Webmasters / Re: Do You Think Nairaland Will Still Be Nigeria's No 1 Forum In 10 Years? by sarutobi: 7:20am On Apr 29, 2015 |
davidsmith8900: Nigerians are trendy. Basically we are aggressive consumers of western technology. We find what they do to be cool and by so doing ignored our own. Our local companies prefer to do business with microsoft or google. There was a messaging app like whatsApp from Uganda launched around 2005 in Uganda, guess what nobody cared about it and it died but immediatley whatsApp came out much later, everybody is using it. When i started programming, i wanted to create something cool, I know i can. But who will use my product? So, Nigerian programmers are creative but creativity will never put food on your table here. 2 Likes |

Webmasters / Re: Pay Before OR After Cpanel Handover? How Do I Handle This Client? by sarutobi: 4:29pm On Apr 21, 2015 |

Wow! Very good comments. I agree too that the terms were not properly laid out. Since i hosted the website, i have control over the cpanel and domain. I also know that there must be a way to reset things in case she decides to be smart. What prompted me to take down the website was the barrage of threats and insults i got from her. @Grime: its not a case of anyone being skeptical, i just feel she is trying to delay the payment for as long as she can. I have been very straightforward in my dealings with her up until this point. The funny thing is that this is not my first, I have been doing websites since 2007, but this is my first client from Nairaland. I think there is a lesson to be learnt here. As you guys have pointed out.. i will put back the website and send all details to her. But first, we will have to agree on a day for the final payment. |
Webmasters / Re: Pay Before OR After Cpanel Handover? How Do I Handle This Client? by sarutobi: 7:06pm On Apr 20, 2015 |
Thanks guys. The initial agreement was 50% before project starts (which has been paid) and 50% once the website has been completed Then i manage it for 2 years. I just feel i will be at her mercy once i send those details to her. The fact that she has not paid the balance all this while is what is making me think this way. |

Hello Fellow Webmasters, There is a situation i have found myself, i am looking for experienced advice. I have completed a job for a client almost 2 months ago, but every time i ask for my balance, it is from one story to the other. It is either she called me i did not pick up or she does not understand how certain parts of the site functions. Despite the fact that i have sent her everything that she requested and she has said on many occasions that she is satisfied with the job. This has gone on for over a month now. And after calling her today, she said i should send the login details of the entire site (the Cpanel Admin Login). I told her i cannot do that until i get my balance and she rained me with abuses. Infact i had to cut the call one time because of the swear words she was using. I took down the website today to see how she will deal with me because she promised me that i will REGRET it. So house, how do you deal with this kind of client? Thank you. |
Webmasters / Re: Codeigniter HMVC by sarutobi: 4:16pm On Apr 07, 2015 |
maekhel: If i get u correctly, what you want to do is have a main controller that in turn calls the other controllers depending on request? First make sure all your contollers extends MX_Controller class. use (require_once APPPATH."third_party/MX/Controller.php" ) With the library you have from wiredesign, call modules::run($a, $b, $c,....); from your main controller. - Where $a is the path to the controller file and method in the controller to call. e.g users controller and createUser action will be 'users/createUser'; - $b, $c etc are argument passed to the method being called Also Note that library mandates that you have all your controllers in a modules folder in the APP directory and that the controllers folder is also present in the app directory but it must be empty. Codeigniter was not designed with hmvc in mind, an this is more like a hack. var_dump the response from modules::run and let it guides you. The library itself is not well documented and you will have to do a lot of debugging to figure things out yourself. Good luck. |
Programming / Re: C++ Is Not Easy To Learn by sarutobi: 11:28pm On Mar 31, 2015 |
proxy23: Practice...Practice...Practice...Practice You cannot master C++ even in 10 years. It is not PHP and it is not Python. Even Bjarne Stroustrup CANNOT beat his chest and say he has completely tamed that beast! My advice, just go with the flow. Do your best and dont compare yourself with someone who is coding without looking at any book. That guy must have paid his dues. 1 Like |

Webmasters / Re: What Webhost In Nigeria Can Handle Website Traffic Like Facebook by sarutobi: 9:14am On Mar 30, 2015 |
daddynasa: The question is how many web hosts in the world can handle facebook traffic. Facebook is hosted on a custom infrastructure and your regular webshost cannot handle that much load. The short answer is NO. Long answer, just rent as many VPSs as Possible and load balance them, maybe you can come close. |

CodeHouse: A standing ovation for you sir. Nowadays, i visit the jokes and business sections more. I think that programming is not very popular among Nigerians. I have seen a few topics here hit the frontpage, but the response is nothing compared to a thread from the politics section. You are right about moderators sha.
