If it's not #1 - $1, then it's not news. That was what we were promised.

It was below 300 when Jonathan was president so this ain't good news
It won't just jump to #1 even if it is possible. And I also believe you know it didn't just leap to 500+ from 200.

It's a gradual thing, and it is pretty impressive that the Naira gained a whopping N20 just today alone.
Business › Naira Gains More Strength, Now N400 To Dollar by Sanchez01(op): 5:19pm On Mar 22, 2017
Following the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) intervention in foreign exchange (forex), the Naira traded N400 to a dollar at the black market on Wednesday in Abuja.
The Naira has also appreciated against the Pound Sterling and Euro rate as it traded at N510 and N415 respectively.

One of the Bureau de Change operators simply known as Tijanni Jos, said that the development had caused operators to lose a lot of money.

According to him, operators did not envisage a quick downfall of the dollar which has caused them to buy at an expensive rate hoping to make returns.

The Nigerian currency also traded at N307.5 at the interbank window.

In other segments of the market, Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) and Travelex, an International Money Transfer Services Operator, sold the Naira at N381 to a dollar.

Mr Godwin Emefiele, Governor of CBN, had on Tuesday, while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting in Abuja, said the apex bank was determined to see the convergence of rates at the foreign exchange market.

Emefiele said that the CBN was optimistic that the rate between the official and parallel market would converge further.

He also said that the bank could sustain the policy, adding that those who doubt the ability of the bank to take decisions and implement it were taking a great risk.

He noted that the nations’ foreign reserves were trending further to 31 billion dollars.

Emefiele had also warned speculators to desist from stocking dollars at home because the CBN intervention would crash the price of dollar, which was already happening.

The CBN had in the last few weeks injected about 1. 7 billion dollars into the foreign exchange market.

He said, “Some people have been making overtures to me to join the APC, but I cannot join them. With what have they repaid somebody like Asiwaju Tinubu? He worked and helped the party to secure victory but has been dumped. That is not a party I would be interested in joining.

“One thing I would not allow is for anybody to rubbish our leaders in the South-West. Our leaders, including Asiwaju Tinubu must be accorded their due respect, as any attempt to rubbish them will be taken as a slap on the entire Yoruba race.”
This is one form of politics other regions must learn. That you belong to different parties does not mean you should not find a common ground when the need arise.

The President is not clean and he has set a perfect example in this area. You don't need to have a reasonable school degree to venture into politics.

The uneducated control the wealth and employ those who spent years of sleepless nights burning midnight candles and bagging degrees upon degrees. We should not ask ourselves how we got here. We have been messed up from inception.

While I would want Dino to be disgraced out, we must realize that the Change they claimed, begins with you. It begins with the President.
Politics › Buhari Spits Fire, Threatens To Deal With Politicians With Fake Certificates by Sanchez01(op): 9:23am On Mar 22, 2017
- President Muhammadu Buhari has threatened to deal with any member of APC with fake certificate

- He also frowned at the spate at which public servants and individuals of questionable wealth were being celebrated

- He attributed failure of value system to spate of examination and cheating malpractices among public servants

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed concern over the menace of examination malpractices and fake certificates in the country.

Punch reports that the president also condemned the spate at which public servants and individuals of questionable wealth were being celebrated with alumni recognitions, honorary degrees, chieftaincy titles and sometimes higher religious titles.

According to him, cheating in examination and attainment of fake certificates among Nigerians had become a normal thing because of collapse of values in the society.

Buhari represented by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), expressed this view on Tuesday March 21, in Abuja, during the 65th Annual Council Meeting of the West African Examinations Council with the theme, “65 years of commitment to excellence in educational assessment.”

He said: “Today the attainment of wealth, power or educational influence is the mark of success which is not necessarily a bad thing except we are no longer concerned with the process of attaining success.”

“The end it appears today justifies the means which explains why cheating in examinations and fake certificates simply do not generate the sort of outrage that such conduct would have generated years ago.

“Public servants and many in the private sectors who have unexplainable wealth are celebrated in one form or the other, alumni recognitions, honorary degrees, chieftaincy titles and even higher religious titles.

“Often, cheating is with the collusion of parents and teachers. This only reflects the failure of values in our larger society. Educational policy within that milieu of collapsed value failure is a totally different type of task when values in society have collapsed.

When values in the society have been upturned, the role of the policy maker is completely different from when values are maintained by and large.”

The President said Nigerians are no longer concerned about the process of attaining success because the end justifies the means for them.

Such collapse in value, he explained, has made it difficult for policy makers to effect change in the society.

Buhari therefore called for a change in education curricula to reflect modern teaching methods.

He said: “It is much more important today to emphasise also how we should teach which will obviously impact how we should examine, what questions we should be asking and what we should be looking for in our students. But regarding what we should teach, it is my respective view, more important now than ever before to redefine success.”

It will be recalled that a Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District at the Senate, Dino Melaye, has been accused of not graduating from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and the school authority has also allegedly confirmed that he never finished from the institution.

Justice Binta Nyako of an Abuja Federal High Court, on Monday held that witnesses testifying against leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu will either give their testimonies behind the screen or on mask.

The judge gave the ruling after Kanu’s counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor informed the court of an application filed for the review of the judgment made by the court previously on the protection of witnesses.

But Justice Nyako maintained that she will not vary her order for the protection of witnesses in the matter.

The judge explained that her order was aimed at protecting security operatives who will be testifying against Kanu and his co-accused.

According to Nyako, “I will not vary my order on protection of the security operatives, it is either they come wearing masks or we hear their testimonies behind the screen.

”The only people that will see them is me, you (the counsels involved) and the defendants.”

Politics › Biafra: Judge Bars Journalists From Using Phones, Cameras To Cover Kanu’s Trial by Sanchez01(op): 2:28pm On Mar 20, 2017
Justice Binta Nyako of an Abuja Federal High Court, has barred journalists covering the ongoing trial of the leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu from using their phones and cameras.

The order was handed down to reporters at the entrance of the courtroom by an operative of the Department of State Security, DSS, who was in company of three heavily armed prisons officials.

According to the operative, “Madam (the judge) gave the order; she said no journalists should be allowed inside with their phones and their cameras.”

What is not clear is if the operative was acting on his own volition or on the orders of the trial judge.

At the last hearing on the matter, men of the Nigeria Police Force had prevented IPOB members and some journalists from gaining entrance into the premises of the court to witness the trial of Kanu.

ProudlyAfonja:
How? if you can be Christians, Muslims, etc why can't they be Jews?
Islam and Christianity is not our original religion
Being Jewish is not a religion, but claiming to be a people you are not, particularly when it is mostly cooked up and remains unverified. Is it rather not amusing that instead Igbo having Igbo inscriptions on the flex banner, they chose to write in Hebrew. A sharp, business-oriented Igbo man is already capitalizing on selling the shawls to those who believe whatever they want to believe, just like some cashed in on those willing to buy Biafran passports about two years ago.

Anyone can be anything they want to, but dressing in the typical Jewish way all of a sudden and appearing around the court when one of yours is being tried is not only comical but embarrassing.

Language variation wise, you bear no resemblance with the Jews. It is really funny, you know?

By the way, Judaism is the religion of Jews, and it is the practice of the Old Testament belief as opposed to what Christians believe in (Salvation in Christ, from the new Testament).

Judaism is a monotheistic religion, and I know for sure that majority of Igbos are Catholics (Christians). Therefore, if you say you are a Jew and don't practice Judaism, then you are as confused as anything. I hope you understand this.
