Jobs/VacanciesHow Sharing My Experience On Nairaland Gave Me 15,000 Naira. by Sashafm(op): 8:48pm On Oct 27, 2015
It all began with a post "My Experience today as an Applicant". I was frustrated after a fruitless day, and came on Nairaland to share my experience. After the post I found a way to make myself fall asleep forcefully cry. Although the sleep was cut short by several vibrations from my phone sad, which annoyed me at first, as I was wondering why the phone kept buzzing every 2 minutes. I stood up and checked my phone to discover several mails from Nairaland asking to connect with different Nairaland users angry. I was perplexed and decided to check what was happening. Alas, my ranting post had made it to front page and different people from all works of life have had the opportunity to click on it. Some found it amusing, and wanted let me to know personally , some wanted to help me out, some wanted to toast me angry because of writing a post Haba!, and some people wanted to exploit me embarassed. Just barely 24 hours after my post, I received a mail, stating how the person was touched by my story and wanted to encourage me at least to get a "pair of comfortable Interview Shoes", for my future endeavors wink. Immediately I received an alert and it was the same amount stated in the mail grin grin.Yesterday I was disappointed in so many things, ranging from not being gainfully employed to being broke and frustrated, but today I am being encouraged not only in words but also in Kind from fellow Nairalanders. it gives me hope that this country will be great again and there is so many good things that can still come out of Nigeria. Which includes You and I. grin

I have really enjoyed creating this thread, sharing my story;I received quite a number of criticism and also quite a number of encouragement. The Struggle continues all the same. I was just so down when i got back today that I took to this forum to churn out my grievances and never regretted doing so. At least I had quite a number of good laughs from some post and above all, I hope someone, somewhere has learnt a thing or two from my experience and from people's views. smiley smiley

@OP

I feel your disappointment. you should not be desperate to land a job. if you have wanted to start working immediately after service, this should not be the best time to submit your cv, you should have applied to openings four months before the end of your service.

Other corp members should take this advise because no firm will accept your cv and immediately call for interview.

just be patient and be submitting your cv anywhere and don't put your mind on them. leave your line open and prepare because they will call when they feel like
Thanks to all that encouraged and to those that did otherwise.
Before my service year, I have been doing voluntary service with companies. Even during my service year, I was still able to work as a part time worker in two different places. But these kind of work is not what I dream to be the perfect work, Hence the need to search for a good place and create a niche for myself. I did not start the search now. But not is when it became glaring that there are no deserving jobs in this country. I am in the stage three of Standard Chartered Bank recruitment. KPMG , Stage two.But these companies take time to conclude their recruitment process and at the same time, ones eggs should not all be placed in a single basket. Alas, the need to start working.

Lesson number one..Never ever go for an interview with heels. They were not made for trekking.Biko, buy good flats and wear.If the job is your's ,its yours! No one cares if you are wearing a clarks shoe of 12k.Just dress well sha,in a way that the flats won't be really noticed.Secondly, going to apply in person doesn't pay most of the time.Your cv will just end up in the trashcan, that's if you are lucky enough to even get past the gateman.I can totally relate to your job search experience sha.God will see graduates through in Nigeria.
lesson learned ma'am kiss

My own best tips-
Since u knw ur career profile and where u wud fit in,get a list of companies u feel u cud fit in,goto dere websites(career),fill in ur app. Or u get dere company email and send ur CV dere.
Also jobberman is also a gud jobsites in itself wen dey want to but all ds scammer job vacancies re just ruining tins,so wat i do most times is list down all dos vacancies go look for d companies on google,if i find dem i apply directly, cos most times i doubt all dos applications sent via jobberman get to dere destinations
Quite true as I am yet to receive anything from Jobbermam after all the applications even before I left service.

Lol.

October 15th you finished NYSC? you no even let the Ink dry for Month end? You Don enter road?

I like your spirit.

You will get something don't worry, it's just a matter of time. Meanwhile, do not limit your scope to Jobs in Nigeria only.

Apply for Foreign Jobs too.

Go through the UN Website. They usually have openings, although it takes them almost a year to get back to you if they need you.

But, give it a shot.

Goodluck.
I will definitely try that.

Jobs/VacanciesMy Experience Today As An Applicant. by Sashafm(op): 2:17pm On Oct 26, 2015
Being recently churned out by NYSC, on October 15th of this month. I have always heard about how precarious it was to get a job in this country without connections, but I did not actually know the gravity of it until now. Armed with my 2.1 certificate from OAU (The best University wink) and my NYSC discharged certificate I thought now I have arrived to become gainfully employed.

I left Lagos for Abuja just 2 days after my POP, alas, after sending out countless applications and applying for any job that fits my criteria, I have not even been called for a single interview!!!.

I was swayed after a week and thought to myself, if I wouldn't be called for interviews I would go in search of the companies my self and make an appearance. I was Wrong sad. I am not really conversant with Abuja very well, but i was determined to go in search of a job physically instead of gazing at my laptop all day long. I dressed in my best, looked very corporate even wore my corporate court shoes that i painfully bought from my alawee in the hope that when I get called for interview by Standard chartered bank or PWC grin, I would launch it. Anybody that met me on the way would think I am a business executive,on my way to seal a contract deal.

Started the long journey to town as I stay close to the airport. on getting there I started from Wuse zone 3, as I had earlier sourced from the internet the addresses of companies that had posted vacancies in Abuja. My plan was to go and submit my CV in person .Unfortunately for me I was even unable to locate the offices as, the Address given on the internet did not even correspond. mogbe moment was activated as I was lost, broke and on heels with no direction. I was being turned back at most of the offices, that was when I realized the gravity of being an unemployed person. At a point removed my shoes and changed to my sanders as i had packed them in my bag. Dejected and sad, I turned back home. And here I am at home again. Glued to my laptop and scanning for job again. It is indeed pathetic.

Most of them are from rich families first of all. Though it doesn't stop youth from lower class to try and break records. Still requires zeal, connection and solid capital

I must say, I am really lucky to have been opportuned to stumble on this thread. Thank you so much Xfire and darellrivers etc for the wonderful inspiration.
I am 22years old, a graduate of Geography with 2.1,from one of the best federal universities in southwest. I actually had passion for Geography that was why I went to study it in the University. Unfortunately for me, I never for once though about what career opportunities the course would open me up too. I guess it has just began to done on me that Although i went for the course because I love it, there might not be more to it. I saddens me now when people advice me to go into teaching after my service year, when they find out I studied Geography. I would really appreciate it if someone can mentor me in career part to tow as a Geographer asides teaching and lecturing.
cc: xfire, darellrivers, bigdreams.
thank you for your anticipated response.
