So 4 Mancunians pray an injury-free Wazza jams at d mundial
I dunno where your ninnys spring out from but i ma put you to the sword.
The WC only takes precedence if there's no outstanding player(a player who is head/shoulders above others) in club competitions.
With the way Wazza is making top defenders look like twits in Europe, his credibility is building up at the speed of light.

If Arsenal's defending wasn't so shambolic on the free-kick,the ref guilty or not, wouldn't have been the object of this debate.
How everybody kept strolling back after a crisis situation had erupted (an in-direct kick in your 18-yard box) is another question to be asked, apart from frying Fabianski.
I thought the major priority woulda been to avoid the kick from being taken quickly.
Ref may have contributed, but it started with grade-A naivety on the Gunners part. The Porto player were never going to wait for Arsenal to forma a wall.Especially when not too many of them appeared to be in a hurry to defend the kick.
Referee contributed nowt.
Campbell touched the ball before Fabianski picked it. The referee did not conjure the freekick from nowhere.
The foul was committed because Campbell/Fabianski are dunderheads. What happened next was a show of horror. . . . .

Sauron, can you point out one thing Graham Poll has said to support Arsenal? even during the Eduardo issue he told us Eduardo had dived even when UEFA later said there was contact. The referee had control of the ball and dropped it.
Stop acting like a sore loser.
Graham Poll made this statement when he allowed Henry's freekick against Chelsea in 2004!!!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sportacademy/hi/sa/football/features/newsid_3409000/3409567.stm

That picture there is not of the initial free kick, it is the player having the second touch, the free kick had already been taken by the player standing by Sol Campbell. It is one of those things we will have to deal with though, wont matter if we beat them at the emirates.
Chirst Almighty!!!

An indirect free-kick was awarded. 2 or more team-mates must touch the ball before a goal can be allowed.
The player standing by the ball touched it first and the other geezer rolled the ball into the net.
There are so many retards supporting Arsenal - For someone who claims to know a lot of footie and yet he thinks a direct freekick is what is allowed when the back-pass rule is enforced is a disgrace.

@Sauron
musta, coulda, woulda, you are also guessing what Cesc discussed with the ref!
Na wa oooh
I am NOT guessing. . . . .These kinda dialogues happen day to day on the pitch.
When freekicks are about to be taken, the referees ask if players want it taken quickly.
As per the yellow card Cesc copped for taking it quick. . . . .kindly tell me the match it happened and i will extract the match report berating Cesc for trying to con the referee.

duduspace:
You are the one looking like a simpleton now, did you see any dialogue between the ref and the player who took that freekick? that guy should have been booked for playing the ball before the ref said anything. The ref only started raising his hand after the free kick had been taken.
Anyway yu can run your mouth how you like, I don't expect anything else from you.
The advantage lies with Porto. . . . . .
Quick freekick can be taken or he can also wait for the referee's whistle.
What he cannot do is tell the referee he will wait for the whistle and while the referee is arranging the wall of the defending team, he then takes it.
There are rules in football, you doofus!!!

From Graham Poll. . . .

First you have to deal with the principle of a free-kick.
If the attacking team are fouled then it is they who hold the advantage.

With a free-kick around the penalty area, we always ask the players whether they want it quick or slow.
This is their window of opportunity to surprise the defence.

If they want it quick, then they have given up the right to re-take it, no matter if it hits a defender who's three yards away.
The same goes if they kick it over the bar. They only get one chance.

The flip side is if they want it slow, they CANNOT then take it while I count out the ten yards for the wall.
They must wait for my whistle.

There is nothing in the laws of the game that say we have to indicate for the free-kick to be taken.
It's just like when someone wants to take a free-kick anywhere else on the field.

As long as the ball is stationary and in the right place then the attacking team can take it as quickly as they like.

By winning La Liga & Copa America.
2 inferior competitions. . . .It can never compare to winning the TREBLE.
Casillas won La Liga/Euro 2008, he did not become WPOTY in 2008.

While Schmeichel might have won the treble, Rivaldo had the better season.
Schmeichel IMO was not even your best player that season. I'll give that accolade to either Keane or Yorke.
Schmeichel was the player of the season in 99.
Without his goalkeeping exploits, Arsenal woulda kicked United out of the FA Cup semis. After going down to 10 men, Dennis Bergkamp had his penalty saved at 1-1. Had Schmeichel not saved that, United's TREBLE dreams woulda sunk like the Titanic.

@ Nou Camp, Carsten Jancker and his team-mates musta cursed the gods of football cos they threw everything at Schmeichel and he kept the scoreline respectable at 1-0. Overhead kick, beautiful chip, driven shots, classic headers and Schmeichel saved everything thrown at him until the David Beckham show at the death.

I also remember both the spanish & english commentators salivating over rivaldo everytime he got the ball during that Nou camp match.
Salivating over what?
The best move of the game was the Yorke/Cole interplay and David Beckham's freekick that stunned 90,000 fans at Camp Nou.

P:S Andy Cole's goal was a thing of beauty. The Interchange of passes between yorke and cole was of the highest order
It's Man Utd. . . . . We invented attacking football.

It means Cesc musta taken a quick freekick after telling the referee he would wait for the whistle.

The referee asks if the player taking the freekick wants it quick or will wait for the whistle.
Cesc musta told the referee he would wait, then take it quick while the referee is arranging the wall for the defending team.

I dunno there are still some simpletons on this planet who don't grasp the basic rules in football.

I just dont understand reasoning like this!
Distance has nothing to do with this. . . . . .Use your horse sense for once.

It was an indirect freekick. . . . .Campbell shoulda been more alert to the danger that Porto might take the freekick quickly.
Yet, he was holding his head and looking like a dejected soul when he should be helping his goalie out.
Next time, defend your lines very well. I can understand if y'all are arguing the freekick shouldn't have been given but everything that happened after the kick was given was perfectly legal.

Now, I wonder why the referee stops play when he points to the penlty spot.
Why doesn't a player just grab the ball, place it on the penalty spot and slot home when the goalie and 5 other players are arguing about the decision?
See this MUMU.

A penalty kick is different in that the referee has to make sure the goalie stays on his line and the other outfield players must stay outside the box.
Comparing that situation to an indirect freekick in the box says a lot about your ineptitude.
The referee has every right to allow a quick freekick. . . . .what y'all should be debating is whether the freekick shoulda been given in the first place or not.

That freekick was an indirect one and was in the box,by allowing the other team play it quickly then its more or less a penalty
We had more chance if it had been a penalty
Your players shoulda defended it better.
The referee will not give you any advantage as you were the one that committed the foul.
The advantage lies with the team taking the freekick. . . .They can either wait for y'all to regroup or take a quick freekick.

Answer this question
Have you ever seen a quick free kick taken in the box in all your life of watching footie?
and I dont understand how a quick free kick taken from 22yards will be compared to a free kick taken from 5 yards?
It's like comparing a throw in  from halfway line to a throw in at the corner flag!
The quick freekick was taken because of the situation in your box.
If Arsenal had 5 players doing their jobs in the box, Porto wouldn't have taken the freekick quickly.
How many times have we seen players trying to take quick freekicks but stopped because the defending team have everywhere covered?

HNIC:
VDS is first choice goalie

U can never catch United unaware like that. We do our defending very well.

So the referee shoulda waited for Arsenal players to regroup before placing the ball down?
A foul had been given and the opposing team wanted their freekick taken quickly.
Of course, the referee had to give Porto the ball so the freekick could be taken quickly. There's no law that says referees should wait for players to regroup before they can defend a freekick.

Your players are naive!!! There's no way in hell any team can score such against Man Utd.
VDS will not give the ball back and if he does, a defender woulda stayed with the ball throughout.
Wenger is a retard for even complaining. Arsenal players shoulda read the situation better and defended better.

@ HNIC,

Stop arguing like a goat!!!

Fabianski picked up a back pass. . . . .It was a clear freekick so the foul itself is not disputable.
After the foul was given, Sol Campbell held his head and squatted when he should be staying behind the ball and making sure he is standing 1 inch away from the Porto player that wanted to take the freekick quickly. He failed to do that.

Fabianski had the ball in his grasp, a foul has been given. He knew there was no player behind him to defend. . . . .He gave the ball back to his opponent and then turn his back to complain to the line-assistant. If that is not first class idiocy, then i dunno what it is.
Someone like Lehmann or Petr Cech woulda hoofed the ball away and cop a yellow card but they woulda saved time for their mates to regroup.

There's no law that says freekicks/corner kicks should not be taken quickly.
The onus is on the defending team to quickly regroup and not be caught napping. Arsenal failed to do just that and they paid for it.
U keep arguing the referee blocked Sol Campbell. . . . .What was Sol Campbell doing in that position. He should be standing behind the ball, Fabianski also should be standing behind the ball when he gave the ball back to the referee.

United achievement was more of a collective effort like FC Porto rather than individual brilliance witnessed with CR7, Kaka, Messi, Dinho and co

If you were to choose among those United players I am sure you wont be able to come up with a definite name.

They all contributed.

The battle at Turin was all Roy Keane.
The decimation of Inter at OT was Yorke,
The wuruwuru win at Nou Camp by Beckham, Sheringham and Schmeichel
Not forgetting Jaap Stam ho saved y'all season long

So who wins it? BTW Becham was second maybe due to his fame and media appeal.

Personally I would choose Roy Keane, Stam, Schmeichel, Scholes and Yorke in that order
Peter Schmeichel is the only common denominator in all those feats.
If we had Almunia in goal against Bayern that night, we woulda conceded 8 goals before the hour mark.
PS was magnificent. He kept us in the game.
He shoulda won it by a distance. Nothing Rivaldo did that year can compare to the Danish goalkeeper's exploits in the UCL Final.
