the truth of the matter is that the economy cant sustain a a completely deregulated price, we still need a little subsidy, plus its more like the only benefit we get from an inefficient, corrupt ruling elite, i read the governors want to share excess crude almost 2 billion $ to cushion effect of debt profile ( sic = stolen loot), its this not money down te drain |
denex argument is a little faulty, when making comparison please include other opec countries. the idea of freemarket is nice, but we lack an efficient mass railway/transit system which would have cushioned all the effects. |
by monday people will back out of the strike if it lasts that long |

the gulf of guinea has great potentials, who knows maybe oil will pop out in lake chad on the eve of judment day |
if we were to be honest with ourselves, they have to be a measure of fiscal control by the goverment so 70 aint all that bad, whereas less than 6 states sell at the regulated price. the major problem is corruption, if these indirect tax are being properly utilised nigerians wouldnt complain. prices at the international market are heading for about $100 per barrel. so there is no way the goverment can subsidise that, it would affect main priorites like power and infrastructure. The refineries have to be rejuvinated, private investors wouldnt sell at theses subsdised rates so maybe if the could be a managment concessioninig, some argue that another TAM would go the same way, as corruption is a way of life in 9ja. local crude could be sold to these private refineries at cheaper rates for the nigerian public so as to make gains, but oil explopers like shell and chevron might kick under the faulty joint venture programme |

Former Inspector-General of Police (IG) Mr Sunday Ehindero has been cleared of any wrongdoing in the N21.1 million cash probe. But Mr John Obaniyi, a Commissioner of Police and the former officer in-charge of Budget, has questions to answer for alleged negligence, professional misconduct and indis-cipline. He was suspended, pending conclusion of investigation into the case barely two weeks ago. Some aides of Obaniyi had been arrested while attempting to move two travelling bags containing money out of the Force Headquarters, Abuja. Obaniyi was later picked up. During interrogation, he reportedly told Acting Inspector-General of Police Mr Mike Okiro that the bags containing the money belonged to Ehindero. The interim investigation report, which Okiro submitted to President Musa Yar’Adua, however absolved the former IG of any blame. Okiro said: "It is disappointing that the Commissioner of Police (Budget) lied to me, when I conducted an on-the-spot check in his office on June 6, 2007. "He had told me that the cash balance in his possession was N4 million and $200,000 (USD 200,000) meant for payment of allowances for officers and men who participated in peacekeeping operations outside the country. "Subsequently, he admitted during interrogation on discovery of the twenty-one million, six hundred and fifty thousand naira (N21,650,000.00) that he knew the balance was in a store in his office. The non-disclosure of this fact is a sufficient proof that he wanted to do away with the money, without the knowledge of the force management." http://www.thenationonlineng.com/dynamicpage.asp?id=22641 |

The nation controversial publication came as a comic relief, i hope is not one of tinubu's mischief. The paper has two identical photographs on the front page staring the reader. On the right is a familiar photograph of obj, Zero Zero if you like, and on the left is an old black-and-white photograph of obj look-alike. In the caption, the newspaper makes it clear that the photograph on the left is not that of Olusegun Obasanjo .The man in the picture, it says, was an Igbo police officer who lived in the Abeokuta area in the 1930s, about the time Obj was born. The police officer later became a monarch on a prominent South-Eastern throne. But before leaving the South-West, he interracted fruitfully with the local community and had a brief affair with an Owu lady. The newspaper didn’t say more. There was no need to. So does that now mean that the Igbo have had their shot at the presidency (1999-2007), |
