He’s finished. It’s time to get down to action. They’re ready to pluck balls. ![]() |
But no plucking yet: first Michael Heselschwerdt, the Uefa Head of Club Competitions, has to explain the rules and run through some details. This ground is very much already covered further down this page. |
Marchetti introduces a glamorous assistant, in the shape of Xabi Alonso. Xabi thinks the number of English clubs in the draw “is great news”. “Now the big teams are coming,” he warns. He has now taken draw position. |
“It is absolutely impossible to predict the two teams that will take part in the final,” he says. It isn’t, though, not really. It’s only quite difficult. Let’s not go overboard here. |
Uefa’s deputy general secretary, Giorgio Marchetti, is introduced. He’s going to be in charge of the actual draw, and he also sends best wishes from the absent Ceferin: “He wishes the best of luck to the teams that have reached this stage of the competition.” |
It's on, LIVE! It’s on! Pedro Pinto, Uefa’s managing director of communications, is in charge. |

The reason he doesn’t look very excited is that he’s in Bulgaria, and thus about 1,700km away from where the action is. This looks to me like a serious diary malfunction. Lalasticala! Alan Shearer has revealed the two Premier League sides he thinks can go furthest in the competition – Manchester United and Man City. ‘We [the Premier League] once again have teams and — more importantly — coaches who can put us back on top again,’ he told The Sunn. ‘The two who have the best chance of doing that are Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, who both have two Champions League titles. ‘For me, Pep’s City look our best bet. To win this trophy you need something a bit special.’ |
The odds are bound to change depending on what happens this morning, but currently PSG are the favourites among the bookmakers. Considering they’ve never won the tournament, it seems the signings of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have swayed the bookies in their favour. Second favourites are Man City – another team who have never won the competition. Real Madrid – the winners in 2016 and 2017 – are third. Of the Premier League teams, Liverpool are the least fancied. |
The 2018 final is due to be played at the Olimpiyskiy Stadium in Kiev. An impressive arena that seats 70,000 and hosted the final of Euro 2012. |
Tottenham… Potential opponents: Basel, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Shakhtar Donetsk or Porto. Unlike the other group winners from the Premier League, Real Madrid are not an option for Tottenham. That’s because they emerged from the same group, with Spurs even humiliating the reigning champions at Wembley. On that basis, Tottenham will feel confident whoever they play. |
Man City… Potential opponents: Basel, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Sevilla, Porto or Real Madrid. No team will want to play Manchester City, particularly after their 2-1 win over Manchester United at the weekend. Pep Guardiola’s team currently look unstoppable. |
Liverpool… Potential opponents: Basel, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Shakhtar Donetsk, Porto or Real Madrid. Liverpool had perhaps the most trouble qualifying, yet ultimately finished top of their group. Jurgen Klopp will be wanting to avoid Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Juventus. |
Chelsea… Potential opponents: Paris St-Germain, Barcelona or Besiktas. Chelsea were the one English side who failed to top their group. They finished behind Roma, but did manage to squeeze out Atletico Madrid. PSG will be one to avoid, with the French champions having knocked them out at the Round of 16 stage on their last two appearances in the competition. Obviously Barcelona would be a nightmare. So fingers crossed for Besiktas! |
Manchester United… Potential opponents: Bayern Munich, Juventus, Sevilla, Shakhtar Donetsk, Porto or Real Madrid. Jose Mourinho’s side won their group comfortably, but unfortunately for the Red Devils that’s no guarantee of an easy ride in the next phase. Real Madrid are clearly the team to avoid, while Bayern Munich and Juventus would be very tricky. ![]() |
kindim:Mobdro should do the trick... Lalasticlala Mynd44 It's almost time. |
dabossman:The EPL is overrated. So much viewership with so little European success. The case with the La Liga is simply joint monopoly, dominantly dictated by Real Madrid and Barcelona. Regardless, EPL teams are nowhere near the La Liga teams if we end up matching them. Real Madrid - ? Barcelona - ? Atletico Madrid - Chelsea Valencia Sevilla Athletic Bilbao Villareal Real Sociedad Care to match the above teams with worthy EPL opponents ![]() |
dabossman:Dortmund is a Dutch team? I'm sure you meant Feyenoord. |
dabossman:Just so you know, ALL FIVE English teams that have won the Champions league, jointly hold a total of 12 trophies, the same as a Real Madrid alone ![]() |
Reminder! Potential opponents for the Premier League teams… Manchester United (Group A winners): Bayern Munich, Juventus, Sevilla, Shakhtar Donetsk, Porto or Real Madrid. Chelsea (Group C runners-up): Paris St-Germain, Barcelona or Besiktas. Liverpool (Group E winners): Basel, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Shakhtar Donetsk, Porto or Real Madrid. Manchester City (Group F winners): Basel, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Sevilla, Porto or Real Madrid. Tottenham (Group H winners): Basel, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Shakhtar Donetsk or Porto. |
This is harsh ![]() |
ammyluv2002: ![]() Mourinho might do well against a highly defensive side like Juventus; score one goal at the Old Trafford and park bus for the rest of the game and then in Turin. For Bayern Munich... ![]() |
Hediot! He has started again. This isn't 2015 ![]() |
