LAST-EIGHT TEAM-BY-TEAM GUIDE ATLETICO MADRID Could it be third time lucky for Atletico Madrid - after losses in the final to city rivals Real Madrid in 2014 and 2016. Diego Simeone's men finished top of a group featuring Bayern Munich and comfortably dispatched Bayer Leverkusen on their way to the last eight. Leading scorer in this season's Champions League: Antoine Griezmann 4. Best European Cup/Champions League performance: Finalists (2014 and 2016). Current domestic league position: 4th (La Liga) BARCELONA Barcelona are among the favourites after incredibly overturning a 4-0 deficit with perhaps the most dramatic European comeback of all time - completed by Sergi Roberto's added-time winner at the Nou Camp to advance 6-5 on aggregate over Paris Saint-Germain. Leading scorer in this season's Champions League: Lionel Messi 11. Best European Cup/Champions League performance: Five-time winners (1992, 2006, 2009, 2011, 2015). Hitting top form at the right time, Bayern will fancy their chances against anyone. Leading scorer in this season's Champions League: Robert Lewandowski 7. Best European Cup/Champions League performance: Five-time winners (1974, 1975, 1976, 2001, 2013). Current domestic league position: 1st (Bundesliga) BORUSSIA DORTMUND Dortmund finished top of a group containing holders Real Madrid before beating Benfica 4-1 on aggregate in the last 16. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a hat-trick in the second leg at Siguna Iduna Park and looks the main dangerman for the Bundesliga outfit. Leading scorer in this season's Champions League: Gonzalo Higuain 3. Best European Cup/Champions League performance: Two-time winners (1985, 1996). Current domestic league position: 1st (Serie A) LEICESTER Surprisingly the Premier League's sole survivors in this year's competition, Leicester have made a name for themselves of Europe with their displays so far in their debut Champions League. A dramatic 2-0 victory at the King Power Stadium was enough to overturn a 2-1 deficit vs Sevilla and the Premier League champions enter the last eight high on confidence if not experience. Who is the best and worst draw for Leicester? All the teams left in the competition look ominously strong for Leicester. Craig Shakespeare may fancy their chances most against Borussia Dormund or Atletico Madrid - though both teams have reached the final recently. They will probably be looking to avoid holders Real Madrid and fellow European giants Barcelona and Bayern Munich. And Juventus look equally as tough a prospect - though goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon claimed that his side want to avoid facing Leicester too. https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2017/03/15/19/3E1111D300000578-4317436-image-a-19_1489604863351.jpg Bayern Munich would be a very difficult task for Leicester if they drew them in the last eight https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2017/03/15/19/3E198C0000000578-4317436-image-a-21_1489605005442.jpg Leicester will want to avoid Spanish giants Real Madrid in the next round of the competition http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4321504/UEFA-Champions-League-draw-date-time-it.html cc FunkyMetahuman |
tgmservice:Lol... Most of the teams in the quarter final are big teams. It would be difficult for Barcelona to cheat their way through. Worst still, their undoing would be meeting Bayern Munich. |
FunkyMetahuman:Your argument is laughable. Madrid came second to Dortmund in the group, that does not mean that Madrid's pedigree is rubbished. Of all the eight ( teams in the quarter finals, Leicester City is the team with the least goals (10). Barcelona, Dortmund, Bayern and Madrid are all first to fourth in front of goals respectively (26, 25, 24, 22), while Monaco and Juventus are eighth and ninth with 15 and 14 goals respectively. Atletico, on the other, being a more frustrating side, defensively has managed to pull just 11 goals. If we are to judge by goals, it would mean Atletico and Leicester City should be on the same page, but then we know what would happen with the big four, particularly Real and Barce. Club Brugge though a bit of a regular has no 'decent' players. If you're talking about Nottingham Forest, the argument is funny. The question you should ask is that 'where is the said team today?' The team is not even in the BPL. Worst of all, they are presently sitting at no 20 on the Championship table. Consistency + Established players = Experience. It is not difficult, really. Mukina2 Mynd44 Lalasticlala, it's draw day. |
It is funny to see that these Herdsmen would go to any length in defending their horrible actions. You kill a man like his life is worth nothing, claimed to have disappeared, yet, the Fulani head in the area confidently gives an account on your behalf and the NPF is saying they will look for him. Why not start by asking the Fulani leader since he understands what led to the death of the man even without being there with the duo on the farm? ![]() |

rozayx5:I hope you guys can clearly see the difference between Ibiyeomie and Suleiman? If Suleiman's allegations were false, he would have sued Stephanie Otobo for defamation and have her imprisoned. That Stephanie is out and putting up more crazy allegations while Suleiman is calling his members demons speak volume. Suleiman is not fully clean even though Stephanie is dramatizing the whole thing. |

FunkyMetahuman:I don't agree, still. Experience is still the only relevant thing in football. It could happen that the underdogs might upset the big dogs but you don't see it happen every time. There are instances where experience is need, like champions league final between real and athletico. Not true! Lack of exposure and experience to and in the league has been the primary reason why the big guns has been winning the tourney since its reformation in 1992. As a matter of fact, ONLY three (3) average teams have only managed to lift the trophy since 1992 (25 solid years!). You think this is by accident? The same arsenal have been to champions league final with the same coach yet got demolished by bayern muchen.Arsenal was once a force in Europe, especially during their golden years when they had the likes Henry, Pires, Campbell, Vieira, Bergkamp and Ljunberg. The 15 year-old players they sign for 2,000 pounds these days would only come back for many years to come. Arsenal has only played a final since the UCL inception and that was against Barcelona in 2006 (I still remember like it was yesterday). By the way, monaco has almost the same level of experience as mancity, even man city had a edge because they got to semis last years. But football don't always work like that.Monaco is much more experienced than Manchester City! City only came into the European scene recently. Monaco has been there before now. We are talking a club that the likes of Thierry Henry, Lilian Thuram, Fabien Barthez, Marco Simone, George Weah, Ludovic Giuly and David Trezeguet. When did City start? Like I said, Sevilla had so many experience in Europe, yet got knocked out by a first timer and number 15 on epl league table. That should tell you something.Sevilla has never played a Champions League final let alone win before. Interestingly, Sevilla has won five (5) Europa League trophies, and is the current club with the most Europa trophy. I guess that tells us a lot about them, yeah? They even tried this year. Normally, they would crash out early and then go on to the Europa League to claim it. I'm sure if they pair leceister with athletico with all the experience, they have 50% chance of progressing. That's why I said experience don't always determine football but team performance. This is so funny! ![]() Atletico is one club every manager and club pray to avoid like a plague, owing to their disciplined, physical, defensive style of play. Ask Barcelona, Madrid, Chelsea and Bayern. Leicester City have been impressive so far but trust me, Atletico would frustrate them out. They are a three-time finalist (losing twice to Real and once to Bayern). Even madrid defeated athletico because they had better team not experience.See, I am a Madridsta and I would tell you the Gospel truth, we won those two finals against them because Atletico does not recognize a final from a regular match. The same does not apply to Real Madrid. Madrid might be sloppy all through the tournament, but trust me, they play like they are on drugs in a Champions League final. Earlier you mentioned that all players are the same, now, you're saying Madrid had a better team. Funny! How did they get the 'better players' to make a team? Is it not by spending excessively on experienced players? City spends too, but have you ever asked why they struggled against Monaco when the likes of Yaya Toure was sidelined? Experience is Champions League and Champions League is experience. You cannot win the UCL with a total of players valued at 100 million pounds. Ask Arsenal ![]() |
Officially, they have become enemies. ![]() |
kjhova:Shallow attempt at sarcasm! And it is equally obvious you don't understand the Scriptures. The structure does not make up the church, the people do. Apostle Suleiman might be the owner of the structure wherein the people worship but he clearly does't own them. When we say the 'Church' (initial 'C' always start with block) is the body of Christ, we don't mean the structure being the body of Christ but the people, Christians, who fellowship in the structures. They are the church, the Body of Christ. |
Occurstaem: The crisis in Ile-Ife started when a group of Hausa Fulani men molested and physically abused a young Yoruba woman by the name of Kubura and almost killed her in the process. She went home covered in blood and when her husband, Akeem (a leading member of the NURWT in Ile-Ife) found out what she had been subjected to he went back to the Hausa-Fulani quarters (commonly known as Sabo) with her in tow to find out why she had been subjected to such barbaric treatment and who the perpetrators were. On getting there instead of being received with sympathy and remorse the husband himself was viciously stabbed and almost lost his life. After that the Hausa Fulanis in Sabo went on the rampage killing many sons and daughters of Ile-Ife their host community and in the process they proceeded to behead a young Yoruba man and they paraded his head on a pole through the streets. From the above, he painted a picture of a people who molested a woman, stabbed her husband who went there to 'find out what his wife did' and immediately went ahead killing Yoruba sons and daughters. All these without aggravation from the Yorubas. I honestly admire how the people of Ife stood against these folks, but I must admit, the narrative of FFK as quoted above is nothing but a too good narrative. |
Mujaheeeden:Don't be misinformed, Aregbesola never agreed to pay a dime. It was Kwankwaso who demanded that his people be compensated. I wouldn't blame Aregbesola though. It is easier criticizing and claiming this is how you do it when you are clearly not in charge. That Hausa-Fulanis have become a terror is as a result of those who have been shielding them. The likes of Buhari and Kwankwaso. And truth be told, FFK did hit the nail on the head with the piece. However, there were a couple of lies in his post just so he could defend the Yorubas. His narrative is too one-sided. |
FunkyMetahuman:At the emboldened, I totally disagree if that is in reference to the Champions League. The atmosphere in a champions League match is overwhelming. The stadium might be the same the players have been used to but the tournament and the mindset accompanying it can be consuming. Seeing how Monaco overwhelmed Manchester City is a typical example of the Champions League experience. Comparing a league match to the UCL is like comparing slumber to death. Most times, the bigger teams end up winning as opposed to the league were anyone takes the day. Ask yourself when was the last time a smaller team won the Champions League. Even as crazy as Atletico is, the best they can do is get to the finals. And as much as they beat Barcelona and Real Madrid in the League, they are an entirely different team when playing Real in particular. Yes, they went ahead of Sevilla because Sevilla in itself is a that is more exposed to the Europa League. These teams know where their strength lie. A Real or Barcelona side would struggle in the Europa, particularly against those unknown names because the mentality is not all too familiar to them. The Champions League is not really a shocking league. It is no brainer that some set of teams have been winning it for over a decade. There are super humans in the game and we have just two around presently. Google players and managers' comments about Messi and Ronaldo. By the way, did you figure out why Arsenal was massacred by Bayern? Because there are more million pounds players in one of the teams than the other. |
He is an Islamic cleric and the funniest thing is that you won't see those horrible bigots on the thread to condemn his act because it is a norm. If an Islamic cleric is not grinding human bones with his quranic recitation, then he is adding leaves to it. The difference between a typical herbalist and these folks is in how they dress. |
FunkyMetahuman:Not true, I totally supported them all through last year in the EPL. However, don't even think the UCL is anything close to the EPL. We all saw how a 'whole' Arsenal was reduced to nothing, and how a Pep Guardiola Manchester City was seen out by Monaco. Experience too would have counted for Leicester City, but unfortunately, they are not regulars in the tournament. Except the draw matches the big guns against one another would Leicester City have a chance. But here is the truth, I don't even see them going past Monaco or Atletico. |
Gigabite:True, @the emboldened! But calling people a demon?!? That is a whole new indication! |
This is a whole new level of shame |
