If Tinubu offended these guys in their former life without knowing it, he should kindly be a gentleman and apologize.

On a more serious note, with the ways these guys keep pitching innocent Igbos against government officials and other ethnic groups in this country, I sure hope they have a plan of accommodating their ilks when the cookies crumble.

Seeing a region with two clueless groups in the guise of IPOB and MASSOB is too much and largely unfair. Unfortunately, Ohaneze has been relegated to the background.

South East governors and their monarchs have so much work to do and I seriously don't envy them right now.

Ikpeazu and co have all ruined parts of the South East but a man who doesn't have their time has remained their headache from time immemorial. La wa!

God bless you heart! I don't know how I missed your post. Listing his works this way is so refreshing! I read the emboldened some ten years ago. I still remember the poetry collection of 'Telephone Conversation'. That anthology is a masterpiece! Studied it in my second year as an undergrad and I recall how buzzed Ajose lecture Theatre was the day we read and performed it.

I just might copy out the listed works and go in search of the ones I haven't studied/read. Thank you.

For those that understand, this is always going to be a very hoy topic for centuries to come. It is an offshoot of 'John Milton vs Shakespeare' that has been an recurrent topic for debate in the English literati circle for donkey years.
The emboldened is a suicidal comparison. I read tons of John Milton's works way back as I did Shakespeares. Achebe can clearly be likened to Milton. Both focused on a genre while Shakespeare and Soyinka found a genre to be restrictive.

As good as Milton was with poetry, Shakespeare was referred to as a national poet and the 'Bard of Avon'. That tells a whole lot. It is only fair to compare writers who focus solely on one genre. Example: Frank AIG-Imokhuede vs J.P. Clarke or Niyi Osundare, etc.

Achebe and Soyinka's argument is like drawing comparisons between a fixed player vs a utility player in football. They are not even close by a mile. Whatever Achebe wrote in his prose world, Soyinka translated into the same genre and extended to the other two. Even his plays I saw alongside that of Ola Rotimi way back left me dazed.

You pick Soyinka's works to study and analyze only to start wondering what he was thinking when he wrote that particular work. Achebe is an amazing writer in his own right and his novel enjoyed more popularity than Soyinka's for several reasons. Sadly, comparing saying Achebe is better as far as literature is concerned is committing a literary Seppuku.

If you want to find the correct answer to this question, go to a foreign dominated website or forum and ask between Chinua Achebe and Wole Soyinka, who is a better author.

Soyinka is good no doubt, but u can't compare him to Achebe.

Soyinka's works are not as entertaining, and usually difficult to grasp by a layman.

But even an illiterate who manages to read can grasp and enjoy Achebe's works.

Do your findings, I have read almost all their works, so I know
You are Jon Snow, no doubt. You know nothing.

To every literature student, our understanding of a good work of art is one you read and don't make meaning out of at first glance. If you pick up a literary work and understand it upon closure, then it is a bad book.

Certain elements differentiate newspapers from works of literature and that is the diction, plot, style, license (poetic, in literature), mood, tone, author's viewpoint etc. I could read a section of the newspaper and comprehend what it says first hand without having to re-read. The same must not happen to any literary work of art. It must not.

We have more generation of readers in Nigeria now, more than ever, who often only try to get themselves entertained without having to pay attention to the elements the writer/author adopted in presenting his ideas.

Wordsworth defines poetry that it is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings; it takes its origin from emotions recollected in tranquility; the emotion is contemplated till the tranquility disappears and an emotion, kindred to that which was before the subject of contemplation, is gradually produced and does prove itself that it actually exists in the mind.

The above definition of poetry extends to other genres. Achebe was an amazing storyteller but it stops there. I could give you one of Soyinka's works and you won't even spend 10 minutes on it before dropping it. That in itself is the beauty of Literature. If your mind and senses are not alive before reading/studying a good work of art, then be sure it won't make sense to you.

Literature › Re: Wole Soyinka Replies Reno Omokri Over Chinua Achebe Being Better Than Him by Sanchez01(m):
Achebe was a novelist and wrote interesting, thought provoking books. Soyinka covered more genres than Achebe. Depth wise, Achebe wasn't close. Soyinka never really had a strength. Of the 3 genres, he covered all and did that effortlessly.

As a student of Literature, myself and the entire class had issues analyzing 'Think it Rains', a poem by Wole Soyinka. So good and confusing was it that reference materials couldn't help an entire class of undergraduates.

Soyinka's books might not appeal to non-literature students for several reasons; his choice of words, poetic license, unconscious confusion he creates in his works amongst many other things.

Sentiments aside, Achebe was the better novelist of the two when compared. But when we talk about the man who understands the very depth of Literature, then Wole Soyinka takes it.

Both were incredible in their writing days but Achebe was just a man of one field. Soyinka's works are not for every Tom, Dvck and Harry.

Messi was an epic disappointment in that match.

He appeared uninterested:He was even strolling on the pitch as if Liverpool players should just bow down at his feet because his name is Lionel Messi....Dude was just arrogant.

For all the accolades normally heaped on Messi, one undisputable fact is that Ronaldo is the more ambitious of the two.

Ronaldo is a natural competitor. It is inconceivable that Ronaldo would have allowed an opponent to cancel a three-goal deficit without reacting if it needed deploying dark arts to win a penalty.
grin grin grin

Well, I am not going to add to what you have highlighted before Messi fanboys brand me a hater. Messi has always been arrogant, just that his midgety look makes him a humble person. Ibrahimovic revealed this in his memoir and revealed how Guardiola was scared of him and how he even influences the manager's decision.

He is an amazing player, no doubt but the motivation is not always there even in the face of defeat. He doesn't like to lose, as I have come to notice but rarely gets motivated after a fall. He lost a penalty in the South America Copa final, cried and announced retirement from country football. He fell again and ran to Barcelona, after feigning injury only to play less than four days after.

Ronaldo still cries when he loses major matches. He knows his team would have done better but failed. His hunger and passion for success are unrivaled in the history of sports. Ronaldo would always be the reference point between those two as far as results are concerned.

If Ronaldo was Messi and he was to be in that team last night. Liverpool would have won but they won't qualify because Ronaldo would have scored.

What is this one saying? You didn't have to go that far back into time, just yesterday Liverpool beat Barca 4 nil. My point is in football it happens everyday. You are the one trying to insinuate it can never happen to Ronaldo. It can happen to anyone!
English and comprehension is the problem here. Can Ronaldo lose 3-0 or more to a comeback and not score before being ousted? No! It has never happened to him before because he ends up scoring.

Messi has seen back to back comeback at the hands of Roma and Liverpool and he fizzled in both games. This can't happen to Ronaldo. Stay on course and argue like someone who is educated.

I disagree. Wasn't he there v Ajax? If not Messi who can do it for Barcelona?
You don't need to disagree as you clearly didn't understand my post. Ronaldo's team might be eliminated in a tourney but he would always score. I emphasized on it.

While Juventus lost to Ajax, Ronaldo scored in both legs.

At Madrid there was marcelo, there was RAMOS, there was carvajal, there was BALE. these players could stand up when Madrid were down. Ronaldo mostly did it when there was no pressure. 2 finals v atletico where was Ronaldo, v Liverpool where was Ronaldo. The players around you matter. At juve now they don't have such players who can stand up and that's why juve lost. There was no Costa, no chiellini, no mandzukic. These are the spirited players that can do it in such times. If Ronaldo and Messi aren't surrounded with spirited players there's nothing they can do
So there are no spirited players in Argentina?

Football comes in circles.

When the epl was dominating in the early 2000s, Real Madrid was languishing in mediocrity.

Now, the quality is coming back to England.

The Two best teams in Europe play in England. The best managers are there.

It is time for England to shine.
Early 2000 was dominated by Italy at the European level. I'm talking the likes of Fiorentina and AC MILAN and Inter Milan.

During this era, the EPL teams were a huge joke at the European level. Real Madrid had started the Galacticos era but they barely played as a team. NO TEAM IN THE WORLD HAD THE LEVEL OF SUPERSTARS Madrid had during the early 2000s.

And the same Galacticos went ahead to win the Champions League in 2002 and almost saw to the collapse of the team even with the presence of the big names. I still remember the match with Arsenal, how Lyon dropped us every season and how Guti would fight Casillas during El Clasicos.

I very much enjoy last night but don't say shvt if you didn't witness the era. I know for a fact that most EPL fans in Nigeria started supporting their clubs late and never understood the 'wits' era. Don't come out and say what you don't know.
