to overthrow the current administration.

In a statement by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the Presidency attributed its allegation to a recent alert by the Department of State Services (DSS).

However, while vowing to decisively deal with the alleged plot and its masterminds, the Presidency reiterated that the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration was legally constituted, following a popular election process.

The Presidency, which categorically pointed at some unnamed religious and former political leaders as masterminds, claimed to be in possession of evidence to prove its allegation of plots to pull the government down.

According to the statement, the Presidency observed that recent agitations by various groups and individuals were actually being orchestrated with the intent to create an atmosphere suiting for passing a vote-of-no-confidence on President Buhari.

It, however, vowed to do all it would take to ensure that the country is kept together throughout the remaining days of the mandate of the current administration in 2023, not minding whose ox would be gored.

"The Department of State Services (DSS), on Sunday alerted on sinister moves by misguided elements to wreak havoc on the government, sovereignty and corporate existence of the country.

"Championed by some disgruntled religious and past political leaders, the intention is to eventually throw the country into a tailspin, which would compel a forceful and undemocratic change of leadership.

"Further unimpeachable evidence shows that these disruptive elements are now recruiting the leadership of some ethnic groups and politicians round the country, with the intention of convening some sort of conference, where a vote of no confidence would be passed on the President, thus throwing the land into further turmoil.

"The caterwauling, in recent times, by these elements, is to prepare the grounds adequately for their ignoble intentions, which are designed to cause further grief for the country.

"The agent provocateurs hope to achieve through artifice and sleight of hands, what they failed to do through the ballot box in the 2019 elections.

"Nigerians have opted for democratic rule, and the only accepted way to change a democratically elected government is through elections, which hold at prescribed times in the country. Any other way is patently illegal, and even treasonable. Of course, such would attract the necessary consequences.

"These discredited individuals and groups are also in cahoots with external forces to cause maximum damage in their own country.

“But the Presidency, already vested with mandate and authority by Nigerians till 2023, pledges to keep the country together, even if some unruly feathers would be ruffled in the process," the statement reads.

PoliticsBREAKING: Senate Shifts Meeting With Service Chiefs, IGP To Thursday by SamuelOamen(op): 12:03pm On May 04, 2021
The Senate on Tuesday shifted its proposed meeting with Service Chiefs, the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Inspector General of Police to Thursday.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan disclosed this at plenary.

Lawan said the security chiefs, who are supposed to brief the Senate, are still engaged at the National Security Council meeting which may extend till Wednesday.

He said: “The briefing will be very crucial, for us to be properly informed and properly guided.

“The only item on the Order Paper on Thursday will be the briefing.”

The Senate last Tuesday, after an exhaustive debate, resolved to invite the heads of the nation’s Armed Forces and other security agencies over the deteriorating security situation in the country.

It had also resolved its leadership should meet with President Muhammdu Buhari, to seek ways of mitigating the security challenges bedeviling the country.

Lawan said: “You will recall that on Wednesday we announced that the Chief of Defence Staff, the Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police and the DG NIA will be coming today at 11.00am to brief the Senate on the security situation.

“Today the National Security Council is continuing its meeting that it started last week. Therefore the invited security heads will not be able to come for the briefing.

“We are not sure if they will finish their meeting today. We assume it could spill to Wednesday too just like it spilled from Thursday to Tuesday.

“So to be on the side of caution, we have now fixed the date for the briefing to be Thursday, 6th May.

“I want to appeal to all of us that the briefing we will take from the Service Chiefs and other security agencies will be very crucial for us to be properly informed, properly guided and that if there is any request for supplementary budget, we should be able to understand why we should consider and approve such request.

“On Thursday, the only item on the order paper will be the briefing. We will do that as a special day for the engagement, the interaction between the Senate and the service.”

PoliticsI Never Said Government Has Been Printing Money Since 2015 - Amaechi by SamuelOamen(op): 11:54am On May 04, 2021
Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has described as 'false' reports that he said the government has been printing money since 2015.

He urged Nigerians to disregard the publication circulating on the social media on the issue.

A social media report claimed the Minister made the disclosure in an interview with journalists prior to the 2019 general elections.

The report also claimed Amaechi also disclosed the cabinet members swore an oath never to publicly admit to Nigerians that the government was on a printing spree of the national currency.

Reacting to the report, the Minister, in a statement by his Media Assistant, Taiye Elebiyo-Edeni, said he does not qualify to talk on such issues.

He said: "I have never head any financial institution in the country and therefore did not qualify as an authority in the issues that concerns printing of money into the economy.

"I advise Nigerians who wants information on printing of money to find out from the appropriate agency and not circulate false statement to gain cheap publicity."

PoliticsMbaka: Yes, I took three contractors to Buhari but… by SamuelOamen(op): 9:39am On May 03, 2021
Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka, has admitted he met President Muhammadu Buhari for contracts with three persons.

He however said he never stood to gain anything personally from the contract, which he said was “contract of securing the country.”

Mbaka last week asked Buhari to resign, calling on the National Assembly to impeach him if he fails to resign over worsening insecurity.

The Presidency fired back, alleging Mbaka started attacking Buhari because his quest for contracts was turned down.

The presidency, in a statement by Garba Shehu, alleged: “Father Mbaka asked for a meeting and to the shock of presidential aides, he came accompanied by three contractors.

“The President graciously allowed them in, and to everyone’s surprise, Father Mbaka asked for contracts as compensation for his support.”

But the cleric said it would be “stupid to be attacking a messenger of God,” stating the three persons he took to the presidency were white men who he didn’t know.

In his sermon on Sunday, Mbaka said the meeting was during Buhari’s first term and not recently as being insinuated.

Addressing thousands in his congregation in Emene, Enugu state, Mbaka said the white men in question were in Enugu to request his assistance in reaching the President.

According to him: “When they talked about giving Father Mbaka contracts, I don’t want to talk about that, I was laughing. It is a laughable, childish accusation. Whoever is saying that is a shame to himself and shame to the people he is representing.

“The three men he talked about, I am not here to defend anybody’s stupid allegation but God used that man to tell the world that Buhari’s government is not giving me money.

“Shehu, may God bless you for telling everybody that you are not giving me a contract. And these are the three men that we brought that will handle insecurity for the country; they had the gadgets. The white people had the facilities. That was during the first administration.

“They said they will help them in conquering insecurity. They had the platform to end insecurity in this country under one month; under Abba Kyari. I just handed them over to the government people. They denied them of these.

“I don’t even know these people. They just came to Enugu and said, can I help them reach the government, that the level of insecurity in this country and how Nigeria has been shipping their oil out, refining and bringing them back, that we are losing.

“That they have all it takes to revive the oil apparatus in the country and get the whole youths employed and the issue of insecurity will die. These are the three people they rejected their offer, since they know how to talk.”

He berated the presidency for not having a “reward mechanism”.

“All the people they have been giving contracts, are they better than me? Am I begging them, do they know how many people I feed? Fortunately, they reported that they denied me of the contract — which contract?”

“And even the people they are talking about that went there, I didn’t even discuss one percent of ‘if you get this contract’; contract of securing the country? What am I going to gain from it?

“They have shown that they don’t have what they will call, reward mechanism. If Shehu is a human… I don’t even know who the Shehu is. He should be apologising that by now, they have not come down to say nagode Allah for surviving whatever they are passing through.

“The last person this administration should fight is Father Mbaka talking here because if they speak against me, the anger of heaven will be upon them and how they will end will shock everybody.”

He dared the All Progressives Congress (APC) to report him to Rome as threatened.

“If Rome hears that Father Mbaka is challenging evil governance, Rome will clap for me, so quickly go to Rome,” he said.

“Why I don’t want them even to report this to Rome is because if pope hears the extent of my involvement, they may give me a position I may not like you want to report Messi to FIFA that he plays too much ball? They will make him soccer ambassador.”

PoliticsBREAKING: Mbaka Wanted Contracts But Was Denied – Presidency by SamuelOamen(op): 7:52pm On Apr 30, 2021
By Samuel Oamen

The Presidency on Friday explained why the Spiritual Director of the Adoration Ministry (AMEN), Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, turned against President Muhammadu Buhari after supporting him in 2015 and 2019.

Mbaka, it alleged, wanted contracts for supporting Buhari but was rebuffed.

The Presidency said rejection of Mbaka’s contract request was why the Enugu-based cleric called for resignation of Buhari or his impeachment by the National Assembly.

In a statement on Friday titled: “Father Mbaka is everything apart from what he claims to be,” signed by Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari, Garba Shehu, the presidency said: “Outsider distilling the avalanche of verbiage will be surprised that after supporting the President two times to win the Presidency, Father Mbaka has made a complete U-Turn, preposterously asking President Buhari to resign or be impeached.

“Here is the point of departure: Father Mbaka asked for a meeting and to the shock of Presidential Aides, he came accompanied by three contractors. The President graciously allowed them in, and to everyone’s surprise, Father Mbaka asked for contracts as compensation for his support.

“Anyone familiar with President Buhari knows that he doesn’t break the laid down rules in dealing with contracts or any other government business for that matter. He requested the appropriate authorities to deal with the matter in accordance with laid down rules.

“Inside the Villa, discretion prevailed, that if those pictures and requests were made public, the followers would turn against the religious leader. None of it was released. Now, this is what is eating Father Mbaka.”

Mbaka had endorsed Buhari in 2015 and 2019 and supported him over the years.

However, on Wednesday he said God was angry with the President over his inaction on the widespread killings across the nation.

The Catholic priest asked the National Assembly to impeach him if he fails to resign.

“I know people will say, Mbaka did you not pray for Buhari, did Samuel not anoint Saul? What are you talking about? Am I the creator of Buhari? God created him, Nigerians trusted him because he has done well sometimes ago but now how can people just be dying?” Mbaka said.

PoliticsHow NAF Jet Mistook, Killed Soldiers In Strike Against Boko Haram by SamuelOamen(op): 1:38pm On Apr 26, 2021
At least 20 soldiers have been feared killed in an aerial attack meant to neutralise Boko Haram/Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) that overran a troops' base in Mainok on Sunday.

The air strike, according to a soldier, was carried out by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jet which mistook the gun truck carrying the troops for terrorists.

The Nation reports the terrorists, said to have invaded Mainok in a convoy of four MRAPs, a scorpion Armoured Personnel Carrier and several gun trucks had disguised as friendly forces on Sunday night before dislodging troops of 156 Battalion and setting their camp ablaze.

They were said to have subsequently mounted checkpoints and moved into the community still dressed in Nigerian military desert camouflage.

Narrating how the fighter jet killed own forces, a soldier who made a 14-second video said they were shelled in error.

In the now viral video, the soldier, who spoke pidgin English, said one of the army's gun trucks coming to Mainok for reinforcement has been shelled by the NAF.

He explained he was calling the gun truck to come and carry him and a colleague standing on the express but the gun truck was going into the bush, alleging the smoke that was captured in the video was that of the bombarded gun truck and the soldiers in it were dead.

“The Boko Haram terrorists disguised in military uniform and gained access to the camp. They came in different groups and could not be counted.

"The Nigerian Army were pinned down, they requested for reinforcement, the reinforcement got on their way only to get shelled by the Nigerian Air Force.

“The (reinforcement team) was coming from Ngandu when they were killed by the airstrike targeted at Boko Haram. The Boko Haram were dressed in military uniform and carried high calibre military weapons," a source said.

Earlier, a message was sent out warning soldiers passing through Maiduguri to steer clear because the insurgents, disguised as military personnel, have taken over roadblocks and checkpoints.

"Any of our regular passing through Maiduguri should know that, at Mainok, it's not soldiers that are at the checking point but Boko Haram because BH dislodged Mainok in the early hours of today (Sunday) and they remain at the camp and at the checking points," the warning stated.

Lamenting the lack of adequate weapons to tackle insurgency, a soldier told The Nation there was no way the terrorists won't overrun the troops giving the armaments they deployed.

"I have been hearing that Boko Haram has heavy equipment but I saw it myself today. I saw it live. I saw Boko Haram with four MRAPS, APC and many gun trucks and weapons they are displaying. Imagine Boko Haram in a convoy with four MRAPS.

"Do you know what that means? It means we won't even be able to get them with just our gun truck and if you set mine traps for them, they will walk over it. The worst that can happen is that their tyres will be burst but still they can drive the MRAPs still for at least 2km.

"Just imagine what the casualty will look like. Why are our people treating us this way? I just read a report this afternoon that President Buhari signed billion dollar for procurement of arms but now the money is missing, unaccounted for. Just imagine!

"If they bought the weapons mentioned in that report and distribute them to locations, no Boko Haram will try us. But we continue to lose men out of our people's greed. Why are they doing us like this?

"Many people have lost interest in this job because of this kinds of senseless killings. A whole Commanding Officer was killed in today's attack in Mainok. This week alone, Boko Haram has killed many, dislodged bases and entered towns," the soldier lamented.

Similarly, terrorists on Friday killed an officer and a soldier attached to 3 Battalion, Abbari/Bulalaiye, Ngala in Borno State.

Same Friday, suspected BHT-ISWAP were said to have invaded an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp at Aburi in Damboa, Borno State, where they kidnapped five women and nine children.

The Nation gathered the terrorists carried out the attack in the night but eventually released a women with her two kids because they were too young to move.

According to a source, the Aburi IDP Camp was located close to Technical College Damboa, adding the terrorists went away with four women and seven children unhindered.

Reacting to reports on the alleged killings, the Nigerian Air Force through its official Twitter account said it was investigating visuals and reports being circulated.

It said: "The attention of the @NigAirForce has been drawn to reports alleging “How NAF killed over 20 Nigerian Army Personnel by Accident in Air Strike" at Mainok which is about 55km to Maiduguri.
