PoliticsRe: Buhari Speaks From Both Sides Of His Mouth - Obasanjo by sarmy(m): 5:24pm On May 27, 2018
vinnex:
At times when i read people's comment on important issues, i wonder if they read before commenting or if they really understand their own comment.
Obasanjo has raised a current serious issue bothering on live and property which the present administration has failed to tackled. In a situation where some person go about with dangerous weapons and killing people at will and the government is not doing anything to stop the killers, then something is wrong somewhere.
The president is changing mouth at every opportunity he has each time armed herdsmen issues are raised.
Obasanjo has raised a point, let the president answer him.
Obasanjo has nothing to loose but the generation present and future is our concern.
Pls, lets learn how to comment on issues putting aside destractions..
Thank you, I just don't understand why we keep avoiding serious issues but keep talking about the person raising an issue of general concerns

Why is it that we always ignore important issues and attack whoever is raising the issue, the only way nigeria can move forward is when we all comdem bad things no matter who calls our attention to it.

Obj is saying the truth.

PoliticsRe: Soyinka Blasts Buhari Over Herdsmen Killings by sarmy(m): 3:01pm On Apr 28, 2016
jerseyboy:
Jonathan was mediocre at best. He was a weak and indecisive leader. So much so that he can hardly get credit for the few good things he accomplished. It was easy for any person given to uncompromising standards to not like Jonathan. But then elections are about choices. And given not much of a choice between Jonathan and Buhari anyone with the love of civil liberties would have held their nose and supported Jonathan.

There is a Yoruba saying that even when we are crying we must still be seeing.

I could understand the generation that came of age after Hausa-Fulani military rule not having experienced the complete subjugation of other Nigerians to second class citizenship. But Soyinka's generation witnessed the conquest and effects first hand.

Obasanjo's greatest achievement as president was the neutralization of some of the institutionalized 'privileges' the military had built for the Hausa-Fulani oligarchs. This first grabbed my attention when during his regime when at a Nigerian Embassy I over heard a conversation between two northerners complaining bitterly how the unimaginable is happening at the villa as Yoruba language is being spoken in the corridors of power at Aso Rock Villa. Hither to Hausa had become the semi official language of the military and of government. By insisting on merit on many things Obasanjo began a roll back than at the end of his tenure he was the most hated Nigeria by the Hausa-Fulanis.

On a last note for those who say 'if they don't perform we will vote them out in 2019 just as we did Jonathan' you are on a long road. Obasanjo who was brought in by the north because theytrusted him having been at their beck and call as military head of state became their biggest regret the second time around. The more time removed them from direct power at the center the more desperate they got. Jonathan became a nightmare for them. They imagined as an Ijaw man he could announce one day that Nigeria was dissolved. Now that they are back in charge they will never give that power away again.
What a pity, many will not understand this. Yes, Jonathan was not good enough but giving power back to the north will hunt the south for years to come.

Jonathan has finished the prospect of any Ijaw man; by extension, Igbo man to become a president of this country for life.

This is the fear of everybody right from d 60s that when these people gets to power just like in 60s(Aguiyi Ironsi regime), there would be chaos everywhere and that is exactly what is happening now

I ll advise those two tribes to ask for their independence now......

I think this guy asked a valid question, I propose that people should stop giving birth until God change his mind about this hell of a thing. grin grin grin

Why giving birth if there is no 100% assurance that the child will make it to heaven.

No child asked to be born, so why placing this huge burden on them to live a particular life style (which is a narrow path) so as to make heaven

Continuous abstinence will be dangerous because the weakening of the body will also result in weakened emanation from the body making it very possible for such a physical body to be subject to alien influences. In such a state it is very easy to be demonically influenced or be subject to possession by an alien disembodied spirit. Best Wishes.
You are right

I cant help but quote this again, even though it is lengthy!
God bless you real mighty for the above.
I am sure you're NOT A PASTOR but your post reminds me of the Biblical saying that "Wisdom would be (is) found
IN THE MOUTH OD BABIES! (No Offense to your person).

I recall growing up, when l was told and read in the Bible that "a man cannot wear a woman's cloth".
So, in my naivety, l asked: WHAT EXACTLY IS A MAN"S CLOTH, knowing that my Mum's wrapper is a Ghananian man's cloth and her Skirt is a Scottish man's traditional apparel!
Well, l was given a long list of Buba and Sokoto!  grin grin
Curiously, l reasoned that God's Law are UNIVERSAL and ETERNAL without boundaries and as such,
the observed discrepancy in the interpretation given by our "men of God" is completely obtuse and inadequate!

Reading the post above and how it "broke things down into simple A-B-C", is marvelous.

How l wish Pastors can preach and reason like this? huh huh

I really appreciate you for that post.

Cheers.

BTW: Can you please elucidate on the Term "MIRACLE" as connoted in Christian worship. Thank you.

What arrant nonsense.

First off , Christianity was started by Christ and not by some white man in Europe  grin

In the time of Christ , Europe was mainly inhabited by pagans. The Christian faith was started by Jews.

Secondly , many of us will rather worship the true and living GOD than bow before stones and idols , objects made with the hands of man and which can neither speak nor hear.

African tradition while rich culturally is steeped very deep in human sacrifice, polygamy, killing of twins, tribal endless wars, slavery and host of other unmentionable vices.

Without the white man and his missionaries, you will probably be in a cave somewhere learning how to make idols and or chanting incantations to spirits of the yonder world.

Thank GOD light came to Africa, we are done with superstition, voodoo and ignorance, but most importantly we know JESUS the king of kings and the Lord of Lords , the giver of ultimate life

You are severely misguided, who told you the Jews are God's chosen people, have you read the bible at all.

In old testament terms of course , but in this new testament dispensation the CHURCH of GOD is the chosen of GOD consisting of both Jew and Gentile.

Stop deceiving yourself, come to a knowledge of the truth,
By the way, this is very confusing, Jews were the God's chosen people in the old testament but in the new testament, the church of God are the chosen people of God.
Christianity EtcRe: Can man live without God? Why do people who reject God seem to live happy lives by sarmy(m): 4:21pm On Nov 02, 2011

Not everyone who rejects God is an empty pleasure-seeker, however. There are many unsaved people who live disciplined, sober lives—happy and fulfilled lives, even. The Bible presents certain moral principles which will benefit anyone in this world—fidelity, honesty, self-control, etc. But, again, without God man has only this world.

Getting smoothly through this life is no guarantee that we are ready for the afterlife. See the parable of the rich farmer in Luke 12:16-21 and Jesus’ exchange with the rich (but very moral) young man in Matthew 19:16-23.

What shall a man be profited if he were to gain the entire world and yet forfeit his eternal soul.

It's akin to not seeing beyond our noses for want of a better description.
When God made the first man, God never promised him any after life heaven or hell, God promised him only one thing (this world), that he will return to the dust for out of it he came.

Whosoever can live a good moral life need not worry over after life, even God does not want us to worry over afterlife, if not he would have told the first man he created.

Please forgive me, I'm still a newbie on NL so I haven't experimented with quoting. maybe some other time I'll do that,

@ Frosbel, again, I tell you human beings suffer from hyper inflated sense of self. I don't need the promise of heaven or hell to live a fulfilled and worthy life. I am good for goodness sake, not because I am afraid the devil will poke my butt with his pitchfork when we meet in hell lol! I don't need a bible or other scripture to live a worthy life.

@ ronkebp yes, I took my religion out for a walk the other day and I don't know where I left it. All I know is that it's gone and I'm still the same (yesterday, today and forever!) Sorry that was a bad joke. I mentioned in my post that scripture is not enough proof for me because "it is 2000 year old 2nd hand gist" I'm sure you'll agree that what we study as the bible today is a phenomenon that has mutated over the course of several centuries. But if that fact is nothing but a minor detail to you, who am I to argue?

@ chowbaby it's nice to be on the same page with someone here!
Thanks for that, people should live fulfilled life with or without the the promise of heaven or fear of hell.

The question should've been, "can man live without religion and it's structures and contents?". And the answer to that is a big fat YES. No living being can live without the creator, on the other hand. Religion and God are not the same thing.
So, what about the 2nd question, why do people who reject God seem to live happy lives

Do you agree with this statement and if not why?

You used the right word"seem to be happy" but are they actually happy? Do you know what they are going through? Maybe you can try it and see living without God.

For the record; christianity is NOT a religion shocked shocked shocked
If christianity is not a religion then what is it, when people asked what your religion is, how do you answer them

To many people christianity is a religion, most especially those that are making good money out of it. In fact, it's a business empire.

Christianity EtcRe: Why Have Jews Been Persecuted So Much Throughout History? by sarmy(m): 5:20pm On Oct 26, 2011
frosbel:
Remember that the CHOSEN seed is now the CHURCH.

While the JEWS occupy a special place in Christianity, remember that the promise is now spiritual not physical.

For no one is a Jew who is merely one outwardly, nor is circumcision outward and physical. But a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. His praise is not from man but from God. (Romans 2:28-29; ESV)

“This means that Abraham’s physical descendants are not necessarily children of God. Only the children of the promise are considered to be Abraham’s children” (9:8: NLT).
Yes, the chosen are now the church

But the Jews the physical descendants of Abraham have never really enjoyed all through their life.

Right from slavery in Egypt, wars in Canaan land,  wars with Syrians and other neighbouring nations

Was there a time they really had peace, despite being the chosen nation up till now?

Even though some will argued that they disobeyed God, what about the nations that do not know God and yet they are better
Christianity EtcRe: Why Have Jews Been Persecuted So Much Throughout History? by sarmy(m): 4:54pm On Oct 26, 2011
frosbel:
My 50 cents is that we have to LOVE the JEWS as we do all MEN.

We also have to take cue from their fall, as we are not immune to their mistakes, if we disobey God and despite his constant entreatment we reject him, we will be driven from his presence , open to the devil's attacks, until such a time when we repent and turn back to him.
Other races not as persecuted as the Jews, are they 100% obedience to God?

I still don't get why they should be going through all the persecutions despite being loved by God and chosen people

Were they chosen to suffer?
Christianity EtcRe: Atheists - What's This Life All About? by sarmy(op): 4:18pm On Oct 26, 2011
nodogma:
You may need to define what you mean by "atheist." I do not believe in the god of the bible, but I do believe that we are all spiritual beings having an earthly experience and based on our actions here on earth we will either transcend to a deeper level of being that is no longer on earth or not. Our purpose here is to utilize our gifts and talents to make this world a better place while we are here. Believing in the God of the bible is not necessary to do this. For those who are poor or suffering, we can offer them solace and peace as much as we can while we are here. This life is about learning the various lessons that we were sent here to learn, this differs for everyone. For some they have come to learn patience and charity, others must overcome covetousness and greed etc. Not everyone will be able to do this. Again for some the bible and god of the bible may be their path to transcending their lower selves and reaching a higher level of being or consciousness. But we all do not need to follow the bible or Christianity to live fully.
I mean rejection of belief in the existence of God or that any deities exist. That we are a product of no maker or spiritual being.

From your perspective, you only do not subscribe to the God of the Bible but still believe in spirituality and deities
Christianity EtcAtheists - What's This Life All About? by sarmy(op): 3:29pm On Oct 26, 2011
Dear Atheist,

What's this life all about, why do we have to spend so much catering for the sick when eventually they will still die, what's your motivation for a sustainable life or what's the purpose of life to you

Why do we keep sustaining life of those being spent in poverty, sickness etc when it all a product of chance (not a product of a maker as you claim), can't we end it all and be at peace by returning all to the state of a non-existence

Just a thought and need answers from you guys. Thanks
Christianity EtcRe: Word Of God And the Bible, 100% The Same? by sarmy(op): 8:13pm On Oct 19, 2011
Joagbaje:
The entire words in the bible are definitely not the word of God. The bible is a compilation of books . Which contains the word of God, words of men, words of angels ,words of Satan and words of demons . but what we have documented in the bible were documented by Gods inspiration. Even though not everything documented were spoken by God.

But the word of God for the christian is anything; words ,thoughs ,ideas that is consistent with Gods plan and purpose for us in christ Jesus. That is Gods word to us. "I am legion , for we are many" is definitely Gods word for us. En though it's documented in the bible.
I want to agree with you on this, word of God can come from anywhere, bible, thoughts, ideas, etc

It should be consistent with God's plan & purpose for us in Christ

Question: What do you do if you read a passage from the bible and think it's not in consistent with how you percieve the plan and purpose of God for your life.

"The Words which i have spoken to you are spirit"jhn6:63,Men were inspired/spoken to by the Holy Spirit to write every single word in the Bible, they never wrote any words by themselves, they were inspired by the Holy Spirit to write even word in the Bible, wether they wrote about  Satan and a speaking dog/donkey it is still Gods word,God told them to write it because its His word.
There are some passages in Paul's epistles where he specifically stated what he said was personal opinion not direct instruction from God

So there could be hundreds of such in the bible, written based on the writers perspective at that point in time, some were written based on 3rd party narrations of events, do we consider all of them as direct word of God.
Christianity EtcWord Of God And the Bible, 100% The Same? by sarmy(op): 3:00pm On Oct 19, 2011
Is every passage in the bible 100% spoken word of God

Is there some verses not 100% word of God

Why can't our church leaders & most xtains keep all the intructions in the bible if they are 100% word of God

If some verses of the bible are not 100% word of God, how do we differenciate them, why are some xtains equating bible as God

Can we proof that every single verse of the bible is direct word of God.

Pls my intention is to know more about the bible not to downgrade it. A lot of passages in the bible are highly inspirational. Thanks

What kind of bodies would be attained in heaven, if a boy of 10yrs dies and goes to heaven would he retain that 10year old body for all eternity or be given a new body of a 30yrhuh? old man.

If an old woman of 90 dies and goes to heaven would she have a new body of a 40yrs old lady or retain that 90yrs body.
