hornyofife:And for your mind now, you haven't already exposed too much about the Ooni your so called friend. |
aribisala0:That makes you the international richest man in New York and London...Please don't laugh, it's a fact like 1+1 = 2. |
despam:Go and watch his coronation video on YouTube to understand why the nationwide thank you visit is necessary. Are you suggesting he shouldn't pay a thank you visit to the Sultan of Sokoto who for the first time sent his transitional Dunbar outside the north to come and perform at the pleasure of the Oba of Benin. Emir of Kano, Obi of Onitsha, Katsina, Borno, Delta, Rivers, Cross Rivers, Bayesa, Yoruba Community and many more sent down their traditional cultural dancers, the entire Nigeria was involved in the coronation in one way or the other. So the nationwide thank you visit is very necessary and important and the Edo people are not ungrateful people. There is a saying in Edo language that he who says thank you is encouraging his benefactors to do more. |
This guy knows that if he doesn't travel, he will become irrelevant. There are nobody coming to the palace, so he has to go to them. Real kings are supposed to be met on their thrones and in their palaces. |
The car is 2014 land rover evoque and you can get it in a very good condition for $10,000. The gesture of the husband is commendable, but must you guys over inflate It? |
odigbosky:Guys you can't really blame these guys crying over the internet over every Edo matter, especially the Oba. Don't forget that the Benin kings in the past dealt mercilessly with some of their ancestors and this is the only way they can have their pound of flesh. They are now fighting the fight their ancestors couldn't fight in the past on the faceless internet. What do you expect of people that the best their forebears could achieve was creation of some local chiefs that were answerable to the almighty Benin Empire. Now you guys are still shoving it down their throats, una wan kill person? Biko have mercy. |
tawa89:You cannot know Onitsha history more than it's greatest son and one of Africa greatest sons. If Zik says Onitsha was founded by Benin, I believe him more than you. |
Chukazu:What else do you want to hear from Akiolu? He has publicly declared that the Oba of Benin is his father, what other allegiance is greater than this solemn proclamation. |
777philosopher:Oduduwa himself was an exiled Benin prince |

She explained that it had historical significance. The terminology meant one who despised another. It is a contraction of two words, Onini to despise, and Ncha meaning others. So that the two words when joined together mean one who despises others. Then I asked her why we despised others. She patted me on the back and told me that it was due to our aristocratic background and tradition. I insisted that she should explain to me the basis of this supercilious social attitude. She narrated that many many years ago, there lived at Idu (Benin) a great Oba who had many children. Due to a power struggle regarding the right of precedence among princes of the blood and other altercations, there was a civil war in Benin. One day, the supporters of one of the princes insulted and assaulted Queen Asije, the mother of of the Oba of Benin, who was accused of having trespassed on their farmland. Enraged at this evidence of indiscipline and lawlessness, the Oba ordered his war chief and brother, Gbunwala Asije to apprehend and punish the insurgents. In the attempt to penalise them, Chima, the ultimate founder of the Onitsha city-state, a prince of the blood in his own right, led the recalcitrants against his Uncle, Gbunwala. meforyou1:Somebody already told you the meaning of Agbogidi in Benin, you are still asking questions. The title of Olu of Warri Ogiamen (ruler of the water..sea, ocean, river etc) is also a Benin word. The title of Obi of Agbor "Dien" is also a Benin word meaning senior amongst equals. A lot of these monarchs have identical chieftaincy titles as Benin. If you want to know more about Benin Onitsha connection read Nnamdi Azikiwe autobiography. |
Xyzee:Dele Momodu is Edo |
orlahtohbadt:Are you really seriou Imade is Davido late mother's name and the name is a Benin name. The full name is Imadeyunuagbon meaning I did not become what my enemies wish I become. |
kabaka1:Davido is half Edo, his mum is Edo that is why he named his first daughter with Sophy Momodu who is also Edo after his mum Imade. Imade is a Benin name. |
Onitsha monarch is Benin descendant, stop arguing and go and read Nnamdi Azikiwe autobiography. You definitely don't know Onitsha history more than the great Zik of Africa and a proud descendant of Benin. |
OMANBALA1:When people are out of their depth they resort to insults. What a low life. When your parents send you in school to read for a day like this, nba, no, you refused to study and lean, now insult is your superior argument, What a pity. It's not too late to go back to school. Until very recently, the average Onitsha person does not see himself as Igbo in fact he/she will feel insulted to be called Igbo, if you are in doubt go and read Nnamdi Azikiwe's autobiography written in 1970. |
giftq:Igbo or Ibo where NEVER used in his book. It's only modern day interpreters of the book that tried to claim him as Ibo or Igbo. I repeat there was no such a word as Ibo before the 1900s the word "I Before Others" (IBO) was actually coined by first generation politicians of the then Eastern Nigeria to unite natives of that region for political strength just the way politicians of the then Western region came together under the umbrella of Omo-Ododuwa. |
giftq:Point readers to where I said I never read the book. |
OMANBALA1:Benin couldn't defeat Agbor yet the presence of the Oba of Benin was being felt in far away as Anambra. The point I am trying to make is no one is certain about Oluadah's ethnicity because there were no such names of a tribe called Igbo or Ibo hence the reason they are not explicitly stated in his book. The only territory that can still be identified from his book today is Benin so Olaudah could have come from any part of the then Benin empire be it Etsako, Agbo, Abia or Anambra. |
bibe:Yes he did acknowledged that the Benin king was their overlords. Benin influence throughout the empire and territories it controlled was nominal in as much as tributes were paid to Benin as when due. Benin allow each tribes to maintain their own religion, tradition, customs and internal administrations, Benin was only interested in tribute. By the time Oluadah Equiano was captured he was the subject of the Benin Empire. |
giftq:If your map is correct then it proves the point that Oluadah couldn't have be born or be a native of the Igbo territory unless you are saying that the entire territory was under the Oba of Benin at the time he was born. What exactly is your point? |
giftq:You cannot argue that Olaudah is Igbo and not accept that Igbo was under the Benin Empire because Oluadah said his Eboe people were under the Oba of Benin. For the modern day biafra revisionist that says the Benin Empire didn't extend more than river niger, how can you claim Oluadah as an Igbo from the east. |
Oluadah Equiano claimed in his book that his people and their land were the subjects of the great Oba of Benin in his book. So those arguing he was an Igbo man should tell us whether the entire Igbo land was under the Oba of Benin in the 1700s and what about their argument that the Igbos were under Eze Nri and Arochukwu at this period. By claiming Oluadah as Igbo you must also accept that the entire Igbo people were the subjects of the Oba of Benin. |
The problem with some men is the inability to differentiate between women that are marriage material and those you keep for fun and nothing more. Any married woman that cheats must first think about the consequences when caught I.e is your husband the type that will throw you out or the one that wouldn't mind? If you are thrown out, your boyfriend will never marry you because he will think you will also cheat on him. |
justbusy:You must be having a laugh. There are actually far more similarities than you can imagine....market days, names, numbers, prayers just to mention a few. |
letusbepieces:My thoughts exactly, another similar name between Edo snd Igbo is Eze. The Eze family is a very prominent aristocratic family in Benin. I believe politics has caused a lot of division in this country. |
letusbepieces:I am not trying to force Benin down anybody's throat. Never knew Igbo people also bears Obaze as Edo people, would like to know the meaning in Igbo language if you don't mind. |
Obaze?? Does this guy's ancestry has anything to do with Edo? I know some part of Anambra claims Benin ancestry, is he one of them? Just curious. |
This happened on Thursday 17th August, 2017. Dr. Ogiugo was summoned to Obas's Palace over land issue because he constituted an impediment to the peaceful resolution of the matter by his Odionwere. He bluntly refused to kneel down before the Oba to say his own side of the issue at stake. Being a traditional setting, it was sensed that Ogiugo came fully armed and was immediately asked to remove his top (shirt). As he was removing his shirt, some charms (ekhuae and akpalode) fell from his pocket. That resulted in curses being placed on him and declaration as "oghion Oba". . |
This is mostly residential area, not the entire Benin City, just a fraction of it. |
. this Akiolu of man Should just pledge allegiance to Benin monarch once and for all make we hear word
Imade is Davido late mother's name and the name is a Benin name. The full name is Imadeyunuagbon meaning I did not become what my enemies wish I become.
