V6! Auto, floor gear.
Car Talk / Re: Why Are Ford Edge Cars So Cheap? by Saynoomore: 8:09am On Apr 14
The word "cheap" is relative.

Nevertheless, Ford is not for the Nigerian market because the demand for Ford cars is extremely low, and second hand value is abysmally discouraging! Nigerians would prefer a Toyota or at least a Honda. Whereas, Ford isn't a bad car. It's as strong and as reliable as any other car if well maintained. Replacement parts might not be as commonly found as its Toyota counterparts, but are also not as expensive as often rumoured!

I drove a Ford Escape for 10years before selling it recently. I only changed alternator twice, and Airconditioning system worked on about three times - which is a common problem with most cars used in Nigeria as we tend to have our ACs switched on veey often due to the hot weather. The car had no faults whatsoever and buyer was pleased to have bought it. He still drives it around without fixing anything.

From my experience using a Ford Escape, I'ld say it's a good car! ..and would recommend one anyday and anytime.

I hardly respond to questions like this on Nairaland because I believe that experiences differ significantly and depends on a lot of other factors! So, I dedicate this response to my Ford Escape (2005).

Buy one, use it well by maintaining it adequately, and thank me later.

You don't seem to understand that these kind of people never change.
infact, any attempt to have any conversation will result into more problem as she will manipulate the situation and turn in around into an abusefest.

One thing we seem to not realise is that most Nigerians are abusers in one form or the other, it's just that most people do not abuse their famiiies but only abuse others.
The police, army, civil servants, food sellers, politicians etc are all normal Nigerians who take their turns at every opportunity to abuse fellow citizens.

We have a terrible culture of abuse that's so ingrained in our dna that it's impossible for many to even realise they are abusers, unlike doing it to others the op's mom is doing it to her own family, thats what makes it kinda different but most Nigerians are as terrible as the ops mom too.

Perfect!

@OP, what are you still doing in your mum's house at 28? Please even if it means teaming up with a friend (although it's better you maintain a personal space by renting alone), find and rent a decent studio room apartment and leave your mum's house.

When you've all left (including the boys), her eyes go clear and you'll see humility.

West Africans eat lots of stuff that produce difficulties in their body, making blood circulation, heart beat, respiration hard. Diabetes, HBP, cancer and heart attacks are issues with them.

Could you please speak to your doctor before you gorge yourself on that pounded yam and goat meat?

Very valid point. Let's start with our diet and tackling sedentary lifestyle. A car with AC is seen as luxury! Stereotypical views that those who treck or cycle to work are poor, so most people would rather sit in Airconditioned cars, to Airconditioned office all day long, and be driven back home in AC cars. Vegetables and fruits are hardly in diet, rather fatty foods such as pomo, beef, goat meat, plenty oil palm, etc etc is the daily routine causing atherosclerosis. Nutritionists ain't doing enough to educate people. Our diet is just too heavy! HBP remains a major Public health challenge.

at your first point, the black market wouldn't have been an option to importers in the first place if the dollars were available at cbn. To your other point, even with the devaluation, black market still trades at a higher rate in exchange for naira. I really do not see how this would make private players release their dols to cbn. In anyway you want to analyze it, it is catastrophic to the economy

1. The banks have never made forex easily accessible! So, the argument that devaluing the naira would encourage people to leave black market and approach the banks doesnt hold water! The forms to fill and protocols make it discouraging!

2. This move is a recipe for disaster. CBN will still complain of unavailability of forex..and this will compel black market to hike it further to even N1000

3. No one will take forex to CBN to sell for N630 when haboki is willing to pay 750!

This theory by FG & CBN is just to pull wool over our eyes! Forgerrit joor!
