Webmasters / Re: My Wordpress Website Keeps Coming Blank by sarutobi: 11:02am On Oct 06, 2014 |
DaVinChiSam: What they are trying to say is this: When you load your website, most webservers scan your root dir for the "index.html" file before moving on to the index.php file Wordpress uses the index.php, and since you have a blank index.html file, apache (your webserver) will blindly serve you that. To avoid this in the future, you need to obvoiusly delete the index.html file so that your webserver can move on to serve you index.php There is another method which is the .htaccess file. In this file you can forcefully tell apache to laod the index.php file first Another way is to specify your root file in apache config, but i am guessing you are on a shared host hence u mite not have access to that. Cheers. |
Programming / Re: What Is Your Favorite Language For Numerical Analysis & Scientific Computation? by sarutobi: 4:03pm On Sep 23, 2014 |
Javanian: Fortran: Anyone who thinks FORTRAN is some ancient archaic language is speaking out of nothing but sheer ignorance. Lauded by many as the King of Programming Languages in Scientific Computation combined with its amazing speed (the fastest high level language), It seats on my number one spot in computational science. It's easy to learn, use and its imperative structure and enables fast prototyping coupled with support for arrays, modular programming and generic programming, object-oriented programming and concurrent programming. I agree with you. You can also check out R. From their site (http://www.r-project.org/): "R is a free software environment for statistical computing and graphics". |

Programming / Re: How Do I Read Through Huge PHP Code Samples? by sarutobi: 10:21pm On Jul 22, 2014 |
Ajistotle: I am a beginner programmer. I am interested in developing web applications and so I am learning PHP. I have read 2 books, an introduction to the the language and a more advanced one treating a little more advanced concepts like object oriented programming, serialization etc. I totally understand how you feel. Everybody who calls themselves pro have been where you are. This is what you should do: Every code has a start point. As in the case of php, the start script is often called the index.php file. This file includes core libraries and bootstraps them. These core libraries correspondingly loads related classes and instantiates them. These goes on an on until the the php process exits. Think of it like a call profile from the most general to the most specific. You must have a perfect understanding of oop and design patterns else everything will look like magic to you. Also try installing the xdebug module for your php version. Xdebug will show you what function called what other function etc. If you are using eclipse as your IDE, please take a look at the call stack for each page load. This technique is a shortcut and i strongly recommend you go with my first option. |
Pets / Re: Advice For A Novice On Raising A Rottweiler by sarutobi: 1:21pm On Jul 22, 2014 |
henry007: why would your dad run from his own dog?! I'm :s. it still didnt bite. maybe you shldnt let someone fearful feed your dog all the time , dogs can sense such. as for collar, I'm pretty sure you weren't taking the dog for walks outside the house so what's the use of the collar?! meanwhile walking a dog daily is very essential to its temperament. Ha my brother, the dog no sabi owner oo. As others have said, rotts can be very scary. No, i have never taken the dog for a walk before. We put the collar on him at a young age because dogs look better with a cute collar. When i start living alone, i intend getting a rott. I want to take it up as a challenge. I have seen some rott play with children but i wonder how people manage to achieve it. |
Pets / Re: Advice For A Novice On Raising A Rottweiler by sarutobi: 6:00am On Jul 22, 2014 |
Seun: Have you lived with dogs before (e.g. as a child)? If not, then getting a Rottweiler may be a mistake. If so, then it may still be a mistake. You know so much about dogs bro. We had a family rott (ROGER) that we ingnored for over 6 years. It greww very quickly and its skin was almost as strong as an elephant's. It wasn't totally our fault though, we were all still in boarding school back then and the only people he saw daily was my dad (who only feeds its btw). The problem started when nobody remembered to losen the collar on its neck as it grew. So the poor dog went through intense pain for 6 years+. It became extremely violent. Nobody could go close to it AT ALL. I beleive a rott's bite can tear off a human's limbs. We fed him like we were feeding a lion. It takes 3 people and the vet to inject this dog. Then one day it chased my dad, my dad fell, my mom could not even come out to help him. He just went over to my dad and started sniffing him while my dad lay there in shock and fear. My younger brothers came home from school and angrily killed it with some chemical. We have a gsd now, and i must say they are the best domestic dogs to have. I will keep following to learn more thanks. 2 Likes |

What i suggest we do is FAKE IT I do this most times at work. When we are given tasks i usually will complete mine quickly, but will still be staring at my system and scratching my head. Pretending to be confused is rewarding . Then i will have scrabble or chess in a mini window somewhere. Seriously though, it is difficult for pple to measure these things. |

Seun: Hadoop is Java based. Java runs equally well on Windows and Linux. You are correct. But just as mentioned above, Hadoop and its offsprings (HBase, Mahout, etc) will need cgywin to work on windows which means it cannot be used for production. those frameworks were developed for unix. |

nettwrock: Pls help me I bought a PC,ON loading it,I Found out dat the Local disk has 7GB&the R.A.M has 128MB,and i want to use it to run, joomla,MS OFFICE,WORDPRESS,&lot more, pls I want ur honest Opinion.what should I do? U forgot to mention its processor. 7gb is ok if its only programming u need but i recommend you upgrade ur HDD to at least 20GB. Upgrade the RAM to 512MB. Thats all u need. If u want the PC to run even more smoothly install windows xp. Lastly, if u dont mind u can install a very light debian distro like crunchbang. I use it on my laptop (dell 610), and it has 512 ram 10gb HDD. after boot, crunchbang only uses up 82MB of RAM, leaving the rest for other tasks like programming. PHP based apps like joomla will run smoothly under this configuration. |

Programming / Re: Pls Can I Begin Programming With My Dell Pentium 3 Computer&which Language? by sarutobi: 11:25pm On Dec 02, 2013 |
yes, you can program in most languages with ur PC. But make sure u use lightweight IDEs, forget about Eclipse, Netbeans or other heavy stuff Start with PHP, its the easiest i think. If u are on windows, download notepad++ to edit ur code, if u r on linux use gedit. They are very fast. Good luck. |
