grasiouso:
Yea, he’s with my international passport.

Pls do you mind providing more information on how to report to Canadian High Commission and what Nigerian authority? I called their consulate office in Lagos and they said they don’t handle immigration matters I should contact IRCC.
If he is denied his PR or citizenship as a result of your reporting him. You would have just succeeded in making an already bad situation worse! I will advise you tread with caution. Hold on a little. I believe he wants to see you handle this with maturity. You might consider calling family members first before taking such a harsh line of action.

From your narrative, I think it's not really about these petty issues you mentioned, rather it's more about the words you trade and bandy with him in your moments of anger and quarrel. When he starts nagging about you not being submissive, simply apologize or if you feel you don't owe him an apology, just remain mute. Words said in moments of anger (especially by most women) can be extremely hurtful, and some men don't forget them easily. You strike me like someone who would retort at every word said! some women believe they must have the last say.

e.g.
Man: you have disobeyed me, this wasn't our initial plan
Woman: In what way have I disobeyed you, oga sabinus, you always play Mr. Know it all. Am I your slave?
Man: You are not submissive
Woman: *laughs and claps loudly* Oh! so, you married me to worship you, you have failed o, if that's what you thought. It's 50/50, nobody is oga in this house
Man: Okay, I will show you that I'm the oga in the house. There can't be two captains in a ship
Woman: Shame on you! go and do your worst!

The man leaves with resentment that his wife has dared him, and thinks of every possible way to prove he is a man. He seeks every means to implement his worst action and teach the wife a lesson without lifting his hands, lest he is described as a violent man or even accused of physical assault. An apology or keeping quiet could have nipped the whole matter in the bud. Since the lady doesn't apologize, he must hatch a plan to prove a point and make you come back on bended knees.

So, madam, this is just an illustration o! I'm not saying that this was what transpired, but that in most cases it's the words that have been traded in moments of anger that precipitate vendetta. I don't think your husband will be so wicked as to deny you (and the unborn kid) access to such an opportunity. He just wants to seize the passport for a while to see whether you'll be humble enough to apologize. I doubt if you have apologized! you're prolly still holding stubbornly to your own threats as well. You guys are in that power-tussle stage most newlyweds go through to establish supremacy - this usually occurs when the couple both have ego issues. Your story reads too one-sided to believe he's that cruel. To be honest, holding tenaciously to an unapologetic stance and claiming you've done nothing wrong doesn't help sometimes.

I'm shocked that some people here are suggesting you report to IRCC to deport him and you have already started taking the suggestion as the best line of action, without firstly exploring peaceful resolution - this is the more reason I mentioned earlier that you are also probably contributing to the problem through your obstinate stance to matters. Seek peaceful resolution first, extend the olive branch, then give some time for him to reflect on your peaceful approach, if he remains unyielding, then you can take the radical approach. One comes before the other!

For a family of 5, I’d say increase that budget. $2500 was my budget as a single person when I came in some years ago.

Anyways, will try to raise it sha, but worse case scenario, we manage o! grin

These are tough questions to answer because the country has a huge land mass.
To narrow it down, which city are you planning to stay?

Please note my response below is not absolute and vary per location. Also, it’s best to over budget than to under-budget.

1. You should look towards a 3 bedroom apartment. Hardly will you find landlord willing to give you a 2-bed for 5 people.
Modest 2 bed - $350 - $600 per week.
Modest 3 bed - $450 -$700 per week

2. Getting a job has a lot of factors that are attached to it. Your cv, prior experience, your communication skills etc.
To get menial jobs, I would say from 3 weeks upwards because you will need documentations like police report, proof of age since you won’t have a drivers license at that time and a few other documents.
Care job will take at least 2 months cos you need to attend classes, placement, and then the certification
3. If your kids are less than 6, that means they will not likely be starting school yet. Your spouse can stay at home with them cos childcare cost is not beans.
Cost of living - I’ll try to give a range for a family of 5
Food - >$600
Electricity - $500-600 per quarter (since you are new and may need to use more heaters to adjust your body temperature)
Gas - <$300 per quarter
Transport - get a car asap (budget from $4500 upwards to get a good car that will serve you and the family. Registration, insurance and license costs are additional expenses you should also budget for.
Telephone - prepaid - $20, postpaid - <$50 monthly per person
Internet - $60-90 monthly depending on the speed you want.
Health insurance - $350-$500 if you are on a skilled visa or PR
Water - $100 per quarter (some landlords add this to the rent price)

You can always go with the cheaper options and upgrade later on.
Thanks a lot Tunlex01.

Your estimate helps a great deal. I guess one can get by and manage very conservatively with $3500. Not bad at all. Gracias!

tunlex01:
Yes, why?
Oga Tunlex01,

Please, permit me to bug you with these few questions. It will go a long way in helping me make some personal decisions on my side, and weigh my options:

1. How much does an average 2 bedroom flat cost (averagely, across Australia). I know there might be variations with cities and high brow areas, but just give a conservative estimate for an average Nigerian who has just relocated to any of the cities, and want to start moderately. I'm not coming for luxury. Just a moderate (not bad) accommodation to manage for a family of 5

2. How long (on the average) will it take to find something (a job) doing, at least to make ends meet. it doesn't have to be a professional job. E.g. One could start with a care job (or any menial job) to manage while writing qualifying exams to practice (I'm in the medical field)

3. What will be the average cost of living (food and minor expenditure e.g. electricity bills, transport, telephone, internet, gas) for a family of 5. I'm not an extravagant person o grin, and my children are all less than 6yrs. so, you can imagine they'll probably wouldn't be such voracious consumers grin. Abeg, make we know how to calculate expenses at least for the first 6 months before one gets stable with a meaningful job. Already flight cost I checked is hitting the roof. grin

I think you missed out the health surcharge in your total calculation of required funds. With the health surcharge the needed funds should be more than N18mil outside London.

How can one beat the health surcharge cost down? Can one go first and say, after 6months apply for family to join? Perhaps this can reduce the required healthsurge cost by half, since its a 1 yr cost initially?

Again, when applying for PSW, would you be required to pay another healthsurcharge for yourself nd family?

I saw the post, and made a comment warning the OP about the risks he was exposing himself to, as well as the current precarious situation of the country .

Immediately after I made my comment on that post, my instincts told me Justwise will either sensor my post or pull down the entire thread. He didn't dissapoint!

Well, in my opinion, I think while the OP has the right to seek opinion on investing in Nigeria, the moderators also have the responsibility of protecting forum members in anyway they possible can - which include sensoring any sensitive detial(s) inadvertently posted by any forum member.

I think both parties are correct on this matter. Perhaps a subtle mail to the op (from justwise) or a Caveat that, the Forum will not be held liable for any fraud suffered by any forum member arising from the disclosures of personal details which should have been otherwise held or treated as confidential, or any transactions initiated or conducted outside this forum.

The OP, indeed exposed himself to risk. What if he made contats with some individuals who were already wooing his patronage by dropping phone numbers claiming to be estate agents, investment managers etc..and later got defrauded? The OP is most likely to cry blue murder and malign nairaland as a den of fraudsters.

So, Op abeg no vex! Na the situation of we country cause am o! ...and please do not attempt contacting anyone you have not verified the authenticity of their claims. Justwise should also try to apply some little diplomacy in dealing with forum members.

You haven’t got a response from Vetassess for a month? That’s strange
Na so we see am o !

I wanted to know if I could send an old copy of undergraduate degree transcript (or notarized student copy) since ASUU & NASU has been on strike. I had all my postgraduate degrees outside Nigera and can easily apply online for those ones to be sent to VETASSES. My job started after my PhD and I dont think the undergraduate degree transcript should have much of an impact on the assessment, particularly as it was not the basis for my current employment and also unrelated to my current roles. But these guys didnt budge on giving a reply. It's shocking to say the least! undecided

Ok sir. I didn’t know. But when I was looking for funding for my Ph.D., many professors had vacancies for post docs.
Of course, many of them have it advertised. The problem is that only one spot is usually available for each advert, and often home candidates are their first choice to avoid the hurdles of getting visas for international students. I had applied to over 55 postdocs before I got one in the US. I'm back in Nigeria, but seeing the country's situation now, I am just weak for words! It's sad, regrettably sad! sad

Hello,

A lot of US Unis recruit post docs especially in Engineering. You can try googling laps accepting post docs within your niche area and going to their website.

Or try the EE route.
I'm also in the academia, and from experience, postdocs are extremely competitive. Postdoc offers don't come easy anymore.

OP, should simply focus on Express Entry. That's what I'm currently trying to explore, but already a lot of point has been lost to age. Learning French is a Herculean task! No pathway easy o! grin

No, it means you cannot get married until after landing.

In the new point system introduced in November 2019, single applicants gets an automatic 10 points added to their points while married people need to have partner that will make them get the 10 points through assessment and English test.
So what DHA is saying is if you claim you are single, when you get ITA, you cannot get married to add a spouse until after you have landed in Australia.
Perfect, fair enough!

Please, one last question.
I have done my IELTS, and currently packaging my application for VETASSESS. My concern is this:

Is it compulsory that you MUST claim points from your spouse? What if my spouse's IELTS is LWRS - 5.5,6,6,7?

My point is currently 75 without Spouse points. Can I be selected without including my spouse english Language test result? My spouse currently struggles with getting 5 in listening. If she writes and doesn't get 6,6,6,6, I think I might be too impatient to wait for a re-write. I intend to continue to EOI without bothering to gain spouse points. The last draw I saw, I noticed someone in my line of profession got ITA with 70points. I think I might just be fortunate too, to get with above 70points.

I may not be able to tell you want you want to hear. You knew the rule of what you applied for but you went against it. Even though your applications has not yet been approved, it still does not change the legislation and sadly, the COs work with legislations and not how we feel.. Anyways life will continue if the CO decides to follow the rules about your application.

482 is a work visa, you may have to confirm if that has a pathway to PR (what I read is that 482 applicant that have been on the visa for over 12 months or during the pandemic will be able to apply for PR) but I'm not sure if it applies to anyone applying now.
That may be a good option for you as your 489 is shaky as it is.

The other option is both of your strive for your visa, get it separately and run your stuff separately. Although there may still be a snag when you may apply for 887.

Goodluck bro
sorry please, can I get something clear! Are you guys saying that married people are not eligible for some visa subclasses? undecided

You have no problem then if your 5yrs work experience is verifiable.

Just take your PTE test and aim superior English scores. Are you single or married? Go for 491 to boost your points.

Western Australia and New South Wales only require 3yrs experience to apply for their 491.

Use this to calculate your points: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/help-support/tools/points-calculator

Carefully answer all the questions to get your projected point scores.
Sorry please, I'm new to this, and trying to read them up. I have just completed IELTS, and packaging my document for VETASSESS. From what I've read online, I think cut off points for 491 are less than 189 (https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/working-in-australia/skillselect/invitation-rounds).

My Questions are:

1. How can one get ITA from the various Regions (i.e. Western Australia and New South Wales) Is there a box to check and indicate interest on the States/Region when applying for EOI on 491?

2. I have observed that there are various subclasses (i.e 491, 189, 190, etc). Are applicants allowed to submit an Expression of Interest to more than one Subclass? e.g can I submit for EOI to 491 and also submit to 189, and 190 at the same time, just to broaden my chances?

To max out, what you need is LRSW= 8.5, 8, 7.5, 7.5
The second best scores are LRSW= 8, 7, 7, 7
Aiming for an all round 8 would get you the second best scores and you’d have missed maxing out by just 0.5 points. So better to aim to max out and at worst you land at tier 2.

The good news is that if you can do this well with little practice, you’ll probably max out at the second try. You maxed out speaking and writing which are the two parts that can easily change with a remark. You need to work on your listening and reading. You can also remark them if you like but they’re objective questions and it’s unlikely that the person marking made a mistake in both.
Thanks for your reply.

Please, how do I start the process of requesting a remark? I want to raise a protest. I am very confident that I answered all the questions well. I'm suspecting that I was shortchanged and deliberately marked poorly. Perhaps they do this to make people patronize them again. I must see to the end of this issue! Please what's the procedure and how much does it cost?

Mostly medical fields and trade occupations are in demand. The situation right now is that no one is waiting for 189. Everyone is now looking to state nominations for 190 and 491.
491 has now become mainly available to offshore applicants.
In the last 3 months, we have had many invitations on Medical laboratory scientists and technicians, fitters, fitter-welder and other trade roles.
Even if I tell you the occupations in demand, if you don't have experience or assessment for any of those occupations, the information is not useful to you
Thanks

BTW, Do you pay to submit an expression of interest to 491 and 190? I've read it here but still don't understand how it works (https://www.kansaz.in/australia-immigration/subclass-491-visa). How can someone who is interested get into the pool and be selected? Ofcourse I understand that having Superior English and having VETASSESS ready are pre-requisites.
TravelRe: DIY Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa - Part 2 by Saynoomore: 1:19pm On Jun 06, 2022
tunlex01:
No, there are 190 and 491 State sponsored nomination.
85 is dependent on occupation (some 100 have been waiting for over a year) and 189 has had like 2 rounds of invitations in the last 12 months. So don't bank on it.
Thank you for the clarifications.

With the information I have been able to gather online, it appears that the Australian Route is different from Canada's (previous) route in that, ONLY Occupations needed at that moment are granted ITA during the draws. There is no general draw inviting every Tom, D.ick, and Harry on the basis of having a high score in the pool - a draw strategy that the IRCC wants to now adopt. It is possible to have a very high score and not be invited to apply; especially if your occupation is not in need. The lesson in these for us all is that we MUST be careful of the Occupation we select.

In this case, do you have any idea about occupations that are very highly in demand, and that would often appear on the list of ITAs issued?

Please, does it mean that as an outlander WITHOUT a job offer and NOT having any siblings, only the 189 can be applied for?

Again, looking at the 189 route, it appears applicants with 85 points can be hopeful. I did the simulation and realized I had 85 (I haven't done the VETASSESS evaluation, but I'm quite hopeful for a positive outcome)
