chosengocap: Today in history: Do you remember the 2012 fuel subsidy removal rally and strike? If you have forgotten, it took place from Jan 6-12, 2012. It got to a peak on Jan 8, 2012. Background fact January 1, 2012, GEJ led FG increased fuel pump price from N65/ltr to N141/ltr so that subsidy can be totally removed! Voila! # OccupyNigeria protests erupted in Lagos and some other cities. NLC, TUC, Save Nigeria Group, civil society organizations, Nollywood celebrities, ACN and opposition Politicians etc took turns to address the rally at Gani Fawehinmi memorial park at Ojora, Lagos to denounced the subsidy removal. The strike paralyzed the country economy for about one week. In the midst of the strike, FG backtracked and reduced the pump price to N97/ltr after series of negotiations with the Labour unions to call off the strike. Fast forward to 2015. PMB led FG said subsidy was a fraud, that there is nothing like subsidy. They promised to fix the refineries, that Nigeria won't import fuel anymore. Has it been done? NO! May 2016, PMB increased pump price from N97/ltr to N145/ ltr, claiming Subsidy has been removed. No rally, no protest, no strike from actors of 2012 strike .....even from Nigerians! # Jazzed ? NASS found out that FG has been paying subsidy unappropriated! Suddenly, the lid broke, FG was paying subsidy , despite claims of its removal! FG claimed it was Nnpc that was paying and not FG NNPC says they are not paying subsidy, but it's "differential", after more pressure from suspecting public, they renamed it "under recovery" . Oil marketers threatened to stop importation of fuel in Dec 2018 if their "subsidy" payment was not paid. FG quietly paid . Guess what, this year, subsidy funds is in the 2019 budget! N1.1trn! .. as they are tired of defending indefensible Question: Why are we not buying fuel at N97/ltr all these while (from 2016) when FG is still paying subsidy? Where are SNG, NLC, TUC, Civil society groups, Nollywood celebrities, eminent participants etc ? Who is occupying Nigeria today? I hate when well informed people set out to deliberately misinform the public to score a cheap point. I am very sure that you are well aware of how the need to subsidise fuel arises. The need for Subsidies can arise a few days after removing the previous one if the the price of crude or the value of naira falls and the government is unwilling to do the right thing to avoid the backlash that comes with price increases. |

[quote author=IamV post=110024852]I strongly believe nobody is against an average Muslim lady wearing hijab at federal government owned schools or Muslim owned schools, the bone of contention have always being Muslim students insisting they will be wearing hijab in christian missionary schools, which they know have principles and guideline which every student of that school must abide by,which wearing hijab is against the rules of the school. It's a Christian school, and you must respect the ethic and dress code governing the school. Please get your facts before making comments on this issue. These schools where established by the churches but now taken over and funded by the government. Governments laws now apply to the schools. If the missionaries' wants complete control of the schools, what they should do is take measures to take back these schools from the government. Untill that is done , government rules apply. |

I just kind of do not understand this issue of rape in marriage. We keep promoting wives refusal to give it to their husbands. What do u expect the husband to do, cheat, divorce her over what she refused to tell him. If she can not open up to him on grudges why getting married to him. lf she is offended by his action let her report to her parents that he raped her. Men, stop been manipulated by your wives using sex. She is trying to control him using sex otherwise she should have explained the reason if she actually have any. By the way if he had not done it by force the worst case is he begins to suspect over time that she is having it outside and i tell u this will destroy the marriage faster, or may be that is what she wants. |

IPIGSRHYPO: Nope
I beg where did your leaders come from? Are they from another country or planet? Your leaders are a true representation of the people in the country. Your leadership is a microcosm of what you are. Remove all the present leaders today and replace them with youths on NL, activists, and other ordinary Nigerians and I can guarantee you that it will be the same or even worse. The fact of the matter is that the average Nigerian is greedy, selfish and have very little concern about their larger community, they care mostly about themselves. Until you have a large part of your society who actually cares more about othere/community than themselves, you will continue to have the kind of leadership that you have now. It's not rocket science, it's simple logic. Thank you very much. For the first time I have come across a Nigerian who shares the same opinion as I do on Nigeria's predicament. We kept on blaming our leaders for every wrong within our country forgetting that they are a good representation of who we are as a Society. We mostly do not stick to rules but want things to change for the better. The desired change we want in Nigeria should start from us otherwise our situation will only get worse. |

What that guy said that really hurt me is that he expects them to be too exposed for allowing Kanu speak for them. I wrote something like that yesterday. Your greatness will not be recognized through bragging but through your actions and utterances. So true. Given any opportunity they heap insults on the NORTH and still expect the support of the North to produce a President. Even the little voices of moderation from amongst them have been silenced by intimidation. At the moment, candidates from the SS/SW stand a better chance of getting votes from the North. Even with the large land mass the forest lacks enough vegetation once the dry season set in. In addition unlike the south rains starts late and the dry season sets early meaning that the north has a short rainy season. There are a lot of wetland where they could have been grazing their cattle in the dry season but unlike the south the dominant occupation up north is farming therefore most of those wetland are cultivated in the dry seasons. In fact thats were all the tomatoes and the rest are coming from. mrkings84: I learned the land mass in the North is 100 times larger than what we have down south. I now see how and why it is easy for these bandits to kidnap hundreds of people and hide them in the forest for months and the security agencies won't be able to locate them and even if they do locate them they can't rescue the captives.
But what I don't understand is how with this large land mass they have they couldn't rear their cows up there but are bent teeth to bring them down South |
