Also, there is some indication that Asari Dokubo and some of the initial members of NDPVF are getting their demands met soon, so the thugs and touts are trying to cash in their final cheques in case peace is finally brokered.
asari is no much of an issue now, demands will keep on coming.

If you don't take time Babagana Kingibe will leave office before Ribadu, Nigeria is a Presidential system of Government. We don't do Prime Minister so Kingibe should stop acting like one.
Maybe because ekaette was docile, kingibe has experience, i didnt supprt his appointment earlier but yaradua needs to balance on both sides .

talk is cheap, lets give him time, but the guy has started slowly, after 100 days i dont think we will have achieved anything, i wonder what he is doing with Nepa.

i didnt expect an inspiring list, ojo madueke as foreign affaris minister is still much better than him being the chairman of the party. i hope koro doesnt make the list, 35 names plus 3 from anpp, 2 from ac and 1 from ppa.41 ministers, when are we going to change all these bureacracy.
All in all, its still early as we dont have the full authentic list to ponder on.

PoliticsRe: Ali Condemns Obasanjo’s Reforms by sartorius(op): 7:33am On Jul 04, 2007
Ali, irked by the sale of public institutions and the withdrawal of subsidy on agriculture, wondered why Obasanjo should embark on such ventures at all.

He said at his investiture as a Senior Honourary Fellow of the Economic Institute in Abuja that rather than open up the economy for competition, it should be protected first and stabilised.

His words: "This is an age of ‘sell up everything’, including the family chamber. I don’t encourage all the sales. I don’t see why Federal Government Colleges should be sold. I don’t also see why certain things that are of national security should be sold, but we have not gone out to sell everything yet. May be at one point we must designate certain things for purpose of national security or otherwise

PoliticsRe: United States Of Africa (what Ur View) by sartorius(m): 2:47pm On Jul 02, 2007
Regional integration is still in the pipeline, no one knows if it will be successful, Libyan leader Moammar Gadaffi is an impatient man, with the attention span of a four-year-old. No wonder he was sidelined by the Arabs and became an overnight Pan-African in 2002. Gadaffi now wants to be king of a United States of Africa and is doling out fistfuls of oil-dollars to persuade the continent’s leaders that his big-bang approach is the way to go. In Tripoli last week he sought to win the support of the Maghreb and Francophone African countries ahead of this weekend’s African Union summit, where a USA is on the agenda. He wants a common currency, the Afro; political union; a continental army; and a super-African president -- himself.

Gadaffi’s loony ideas deserve no support. African unity is an ideal to strive for , but slowly. Without strengthening regional community structures, it cannot succeed. The existing unions for Southern, Eastern, Central and West Africa have a chequered record, and are a long way from economic and political integration. In the Horn and in Central Africa the principles of the African Union are still a dream. Ongoing abuse in Darfur and a stuttering peace in post-electoral Democratic Republic of Congo are urgent concerns for the AU.

The regional bodies should be able to ensure that the African peer review system works properly to sustain democracy and they should be moving towards trading and labour pacts to cut the costs of intra-African commerce. Ideally, passport and visa controls should be curbed so that people and goods can move more easily. But this is hard slog because visa and customs revenues are still crucial for most states.

I normally don’t spend a great deal of time thinking about my sperm.

But recently a team of scientists announced they had made artificial sperm from human bone marrow, and media reports abounded with the dire news that my goodfellas (and by extension, me) had been rendered unnecessary.

If a woman chose to do so, speculated tabloid journalists, she could make sperm from her own bone marrow, fertilize another woman’s egg — and voila!

They used to tell me that the world was coming to an end, i didnt believe but i am rethinking now. embarassed

grin i knew he would say so, who will ask andy?

Senator Ikechukwu Obiora (PDP, Anambra South) even while expressing his appreciation of the president’s action said public declaration of assets was not his major problem. According to him, he was more worried by the continued detention of Chief Ralph Uwazuruike and other leaders of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) who he said were now critically ill.

Senators divided over Yar’Adua’s assets declaration.

PoliticsRe: Yar'adua Declares His Assets by sartorius(op): 7:45am On Jul 01, 2007
Section 6 (1) of the Fifth Schedule to the Constitution says: "A public officer shall not ask for or accept property or benefits of any kind for himself or any other person on account of anything done or omitted to be done by him in the discharge of his duties".

Section 6 (2) further forbids "the receipt by a public officer of any gifts or benefits from commercial firms, business enterprises or persons who have contracts with government, " So, what is the source of the gifts to the Yar'Aduas?

Nigerians are now asking more questions , i think its really good for our democracy. Yaradua has set a good example of being modest, some local goverment chairmen are richer than him.

GNature:
As far as the economy is concerned, Yar'Adua needs to surround himself with technocrats like Okonjo-Iweala, Bode Agusto, Ezekwesili, Soludo etc. He needs to appoint people based on their credentials and not their ethnic background or just for political reasons. He should surround himself with people that'll give him advise that'll benefit the country as a whole and not protect their interests. Otherwise, we are going to regress.
[/quote

he wont be able to survive with only technocrats, he would have to accomodate some politicians, i hope he balances it well. his declared assets is what some guvnors use as gifts

NLC queries Yar’Adua’s assets declaration

Speaking last night, NLC’s Head of Information, Comrade Owei Lakemfa said labour will always welcome anything done towards ensuring transparency in government, but will definitely not overlook some aspects that need looking into.

"Anything that is done towards ensuring transparency in government will be welcomed. However, some questions arise.

"Who authenticated it to know they (the assets) are true? How much tax does he pay on such wealth? What were Yar’Adua’s assets before he became governor? And what is the difference between the then assets and the ones he just declared?"

The NLC demanded to know the motive for the assets declaration, asking if it was not a public relations or image laundering stunt.

"The President is a beneficiary of political corruption since everybody knows how he got to office."

The NLC spokesman enjoined the President to explain the source of the wealth properly to convince Nigerians that he means well.

About the monies explained in the assets declaration as "campaign and post campaign contributions", Lakemfa said monies donated to parties and candidates for campaign cannot be regarded as personal money.

"If there are contributions for campaign, it does not become personal money. So we need a holistic approach to cleansing our country," he said.

A Rivers State nominee, is also said to be having "some problems" but the nature of the problems remained unclear as at press time.
It was also learnt that four of the former ministers in the Obasanjo administration may be returned to the Federal Executive Council. Two of them are said to be from the North-central states, while the other two are from the North-western states.
