Everest9: 33 Sir (1986) Why not do something else? I don't recommend that age for programming; not because your head can't carry it but because you may have to deal with responsibilities. If you start learning programming now, when would you finish so that you can start using the knowledge to make money? Learning programming is like opening book chapters and to know the book you must read to the end. I'm talking about learning different programming languages. There are a lot of them. Programming also requires sitting in a place for long hours. Can you do that? Are you still under your parents so that they give you cover while you concentrate on sorting codes? Do you have a great laptop with 4GB least RAM size? I'd recommend programming for a child but not for an adult with lots of responsibilities. Programming is too broad. However, if you focus on Android programming, you can get to the peak of it and start creating apps with Android Studio that you can monetize with Admob and upload to the Playstore. The more apps you can create, the better for you. But if planning to study programming and work for an organization such as Andela, I won't encourage you. You'd have to give at least 4 years into it and you'll need lots of money to buy courses. |

I am new here, in fact this is going to be my first post on nairaland. Forgive me if I break any rule, I will keep it very simple.
I'm a fresh graduate, just graduated last year, was not able to go for NYSC due to my age. Simply want to ask, what are the chances of securing a job considering I am above 30.
Before I forget, I studied Business Administration (KASU) with a second class upper. Thanks everyone. What job do you want to secure? Where's the job? Guy, think of what you can do, what capital you need to get started and how you can raise the money. Don't plan of becoming a slave for any organization. If at all you want to work for anyone, payment should be at least 100k. Nonetheless, you must still plan on how to be on your own and leave your employer within two years or less. The best you can do for yourself is becoming an entrepreneur. |

Acidosis: You mentioned Quora and Edmond, but the two don't always correlate with public opinions in Nigeria. When a Nigerian tells you a product is bad, chances are you're likely going to get a different view on Quora or Edmund.
Opinions are good and can inform great decisions but we should be guided. If anyone is advising me about a phone or laptop brand, first thing I'll like to know is the year of purchase, tenure of use and nature of product at purchase period (new or fairly used).
Personally, I believe people who patronise fairly used products (including phones, cars, etc) should know the limit when it comes to dishing out opinions. I don't think Edmund or Quora review scraps. Opinions that are based on our experiences with scraps, Nigerian used cars, etc, should not be taken very seriously. Yes. Those places don't review scraps but you'll get an idea on how the car would end up; how it tormented people who used them and what they did. I don't think there are problems peculiar to only cars or used cars in Nigeria. |

I still remember my first laptop - an HP Pavilion series 6. I bought that system for over 60k and it was very clean. After using the system for a month or two, it developed sound problem. From a sound problem, it entered keyboard and then from keyboard, it crossed to screen. Finally, it graduated to the motherboard and shortly, the system died. I sold it as scrap for less than 20k. I felt real bad. While its protracted sickness lasted, I decided to do a little Google research about it. Lo and behold, HP Pavilion series was (and is still) like a curse child. It must bring one problem or the other now and then. I must confess that I didn't do any research before buying the system because all the information about it was online. HP won't even help anyone to fix the issues. I learnt my lesson the hard way. After my experience and since then till now, I warn people about HP Pavilion series - quite sleek but almost useless. It'll definitely die in your hands and soon too. All the stubborn people I know and warned had my similar experience and would come back to say, "I wish I listened to you." The system had slumped and died in their hands. What am I saying in essence? Do your research before placing order for anything. For cars, Edmond holds a lot of information. Quora is also a good place to ask questions. If you don't do your research before buying, you might likely regret. There's no point feeling bad because someone is warning you about their experience with a product. They might mix their counsel with emotions because of their experience with the product in question. Learn the lesson and correct yourself in anyway possible before it's too late. I remember in those days I'd tell people, "Throw this sh!t away or sell it off. It'll breakdown in your hand. It's a beautiful nnonsense." Truly, HP Pavilion series is a pure money waste. For cars, I don't know much about them but had to research about mine before paying for it. One love my people |

foolbuster: Bad news causes reactions faster and is more reverberated than good news. See containers upon containers of sucesfully delivered cars but very few praise. Let Amdman just make one silly mistake and see the level of reaction you'll get from people. That's humans for you. My wife-in-waiting would complain, "I do a lot of stuff for you, but now and then you get mad at me over the things I do wrong without any praise over other things. Does it mean I don't impress you at all?" I'd respond, "My love, you don't understand me. If you do something and I don't complain, take it that you did well, or at least such doesn't worth expressing any form of dissatisfaction about it. You don't expect me to praise you every time you do something right so that your head don't get big, and you don't also expect me to keep quiet about the things you get completely wrong so that you don't keep doing them." Consequently, if amdman wasn't doing well, you'd see lots of threads condemning his services and they're people who'd volunteer to come here and lay curses on him on a daily basis. Trust me, lots of Nigerians are bitter souls because the country is very bad. However, even though reviews are few here, it's normal. I'm an Indie Author and before my book start getting positive reviews, that means I've sold up to 50 copies, but if the book is bad, the first 5 - 10 copies that goes out would bring bad reviews and that'd signal the death of that book. For amdman, you can do a little Google search about him before transacting with him. For example, you can search, "amdman nairaland car sales scam," "amdman canada car sales scam," "<his real name here> scams," and so on. But trust me, your query won't return anything tangible. I did that. On the whole, I don't see that guy doing fraud in the nearest future. From my dealings with him, I can say that he is sincere as much as you want him to be. But hey! Nigerians are are people you can't predict. I remember bringing an Inverter from the US through one InfinitiConcept many years ago and picked the machine at his Oworunshoki office. He delivered without flaws. Few years later, I decided to visit his thread again; holy shit! I read some real bad stuff about him pointing to serious fraud. I don't know why some Nigerians are so prone to being infected with viruses that pushes them to scam others especially when dealing with them online and they feel really comfortable about such evil. C’est très malheureux ! |

Bet9ja hasn't done shit to you. It can't ruin you. You are great already and nothing can take that away from you. From what you've said, you've lost over 8M NGN in one year. The money may look gone, but you are still better than a man who can make up to 100K NGN a month.
There's always a difference between a rich man falling to zero and a poor living in poverty and also struggling to rise. Even though it appears both are at the same level, the rich man would always rise quicker than the poor man. You are still better than many whose monthly earnings hang around 100 - 200K NGN. Why? Because you are going to pick up fast.
There's no point contemplating suicide or blaming yourself over and over. I'm not here to condemn you, but to tell you that you are still great. In life, we all make mistakes and the ultimate thing is in realizing our mistakes, forgiving ourselves, forgetting the past, and finally turning a new leaf. You've realized your mistake and you are probably ready to turn a new leaf. 8M NGN seems big but as far as there's life, there's hope. I'm very sure you can raise between 1-2M NGN within a month or two to start a business and then grow up from there.
Hear me, big things start small and there shouldn't be any shame in starting small. God didn't create all of us in the world at the same time. He created only one man [and later a woman]. See what we've become; see how many we are in the world today. What's that telling you? Man has an inherent ability to multiply whatever he has in his hand. What you need is focus and determination. Time is insignificant.
Pick up your pieces and move on. Start afresh. There's seed of greatness already in you. Stop thinking about your lost. They belong to the past. Let go of it. Laugh over it, square up your shoulders, sit and plan your life. Focus on what you've been doing to make money legitimately else you may be preparing for another evil day. Double your hustle.
Let what has happened only be an experience you'd have to tell others and encourage them to learn from you. Don't let it sink you down. There's a reason we usually say, "Be a man." It's always in a time as this. Be a man bro. Real men are strong and courageous: both physically, spiritually, mentally, and otherwise. Shake it off. No matter what the eye sees, it can't shed blood. Shake it off and move on. You can make it happen again. The sky is your limit. |

Quick way: Get any of these Twitter influencers to carry your matter for head. By the time he starts tweeting your case on social media, the company will reach out to you ASAP for resolution.

When traveling, I love booking my tickets online with any transport company of my choice. I've been using ABC Transport in the past but had a very bad experience with them recently.
I booked four tickets online with ABC Transport to move from Enugu. Along the line, I realized I wouldn't make it to the park with my people to join the bus I booked so I started looking for means to postpone the trip. I was very far from ABC park and I went online to see if I could reach their customer care to shift the trip.
On their website, there are customer service phone numbers for every terminal nationwide. I copied for Enugu and tried calling that number for more than twenty times. It wasn't going through so I sent an SMS to the number requesting that they shift my trip to the following day referencing my booking numbers. I thought they received the SMS but I was wrong. I also used a feature (see attached) on the website to postpone the trip and the response was successful.
Going to the park following morning, the story changed. All my efforts to postpone the trip wasn't successful even when I received a message that the process was successful. At the counter, I was referred to the manager who said I can't board that the company's policy is to deduct 50% from the money I paid earlier because I couldn't turn up for the trip.
I explained everything I did trying to postpone the trip which I thought was successful. All my pleas felled on deaf ears. He was bent on deducting 50% and insisted I should've come to the park to postpone the trip. I asked him, why is the customer care not going through? No answer! I asked, why is the postpone feature on the site not working? No answer! Well, I balanced up and left the place with my people.
I want to ask, is this fair? Where was my fault? Can I get back the money the manager took from me?

They breed like rabbits and multiply poverty everywhere ,and they are not looking to unite, assimilate or accept Efik Calabarian methods as the standard and official. I support denial of the Akwa ibom judge and the appointment of the judge as long as he is from Cross river. that's why there should be ID database to separate wheat from chaff. On another thread, an akwa ibom individual was bragging that he was born and raised in calabar and ibibio will take over. His Allegiance is to Akwa ibom ,not cross river. I am American born and raised and mixed race and I qualify to be Governor of Cross river than that guy . it's about roots ,not born and raised. I don't care if an individual was born and lived ,school and worked all his life in Calabar, you are not from there and should be expelled if you do not pay allegiance to Calabar methods. There will be no seaport at Akwa ibom within the next 30 years . The only seaport on plan within the next 4 years is the Calabar seaport at Akpabuyo which will serve the entire cross river and the Greater Calabar area including Akwa ibom. Apart from English ,Efik is the standard and official language of the Cross river and Akwa ibom ,and is in the process of being registered by google. Well, it's sad that you are going through all the challenges. But on the flipside, you've drawn closer to God and your prayer life is also strengthened as a result of the challenges you've passed through. To an extent, you are mature in the things of God. This is a big plus for you and I know no demon can kill you (not because you've been attacking your seemeth enemies). Life isn't a bed of roses but a battle ground.
However, one thing is sure: you can't live in this world without challenges. These challenges may come from anywhere, but don't forget that we are not fighting against flesh and blood (which include your relatives, neighbors and humans in general) but against principalities and powers; against rulers of darkness (which cannot be seen with the optical eyes).
If anybody is telling you that your brother, sister, or a relative is responsible for your challenges, he/she is telling you a lie. If you cannot believe that there are powers that may rise against you which cannot be seen, then you will keep fighting the wrong battles and seeing everyone as your enemy; labeling people witches and witchcraft.
Our common enemy is Satan and his demons. Channel all your spiritual darts against them. Learn to form your prayer words accordingly and most importantly, they must be backed by God's Word; not man's words. Cheers. |

victorian: The father is an evil man and God will disgrace him.
I now realize why my pastor will make us prayer certain prayers about blood.
Any blood spitting fire of troubles or problems in our lives, whether the blood is alive or dead in the grave, we decree the blood to shut up and never speak out again. We decree any blood who wants to destroy us, we decree destruction to that blood and the voice of that blood to be silenced forever. And if the blood is alive? It must go 6ft under.
Before I use to wonder why Pastor will make the congregation pray such prayer for like 40mins and decree fire of the Holy Ghost on it and every curse back to sender
Now I know.
What a devilish father. This prayer is selfish and it's not sanctioned anywhere in God's Word. It can't get God's attention. Every prayer must be in line with God's Word else you talk to the air and may even attract demons to yourself. Once you were an enemy to God, why didn't He killed you at once? Why praying that God kills someone? God can offer you protection without killing anyone. There's no point praying for someone to die before you are free. If you go that way, you'd kill everybody because you can't live in this world without an enemy and if you don't have an enemy, there's something wrong with you. It means you are not making progress because progress attracks enemies. Rather than pray for them to die, pray God prepares a table in the presence of your enemies. Let them live to see what you'll become in life. That's just the prayer for your enemies. Let's stop calling for blood, please. Christianity isn't an occult. We ain't vampires. |
