when you have gotten your I-20, you can request a date maybe 2 months before the resumption date, that'd be like July/August,

you can enter the US up to 1 month before you resume, or up to 3 months (you'd need another visa to get that I think),

Its better to allow maybe 1 week lapse out of the 1 month you have to enter the US,

I had entered exactly 1 month, was resuming Jan 3rd, I entered Dec 3rd, after I passed through the port of entry, the immigration office that interviewed me started looking for me all about, he held the line up and was looking for me, when he saw me, he asked why I came in so early,

if you are going for a graduate studies, and you are not using fake documents, i advice you to make a part payment, make sure the money in your sponsor's account is substantial, i recommend you make part payment cos you wont be at the embassy to defend your or your documents,
if its undergraduate, if you cant afford the payment yet, you dont have to, if you are sure of yourself, you can make the payment,

have had experiences about UK and US,

my bro paid about 2500 pounds and was refused cos the course he did for undergrad (microbiology) doesnt conform to the graduate studies he is going in for, (IT) even though he had a higher diploma degree in IT, had oracle certifications and worked in an IT environment, and he included facts to this effect, but the consul still refused to see that he has changed his career path, if it were to be an interview, he would have convinced him which would have saved unnecessary stress of appealing or reapplying,

i applied for US student visa, what impressed the guy was my TOEFL score amongst other stuffs, I didn't pay tuition though cos the school refused to accept payment until i got the entry clearance,

I got a student visa, the only document the guy that interviewed me confirmed was my TOEFL score report, he just checked the balance on the statement of account and did a conversion, he didnt even check the name of the bank or the account holder, neither did he turn the pages of the statement, just the last balance,

@Poster, if he is given the visa and decide to stay, he might not be given a visa again, that aside anyways, i strongly advice your friend to go for his studies, no future in banks as an entry level guy if you dont know the CEO, you'd need a very good certificate for you to get a promotion,

someone mention not working more than 20 hours, in the US, a student is allowed to work for up to 40 hours I think

IT classes are better taken where you can get hands-on, trust me on that

I did my interview today at abuja, i must confess, all what i read on this page made me scared. but God took control.
First and foremost, i think anybody wishing to get a US visa should go to abuja.
my apointment was for 1:30pm. i got there about 12:30pm. i didnt meet anybody, i had thot the address was wrong. i tspoke with the security and he said i was in the right place. we gisted for about 40mins, the story that i heard about securities were differtent, also, there was no rush of any sort, i think we were 20 applicants in all or so,
to my story, i applied for a student visa , the consul asked for documents but he never even glanced on them. he just collected it, ask for another document and kept on collecting what i gave to him. what he checked in all my documents was the balance on my statement of account, I am very sure he didnt know the name of the bank that the statement was from, he just checked the balance and asked few questions, that was it, all in all, i think its really God's work, the consular officers were very nice, the securities were also very nice compared to the stories i have heard and read,
