Suspect this DANA to be a former sosoliso, pls if any info on the make of Dana could someone share with us.

Better man, your suspicion is well founded judging by the similarity in their looks but Sosoliso had the DC 9 aircraft
while DANA has the MD-83 which was updated from the DC 9.

The DANA airplane that was involved in the birdstrike was not a glider. A glider is designed to fly without engine power, hence it is towed up by another powered airplane and released to fly on a hot day in thermal currents which basically are updraughts caused by warm rising air which provide it with the lift
the glider pilot relies on to sustain its flight manouvres. DANA was a medium heavy twin engine jet transport plane. With a loss of both engines, it lacks the light weight and aerodynamic design to sustain flight without initiating a descent so as to maintain an airspeed above its stall speed. This is achievable but with a high rate of descent and depending on the altitude this occurs, i leave the rest to your imagination.

Good attempt but still a layman's impression of aircraft performance in relation to birdstrike. Planes cannot fly without power during cruise. Power can be at idle during descent and near full during takeoff and climb. A bird crossing the takeoff path can strike an aicraft on any part of the aircraft. This could be the fuselage or the engine. Impact on the engine intake is most dangerous because of the damage on the engine inlet vanes and the possibility of an engine flame out. Aircraft are designed to be able to fly even with one engine out in a twin engine aircraft. Pilots are trained recurrently on how to deal with such a situation so that when the time comes they can effect the drill and control the aircraft back to make a successful landing. The most critical point for a birdstrike is at lift-off when you have low airspeed and nil altitude. Happy flying to all Nairalanders.

That driver could have just as easily driven onto the runway during the aircraft's
take off roll and brought about a head on collision of very grave consequences.

The phenomenon whereby upper air mass is warmer than the lower air mass
is known in metereology as an inversion. Ordinarily the saying is true that the
higher you go, the cooler it becomes, hence warm air rises and cools during its
ascent at a drop of 3 degrees centigrade every 1000 feet.
Presently we have an abnormal occurence where the lower air mass is cooler
so it stays down trapping the pollutants that should have risen and acted as
ingredients in the formation of clouds and consequently causing rainfall.

Tnx so much. U ve really answered my questn (up to maxmimum of 15 degrees). Forgive me for the wrong register; I'm still a layman in Aviation, learning from secondary sources. However, I hear 4rm documentaries and literature about ANGLE OF TAKEOFF, which they explain as that maximum angle when the nose can b pulled up to avoid TAIL STRIKE (Tail strike often happens, but dont really cause accidents).

Depending on the size of the aircraft and its model, I hear it can range from 8deg to 11 degr to 14 and 15 degrees. Of course, it is practically impossible for an airplane to takeoff with about 30 degr or like a rocket 90 degrees.

Pls, Sandee, if I may ask. R u in the Aviation area? Pls, I need to have a pilot friend. I like that job, not minding the TERRIBLE RISK. I want to see if I can become a pilot. I want to learn more. Caution: I am above 30 years.

I understnd u come 4rm a Pilot's family. Could u pls, assist me with the question I posed early? What is the takeoff angle of most airplanes? I do NOT mean the Climbing angle(s); I mean takeoff. I know it varies from plane to plane. Can i have the range?

Honestly, I would have loved to be a pilot. I love airplanes. I sincerely do.

In fact, Air Crash investigation documentaries have made me to be aware of what to do in case there is a mayday - GOD FORBID!

There is no such thing as take-off angle sir. But you have take-off speed that varies from plane to plane and increasing with plane size and weight.
There is climb speed that determines the climb angle, thus you have best angle of climb speed, best rate of climb speed and economy climb speed.
Climb angle gives highest climb for shortest distance, best rate gives highest climb for shortest time and economy gives you best climb for fuel burn.
However when any airplane lifts off the runway, the initial rotation is to 15 degrees above the horizon, which gives the maximum lift to the wings. This angle relative to the horizon is known as the angle of attack and varies with the speed and lift of the airplane. I don tire for lecture.

No pilot is under any pressure to operate an aircraft in bad weather. Professionally, its
a no go area and i dont see why a company would risk equipment, lives and reputation
to operate a flight that can be delayed until an improvement in weather conditions.

rub it off the gauge before he commenced pumping my own demand for a full tank. I had
made up my mind to teach him a lesson so i said nothing until he had finished pumping. I
got into the car, started the engine and when he came round to ask for his money i gave
him a slap and threatened to lock him up if he said another word. Knowing his crime but not
knowing whom his "victim" could turn out to be he quietly retreated rubbing his face soberly.

My first time was like i had been there before.

This is really serious oh . . . .  how come the gas stations aint doing anything about this.

Because all at the gas stations are involved. They collaborate towards this cheating. When you
complain to the duty manager, he will come up with what he knows you want to hear but the truth
is that he collects his share of the loot at closing time. As such the attendant acts with confidence knowing
that if they are caught they are not liable to disciplinary measures. Corruption in Nigeria is everywhere.
